Slovenly is a word I find myself using quite a bit at the moment. Slovenly is what I think of anybody who leaves a message here about an article and fails to provide a wikilink to the article. How do you expect me to read the article if you don't link to it? Even if the article has been deleted, you should still link to it.
I reserve the right to ignore any message which does not provide links where appropriate, has no heading, is in the wrong place on this page, has not been signed with ~~~~, is anonymous, etc.
And if that sounds like a grumpy old man, it's because I am ...

Medusa In My Knickers

Hello, I just saw you deleted my article. I took a lot of time to gather all the informations and references and, according to me, to write a great and interesting article. Let me explain to you why I think this article must stay on Wikipedia : This is for a cultural purpose. Metalstep is a brand new sub-genre of the dubstep and brostep growing music style. One of the biggest artist up to date "Bass Nectar" even talked about it in an interview. I think my article deals with a lot of wikipedia links (EDM, dubstep, electro-rock, post-hardcore...) and that it may be good for Wikipedia to expand itself to the huge variety of musical genres that exist, even underground genres. Hi, why did you delete Category:Comprehensive schools in Bolton despite the {{hangon}} notice on it and the specific explanation on Category talk:Comprehensive schools in Bury?

By the way, about your response to others to "search this page for the word X", it's a fair point once they find it, but if people are editing on a tablet then their browser probably does not have a search function.   • I am surprised that nobody has taken me to task for the way that I persistently edit other people's comments. See the bottom of this diff. I was puzzled that you were picking on one of my deletions and not the other - so I changed it to non-matching. I was born in Bury.
I use my moans when I have a message longer than one sentence. Also, some people object to templated messages and it is better to keep stuff in one place so I prefer to keep my decency message here. But telling people to search is just as bad as, if not worse than, linking to a moan so perhaps I will just let the parrot squawk every time.
But I disagree that considering tablet users is a reason - I have four browsers on my Android tablet and all support a search function - Opera, Firefox, Chrome and "Browser" - the native browser that comes with Android.
Now if you want to see a lack of consideration for tablet users - look at the size of user talk:DGG! I have a personal rule that I archive my talk page when it gets to ~64k. I am doing with this edit. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 18:32, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

Well, I'm glad I brought that up, as it has forced me to learn how to use both Safari and Mercury more effectively on iOS! Maybe the function is more obvious on the Android browsers that you mention. I wouldn't bet on average users finding the search-in-page option easily on the iPad.

As for DGG's page... you have a point. He archives manually, so I wonder why he keeps so much old stuff on it. I come across him now and then, but haven't been to his talk page for ages, otherwise I'd have asked him. – Fayenatic London 21:37, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

North Cheam

  • I say no split. It is better to compare and contrast within one article than split it. I was going to suggest that one article per postal district might be a good rule but I see that North Cheam is split between SM3 and KT4 immediately to the south of London Road. Have you read the article before deciding I'm someone with COI? It consists of facts only, and I think "the guy" as you referred to him is by far more notable than a lot of other people who have Wikipedia pages. I do not have the knowledge to write about the Hadassah Academic College, nor do I think it needs to be a condition for making an article about Prof. Fridlender. Hi, I want to create a new article which is named Webinar. Webinar is a different term to vitural conference (it is a type of VC). Write the article first in userspace and then request speedy deletion of the redirect per WP:G6. However, given the length of the history of the redirect you are probably better off RfDing it.--Launchballer 14:34, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
  • You have twice tried to get it deleted. In fact it should not be deleted because the edit history contains other attempts to produce an article. Did it never occur to you when you were applying the speedy tags that you could simply replace the redirect tag with text for a new article? But please do not do so. For similar reasons to those I gave to Launchballer on his own fork proposal above, I think the subject is better dealt with at web conferencing. Flume (album) deleted

Hello, I was wondering why you deleted the album page Flume last year. There was no reason provided in the [log entry]. The album won an ARIA award and was nominated for two others and it also peaked at number one on the Australian albums chart. Isn't it notable enough to deserve its own article?   • Naked URLs are offensive - please read this. OK, a bit confusing: the "no info" in the deletion log is the deletion reason given in the speedy tag. In fact it is the wrong way round. Could you elaborate on your concerns as to why this rewritten page is an unambiguous copyright infringement? Moving forward I suggest it would be more constructive to specify these concerns rather than continue nominating the page for speedy deletion without any elaboration. I am more than willing to put in the time and effort to comply with Wikipedia policy and develop a high quality and useful article. Please note that you have been deleting a draft page for which I intend to have reviewed and improved by multiple sources, including ISERN members, before suggesting it is posted to the namespace. Deleting drafts of this article is inhibiting this effort. I also note that none of the material posted at http://isern.iese.de/Portal/ is copywritten and I have permission from the owners of this site to make use of any material there. If this permission must be obtained while working on a draft to keep it from being deleted while I would on it then I will obtain it. Please specify clearly what your issues with this article are so I may address them. Willem Buiter

