A Request[edit]

Long time chelsea fan here. I have a sincere request but before that i want to acknowledge something here. You and every chelsea fan knows what Petr is in history of football. I believe and many know it that by stats, he is undoubtedly the greatest pl gk of all time yet some hypocrites don't consider him even one of the greatest. I have plenty of references through which i can prove that he is one of the greatest of all time like jens and arsene's statement but a wikipedian named Boing!said zebedee tends to be his and mine's biggest hater and is reverting my edits without reason. Please look out the matter brother. Its for the respect of Petr cech and chelsea. I just want you to add-"He is considered by many to be one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time" to the page's front and for your convenience i want to tell you that its very easy to find the reference for this info and could be found by just searching-"Wenger on cech and Jens lehmann on cech". I would be really grateful to you if you do so and in fact, many would be. Well wishes from an azzuri, a Bianconerri, a zanetti and buffon fan. 117.225.100.19 (talk) 11:02, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, 1978 FIFA World Cup Group 1[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, 1978 FIFA World Cup Group 1. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – 1978_FIFA_World_Cup. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at 1978_FIFA_World_Cup – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the page be "userfied" or emailed to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Eduemoni↑talk↓ 03:29, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 2012 in American soccer, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Jose Velasquez (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup[edit]

2003 FIFA Women's World Cup Adding a link to a page that doesn't exist is usually frowned-up. Please write the article first. I have added a redirect to the article that you were pointing to and so now it's a clear violation of WP:OVERLINK where the article links back to itself. October 2013[edit]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did to Ermen Benítez, without verifying it by citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. GiantSnowman 10:37, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand what you mean by "clearly was of Afro-Ecuadorian desent" - is that just original research based on skin colouring, or has it been verified by reliable sources? Either way, the fact that you have therefore "asumed that so was his father" is a massive no-no. Please read WP:BLPCAT. GiantSnowman 13:31, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I also note that this is not the only article where you have been adding unreferenced categories relating to race, please stop at once. GiantSnowman 13:34, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize if I broke any Wikipedia rule. However if some one in Ecuador is Euadorean, and of African desent, then it is in my opinion safe to assume that they fit in the Afro-Ecuadorian category. Like wise there is no proof that Édison Méndez clearly is of Afro-Ecuadorian desent, he could be an indeginous Australian who came to Ecuador, or some other race but I find this very unlikely. If you go on google Images you can clearly see that all of the people I added to this category have dark skin, & other African features and are from their respective conterys. Most articles about race in Wikipedia are unperpoulated, and I meant no harm. In this link: http://www.larepublica.ec/blog/gente/2013/07/29/reportan-que-el-padre-del-chucho-benitez-ya-no-viaja-a-qatar/ , you can clearly see Ermen with his son and they seem to be Afro-Ecuadorian. Inter&anthro (talk) 13:43, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In addition I doubt there are many people who have a compleat list of their geneologies and can trace their ancestries all the way to thier place of origin. If this is what is required on wikipedia then undo my edites. Inter&anthro (talk) 13:45, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
But we need a reliable source which verifies that they are of African descent - not just a photograph that shows they have skin of a certain colour. Not all people with black skin are African - and if you believe in evolution (like I do) then we are all of African descent! GiantSnowman 13:47, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I hope that your comment was not based on any religios steryotype you have as I have belived in evolution my whole life. I agree that skin color alone does not prove that they are of African descent. But how many Indigenous Australians do you think live in Ecuador? Since people of African desent form a sizeable popoulation of Ecuador and since many of them play for Ecuador I think that we can say with 99.9% acuracy that at least some of Ermen Benítez's descent comes from Africa. If by reliable source you mean that I must find a compleat list of his geniology or a DNA test then why do we place people in categories at all? Must I provide a source to prove that Ermen Benítez's name is Ermen? Inter&anthro (talk) 13:59, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I will not continue this edit war, if you undue my edits again I will not undo yours but I hope you take into consideration my argument. THank you. Inter&anthro (talk) 14:01, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If a player being of African ancestry has not been covered in reliable sources then we should not cover it on Wikipedia, it is as simple as that. GiantSnowman 15:07, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. Afro-Ecuadorian is a real culture and comunity in Ecuador with real members, just as Italian American. I'd also like to point out that I did not create Category:Ecuadorian people of African descent but simply saw it was underpoulated and saw the opertunity to add articels I felt belonged there. I know race is a touchy subject, but I do not see the harm of placing people in a category because of that. Another Ecuadorean soccer player named Iván Kaviedes is placed in the Category:Ecuadorian people of Greek descent category and you are not making a big deal about that.Inter&anthro (talk) 15:19, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You misunderstand me. Look at it this way - if Afro-Ecuadorian is a big element of Ecuadorian culture, then I would expect prominent members of that community (such as Benítez) to have that discussed in national newspapers etc. But is hasn't been, as far as I can see. GiantSnowman 15:59, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry I did misunderstand you I thought you wanted to delet the category. However Afro-Ecuadorian are mentioned in articles about soccer in Ecuador. take a look at these articles if you have time: http://www.wbez.org/episode-segments/2011-08-17/afro-ecuadorians-gain-visibility-through-soccer-90709, http://www.kckrs.com/dreamtown-shines-light-on-afro-ecuadorian-struggle-to-escape-poverty-through-soccer/, & http://ahorasecreto.blogspot.com/2010/10/in-chota-ecuador-hood.html. Religion and living people[edit]

Hello. An anonymous editor pointed out that a sentence in the Antonio Cassano page about his religious beliefs was sourced to a website called The Spoof, and the webpage cited was clearly marked "The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious. If you fancy trying your hand at comedy spoof news writing, click here to join!" Now I'm sure you wouldn't consider that a suitable source for a living person's beliefs now, but six months ago you apparently did.

