August 8[edit]

Red vs Blue/Alerts[edit]

On top there's a red number which I thought were alerts, and a blue number which I thought was for notifications. When I hover on either it says Special:Notifications. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a problem? Nuts240 (talk) 04:47, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I get Your alerts when I hover over and Your notices when over as tooltips. Maybe it's a caching issue? Otherwise they both lead to the same Special page if you click All notifications. Sometimes if you click on either of them before a page is fully loaded it brings you to that page. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 05:01, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) @Nuts240: There is no problem. The blue number is officially called notices. Alerts and notices together are called notifications. Special:Notifications shows both but if you click one of the icons at top then only the corresponding type is shown, unless you then click "All notifications" at the bottom. Some users and pages may say "Notifications" about notices alone so there is a little confusion about the terminology. PrimeHunter (talk) 05:06, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Buck Rogers comic strip reprints[edit]

My source is personal experience, since being a fan since age 4, which encouraged me to learn how to read, so that I can read the Sunday comic strips, to buying as many reprints of both daily and Sunday strips as get published.

Your article at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Buck_Rogers_comic_strips is Correct in that Hermes Press beGan to reprint the Buck Rogers dailies and Sunday comic strips. However, since 2014, they have reprinted Nothing further than - 8 Volumes of Daily strips; + a volume with Murphy Anderson dailies; although I pre-paid for this volume, Amazon couldn't just Charge me for it, and Send me the volume. Oh, NO! They had to leave the order Open, perchance to save me a few cents should the price sag. Then I had bad charges on my charge card, and had to get a new credit card account #. So when the Anderson dailies volume Finally came out, Amazon couldn't link to my new account #, so I Never Got this volume. I'd Far rather have paid an Extra 5$ and just gotten the charge posted on my account, and ReCeived the Volume.

- 3 Volumes of Sunday strips; + a thin volume with 3 Murphy Anderson storylines, beginning with "The Search for Impervium" (in which the Unicells wrought havoc).

And so, these 8 years on, No New Buck Rogers reprints. No explanation from Hermes. No indication that another publisher will resume publishing these reprints. I am totally bummed! Bgorby (talk) 05:54, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Bgorby. Sorry, but your feelings of being totally bummed are irrelevant to building and improving an encyclopedia. Do you have any actionable proposals for improving these articles, based on reliable published sources? That is all that matters here. Cullen328 (talk) 07:32, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Bgorby: Hi there! If you have suggestions for improving the article, you can post them on the article's talk page: Talk:List of Buck Rogers comic strips. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 13:01, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Broken Deletion Discussion[edit]

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Winterbury, Delaware is broken, which is, I think, breaking it's inclusion on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2022 August 8. I tried to fix it, but it's beyond my wiki-sorting capabilities. (Tagging poster dlthewave)--05:56, 8 August 2022 (UTC) Jahaza (talk) 05:56, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Done Fixed! There was a stray bracket in one of the links that somehow broke the whole thing. –dlthewave 06:03, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Delete a related page or link[edit]

Hi team,

There is a wiki page which is getting reference from another page due to which I'm not able to edit the page.

Please find the links below: Namita Thapar https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Namita_Thapar&redirect=no

Emcure https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emcure_Pharmaceuticals

I need to update Namita Thapar wiki page but concern is it might get rejected due to the issue. I tried to remove the reference but it is not getting accepted kindly acknowledge the issue, i will be thank full to you.

Regards, Joydeep B. Joydbasu (talk) 06:38, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Joydbasu So you want to change the redirect into an article about the founder of the company? If you work for or represent the company, the Terms of Use require that to be formally declared, please see the paid editing policy. It's doubtful that the founder of the company merits a standalone article just for founding the company. However, if they do, I would suggest creating a draft via Articles for Creation and if accepted, it will be placed at the correct title. 331dot (talk) 07:08, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Eligibility Question[edit]

what’s the rules on pages for people in the esports scene? 22cfinch (talk) 09:13, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

22cfinch I don't believe there are specific notability guidelines for participants in video gaming or esports; you would need to show that such people meet the special Wikipedia definition of a notable person, as shown with significant coverage in independent reliable sources, in order to merit an article(not a "page"). Please read Your First Article for more information, as creating a new article is the hardest thing to attempt on Wikipedia. 331dot (talk) 09:18, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi 22cfinch You might like to look at the category page Category:Esports players by nationality and click through to some individual players who have articles. Does the new person you wish to draft an article for have similar coverage in WP:INDEPENDENT reliable sources as these? Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:55, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Notability (sports)#Applicable policies and guidelines says: "At this time there is no consensus that electronic sports participants are covered by the criteria of this guideline." So it's Wikipedia:Notability (people), linked by 331dot. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:32, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@22cfinch: I do feel that I need to point out that eAthletes tend to have very few sources that actually discuss them at length, due mainly to a lack of outlets that cover eSports and have competent editorial oversight in general. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 20:43, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Roseboard notation problem[edit]

Roseboard notation is not being picked up by Wikipedia even though it is for both types of regular cell array. May I email you th details? www.roseboardgames.org website. 92.1.169.77 (talk) 13:31, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

