Advice request

Hello, I am a somewhat new user and am in need of a bit of advice. I chose to ask you first due to your unbelievably awesome userboxes (of which I will be using more than just a few). My question is this: I am both a fan and hope some day to be contributer to the Japanese Railways Project, however on the AfD page here there is a debate about whether or not to keep a page about an American High School. Just wait there is a connection here. My problem is that If a high school with a attendance rate that can claim to to out-strip the English using customer base of a given small train station in Japan exponentially is up for deletion under non-notable, How can we avoid this same accusation? Is it because the Japanese train station Project is as a whole notable and therefore the smaller stations that have pages dedicated to them receive a kind of Proxy Notability? If this is the case could one make an "American High Schools" Project and thereby grant the same kind of Proxy Notability to any High School that fits their requirements? I hesitated to bring this up on the AfD page because I don't know the history behind this argument and I don't want to bring any unnecessary bad publicity to the Japanese Railway project by using it as an example. I have much less interest personally in High Schools than I do in JR but I see this as a weird kind of double standard, so I thought I should ask an Administrator who seems familiar with this kind of thing. The general consensus has been that since even most small stations have hundreds to thousands of people using them daily (with larger stations handling tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands), they are definitely notable due to their importance to the local area. Even small stations attract many businesses around them to offer services to the daily passengers. This makes the stations an economic hub for any region it services. On a somewhat related note, I was looking for someone to help me with learning all the standards and whatnot for editing Japanese related articles. I already read the MoS for Japanese related articles but I sometimes still have questions. I looked into the adoption pages but there was no one there that mentioned being particularly well versed on the subject. Combined with the time zone difference I don't see adoption as a possibility (plus at my age it just seems weird). C.C.B. is M.I.A.

Say, why did you delete the entry on C.C. Banana? The Banana has been around for years and has done a bunch of noteworthy stuff. Lots of comedy interviews with famous rock & rollers and celebrities, including people like George Lucas and Twisted Sister. He's done interviews for Sirius Satellite Radio and was in one of those VH1 "40 Most" programs. C.C. might not be as famous as some other comedians but he's certainly on the map. Just Google his name, he's all over the place! I think the last thing I saw was an article about him in The East Coast Rocker back in December. I just don't understand how you could say that the guy's notability hasn't been asserted (or however you phrased it). Maybe you just didn't know. If you (or someone else, as you've indicated you don't care to take the time) can come up with multiple, un-related, reliable sources to use to establish notability, I'm fine with the article being recreated. Wikipedia:WikiProject Japanese biography

While sorting through the top-importance articles, I noticed that Akira Kurosawa had gone missing. This led me to discover that an editor who was active for about two days at the beginning of December had gone through and altered a few dozen WPJ tags to link to a page he created at Wikipedia:WikiProject Japanese biography before disappearing again. This included altering tags on things like Aguni, Okinawa that weren't even people. I've fixed all of those changes, but I'm not quite sure what should be done about the abortive project page itself. I considered redirecting it, but maybe it's better to delete it. Thought I'd ask for your opinion before doing anything. Dekimasu よ! 11:34, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

I was bold and deleted both the template and the category as we have no need of them. I also redirected the project to WP:JA as there's no need to have a separate project that's dead anyway. Deletion of Maccess Corporation entry

We're appealing your deletion of our entry in Wikipedia. How can this be a blatant advert when it is just a descriptive heading and a link to an archive of articles published in newspapers of public record in the Philippines?

We are currently reviewing materials to post under this entry and your sudden deletion does not help. We were precisely avoiding putting anything that could be considered advertorial, which is why there isn't much material yet.