Hi, I came across this entry - Willem Buiter - for a research project and noticed some sort of edit war going on in his personal section. I was going to remove the allegations because I thought Wikipedia was post-script, not a newspaper, but noticed on the Talk: Willem Buiter Page that the editor that has made the changes to his page is the same handle of the person that has only contributed to the other party in this dispute: Heleen Mees. Both are semi-protected but my contention is that these allegations don't even belong there in the first place until it is resolved, but the editor (Bmwz3hm) that does solely Heleen edits and questionable contributions to Willem appears to not have the Wiki guidelines as motivation. Missing women

Hi, I just moved my wikipedia page last night, but I find it has been deleted already. After revising from university writing center and my professor, I think the article is much more better than before. But I don't know why it is deleted. Is it because of reference or something else? I'm so worried that the Wikipedia contribution is part of my university course requirement, and the due date of this Wikipedia project gonna coming. So I really need help now.   • Many thanks for the considered response, which has given me a chance to step back from the article in question and look at the wider issues. I initially tried not to get too involved after reviewing the draft and voicing my concerns. Alas, cue worms and can-opener and here we are in a situation where at best we will end up with a content fork and at worst lose an article that does contain some useful, well referenced content. I had initially intended to get the article into main space and then tackle the naming/overlap/content but I think that there needs to be a wider discussion of the issues around the (at my count) five interconnected articles involved before that happens. To the mix has to be added a conflict of interest between Yangtana Li, who is trying hard to satisfy her coursework requirements and the goals of Wikipedia.   • Hi RHaworth, that page is part of the EP extension; that's why it is not editable in the same way that the average page is. I would suggest posting at WP:ENB to get a broader discussion. However, in the interim, there does not appear to be any reason to keep the page protected; potential overlap in coverage and article titling are both editorial issues, the article in question covers more than simply sex-selective abortion, and its content appears to be a valid encyclopedic topic.   • I have removed the move protection but I think the title should be gender imbalance in China and it requires an admin to move it to that title. Chattanooga

Was working on this page when it was deleted, originally it was flagged for having a very broad title "Biological & Environmental Sciences". Which absolutely was titled incorrectly. This was changed to University of Tennessee at Chattanooga: Department of Biological & Environmental Sciences and flagged as a part of Wikiproject universities and I was in the process of adding more information to the article in an attempt to do something similar to Cornell University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences which is linked from Cornell University in order to provide more information regarding the department referenced.

The link would go into a group of links at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to give further information regarding the departments and colleges at the university and hopefully turned into a sidebar similar to the Cornell University example above. Please reconsider deletion of this info I was rather upset when I went to add a box with department statistics to the wiki and it had been deleted. Please forgive me for being slow at learning how to do this as it is the first wiki page I have attempted to contribute towards. —Faugaun (talk) 00:19, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

I think there is a general feeling that articles about individual university departments are not needed and the article for this university is not too long. It matters if a user announces they are "considering retirement" and someone else goes ahead and updates their talk page to say that they have now actually 100% "retired". If they've asked off-wiki for you to do this, fair enough, but I can't see anywhere where the user requests or supports this. That they haven't reverted you or objected may simply mean that they think Wikipedia has forcibly retired them as part of the blocking process. --McGeddon (talk) 17:53, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

Oh, as you say, I think it's probably better if I keep clear of his talk page, he'd probably just see a retirement question as more harrassment. If you updated his talk page to "retired" because he asked you to; fine, let's leave it there. If you changed the template by mistake, or because you saw that he'd given up making unblock requests and decided he was therefore effectively retired, please revert your edit. For all I know 44robby logged in today, saw a "retired" message, and concluded that Wikipedia (or me personally) has forced retirement upon him when he was only considering it. And if he makes another unblock request, the apparent claim that he has voluntarily retired will affect the admin's decision. --McGeddon (talk) 18:06, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

It's simple fan fiction. Obviously the blue links would link to somewhere on my own wiki. The links were simply only there to make the page seem realistic. Twibanire esterification