92.1.169.77, I have created a new section for your query, which was attached to the end of another and might have been overlooked. In future, please use the big blue "Ready? Ask a new question!" button near the top of the page to create a new section, with a header, for your query.
As to your query, I have no knowledge of such matters, but at least now someone who does might actually notice it. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.196.45.159 (talk) 13:45, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No, there is nobody to mail in details to. If you have a suggestion for improving a Wikipedia article, please open a discussion on the talk page of the article. (I hae no idea which article(s) you are interested in). ColinFine (talk) 14:11, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"Roseboard notation" gets no Google hits, so it is not notable: see WP:N. Wikipedia is not a place to promote new terminology: see WP:MADEUP, and more generally see WP:NOT. -Arch dude (talk) 15:07, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

World Stock Exchanges[edit]

Where is the Mongolia Stock Exchange? 2603:9000:A90C:CE75:7197:6C9C:5075:2781 (talk) 13:51, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Google is your friend: the Mongolia Stock Exchange is located in the former Children's Cinema building near Sükhbaatar Square, next to the headquarters of Mongolia Telecom Company and across from the Mongolian parliament's buildings Ulaanbaatar. Why do you ask? Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:05, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you refer to a Wikipedia page then please link it. Our article Mongolian Stock Exchange is in List of Asian stock exchanges. List of stock exchanges is only for major stock exchanges. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:21, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Getting alert when my new article is approved and published[edit]

I just wanted to confirm: will I get an email notification that an article I created has been approved and published, by selecting the "Page Review" box on Special:Preferences? That's not something I've looked to do before and I wanted to make sure "Approved" means the same as saying that article I wrote is now live. Akwhitacre (talk) 16:01, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Akwhitacre: I think if it's a draft, you can watch it by clicking the little star to the right of the 'View History' tab. If you have enabled watchlist e-mail notifications, you will get a e-mail when the draft is moved by someone else. weeklyd3 (block | talk | contributions) 16:04, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Akwhitacre: Assuming you are referring to Draft:Parasocial Contact Hypothesis, you are using the correct WP:AFC procedure and one of the standard things in a reviewer's toolbox is to add a message to the submitting author's talk page a message saying that the article has been accepted or declined. You'll get an alert when anything is added to your Talk Page (next to your user name when browsing, similar to ping alerts) and if you have set things up to be notified by email when something new appears on your Talk Page, then that will also trigger. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:27, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Michael D. Turnbull and @Weeklyd3! Looks like both options did the trick. Akwhitacre (talk) 16:37, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Jackson Page[edit]

Hello, When Michael Jackson is searched on the google the first photo to appear is his mugshot from a case he was wrongfully accused of. I have no issue with the photo being on the wikipedia page itself, but it shouldn’t be the first photo to be seen when he is searched on Google. I mean you guys have several other photos of him to use.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:83:8001:7610:0:0:0:6B85 (talk) 18:33, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please ask Google to change this. We do not have any control over what images are shown in Google Knowledge Graph. They might not even be taken from the Wikipedia article. weeklyd3 (block | talk | contributions) 18:35, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Complain to Google. We have no control over their (ab)use of their platform. If we did, we wouldn't have so many angry Muslims yelling at us for something we never said and something we have no say in. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 20:40, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

this user, PRAX harassment.[edit]

inking? why??? Dazaew26h (talk) 23:15, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

Read the declines. It's pretty simple "why." If you continue to submit garbage like this, you'll be blocked sooner rather than later. Don't waste our reviewers time with this nonsense. PRAXIDICAE🌈 23:16, 8 August 2022 (UTC) your mean, dont bite the newcomers. Dazaew26h (talk) 23:18, 8 August 2022 (UTC) Newcomers don't use WP:BITE, but no one is being mean. You're being disruptive and being told as much. PRAXIDICAE🌈 23:18, 8 August 2022 (UTC) well obviously you and others don't accept me here... Dazaew26h (talk) 23:19, 8 August 2022 (UTC) Not if you're gonna continue creating garbage sourced to fandom, you're probably right. PRAXIDICAE🌈 23:20, 8 August 2022 (UTC) fandom is a wiki buddy not"garbage", K? Dazaew26h (talk) 23:23, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

It's garbage, and it can't be used as a source here. Go edit there if you think it's so wonderful. Wikipedia is an actual encyclopedia which requires reliable sources. PRAXIDICAE🌈

Dazaew26h (talk) 23:30, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Had a brief look. There is no harassment going on here. @Praxidicae: is a new page reviewer, it's one of her jobs to review newly created articles for issues. The two articles have significant issues, which are explained in the messages on your talk page. Sideswipe9th (talk) 23:36, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
okay, apologies. Dazaew26h (talk) 23:37, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Dazaew26h, let's be honest. Praxidicae can be blunt but the editor is correct about the sources you used. Fandom is not a reliable source for use on Wikipedia. As a matter of fact, it is pretty much the opposite of a reliable source. I rarely use words like garbage. Instead, I might say something like "poorly referenced content that has no place in this encyclopedia ". Does that make you feel better? Cullen328 (talk) 06:33, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Dazaew26h, I see that you submitted Draft:Skateboard (Jacob Sartorius song) to AFC, a microstub with only one reference, to a lyrics database that is probably a copyright violation. Utterly unacceptable. This raises the question of whether or not you are competent to edit this encyclopedia. What is your explanation for such poor quality work?
