HI guys can you please check this User:Ab.Haris999/sandbox i created a page on Knee South Korean Tekken Player he is 2 time Evo Champion he is Notable just like Arsalan Ash. No, Ab.Haris999, you've got the wrong idea. The right idea is: You start with reliable sources, and work from these. Incidentally, saying three times in one paragraph (above) that somebody is notable smacks of desperation. (All you need do instead is say that, taken together, [reliable source 1], [reliable source 2] and [reliable source 3] show that he meets WP:GNG.) -- Hoary (talk) 01:11, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Ab.Haris999, I'd recommend replacing your second one with something else. Sportskeeda is generally unreliable (see the list at WP:RS/PS) and it seems to be an interview in any case, so not independent (have you read WP:42?). 199.208.172.35 (talk) 22:54, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ab.Haris999, thank you for the links. The kotaku.com source looks good. The redbull.com source, not so much. The geniuscelebs.com page isn't obviously bad, but the website that it appears within shouts "tabloid trash". -- Hoary (talk) 06:09, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
thank you for reply so what you think about him is he eligible for wikipedia? i have more sources about him. Ab.Haris999 (talk) 21:38, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ab.Haris999, unfortunately it's not obvious to me either that he is or that he isn't. One reason for this may be my complete unfamiliarity with (i) the websites that are cited (and therefore their reliability), and (ii) the subject matter (and therefore what would constitute "significant coverage"). Because of my inability to judge, plus the fact that this thread is slipping up this page towards oblivion, I suggest that you ask about eligibility on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games. (Try to avoid asking the same question at two or more places at the same time; so if you do ask there, also mention here that you've moved the discussion over there.) Good luck! -- Hoary (talk) 04:41, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Hoary OK and thank you. Ab.Haris999 (talk) 17:13, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New York Times Paywall Help!!![edit]

I’m working on improving the David Lewis Gifford article and I’ve stumbled upon a source that could be really useful. As it appears to detail one of Giffords numerous action hero-like adventures. What I know of the disaster is fairly rudimentary. He was on a ship - Daniel Webster - that was crushed by ice five miles south of the northernmost point of the United States. In Alaska. The trail runs cold, until we discover he was picked up by an Australian ship. Though I haven’t added that bit on Wiki. This article from the New York Times appears to fill in the blanks. From what I can see it might indicate how he was rescued, and would make a really intriguing point. I was wondering if anybody here would be able to ‘gift’ me the article so I can read. After bumping into the Times’ paywall I became very frustrated, but seeing that there was a way for me to read it without shelling out I was suddenly reinvigorated. I would be extremely, extremely grateful if anyone were to help me out here. It would mean so much to me and would truly help build the encyclopedia and life story of an incredible man. AdmiralAckbar1977 talk contribs 02:12, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

AdmiralAckbar1977, can you give us some more detail about the article you're looking for? Link, title, author, date, anything like that? Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 02:15, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In the future, @AdmiralAckbar1977:, if you do run into the same problem with a paywall, WP:RX is designed exactly for this sort of thing. You let people know what article you need access to, and someone with a subscription can look it up for you, and even email you a copy to peruse on your own. --Jayron32 14:36, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fix the host cities of Olympics in France[edit]

Can you please figure out the problem about the map of the country France where they host the Summer and Winter Olympics in the host cities? Paris 1900, Paris 1924, and it will host again in 2024. How to edit the original named reference[edit]

I am finally facing the question of how I choose to cite references in a new or substantially expanded article. I like the concept of named references because it simplifies the edit coding. The disadvantage is that the reader has to scroll down to see the details. So my inclination is to use named references only for sources which are used frequently. But the biggest catch to named references seems to be that it is difficult to find that original reference if it must be changed. Is there a trick for locating the original naming of a reference? Humphrey Tribble (talk) 03:05, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Humphrey Tribble assuming you are using the source editor, try using Ctrl+F then look for <ref name="foo">. most of your recent edits are tagged mobile web, in which case your browser likely has a 'Find in page' feature which you can use instead of Ctrl+F. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 03:11, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Sungodtemple (talk · contribs), your example helped me solve my immediate problem. However, I had to edit and search several sections. That would be laborious for many articles.
Ideally, I’d like a cross reference between the names and the references. Perhaps the name which is given to a reference could be stored as an editor’s comment with that reference. But I don’t know how that would work in practice. Humphrey Tribble (talk) 04:21, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It sounds as though you are groping towards/trying to reinvent short form referencing. See Template:Sfn for the full details, but put simply it separates the citations from the references. In the text you have a short form reference that looks like {{sfn|Tribble|2023|p=4}}. At the foot of the article you have the citations neatly arranged (typically in alphabetical order). If you hover over the reference number in the text, then the reference will appear as a tooltip, if you then hover over the tool tip the full citation will appear as another tooltip, thereby not requiring you to search for it. See Frindsbury for one example. Regards, Martin of Sheffield (talk) 07:00, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
User:Humphrey Tribble, for finding named references added by others, if you tap the "three dots" menu in the upper right of the article, there is a new option "edit full article", which will allow you to search for the reference name without having to check each section individually. Folly Mox (talk) 12:40, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ECAL (disambiguation)[edit]

