Thank you

For the barnsensu. Sometimes I'm stupid, but I'm always trying to be a better contributer for WP. Wish you a happy new editing year! Oda Mari (talk) 08:47, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

No, you're definitely not stupid. You deserve it. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:19, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Kent Derricott

I have nominated Kent Derricott, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kent Derricott. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Rtphokie (talk) 16:06, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for the barnsensu! I appreciate it, lets keep up the good work! Bradford44 (talk) 02:18, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Yes I want the image removed Sgt Simpson (talk) 05:20, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

The problem is, once you release an image under public domain, you can't undo that. You have released all rights to it by releasing it into the public domain. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:21, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Real world info for Lum

Have you been able to turn up anything regarding how she was conceived by Takahashi? BrokenSphereMsg me 01:44, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Nope. Since she first appeared in 1978, finding online resources is difficult and I don't have too many Japanese or English references which talk about characters that old. It's possible that one or more of the magazines I have (see WP:ANIME/M) has something, but I haven't yet catalogued them all. I doubt anything short of a hand-delivered message from God will be good enough for TTN, though that would only be acceptable if several newspapers wrote about it. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 01:48, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
I found this (footnote 6), which is a footnote to this (paragraph 2, page 142). Might be worth investigating. --BrokenSphereMsg me 02:11, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I have that book (and the newer edition of it as well). ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:31, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Found a journal article called "Transformation of the oni: from the frightening and diabolical to the cute and sexy" that discusses Lum in detail at pages 17-19, in particular how she's an example of a modern adaptation of the traditional oni. You can get the PDF from the links at German wiki article on oni here. BrokenSphereMsg me 03:08, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I've added a bunch of links to the Napier book to the article. Feel free to tweak anything I added. I'll read the paper and then add relevant references. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:23, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
I've added the refs for the paper now. Let me know if you find anything else. Hopefully, being discussed for most of a chapter in a scholarly book, and then for 3 pages of a 25 page paper is good enough for TTN. (on top of all the other references we have found) ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:51, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
From what I've seen, nothing but deletion by merge is good enough for TTN. I'm about done with this "project". Kyaa the Catlord (talk) 19:08, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Youmex

Joe, I think that your protection of Youmex probably breaks a rule that I can't be bothered to look up, because you were an active participant immediately beforehand. I could unprotect it myself, but I don't want to: instead, I urge you to unprotect, and then IFF sorely tempted then ask somebody else to reprotect. Even better, unprotect, drink a cuppa while you look away from the 'puter for a while, and then explain the (non-)issue in the AfD page. -- Hoary (talk) 03:29, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

I specifically protected the article in the version I don't want so no one could claim I was being biased. I'm keeping to the spirit of the rule here. If you want to, feel free to unprotect it, but I think Collectonian will continue to abuse anyone's efforts to improve the article. He claims to not want it deleted, but his edits were far more damaging than helpful. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:33, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I did notice that you protected the wrong version. I've nothing to say about the protection that hasn't been said elsewhere during the hours when I was away from the computer; for now, I'll just say that, if we put aside everything else, your decision to freeze the wrong version was certainly a good one.
Unfortunately, I can't be of any help with the article: anime is a complete blank to me. -- Hoary (talk) 13:08, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Possible Youmex sources

--BrokenSphereMsg me 04:34, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

There's also at least 3 CDs called "YOUMEX ORIGINAL SOUND LIBRARY SERIES". I can't tell since most of the sites that list it are Japanese if this is music relating to what they've produced. BrokenSphereMsg me 04:43, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the links. The French site and the archive site will be very useful. I've seen the Sound Library CDs listed in various places online, so I'll have to gather the information. The JAWP article is already linked from the current article. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 04:44, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Apostrophe issue

It seems that there's a bit of a spelling error on 100 or so pages on the English Wikipedia. I haven't gone very far back through the list, but I've fixed it as far back as Emperor Kōkaku for now.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 02:16, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Ah! I think you are interpreting the MOS-JA incorrectly. There should never be an apostrophe between the syllabic "n" and a syllable beginning with "n". There's no reason to have one as a double "n" in romanizaed Japanese always means a syllabic "n" followed by a syllable beginning with "n". If you can go through and undo all of them, that would be great. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:09, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
I thought that was how it was supposed to be.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 22:14, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
The only time an apostrophe should be used in this case is to disambiguate んあ, んい, んう, んえ, んお, んや, んゆ, and んよ from な, に, ぬ, ね, の, にゃ, にゅ, and にょ. There is no need to disambiguate when a syllabic "n" comes before a syllable beginning with "n" as it will always be a syllabic "n". A sokuon can not be used before a syllable beginning with "n". ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 22:23, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Question

Hi, Nihonjoe. Happy New Year to you! You might like to know that Tetsuji Takechi has just become (to my knowledge) our first Japanese adult entertainment-related GA. I have a question though, about a section on your talk page a couple sections up. The dab page 日本橋 was pointed out. I did not think that DABs or redirects in non-Roman script were used here on English Wiki. Are they? And if so, should I create these for Japanese and Korean articles? Regards. Dekkappai (talk) 21:00, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

We;re still working out the kinks in the system. Once that's done, We'll post to the WT:MOS-JA and WT:JA pages, so keep an eye out there. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 21:02, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
OK, thanks. If it's a consensus sort of thing, I'm definitely in favor of it (especially for Korean with the more multiple and inconsistent Romanization systems). Many times I've just wanted to paste in a chunk of Japanese or Korean text into the search window to find an English article... Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 21:08, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
You can already do that, and if that text appears in an article, it should bring it up. What we're working on is creating disambiguation pages when the same set of kanji are used for several different things. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 21:10, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
Ah... hadn't thought of that. OK-- Thanks! Dekkappai (talk) 21:12, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Spots (part 2)

You closed an AfD on Spots - at [1]. I'm not at all sure that cannabis use is the most frequent use of the word "spots" and have therefore raised it at rfd - [2]. Hope you don't mind. MikeHobday (talk) 22:20, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. I'd been meaning to rewrite it for awhile, but was reluctant because of COI concerns. But when I saw that the AfD was pending, I figured I'd just roll up my sleeves and dig in. I'm glad that everyone is happy with my edits.  :) --Elonka 03:12, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Can you comment on the last manga talk interaction?

