NinjaRMM draft deletion

Hey, I disagree with your decision to not undelete my draft. I provided plenty of legitimate, independent feature news articles about the company and product and kept a neutral, unbiased tone throughout. Many of our competitors are also on Wikipedia, so why can we not create this page? Here are multiple examples: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SolarWinds , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datto_(company) , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ConnectWise_Control

Interesting strategy. Let's call it the "no-ping tattle". If I remember correctly, I agreed to stop removing captions that are appropriately-formatted (i.e. Cosby in 2010. I think the more concerning issue here is Tartan's obsession with official caption, year, which is not mentioned anywhere in MOS:CAPLENGTH. KidAd • SPEAK 03:00, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

User cruiser Ben, of course. Your first edit used WP:POV words "infamous", "dubious", and "criminals". The others use "dubious" and "criminals" as well. As Larry Hockett pointed out, the sources do not support the text that you added. Well, I came to you for a reason. If you thought my edit was worth it, I'd create the discussion, but if you thought it was unnecessary I wouldn't bother. That's all I wanted but I have another question.

A few months ago, right after I created my user box, this smaller box appeared at the bottom of the page that said, "other users who have seen Lost, other users who are Gay" and stuff like that. Few weeks ago, it disappeared. I was wondering if you knew how that works because I was interested in searching for other Gay users like myself just for fun. WikiCup 2021 September newsletter

The fourth round of the competition has finished with over 500 points being required to qualify for the final round. It was a hotly competitive round with two contestants, Botswana The Rambling Man and New York (state) Epicgenius, each scoring over 3000 points, and six contestants scoring over 1000. All but one of the finalists achieved one or more FAs during the round, the exception being Republic of Venice Bloom6132 who demonstrated that 61 "in the news" items produces an impressive number of points. Other contestants who made it to the final are Gog the Mild, England Lee Vilenski, Zulu (International Code of Signals) BennyOnTheLoose, Rwanda Amakuru and Hog Farm. However, all their points are now swept away and everyone starts afresh in the final round.

Round 4 saw the achievement of 18 featured articles and 157 good articles. George Floyd mural Bilorv scored for a 25-article good topic on Black Mirror but narrowly missed out on qualifying for the final round. There was enthusiasm for FARs, with 89 being performed, and there were 63 GARs and around 100 DYKs during the round. As we start round 5, we say goodbye to the eight competitors who didn't quite make it to the final round; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia, and we hope you will join us again next year. For other contestants, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.

