User block report

User Superinformative is making editing war and refuse to discuss in the article Tilahun Gessesse's talk page by simply changing the historical birthplace of Ethiopia during the Italian rule, which is then called "Italian East Africa" (1936–1941), he was born in 1940. I had tried to request protection but the bot delete my submission, and instead I'm here to address such disruption by user. Some of edits appear here:

Superinformative and The Supermind have been engaged in an edit war at Tilahun Gessesse, though neither has come close to violating WP:3RR, so there would be no justification for a block. The Supermind has started a discussion on the talk page (thank you, The Supermind) to which Superinformative has not yet responded. Superinformative has twice accused The Supermind of vandalism, with no justification: I assume they haven't read WP:VD.   Maproom (talk) 08:33, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

Problem with adding categories

Every time I try to add a category by using the linking button a : is added to the category making it like this Category:Foo.★Trekker (talk) 08:22, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

*Treker, just two minutes before writing the above, you added a category (without the colon) to an article, thereby doing what you seem to be saying you cannot do. Just what/where is the difficulty, exactly? -- Hoary (talk) 08:52, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

@*Treker: It's an intentional change in phab:T38227 which was implemented in the MediaWiki version we got yesterday: mw:MediaWiki 1.37/wmf.18#WikiEditor. The button is called "Link" and has a link icon. If you enter File:Example.png then you also get a colon in front now to produce a link File:Example.png instead of adding the image. Below the edit box you may have a drop-down menu where the "Wiki markup" part has a [[Category:]] button. You can also use HotCat to add categories. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:38, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

Noticed 2 errors with reference to Singapore and the founding fathers of the PAP (People's Action Party), Singapore.

The People's Action Party sources the nine founding members and I couldn't access the source in the Kenneth Michael Byrne article. Anyone may have an account. In fact, anyone can edit. However, if you are unsure of your writing ability and spelling ability, you should probably not edit articles directly. Instead, you may make suggestions for improvements to an article on the article's talk page, and another editor can then handle the proper language for you. -Arch dude (talk) 15:04, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

Menobot?

I've just received an email entirely in Arabic script, except for the words 'Menobot' and 'Verbarson', and the Wikimedia Foundation address in the footer. It claims to come from [email protected]. It means nothing to me.

Should I worry? Should somebody else worry?

@Verbarson: It looks like that bot welcomed you to the Moroccan Arabic Wikipedia [3] — some Wikipedia communities have welcoming bots even if you've never made any edits there. You can just ignore it, nothing to worry about! DanCherek (talk) 15:47, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi Mike. We can;'t respond to a general grievance. If you have specific errors to point out in that article, please comment on its article talk page, detailing the specific errors. Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources state, so if those sources are not being summarized accurately, we want to know about it. If you don't like what the sources say, but the article summarizes them accurately, you will need to take that up with the sources. 331dot (talk) 15:48, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

Missing pin on Infobox map

I have added {{Infobox bridge}} (including | coordinates = {{coord|54|53|50.6|N|1|41|16.1|W|display=inline,title|region:GB type:landmark}}) to the Causey Arch article, but it only shows the pin on the map while in preview mode. When I read the article normally, there is no pin. I think all my brackets are correctly terminated, and nothing else seems to go wrong. The pin does appear if I click on the map to make it full screen.--Verbarson (talk) 16:35, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

@Mcguy15:, I'm using Windows 10 (with IPv4). It behaves the same using Edge, Chrome or Internet Explorer. I've just tried it on a different laptop, with a different IP (IPv6), running Chrome on Lubuntu, and it still behaves the same.--Verbarson (talk) 16:56, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

Tell me about it. I have to use it professionally for one essential program that uses ActiveXes. However, IE and Edge are as up-to-date as a security-conscious IT policy can keep them. Chrome may be a bit older.

The Chrome on the Lubuntu box is Version 92.0.4515.131 (Official Build) (64-bit).