Assistance

Hey Nihonjoe. I was about to post this to WP:ANI but figured that you may be more appropriate since you understand Japanese. If you feel otherwise, let me know and I will repost it there.

User:220.253.25.106 left a rude and insulting message on User:Oda Mari's talk page. I warned him / her. The warning was removed and I was left with the following response. I do not think that such behavior is appropriate here.

Again, if you feel that WP:ANI is a better place for this, just let me know. Thanks. Bendono (talk) 11:39, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

No, you're strong willed, but certainly not that. You've been very helpful here on Wikipedia. I appreciate all you do. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:37, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Anna

Hi, 日本穣. Thank you for the message. No, no, no. No, it's nothing like that. According to the ja article, it means a ugly girl who plays as a foil for a beautiful girl. And this is the official page of the drama adapted from a manga by Yumiko Suzuki. Well, I don't know much about that kind of movie stars and the industry. I just helped to find sources. Regards. Oda Mari (talk) 05:11, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Okay. I'm unfamiliar with the show, and it's a late night show according to the official site, so I was just speculating. Thanks for clearing that up. (^_^) ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:20, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi,

32k is a reasonable archive length (per WP:LENGTH#Technical issues, which may no longer be binding but is still a useful guideline), and a month is a reasonable amount of time to wait until archiving discussion. I don't see that wiping the current talk page clear is essential to keeping the talk page current. Is there a particular reason you felt strongly enough about this issue to revert this change? Chris Cunningham (talk) 02:14, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Yes. The part you unarchived hadn't been edited by anyone for over three weeks (since December 20, 2007). Additionally, the other discussions were over and were not going to go any farther (the whole move discussion and whatnot), and they only made the page unnecessarily long. As for the length of archive pages, there's not really any standard size. The current page is not inordinately large and is fine as an archive. People rarely visit archived discussions anyway. If you're really interested in reading something there, feel free, but there's no reason to have old discussions cluttering up the talk page when the discussions are over and done with. If you want to discuss something that was archived, feel free to make a new section on the talk page (and even reference the archived discussion if you wish). ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:19, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
The archive page is only 53K, so that's not really huge. I've seen some archive pages that are over 200K. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:21, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
I assume you're aware of WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS (which, although it strictly only applies to AfDs, is equally rational for other arguments by example). I quite often have to edit from diskless terminals where pages over about 30k cause serious performance issues, so if you don't mind I'll shift the additional threads to Archive 2. Chris Cunningham (talk) 02:29, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
OTHERSTUFFEXISTS doesn't apply to archives. You must be using really ancient terminals if they can't handle pages larger than 30K. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:33, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
I've split the archive so your ancient terminals can handle it without dying. Have a nice day. (^_^) ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:36, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. Believe it or not, they're state of the art, but Firefox really enjoys eating RAM, especially with three or four dozen instances open on one server. :) Chris Cunningham (talk) 02:41, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
The server needs to learn how to handle RAM better, then. And if they are really having that big of an issue, then the IT people need to add more servers to handle the load. Is this at a university? Most universities I know of have been switching away from using terminals when at all possible as individual machines work better for people. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:53, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
It's at my work, and I'm one of the people responsible for maintaining said servers. Let's just say that we can agree to disagree on this issue. :) Chris Cunningham (talk) 02:57, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

… or you could have just waited until I had finished. ☺ Uncle G (talk) 18:08, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

  • What are you talking about? The 2nd nomination was incorrectly closed, and the third was created when it never should have been created. I'm in the middle of trying to fix it and notify all the right people, but you keep incorrectly undoing what I'm fixing before I have a chance to finish fixing things. Stop wheel warring. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:14, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
    • I've talking about what I said, quite clearly, in the several edit summaries, that I was doing, which you came in and started "fixing" (by doing exactly the same bogus copy-and-paste "move" that I was fixing in the first place) right in the middle of my doing it. You aren't fixing anything. You're making a mess, as I've explained to you once already on my talk page, and as Prosfilaes has also explained to you. Please pay more attention to edit/log summaries and article histories, and do not do copy-and-paste "moves", especially right in the middle of when another administrator is fixing a copy-and-paste "move". Uncle G (talk) 18:33, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
      • You're full of it. I haven't made any copy and paste moves. If you think that, then you obviously don't know how to read histories and logs very well. And when did Prosfilaes ever explain anything to me? As far as I know, I've never seen anything by that user. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:38, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
        • Xe explained it to you here, in this edit summary. As I just said on my talk page (Your style of holding two parallel conversations at once is quite inconvenient, and leaves much to be desired.), my point about your paying attention to edit/log summaries still stands. Finally, and on the contrary: The very reason that the process that I was performing took as long as it did (which was only a few minutes — as I said before, you could have just waited until I had finished) was that I was reading the article histories carefully, checking which revisions belonged where. Uncle G (talk) 19:14, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