Well, even if it wasn't an advert (which it was), it would be non-notable. Blogs are not considered a reliable source, so a link to your blog doesn't count for anything. Also, it's generally considered bad form to write articles about companies to which you have a direct connection. Thanks for clarification! Since you probably saw I am pretty new to Wikipedia I have no clue how to write a claim of notability. Can you help me please? Maybe as an additional explanation, I am not an employee of ProjectWizards and beside the fact I am a satisfied user of Merlin there are no further dependencies. Since the situation on professional project management software on Mac OS X is not as comfortable as on Windows I strongly do believe it will be a good support for other Mac users if the software is mentioned in Wikipedia. I have the legitimation from ProjectWizards to write and to maintain this article. What you've deleted was just the quick start. I suggest creating a temporary article at User:Sequeller/Merlin (software). Once you have the article ready to go, you can then move it to the correct location. Please read the notability and verifiability policies, and the reliable sources guidelines in order to make sure the article meets those standards. Deletion of the Problem Frames Approach

Hello Nihonjoe,

I cannot understand why you have killed the article about Problem Frames. Problem Frames are an accepted method in computer science to analyse and structure developing problems. If you have any doubts about that, please have a look at the acm portal library, where you can find many articles from different researches which are about Problem Frames. In my Phd. thesis, which I am still working at, Problem Frames play an important role as well. So anyway, I suggest to undelete this article necessarily! Michael A. Jackson is an acknowledged researcher, who has also developed many other structuring methods (Jackson diagrams etc.), which may be more well known. Sure, the article about Problems Frames could be improved. However, in any case it is a misunderstanding that this article would be an advertisement. Best regards, Fantast 10:18, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Well, Michael Jackson has developped this method and his results of research were published in his book. So it is inevitable to post the same information as in his book. Musical chairs

In late February you moved Boa Kwon's article from BoA to Boa (singer) with an edit summary explaining that the move was based on WP:NC#All caps. It was later moved to BoA (singer), and now there is a move request at WP:RM claiming that the parenthetical is unnecessary and asking for it to be moved from that title back to its redirect, BoA.

I know that we've been having this capitalization discussion recently at the MOS, but I think that in your original move you might have overlooked that "BoA" as the stage name is supposed to be an acronym, short for "Beat of Angel" (whatever that's supposed to mean), rather than random capitalization. I'm hoping that you'd be willing to endorse a move back to the weird capitalization in order to straighten this out. How do you feel about it? Dekimasu よ! 13:01, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of Ungana-Afrika

You recently deleted the article Ungana-Afrika after it had been tagged as non-notable. I was able to trivially demonstrate it's notability in less than 15 seconds. Did you ever consider that the original tag may have been in error? It was placed on the article by a self-declared deletionist, which should make you highly suspect to begin with. FN, the original author, placed a holdon on the page, following the only directions he had been given. You deleted the article anyway. No attempt was made by you to contact any of the parties involved, nor does it appear you tried to establish notability yourself. I consider this to be very upsetting. The article has been undeleted. Thank you for your kind words. It's not my job to do notability research on articles marked for speedy deletion as that would require an insane amount of time and the backlog there would never be cleared. Nor is it my job to contact the people who have worked on the article (that job falls to the person marking it for speedy deletion, as you can see by reading the speedy deletion tags). Please also note that the {{hangon}} template specifically states that placing the tag does not mean the article won't get deleted.

If the article meets the requirements for speedy deletion (which it did at the time), then I'll delete it. If you were able to determine "in less than 15 seconds" that the article was covering a notable subject, and you added that information to it, then I'm fine with the article being undeleted. I'm fine with most any article being undeleted if it can be updated so that it meets the requirements for inclusion in the wiki.

In the future, please try not to be so condescending when making comments such as yours (specifically, Did you ever consider that the original tag may have been in error? It was placed on the article by a self-declared deletionist, which should make you highly suspect to begin with.—please note that I can't read minds, and I have no way of knowing (nor do I care) if someone is an alleged "deletionist"). It's not my job to do notability research on articles marked for speedy deletion

Yes it is. That's the whole idea. If the idea was to simply delete every article that was tagged with a prod or note, we would let a robot do it for us. We put humans in the loop to avoid these sorts of problems. But it doesn't always work. In fact, dozens of perfectly good articles get deleted every week. I'm trying to understand how and why this happens.