Solution (of sorts). I have entirely removed the {{coords}} from the coordinates parameter. The pin now appears on the map (presumably based on the OS grid ref?) and the coordinates still appear in the infobox (though not at the head of the article). Hello, Souvidghoshias. Thank you for wanting to improve Wikipedia. THat article certainly could do with expansion. But I think you need to be careful: looking at the article's history, there have been many attempts to add material, subsequently removed because it was not cited or not neutral. Remember that Wikipedia is not interested in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. More or less every statement you add should be supported by a citation to a reliable source independent of Anukulchandra and his movement. It might be a good idea to ask for a collaborator at WT:INDIA. --ColinFine (talk) 19:02, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

Edit link

On en.wiki, if I edit a section of a page, the edit link is to the far right, which is where I want it. I assume this is somewhere in my Preferences, but I'm not sure where. When I edit at meta, I also want the edit link in the same position, but it's just to the right of the section header. I went through Preferences on meta, but I couldn't find it. @Bbb23: You probably have the gadget "Move section [edit] links to the right side of the screen" (Preferences → Gadgets → Appearance) enabled here on en.wp. It doesn't seem to exist on meta, but you should be able to use it there by putting @import url("https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Gadget-righteditlinks.css?action=raw&ctype=text/css"); at the top of your m:Special:MyPage/common.css. – Rummskartoffel 19:54, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

Foreign Language link wrong person

There seems to be some confusion as there are 2 people with the name Andrew Gower.

Andrew Christopher Gower (born 1978) is a computer programmer whose English Wikipedia page was recently merged with the one from Jagex (which I thnk he created).

There is however also an actor called Andrew Gower (born 1989).

When Andrew Christopher Gower's Wikipedia page was merged with the Jagex one, it meant that if people looked for Andrew Gower (the actor), they were also redirected to the Jagex page.

I suggested to change that and apparently it was. If you're currently looking for Andrew Gower, you are directed to the actor's page BUT if you click any of the links to read the article in a different language, you suddenly end up on the foreign language page for the computer programmer.

Andrew Gower (the actor) has pages on Wikipedia in English, German, Egyptian Arabian and Hebrew (according to the German article).

I don't know how this can be fix but I hope it can!

Hi @Minkerbelle. This happened because the original wikidata item, d:Q2451677, wasn't updated. I've went ahead and update that one, as well as the one it should be linked to, d:Q4757137. I'd like to avoid to be seen as sockpupper

Where to put the dash, if any in this title?

I would like to create an article on an emerging software architecture called "micro frontend". I am however confused about the spelling to use:

• I have found at least 5 books as potential sources, which all use the spelling "Micro frontend". There are also dozen of web articles using the same spelling. So this appears to be the spelling used by the specialists of the field.
• However this spelling is not consistent with the traditional use of "micro" which is concatenated to the noun that it characterises, such as Microprocessor, Micrometer or Microservices (which is, by the way, in the same software architecture field as micro frontends).
• Moreover on a couple of secondary sources, I have found the spelling "Micro-frontend"
• To make it worse, it appears on wikipedia and in the literature that the second term can be written "front end" (as in the title of wikipedia article Front end and back end), "frontend" (as in the body of that same article), "front-end" (as in the body of the wikipedia disambiguation page Front end.
• A review of academic computing papers (ACM library, published between 1974 and 2021) shows 89 articles using "front-end" spelling in the title, 35 using "front end", and 16 using "frontend". If reducing this corpus to the articles focused on user interfaces, the proportion remains similar.
• A look in the Ngram viewer does not help further: it shows a predominance of "front end", then "front-end", then "frontend". However, the corpus is general purpose and not as specilaized as the ACM corpus.
• The Wikipedia Manual of style clarifies the capitalization rules. But, I see an issue in the using commonly accepted names considering the diversity above (the spelling of the recent books on the topics seem then the best candidate?) vs the recommendation to avoid dashes.

The following title seem possible "Micro frontend", "Microfrontend", Micro-frontend", "Micro front-end", "Micro front end", "Micro-front-end" (other combinations would be possible but inconsistent). Therefore, to prevent a lot of successive name changes and unnecessary hassle, I would like to know what would be the recommended wording applying the wikipedia rules and style guide.

Per WP:COMMONNAME, you should use the name which is most commonly used for this subject. From what you've said, I would say that would be "Micro frontend" since that's what is used by most authors writing about it. The fact that the name is inconsistent with other uses of the micro- prefix is not a strong argument to use a nonstandard name. We have articles with similar stand-alone "micro" in their names, when that is the most commonly used name, such as Micro black hole, Micro Transport Protocol, Micro hydro, Micro air vehicle, Micro ribbon connector, Micro combined heat and power, etc. CodeTalker (talk) 00:44, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
