Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

• Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
• Offer a correction if possible.
• References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
• Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 08:18 on 4 May 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
• Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
• Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems, because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
• No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
• Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
• Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed, determined not to be an error, or the item has rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Another example of poorly vetted (rush to publish) DYK. Come on, people, would it have been that hard to insert THREE more words to clarify "castration OF A MASCOT" to make this less macabre? Martindo (talk) 08:04, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

Martindo, do you have any evidence for your poorly vetted (rush to publish) statement? I'm asking because when I look at the nomination, I see no evidence of that whatsoever. Nominated on 21 April 2023 and approved on 24 June 2023 doesn't give me a sense of rushing. And frankly, I see nothing wrong with the hook. But let us ask for input from Robminchin (who brought the article to GA), Onegreatjoke (nominator), Evrik (reviewer), AirshipJungleman29 (who first suggested the "castration"), Edge3 (promoter to prep), and RoySmith (promoter to queue). Lead double hook, at present (after several page moves, and a discussion on Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Missa brevis in B (Tambling)) right now:

• ... that Tambling's 2014 work Missa brevis in B-flat for mixed choir, trumpets, trombones, tubular bells and organ was premiered by 1,400 singers at the Parish Church of St. Mary of the Assumption (pictured) in Landau?

My version (reasoning in the discussion mentioned above):

• ... that the Missa brevis in B-flat, a mass for mixed choir, trumpets, trombones, tubular bells and organ by Christopher Tambling, was premiered by 1,400 singers at St. Maria (pictured) in Landau in 2014?

We don't need the clumsy official name of the church instead of the common name, we don't need a year (but I kept it), because the number of singers would not have happened before the 20th century, we don't need "work", but if a description is needed then "mass" is more precise. We want a bold link as the first link, no? And a link to the unusual bells, no? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:01, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

There is no verification of the subjective term "leading" cited in the source. We don't know, for example, how often this flattering term is used in Yad Vashem descriptions of other villages. In fact, the Yad Vashem page is part of their series that chronicles murders of Jewish communities. The hook should focus on the ENTIRETY or some other aspect (e.g., history of the village), rather than the unverifiable claim "leading center". Martindo (talk) 08:27, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