It didn't meet them. That's the whole point here. The article clearly passed notability. What made you think otherwise? Seriously, I'm not being "condescending" here, I am really trying to understand how you came to the conclusion that it failed. I'm asking you to explain it to me, because from my perspective it appears that it was tagged in error. The article contained more than one link from an external source writing about the company, it certainly passed any sort of smell test for AD or things like that, and I found it interesting as well. But clearly the things I look for are not the things you look for. If you can explain your process, then perhaps I can think of ways to modify the policies to reduce the number of these cases.

One great way to clear the backlog is to remove A7 from speedy delete. Then you wouldn't have to do anything at all. I am here exploring why A7 is invoked so easily, potentially to have A7 reworded. If your main concern is the backlog, you may actually want to join me in this endeavour.

Here's a run-down of the external links present when the article was deleted:

The site appears to be broken, so it's possible this is a valid link and their server is just not processing things correctly. I tried in both MSIE 7 and Firefox 2.

Links via Google.com ←This is just a Google search, can't be used as a main source, and shouldn't have even been in the links in the first place

As for the main body of the article, there was nothing that asserted why the subject of the article was notable, and since none of the sources provided qualify as reliable sources, they can't be used to verify the notability.

Regarding A7, I think it's a valid reason, as do many other admins. Please note that I always read through an article before deciding whether or not the appropriate tag was applied, or if a tag was applied appropriately at all, and I frequently decline speedy deletions due to articles not meeting the criteria. I'm not hell-bent on deleting everything that pops up, but I do think there is an awful lot that needs to be cleaned out due to it not meeting the basic requirements for an article. ···日本穣^{? · Talk to Nihonjoe} 20:26, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

OK, see what you think of the suggestion at the bottom of this page. I think it addresses the common concerns about N. If applied to this case, Ungana-Afrika would have failed speedy because it was not "patently obvious" that it was non-notable. On the other hand, Paul Pham would have passed speedy because it clearly indicates its own non-notabily. I believe the later is what A7 is really trying to address, painfully obvious bogusness. AFD grouping

I noticed that you seem to have added several notable Texas historical figures to the AFD for John C. Autry, including Deaf Smith and Henry Wax Karnes. I can't speak to Young Perry Alsbury - I don't know that one off the top of my head, but the other two are quite notable and seem to be suitably referenced. I'm going to remove the AFD notice on the pages; please feel free to create separate AFDs if there is some actual question of notability. Help with my mess

Hi Nihonjoe, been awhile since I spoke with you. I was wondering if you could help straighten out a mess I think I caused on the Port Hamilton page. I was trying to undo an undiscussed move (in fact, we had discussed it, but everything was pointing against moving it). No activity has happened there for awhile (I was away and didn't notice it). I tried moving it back, but somehow with the multiple windows I think I screwed something up and now the Talk page as well as the page history seems royally screwed up. Thanks for the effort. Unfortunately, it seems the editor who started it is intentionally gaming the system--he moved it again and created a page to prevent it being moved back. Personally, I feel this is disruptive--I would think if he felt that strongly he should have used a requested move rather than just saying "it's got an official name" and then blocking people like me from changing it back. —LactoseTI^T 05:16, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

I would be fine with that, but I think it's a bit of a ripoff that the burden comes down to me when the other editor moved a stable article after so long and then obviously intentionally made it so that no one could put it back except an admin. In fact, the issue of moving it had come up before, but was dropped. I would think the policy would imply that it is their burden to go to the effort of requesting a move, not a request to get it moved back to the name where it sat for months. —LactoseTI^T 05:29, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Nice tone. First of all, the article is hardly mine. There are plenty of others who helped with the article. I just expanded the work listings a little bit and played with the formatting. Second, the work I did on the article was about a year ago when I wasn't familiar with the various {{cite}} templates, so the only references are those in the External links section. April is just a bad month

Sorry if I was gruff or rude with you before. You see it was on this week a few years ago that my 8yr old son died in my arms from cystic fibrosis. And just one year ago my best friend of over 20yrs died during the first week of April from a heart attack. This is just a bad time for me. Do whatever you want with the articles.