The disambiguation page for ECAL lists five items, of which: three are redlinks for inexistent articles; one is a link to Eastern California based on an acronym that is nowhere to be found in the article itself (nor is this usage easily found elsewhere); the final link is to the École cantonale d'art de Lausanne, a Swiss university that is commonly referred to as ECAL (or ÉCAL in the French speaking part of Switzerland). This disambiguation page seems to serve little purpose. Should it be deleted? -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 04:16, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the redlink-only entries. I agree the disambiguation page that is left isn't very useful. * Pppery * it has begun... 04:19, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Company page[edit]

Hi I want to create a company page and then pages on the team - any place that has a description how to create more them one page/article? thanks. AndyCytrycki (talk) 10:11, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@andycytrycki: absolutely not. wikipedia is not a place to promote your company. ltbdl (talk) 10:12, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
its not about promoting - its about a description on the company - there is a lot of pages on companies and biographies of people working in them. AndyCytrycki (talk) 10:15, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@andycytrycki: well, are you connected to the company in any way? you must declare this. see here for how. ltbdl (talk) 10:17, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@AndyCytrycki: You created a whole page of such text as " The excellent results are delivered by leveraging the deep reservoir of knowledge, relationships and skillset of our team focused on unlocking strategic opportunities and creation of exceptional returns for our investors", and you are asking us to believe that it was not intended as promotion? Really? It was blatant and unambiguous marketing copy from start to finish. Nobody in the world writes like that except marketing professionals employed to promote something. JBW (talk) 10:24, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
there is no problem for me to rephrase the descriptions - I was asked to create the page. If there is a page that will describe that's applicable then I will stick only to that. I will retrain myself from any lines like that. The question is whether I make the effort to write a lot on the company and it would be deleted.
This is why I'm asking for help. AndyCytrycki (talk) 10:33, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
User:AndyCytrycki, the brief essay Wikipedia:When your boss tells you to edit Wikipedia might be an informative read for you. Folly Mox (talk) 12:48, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Andy. If your comnpany has been written about enough by people wholly unconnected with it, published in reliable sources, then there could be a Wikipedia article about it, based entirely on what those independent people say about it, not on what you or our associates say or want to say. You are not forbidden from creating the article itself, but it is discouraged. Such an article will not belong to you or to your company, will not be controlled by you, will not necessarily say what you want it to say. Is that really what you want the world to see? (See An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing).
The same applies to articles about your colleagues- only if they indvidiually meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability are articles possible. ColinFine (talk) 10:35, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok so there is a page about one of the team members - and its out of date - I was asked to update it. And I Will.
So in other words - independent people would have to create a page on the company and people? AndyCytrycki (talk) 10:42, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @AndyCytrycki. You can't just go and update it without declaring both your Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and making a Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure. Not disclosing this by not following the instructions on those two links is a breach of the Wikimedia Terms and Conditions and can lead to your account being restricted. These declarations must be the next thing you do. Do not make any more edits to any articles related to your company until you've done that.
If you're having trouble with the declaration process, let us know and we can walk you through it. Qcne (talk) 10:48, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Once you have made these declarations, it is permissible for you to draft an article on your company or its members. The guidance is at WP:COIEDIT. You will be expected to put in the effort to learn how to make such a draft meet Wikipedia's expectations: see H:YFA. You may wish to read WP:BACKWARD to help you avoid the most obvious mistakes. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:53, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for this information - this makes it way more understandable how it works. And now I know my next steps. Very helpful. AndyCytrycki (talk) 10:56, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Forget everything you ever learned about marketing, not least of all bullshit terms like "team" and "associates". --Orange Mike | Talk 16:37, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalize title[edit]

How do I capitalize the title of the article würzburg Baskets The first "W" should be upper case BiggySmoov (talk) 10:29, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the Template:Lowercase title code from the article- you may need to purge the article cache to see the update. Qcne (talk) 10:39, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
When you inserted content after blanking the page, the content you inserted included the template {{lowercase title}}. I have no idea why, but you can remove it.
Incidentally, I'm not sure where you copied that material from, but if it was from within Wikipedia (as i assume it was ) you breached the licence by not attributing where it was copied from. You could have done this in the edit summary, or you could (and still can) do so on the article's talk page. ColinFine (talk) 10:41, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This page has no references. JackkBrown (talk) 00:11, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The italian version seems to have plenty. Consider using some of those sources to improve the version here. RudolfRed (talk) 00:12, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@RudolfRed: I don't know how to do it, I hope other users can enrich the page! JackkBrown (talk) 00:20, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

JackkBrown, most of the people reading this page will never have heard of Aldo, Giovanni & Giacomo and therefore would be disinclined to spend their time on this article (rather than on their own interests), and also will not be proficient in Italian. So you are well placed to do the job. If, after asking so many questions here, you still don't know either how to look for reliable sources or, once these are found, how to add them, then you have a problem. -- Hoary (talk) 00:58, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Vasu Vijayaraghavan Although Wikipedia has an article about the novel Inca Gold, which you would be welcome to translate into another-language version (see WP:TRANSLATEUS for some advice), we can't help with any translation of the whole book, which presumably would be a large task for you and only worthwhile if your version was going to be commercially published. There are copyright considerations, so as advised above you would need to contact the publisher of the English-language version. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:37, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
