The result of the discussion was delete. plicit 23:42, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is confusing because the 6th baronet was William not Robert; Robert being the name of the 1st, 2nd and 5th McAlpine baronets. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 19:51, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. A potentially costly redirect given the inaccuracy. - Presidentman talk · contribs (Talkback) 01:41, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. I apparently made the original page (i think by splitting another page?), but then immediately moved it to a better name, so show up as the creator of this redirect. I assume the original error came from whatever page I had split, and was nothing more than an error. Morwen (talk) 14:48, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Long pause[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was restore disambiguation. One of those WP:SNOW early close situations. (non-admin closure) Steel1943 (talk) 20:37, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This was changed from a redirect to Rest (music) to a 2-entry dab including the Polynesia term...I further changed this to a redirect as the musical term has no affinity to this over any other sort of pause, whereas there appears to actually be a specific term in Polynesian history called "the long pause". I propose keeping this as a redirect there. I'm bringing here for wider input since a couple recent change patrollers seem to have objected with no real arguments. 35.139.154.158 (talk) 19:26, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - it's inappropriate to change the page from a disambiguation page to a redirect and then nominate it for RfD. The disambiguation page is fine as is. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:30, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's perfectly appropriate; this is the perfect place to get wider input on the proper place for a redirect target, or if disambiguation is warranted. Instead of citing bureaucratic procedure, why not contribute to the discussion and try to achieve consensus? If consensus is that it should be a dab, then so be it, but I favor a redirect as I noted above. 35.139.154.158 (talk) 19:38, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You had 3 people who chose to make that page a disambiguation page and then there's you, edit warring. It seems as though you're not listening to what others want because you disagree with them. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:49, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Restore to disambiguation - page was a disambiguation page that OP is now edit warring over. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:50, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Restore disambiguation. If there is a dispute over whether a page should or should not be a redirect, then revert to what it was before the dispute and nominate at the appropriate venue. In this case the status quo ante is a disambiguation page, so this should be discussed as a disambiguation page not as a redirect. Thryduulf (talk) 20:11, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • As for the merits, this should be a disambiguation page between at least the musical rest (for which this is an alternative name and literal translation of the Italian name) and the period in Polynesian history as neither appears to be the primary topic. Thryduulf (talk) 20:13, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Restore disambiguation per above. Seems there is no primary topic. Skynxnex (talk) 20:36, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Restore disambig per above, no primary topic. I would argue that Rest (music) would be the primary topic due to it not being something only those interested in Polynesian history (or whatever). And there is a long pause in music (despite what the IP suggests), it's actually called a multi-bar rest (i think) but I could see it being called a long pause. Technically any rest with a fermata over it could be considered a long pause, depending on how long the conductor wants you to hold that rest for. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 20:45, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: Looks like WP:3RR may have been violated by per the edit history of Long pause. Per my count, the IP editor made a total of 4 reverts. Steel1943 (talk) 21:05, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Steel1943: Technically 6 if you count them adding the RFD template to the page and restoring the redirect (which I reverted because there was no entry here yet) and then reverting me after they had actually made this nomination. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 22:13, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Blaze Wolf: Nah, 2 of the 6 edits weren't technically reverts. The 4th one I counted was them reverting the removal of the RFD template. Steel1943 (talk) 23:36, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Restore disambiguation. There is no primary topic, even if we were tunnel-visioned to Austronesian studies (Robert Blust talked about two "long pauses" in the Austronesian expansion, the one that is claimed here to be the primary topic was the second "long pause"). Searching for "long pause" in titles of books and papers in Google Scholar[2] also tells us that there is no primary topic. And yes, this is only here because the IP made four reverts. –Austronesier (talk) 15:00, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Restore disambiguation. Did we really need this whole vote to get to such a sensible conclusion? As Joe Biden would say, "c'mon man." Criticalus (talk) 15:20, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - The "New Nintendo Switch" has been rumored to exist for more than 3 years now, and I have heard conflicting sources say that it's a minor upgrade of the Switch, a la the New Nintendo 3DS, and some that say it's an entirely new console, a la the Wii U. I think it's best to remove this redirect until we hear Nintendo's word (granted, with the Switch selling like hotcakes even now, I figure it will be a while before they decide to announce a successor) MightyArms (talk) 18:38, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unsure what this “docking station” is. Pizzaplayer219TalkContribs 14:10, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete no such thing as a "docking station" for the Wii unless it's made by a 3rd party. Closest thing to it would be the stand that came with it when you bought it to keep it upright. