Your contributed article, Celestamine[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Celestamine. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Betamethasone. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Betamethasone - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Cind.amuse 13:01, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I understand that logic. But the branded Celestamine appears to have ingredients other than Betamethasone, which is why I created the new page. Perhaps that point can be best be made on the Betamethasone page directly. I'll raise it on the Talk page, as you suggest. Onanoff (talk) 13:47, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks![edit]

I wanted to award you this barnstar as an expression of thanks for your new articles - People Power (Hong Kong), Bella Sidney Woolf, Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Kenneth Chan (politician), and so on. Template:Convert[edit]

This template is there to allow readers who are used to metric measures to understand Imperial measurements like mile and gallon, please don't remove it. It is not a variable unit and acuratley converts measurements from one to the other. NtheP (talk) 17:37, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the conversion is handy for those who prefer their units metric. But it is grammatically incorrect: as a modifier, the plural is wrong and it needs a hyphen. As far as I know, WP cannot provide conversion for modifiers - unless you know otherwise? Since a grammatical error is unacceptable where as an extra conversion of units is merely helpful, I've changed it back. Onanoff (talk) 05:15, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've had a closer look at the convert template and it will support the hyphenated form you want by use of the adj=on element. I've used this to amend the article to what I hope is something we are both happy with. Thank you for helping me to further my knowledge of Wikipedia syntax.
And thank you for doing the legwork to find the optimal solution. I've made a note and will use that extra element in future. Onanoff (talk) 19:03, 6 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

BANNED[edit]

OK, noted. I assumed that if he wasn't allowed to see my question, then it would be blocked from him. And, ahem, while your subhead was provocative, I have no guilty conscience, so no worries! Onanoff (talk) 03:41, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • FYI, Wikipedia's banning policy states that "Anyone is free to revert any edits made in defiance of a ban. By banning an editor, the community has determined that the broader problems with a banned user's participation outweigh the benefits of their editing, and their edits may be reverted without any further reason." Hope this clear things up for you, cheers and best. --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 04:16, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

BRD[edit]

Your beyonce change has now been reverted twice, by two different editors. Per WP:BRD lets discuss this further on the article talk page. Gaijin42 (talk) 17:54, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My bad, some other editor restored it, not you. Lets discuss anyway :) Gaijin42 (talk) 17:56, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes let's discuss. I think the reference to Emmett Till is relevant and significant, as did the BBC when they made it the lead of the (referenced) in-depth piece[1] on this topic, where I read about it. As that notes, Beyonce is only one of several people who have made the connection. In fact, I have only a cursory idea who she is, as I grew up several decades before she was born, but her being well known adds a little to her inclusion. So, without wishing to cause offence, perhaps you have let your low opinion of 'a singer' cloud good judgement on what should be part of this article?
Was her quote worth inclusion? We could debate that part, but I thought it elegantly made the connection between Till and Martin, and even captures the current unrest on the racial implications of this matter.
Would you like to restore at least the reference to Till, and I would suggest also the quote? Onanoff (talk) 19:25, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Beyoncé is a noteworthy person, but in looking at the quote she gave "We must fight for Trayvon the same way the generation before us fought for Emmett Till", she seems embarrassingly uninformed. Emmett Till was in broad daylight and whistled at a white woman on a dare. His attackers spent hours seeking him out. He was tortured and beaten for hours to where his face was unrecognizable, shot, and his body was hidden in a river. The men who did this knew that this wasn't considered legal or proper behavior, but racism allowed it to be overlooked.
Compare those events to what happened with George and Trayvon. George Zimmerman has a black great grandfather, opened a business with a black partner, showed up at a city meeting to protest the needless punching of a homeless black man, and reportedly had a black young lady as his date to his prom. George first saw Trayvon while heading to Target for his weekly grocery shopping. A witness testified in court that he always went like clockwork to Target on Sunday at this time. EVEN IF we somehow assume that George rashly confronted Trayvon, and was the 'troublemaker' here (and we have no evidence to support this), the facts show that Trayvon was beating George, and Trayvon didn't have a scratch of damage on himself. Someone was screaming for help for over 40 seconds, and no one came to help. George shot Trayvon one time. He didn't shoot over and over in a rash manner, and he immediately asked for neighbors to call the police.
Some people want to paint a very biased picture of events, where George Zimmerman is a different person than the facts show. I can't say whether he started the fight, or how foolish he might have been, or whether he should have stayed in his car. But I can look at the facts that are available, and get an idea of what kind of person he actually is. He wasn't out "hunting", he was on his way to shop. He was willing to socialize with, work with, partner with, and stand up for black people in his daily life. And for him to suddenly change into a murderous anti-black sociopath just seems completely out of character. -- Avanu (talk) 01:34, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Avanu, thanks for your fulsome response, which adds to my understanding of the complexity of the case itself. My concern was, and remains, that the incident and case are clearly feeding into public concerns about race, vigilantism etc, and inasmuch as these relate directly to the case, this article should reflect them.
Clearly, substantial contrary concerns that race was being misapplied should also be included.
Since the article Talk page is covering this, let's use that to keep this discussion visible. Onanoff (talk) 04:46, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. I wasn't making a judgment on his whole activity profile (though if I'd seen something I didn't like, I'd have not awarded it). I've seen him active on a lot of HK pages, and not noticed anything detrimental. Can you share an example of what you mean? Onanoff (talk) 16:26, 27 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 11:27, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article List of district police stations in Hong Kong has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:NOTDIRECTORY

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Booba (disambiguation)[edit]

Please note that disambiguation pages like Booba (disambiguation) are meant to help readers find a specific existing article quickly and easily. For that reason, they have guidelines that are different from articles. From the Wikipedia:Disambiguation dos and don'ts you should:

  • Only list articles that readers might reasonably be looking for
  • Use short sentence fragment descriptions, with no punctuation at the end
  • Use exactly one navigable link ("blue link") in each entry that mentions the title being disambiguated
  • Only add a "red link" if used in existing articles, and include a "blue link" to an appropriate article
  • Do not pipe links (unless style requires it) – keep the full title of the article visible
  • Do not insert external links or references - Wikipedia is not a business directory

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. However, in your recent edit to Tom Jones (singer), you added links to an article which did not add content or meaning, or repeated the same link several times throughout the article. Please see Wikipedia's guideline on links to avoid overlinking. Thank you. Graham87 (talk) 16:03, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