Hello, Muboshgu,

I watch a ridiculous amount of TV news and I wanted to let you know that some major TV networks (ABC, CBS) and some newspapers like the LA Times are reporting elements of his death that you have been revision deleting. I don't want to say anything specific, lest you delete my comments, but while I applaud you standing up for BLP, I think it's a matter of time before reliable sources like the NY Times and Washington Post also report it as well...not the cause of death but the circumstances surrounding his death. This is way too aggressive of a guarding of this article, and rev-deleting this information is a disturbing misuse of admin privileges. The New York Times link just reported this actor's death, which is obviously tragic, as being investigated as a drug overdose. No such treatment was given to Kate Quigley or the countless other public figures documented on this site who have suffered from publicly document substance abuse issues or tragically succumbed to them. It is irrelevant whether or not it is a "rumor," nor would I agree with that characterization. External sources don't need to follow our policies. WP:BLP is a sourcing policy, and the NYT and CNN easily meet the requirements for the reported information. Your opinion is that we cannot include the information, but that is absolutely not required by policy with the sources provided. I count maybe five(?) reverts from you in the last 24 hours on this. These are not covered by the BLP exception if the editor provided a source such as the NYT or LA Times or CNN, but it is not immediately clear because you rev-deleted the page. You are crossing the line here, Muboshgu. Numerous pages concerning high-profile deaths due to drugs did not delay including the information, and did so as soon as it was available in reliable sources. Keith McCants, Kate Quigley. Two notable individuals who suffered from a reported drug overdose in the past week according to credible news reports. McCants is deceased; Quigley survived. Neither prompted the attention of an administrator to repeatedly revert this information out of the article or rev-del the page history. OK, well, now at least you're on notice that 1) these are individuals who are notable enough to have a Wikipedia page and 2) it was reported in the last week that they either died of a drug overdose or suffered one. That would seem parallel to the situation at Michael K. Williams. Is intervention warranted here? (Probably not.)
It is also incorrect to say unequivocally that this is a BDP violation (what you really mean is BLP) given the sources that have been provided thus far. The New York Times reported that his death is being investigated as a drug overdose. That is an objective fact, and clearly of interest to the article. I'm not ignorant to the BLP concerns; obviously there is a moral stigma around drug use in this country, and inclusion of this information is decidedly negative or might be perceived that way.
However, because something is negative doesn't mean it needs to be immediately purged. It means we need the highest quality sources. Do you not believe that is met with the NYT piece? Wikieditor19920 (talk) 02:59, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
Wikieditor19920, what I see on Williams is a BDP violation until it's confirmed by an autopsy. As for the others, you're raising good points. Has anyone confirmed that it was an overdose? The sources are equivalent in these instances as far as I can tell, so any issues that you believe apply to Michael K. Williams should be applied to those two articles (obviously I have the opposite position). What I believe this is a better illustrator of, though, to be frank, is that your position on this is not consonant with typical practice on BPD or BLP.
To my mind, you seem to be suggesting that medical records, or reporting on medical records, is necessary whereas I don't see that anywhere in BLP. It's the same as an allegation. BLP explicitly doesn't require an allegation to be proved true, only that it's been reported in reliable sources. NYT reported that his death is being "investigated" as a drug overdose. CNN reported other details regarding drug items found in his apartment. These sources should satisfy BLP because, although the information is inferential, presumably it's good information because of the quality of these sources. Concerns about BLP (accuracy, thoroughness) are met because we can trust these sources to be accurate and thorough. Wikieditor19920 (talk) 03:40, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

I'm telling you that BDP is a strict policy, there's another admin in this section that agreed with how I applied it. "Possible drug overdose" is what NYT says and that does not pass BDP. You keep insisting BDP is a "strict" policy and this "clearly violates BLP/BDP. Can we be clear about what that policy says?
In the case of public figures, there will be a multitude of reliable published sources, and BLPs should simply document what these sources say. If an allegation or incident is noteworthy, relevant, and well documented, it belongs in the article—even if it is negative and the subject dislikes all mention of it. If you cannot find multiple reliable third-party sources documenting the allegation or incident, leave it out.
What the NYT reported, quote, was The death is being investigated as a possible drug overdose, the police said, and the city’s medical examiner was to determine the cause..
These are facts relevant to the death, reported in multiple reliable source. What specifically is the BDP issue here, then? Because the way you are rev-deleting prior page versions, basically serially reverting, and refusing to engage on the talk page, it's suggesting to other editors that we cannot even discuss this, which is clearly not the case. Hi, Can you please tell me exactly how this is disruptive editing? I was able to state the facts and then back it up with video evidence, so I am confused why you took down the second edit. I looked through the wiki policies and procedures, and my evidence was real, uncut and from the source that originally produced the video, so why is this not going to stay up? Prod tag

Hello, Muboshgu,

There is an article, You Better Believe It, that was PROD'd yesterday. On the tag, there is a big, bright message stating that the PROD is invalid because it was the subject of an AFD. But when I looked at the previous AFD, it was for a blog and the article now is about a musical album, same name, different subjects. Since I noticed that you frequently handle PRODs, I was wondering if anything needed to be done about this. I can't find a way to remove the warning message but since the only thing in common between the two things is the name, I assume the PROD is still valid.