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:22, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Third-party_accessories_for_the_Wii_Remote#Chargers - 'put remote on docking station.' The current target does not discuss the topic so it's useless, but the suggested redirect target does have discussion (and even a photo) of a 'docking station' type charger. It's a sensible target. However, no strong opposition to deletion if Wii experts say this retargeting would be pointless or confusing. ‡ El cid, el campeador talk 19:49, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Q:John Green#YouTube. signed, Rosguill talk 20:01, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Quote is never mentioned in the article, and is an extremely unlikely search term for someone looking for John Green. Cerebral726 (talk) 13:41, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Soft redirect to q:John Green#YouTube: The quote is mentioned at q:John Green#YouTube, so that seems like an appropriate place for a soft redirect. With this it provides context for those readers who are trying to find that for said quote and also the wikiquote page links to en:John Green in its lead. TartarTorte 14:29, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete Sonic the Hedgehog (next-gen) and Sonic Next, no consensus to delete Sonic Next-Gen and Sonic Next Gen. -- Tavix (talk) 14:56, 30 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This game is no longer “next-gen” and it probably shouldn’t be retargeted to Sonic Frontiers due to the fact that in the next few years it would no longer be next generation. Pizzaplayer219TalkContribs 18:32, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - In addition to the nom, I'm not sure this combination is particularly likely with the parentheses, hyphen, generation shortened, etc. Sergecross73 msg me 18:39, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: A WP:COSTLY redirect. TartarTorte 19:07, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete: The PS2/Xbox/GameCube gen hasn't been the current generation in over a decade. No reason to keep this redirect, which suggests that this is the case. MightyArms (talk) 20:27, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Sonic Next Gen and Sonic Next-Gen, delete the other two. From what I've seen "Sonic Next-Gen" is not COSTLY, since the term has only ever referred to Sonic '06 and nothing else. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 16:32, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete "Sonic the Hedgehog (next-gen)" and the extremely spurious "Sonic Next"; neutral but leaning delete dependent on whether evidence can be shown of sources using the term "Sonic Next-Gen" to exclusively refer to this title and not other titles like Sonic X-treme or Sonic Adventure. HumanBodyPiloter5 (talk) 06:48, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete "Sonic the Hedgehog (next-gen)" and "Sonic Next", but Keep "Sonic Next Gen" and its hyphenated variant. This moniker was the WP:COMMONNAME for the title prior to and just after the game's release, and is still occasionally used by fans of the franchise when discussing the game historically. "Next-generation" is a nonsensical disambiguator to those who don't know what a console generation is, and "Sonic Next" is just WP:MADEUP. silviaASH (User:BlankpopsiclesilviaASHs4) (inquire within) 15:07, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Fails WP:Redirect#D3. In 2022, tranny is an offensive and derogatory slur for a transgender individual. This redirect is from 2007, and it sits at the time of writing at 0 views in the past 30 days. Pilaz (talk) 01:08, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. How ironic to have a redirect with an offensive slur take people to an article talking about a problem facing transgender and other LGBTQIA+ people! Regards, SONIC678 02:24, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete I believe this clause:
The redirect is offensive or abusive, such as redirecting "Joe Bloggs is a Loser" to "Joe Bloggs" (unless "Joe Bloggs is a Loser" is legitimately discussed in the article), or "Joe Bloggs" to "Loser". (Speedy deletion criterion G10 and G3 may apply.)
    in WP:R#DELETE applies here.
Roostery123 (talk) 11:38, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: There's absolutely no reason for this to exist. I feel like it's arguable WP:G3able, if someone wants to try a speedy route to deletion, but if not, absolutely not helpful redirect that contains an abusive term for no good reason. TartarTorte 12:22, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per WP:RFD#DELETE #3. No one who wants information about violence against transgender people would search for such an abusive title. Dsuke1998AEOS (talk) 01:23, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete I checked the last 90 day page view count for this and it's basically nonexistent. If this page had any serious amount of traffic going to it I would say it should be kept and have page protection enabled. The only reason I say this is in the off chance that there could be people trying to educate themselves and don't know the proper language. That is not the case here, so I can't in good faith support keeping this. Dr vulpes (💬📝) 18:58, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