Hi there, I believe you deleted Twibanire esterification without paying attention to the references provided. I have gone over the discussion as to why Twibanire esterification had been deleted previously. I do find that both the first creator of the page and the person who deleted it had not read the paper in which the reaction was actually named: [1]. This reference is in my opinion the key here because it is here where the reaction was actually named. Read the paper carefully. If this reference had been provided in the first place, I don't believe the page should have been deleted back then. You could modify it to your liking if you want but again, notice that the reaction was named in the publication given in the reference below. Happy easter. Yes it looks notable especially given it's applications so far. I think there is a paper where the method was used to easily make Lyme disease antigens, a process which would otherwise be difficult and long,[1] maradolopids is also quite difficult to make from what I gather, but with this method, only two steps are required.[2] I have also come across several other papers which make mention the use of the new methodology.[3][4][5][6][7][8] The method even appears among new esterification methodologies on the organic chemistry portal page.[9] There are also other sources which cite its use but I don't have enough time to find all.[10][11] During my search this morning I also came across a review published in adrichimica acta, a high impact journal, which summarizes the very method.[12] There are several other sources to which in my opinion justify its notability.   • Doktorbuk (talk · contribs) put an edit summary of "just not notable enough" when applying the speedy tag. That sums it up nicely. Fielding one candidate in one European Parliamentary constituency is simply no evidence of notability. At 631 bytes, the article was hopelessly stubby and you had made no attempt to provide references. Military Cross and two Bars

Military Cross and two Bars was a redirection page deleted as a duplicate of Military Cross to which it pointed. The deletion was made in good faith however the page was called by 6 templates (that manage post-nominal letters for the UK 1 2, Canada 3 4 and New Zealand 5 6) which is in turned referenced by 21 pages which are members of Category:Recipients of the Military Cross and two Bars. The page is used to populate the mouse-over event with the name of the award when a visitor holds their mouse pointer over the post-nominal letters with the click event causes the Military Cross page to load. Hi RHaworth, I see you have deleted my article. I am confident that the organisation will satisfy the criteria for notoriety if I add additional third party citations. Indeed there are many similar pages for cycling campaign groups around the such as the Cycling Campaign for North Bedfordshire. Pedals has been around for thirty years and has been influential in public transport policy over that time. The article was still under development. Sorry I thought there would be a notoriety/lack of sources warnings before a page is deleted. Is it possible to email me the content, so I can rethink it?   • Now if it has done something to make it notorious then it might well be worth an article. But for good old notability, I doubt if it passes muster. Also, I suspect that you should kindly have the decency to wait until someone with no COI thinks the organisation is notable and writes about it here. RHaworth You recently deleted a page which I created yesterday and i don't understand why? My purpose of creating this page is to identify a local youth club which no longer exists in the Birmingham area. The football team was well known throughout Birmingham and has been re established after an amalgamation. I'm a new user to wiki but hope to contribute and create football teams in the Birmingham area including past and present youth leagues affiliated / connected to the Birmingham FA. I would appreciate any help or advice as there appears to be quiet a lot to take in when creating a football page. However i used a template from another team and used sufficient cited references considering the team no longer exists. gr1226

I suggest do not attempt to re-submit - a local amateur club is unlikely to meet our notability criteria. Incidentally, I saw File:George Cadbury opening Allens Cross Sports Ground.jpg got deleted. This message is an appeal of the Wikipedia decision to delete a Wikipedia page describing the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority.

Wikipedia explained the reasons why the page was deleted. As such, we would like to work with Wikipedia to resolve the issues through conduct of the following: • removing the Authority logo, • paraphrasing original source material in another fashion and retaining the referenced sources (i.e., not quoted verbatim from external sources), • verifying that the page avoids a promotional tone, as that is not our intent, and • emphasizing the multiple, independent, reliable sources that provide significant coverage.

Wikipedia originally asked me, the page author, to add in a variety of external sources, which were incorporated. In addition, new information (i.e., event report numbers from healthcare facilities in Pennsylvania) will soon be available to be added, further justifying reinstatement of the page.

A few weeks ago, I was trying to ensure my user name, MMinetti, would not display as the page title; rather that “Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority” would appear. After additional research, I found that my user name would not appear. However, I had previously communicated directly with Wikipedia editors, and we freely discussed their concerns that a formal name change was associated with promotional editing, following which we resolved how to display a title rather than user name. However, the transcript of this process could appear misleading, out of context.

Shortly after the page was live, I was notified of the speedy deletion, and I contested the deletion. I explained with the following text: “The information submitted would be reviewed and edited where Wikipedia is requesting and that the information is good public knowledge information.” Moments later my page was officially deleted.

I freely disclose my affiliation with the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority. The Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority contracts ECRI Institute, the entity that employs me.

Given the above suggested solutions, I can safely assure you that there will be no copyright violation. I respectfully request that you restore the page so we can work to meet Wikipedia standards.