Liz, my interpretation is that it was a different article that happens to have the same name, and therefore is eligible for PROD, as it was a different subject that went to AFD. I'm not sure if that's the right interpretation, but I think it is. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:31, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
That's what I thought, thanks for the confirmation, but I was looking for a way to remove the garish warning message. I guess we just live with it and make sure some well-meaning editor doesn't remove it on the basis of that AFD. Liz, the article on the conservative weblog that was deleted 15 years ago is definitely not the same article as an Xzibit compilation album. The warning is a good reminder to check the deleted edits but shouldn't stop us from deleting this page. The question is, what if it's a different article on the same subject? I looked at the fact that it has been deleted many times in accordance with WP:CSD#G5 and for that reason and that reason alone I rejected your request to undelete it. Larry Elder gorilla mask

I'm trying to understand what addition information you believe would be needed to characterize the gorilla mask incidence as racist? The African/non-human primate trope is well known (I assume you don't dispute that), and multiple reliable sources have reported on the incident. There's even video. PRODS-a-palooza

Hello, Muboshgu,

I know one of your regular activities is evaluating PRODs and I wanted to alert you that tomorrow there are 129 coming due, most around the hour of 17:00 UTC. I noticed this was going to happen last week and have since asked the editor, Elli, to please try and not to tag so many at once since they have to be examined individually. Recently, we've had about 15-40 PRODs a day so this is a huge increase. Of course, they can be handled after their expiration time which is what will probably happen but if you have any admin talk page stalkers, maybe they could offer a hand as well. Thanks! Liz Read! Arbitration

  • A motion has standardised the 500/30 (extended confirmed) restrictions placed by the Arbitration Committee. The standardised restriction is now listed in the Arbitration Committee's procedures.
  • Following the closure of the Iranian politics case, standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, post-1978 Iranian politics, broadly construed.
  • The Arbitration Committee encourages uninvolved administrators to use the discretionary sanctions procedure in topic areas where it is authorised to facilitate consensus in RfCs. This includes, but is not limited to, enforcing sectioned comments, word/diff limits and moratoriums on a particular topic from being brought in an RfC for up to a year.

Miscellaneous

  • Editors have approved expanding the trial of Growth Features from 2% of new accounts to 25%, and the share of newcomers getting mentorship from 2% to 5%. Experienced editors are invited to add themselves to the mentor list.

These aren't "personal attacks", these are valid criticisms of the actions Muboshgu has chosen to take, sadly for all of us, actions I'm sure you're aware of if you've actually looked at the history of what they've done. Muboshgu is uniliterally and IMMEDIATELY deleting any edit I do, in multiple separate instances with invalid reasons such as "cannot add a header", which is false under wiki policy. @GhostDust: I and anyone else who may have come across that empty section would have no way of knowing that, which is why it is preferable to not add the section until you add the content. @Jarmusic23: There was a reversion edit done by this person (Muboshgu) that said "source says" is not confirmation. I am also pretty sure that the unwritten protocol with MLB edits of any kind is to wait until the team or teams involved officially announce the moves or hires. The Padres have yet to announce the move officially. I know this was directed at Muboshgu but as a fellow editor of MLB pages, I feel like I want to defend him/her to you because they helped set a precedent as an administrator on when it is okay to edit these baseball pages with moves and hirings. I've never really understood fandom. I mean, that one would support the Crimson Tide and Ajax makes perfect sense, but what is there in other teams/sports to admire? Anyway, I watched a bit of it, until the fourth inning or so, but every time someone hit a ball and the camera panned out to show that stadium, I was reminded of the stink about Atlanta not wanting to chip in three or four hundred million dollars to sponsor that private enterprise... Granted, football stadiums are even worse when it comes to waste--Bryant-Denny has, what, seven games a year, and I don't even think they rent it out for weddings (unless your name is Saban, maybe?). WikiCup 2021 November newsletter

The WikiCup is over for another year and the finalists can relax! Our Champion this year is Botswana The Rambling Man (submissions), who amassed over 5000 points in the final round, achieving 8 featured articles and almost 500 reviews. It was a very competitive round; seven of the finalists achieved over 1000 points in the round (enough to win the 2019 contest), and three scored over 3000 (enough to win the 2020 event). Our 2021 finalists and their scores were:

Hello Muboshgu,

Hope all is well. I work for the Bob Feller Act of Valor Award Foundation as an intern and have been tasked with maintaining upkeep of our Wikipedia page. I have been seeking to include a reference on our award winners and 37 Hall of Fame awardees wiki pages under the Career highlights and awards sections of their respective pages. I notice you have reverted a lot of them and am curious what your advice would be to ensure that these edits are okay to be made to their pages. Blschmida, thank you for declaring your conflict of interest. The player style advice that you edited was determined by WP:CONSENSUS of baseball-related editors, so you can't change that unilaterally. The consensus is that the Bob Feller Act of Valor Award does not belong in the infobox of the winner's article. Regarding common names and page titles, it really does feel as though we have perplexingly inconsistent treatment across the project. It occurred to me when revisiting redirects such as heart attack and Zoloft. Maybe there's some esoteric exception for medical terms, who knows. :-)

Really disappointed with you as an administrator

So because I'm having an issue with one person, or probably another one, that is undoing my edits for no reasonalbe grounds, I'm subject to being blocked despite my genuine and honest contributions. I doubt you even went through my comment above, to come and be threatening me like this. Anyway I'm just trying to contribute to society, so please don't threaten me, OK. All I have been doing is help. You can even go through my edit history and even on Commons and see how much I have contributed here. Hassanjalloh1, you are subject to being blocked for edit warring. Edit warring is unacceptable even if your contributions are "genuine and honest", even if you are trying to help. Ask any other admin and I'm sure they'll tell you that I've been kind and generous to you given your behavior today. I'm glad you try to understand my point of view. I was never doing it because I thought it was fashionable. My reasons were genuine. I did it, I tested it and it worked, and then I decided to apply it across, then one editor took it as "spamming". Like I said, I don't have much to do about it, because it was just one person, or probably two, that was actually undoing all my edits throughout. It was not like many people where againast it. Question about sourcing for you

I included three RS explicitly describing Paul Gosar as "far right," but Bill Williams produced ten RS that do not explicitly describe Gosar as such. Is that lack of a descriptor considered the same as saying he's not "far right," and thus the ten sources prevail and the three sources should be removed? Or should the ten RS be treated as silent and neutral on the issue, and the three RS should remain? If 1000 sources don't mention Biden is a moderate Democrat for every one that does, should we not call him a moderate Democrat? soibangla (talk) 21:54, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

Soibangla, I don't think that the omission of the label is evidence that he doesn't meet the label. It may be better to focus on why he's been referred to as far-right than worry too much about the label. Could also be a good question for WP:BLP/N. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:57, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
Soibangla decided to use OR[5] to call 45 Republican representatives far-right when that is not what most reliable sources generally refer to them as, then he called me wrong[6] instead of providing further evidence, after which he virtually laughed at me[7] instead of actually discussing it on the talk page with me. I am not saying that he is not far-right, but putting it a few words into the article implies it is a significant portion of what is used to describe him, which it is not, only being occasionally used. Jay, it's my standard practice, though probably more from personal preference. I see it as, in the worst case scenario, an attempt to get around a deletion decision. Though surely many such editors making these requests do want to make good faith improvements. When in doubt, ask the deleting admin their thoughts. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Johnny Spasm, edit summaries do not allow for the conveyance of all information, and by no means is that article in any completed state. I read through what the article was and I saw a lot of detail that didn't directly relate to Mumphrey, and some language that I thought was subjective and distracting. One of which was a quote attributed to Dallas Green in quotation marks and the reference had no such thing. Jerry Mumphrey isn't an isolated instance. I have found similar problems in SP's edits to Bobby Floyd, Tom Underwood, and Charley Smith at least. When an editor regularly puts into an article something referenced and the reference doesn't verify the info, I begin to question every reference done by that editor. I've encountered Mumphrey like edits in SP's work on at least a half dozen occasions. Honestly this is a problem Wikipedia-wide. I hadn't checked the references fully. I was seeing things like After going 0-for his first-11, Mumphrey put together a modest eight game hitting streak. Playing the San Francisco Giants on July 6, Mumphrey went 4-for-5 with three runs and an RBI.[5] The next day, Giants pitcher John Montefusco faked a throw to third, and spun around to pick Mumphrey off first base. Instead of being tagged out, Mumphrey got in a rundown, allowing Mike Tyson to score from third. Mumphrey was also safe at second.[6] and was questioning why we would have two sentences on an eight-game hitting streak, and then two sentences on a routine rundown. CSD deletion rationale for drafts

Hello, Muboshgu,

I've started to look over expiring drafts and deleting ones that appear to be an attempt at creating a social media profile like you'd see on Facebook. They aren't article drafts in any way shape or form, but they also aren't really "advertising". They appear to be the result of a very new editor not knowing what an encyclopedia is or what it is for.

The article title is always their name and they have information like their parent's names, their high school and what they want to do after their schooling. So, they have autobiographical information like you would have on a Linked In or Facebook profile but they are often the editor's only edit on Wikipedia. So, somewhere they got the idea that they should create a personal Wikipedia page. I've marked them both as "test edits" and "promotional". If there is even a hint of an actual draft of an article, I leave it to be deleted via G13. I sincerely doubt that any of these editors will return and make a request at WP:REFUND for the return of their draft but I wanted to mention doing this to the admins who regular patrol REFUND in case you come across this combination of deletion rationales. I wish we had a CSD rationale of "attempt at a social media profile page" but we don't so this is my temporary solution. If you have strong objections to this approach, let me know. They just don't seem like pages that should be restored as regular G13s because they aren't article drafts that will ever be moved to main space.

Greetings Muboshgu. While reading some talk pages I was alerted to an egregious case of WP:COATRACK at Members of the Council on Foreign Relations with repeated quotes linking some of these people to Jeffrey Epstein [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] [17], among other links. In my view this is serious enough for an Epstein topic ban or even a wider BLP ban. What do you think I should do? Should I take it to BLPN or ANI? Problem with an editor categorizing sportspeople articles.

I'm referring to this talk page discussion[18] with Grutness. He is overcategorizing sportspeople by city categories on a massive scale. Take for instance, Jerry Kindall. He puts them in Baseball players from Saint Paul, Minnesota but leaves them in Sportspeople from Saint Paul. Why? Because they were some form of coach or manager. Grutness has also done this for sportspeople who were annnouncers or writers and in one case[19] a golf architect. He's done this hundreds of times, at least 3 other editors have reverted an edit or edits of his. He responded. They wrote in part- "Yes, this situation has been deliberately done on some 7,000 articles, and for a very good reason. Category:Sportspeople from New Orleans was deliberately left on the page in addition to Category:Baseball players from New Orleans because Pollet was not just a player but also a coach. This is standard practice across recategorisation schemes such as this one, in order to still have the person searchable as a sportsman involved in other activities than simply playing a sport, and also making it easier to later recategorise if and when a Category:Baseball coaches from New Orleans category gets made (which it probably will - I'll be dealing with coach categories once I finish player ones)." In this section of my talk page, Grutness wrote[23] 'Hi WilliamJE - re edits like this, those general sportspeople categories are being temporarily retained to make it easier to search for coaches, executives, journalists, and officials (categories for them are going to be started once I've finished the player categories) - please don't remove any of them! I've rolled back the lasty 60 or so edits of the sort made by you - please revert the others, otherwise the articles will not get the appropriate coach etc categories.' Reverted updates

I do not understand why my recent updates were reverted. You qoute "seems to be promotion" but that is not the case. Any updated I have made is concerning the music industry in which I monitor and am well educated in. The posts are not promotional, but are 100% true and factual an informational. I request that your changes to "Revert" be removed.

I live in a certain region and have knowledge of various music awards and information on Joe Exotic. The post concerning Joe Exotic is factual and shows that he is being represented by a promotional company called The Mississippi Music Project, which is a non-profit. The Wiki page lists his attorney and other associates concerned with his case, but you delete his promotional team?

I am not associated with The Mississippi Music Project in any way, but I have reported their awards and Hall of fame inductions, which are highly regarded in the music industry.

Draft:Nazar Pankiv was eligible for a refund but you turned down the request. Is that because you judged the content of the draft to be unacceptable? I know there are a couple of admins who occasionally drop into WP:REFUND who regularly turn down valid G13 requests if they find the draft content lacking but it seems like you have been more accommodating to requests from editors wanting their drafts back. Liz, sometimes, a draft that went through AFC says "submission declined". Others, including this one, say "submission rejected". The draft would have been an A7 if it was in mainspace, and Nazarasvitlo is here only for self-promotion. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:35, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. OK, fair point. I assumed that in order to go into the article, I would have to find WP:RS, preferably WP:MEDRS, supporting it. I used the word "blasted" for conciseness, and I wouldn't say that in Wikipedia's voice.

But this brings up one of my greatest annoyances in Wikipedia: That editors apply the opposite standards in different articles.

Could you look at this discussion in Irwin Redlener?

In May 2020 Redlener said an effective COVID-19 vaccine would not be proven safe for at least another year; after distribution of a vaccine was authorized by the Food and Drug Administration in December 2020 Politico named Redlener's prediction one of "the most audacious, confident and spectacularly incorrect prognostications about the year".[20]

I think this is the same situation. It's a single opinion, from a source that isn't a WP:MEDRS or even accurate, in a WP:BLP, which the individual's assistant has asked WP to remove. I made what I think are good arguments based on WP policies and guidelines, but these editors just rejected them without really answering them, and outvoted me. Consensus is not a vote. It got too exhausting to pursue it any more, but now that I have an admin's attention, do you think that this paragraph also violates WP policies and guidelines?

@Nbauman:, for a comment like this I don't think you need to "notify" anybody. That's about if you take the issue to AN/I or similar board.
I agree that it's a problem when policies aren't adhered to on different pages. An issue here is that, before I click on any link, I have no idea who Irwin Redlener is, so its obviously not a page that's on my watchlist. Another issue is that, while I am aware of WP:MEDRS, I don't consider myself well-versed enough in those articles to be implementing its rigorous procedures. I imagine there are other admins who are active in the MEDRS area that could probably better address the issues with that bio.
Also, I found this article regarding Becerra, talking about how he's not that involved in the Biden administration COVID response, which would be appropriate for Becerra's bio. Topol's criticisms of Becerra may not be valid based on the fact that Becerra is more involved in non-COVID things while Biden has Fauci, Zeints, Walensky etc leading that response. Just a thought, as I haven't watched his grand rounds presentation. (And I do understand and appreciate that language used on talk pages aren't intended to be inserted into a BLP, but we should still tr to be neutral on talk pages too).
So what do I do about the Irwin Redlener page? This happens repeatedly on Wikipedia. Somebody violates WP rules and guidelines, including WP:BLP, I object to it, they get WP:3O from people who know nothing about the subject to outnumber me, and if I make the change anyway they revert it and I'm liable to get sanctioned for edit warring. Who is an Admin who could make a judgment about that apparent WP:BLP violation? --Nbauman (talk) 20:59, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
@Nbauman:, I did take a look at it and I don't think it's a violation of BLP. As Seraphimblade says, it's properly attributed to Politico. That said, I see your point that a collection or wrong predictions in a Politico article could be WP:UNDUE. I would need to know more about how much Redlener says and does on COVID vaccines to know if I think its DUE. That discussion looks to have petered out in August. Could rise to the level of an RfC if you want more eyes on it than its gotten. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:07, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