As to the category, I presume that by now you'll have read the relevant bit of the Wikipedia policy about living people, but you might want to remind yourself of the bit that says (my highlighting):

Categories regarding religious beliefs or sexual orientation should not be used unless the subject has publicly self-identified with the belief or orientation in question, and the subject's beliefs or sexual orientation are relevant to their public life or notability, according to reliable published sources.

Thank you. Struway2 (talk) 08:07, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for that edit I made I sincerely apologize I had not noticed the fact that the website was considered a spoof site. I promise it will not happen again.Inter&anthro (talk) 22:48, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

International goals[edit]

The information needs citing directly - another source perhaps being somewhere else in the article is simply not good enough. GiantSnowman 09:22, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That is a nothing argument, rarely is there a place for references in the international goal section. If in the international career section it says scored goal against team A, (reference) then two months latter scored against team B, (reference), than scored the next year against team C, (reference), then it is still okay for in the international goal section to have goals against teams A. B, & C. Also in the two years I have edited Wikipedia rarely have I seen vandalism in the international goal section. It simply is a case of you not looking closely enough for the citations and just giving up and deleting the whole section, and this deletionists attitude is not helpful to the article or Wikipedia at all. Thank You. Inter&anthro (talk) 17:04, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

League categories for players[edit]

Hey Inter, just wanted to remind you that you can not add a league category to a players page until that player has played in the league. This was the case in Syed Shoaib Ahmed where you added Category:I-League players when Syed has not even played in the I-League yet. He needs to play 1 game before the template is added. Same for other players and leagues. Cheers. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 22:51, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Categories[edit]

Hi there I&A, from Portugal,

like you did in Javier Patiño, please don't add sub-categories like "a. football strikers". The categories should be goalkeepers, defenders (which includes fullbacks and stoppers), midfielders (includes defensive, attacking, playmakers, etc) wingers and forwards (includes centre forwards and strikers).

I watched many Pokemon episodes, and Ash Ketchum is obviously an atheist. He doesn't practice a religion in any episode and seems to be indifferent to god. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 100.9.204.86 (talk) 21:19, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your incite but please back it up with a reliable source rather than assumption. Since I could find no reliable reference that is why I undid your edit. Thank You. Inter&anthro (talk) 21:24, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I felt that information was worth preserving, so I saved it when it was deleted. Besides, Ash Ketchum would make a great atheistic role model, and would be an inspiration for children everywhere. He is a very moral person and would be a positive example for atheists.

Daria never explicitly confirmed that she is an atheist, too. But no one has deleted Daria's entry. 100.9.204.86 (talk) 21:26, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Come on, Ash Ketchum deserves to be on the prestigious list. 100.9.204.86 (talk) 20:06, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I did a quick search and could find no reliable sources to indicate his religious beliefs. What's more this topic has already been discussed in detail here. Unless you can provide a reliable source please do not add unsourced information especially about a potentially disputed subject such as religion or ethnicity that require a reference. Thank you. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Va Sokthorn, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Proposed deletion of 2015 SAFF Championship Group A[edit]

The article 2015 SAFF Championship Group A has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A separate article on the group is not needed for a regional competition that only features teams from South Asia. These are usually reserved for FIFA World Cup and continental competitions.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Odvan[edit]

Any evidence in reliable sources he is of African descent? GiantSnowman 18:14, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@GiantSnowman it is listed in one of these sections in this boring science article that he may be related to a native skeleton as well as being of African descent, and on Portuguese Wikipedia he is listed in this category pertaining to Brazilian footballers of African descent. While Odvan himself is not mentioned in this research paper it shows how being Afro-Brazilians and a footballer is important to their identity. While neither source is entirely conclusive I would say he is probably of African descent, and not let's say Meitei. Inter&anthro (talk) 18:41, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Aren't we all of African descent if you believe in evolution? Even if his ancestors came to Brazil 200 years ago from Africa (again, no source stating it!) then it is worth adding? Probably not. A line has to be drawn. GiantSnowman 19:37, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman Of course I believe in evolution (it says it on my user page), we had a similar disagreement a few years back. As mentioned here (although it is in Portuguese) football is an important part of Afro-Brazilians identity, so personally yeah I do think it is notable. Anyways I think we can agree to disagree, I won't change the page until a more conclusive source on his ancestry or ethnicity comes up. Cheers. Inter&anthro (talk) 19:48, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Malsawmtluanga[edit]

Hey mate. I don't think these two are the same. R Malsawmtluanga was part of the Mizoram squad in the National Games last year while the Malsawmtluanga who played for Royal Wahingdoh was on the bench for the club on 7 February, which would be in the middle of the tournament, and that too in Shillong which is far away from Kerala, where the National Games took place. So ya, just from that I think they are different. Cheers. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 21:28, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on a biased choice of users' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote. While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Commentary[edit]

Regarding edits like this - please don't. We don't need every game/goal/assist listed. We are an encyclopedia, after all. GiantSnowman 21:00, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@GiantSnowman: it is true we do not need every game and goal listed, but it was only his second and third goals for the club, only the second game he had ever scored in, and a major talking point of the match afterwards, why shouldn't that content be kept? Inter&anthro (talk) 21:03, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Because there is no evidence that the goals are notable. Where is the significant coverage? GiantSnowman 21:29, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: see here there at least 6 major websites/newspapers that have covered the match. What's more the content I added is not that different from the rest of the content in the article. This information is useful to the article, especially since there is almost nothing on the 2015-16 season. Inter&anthro (talk) 21:33, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Again, how is that notable content covered in significant detail? A few match reports is not enough. GiantSnowman 21:43, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: did you even read any of the match report? They all mentioned that these were Ward-Prowse's only second and third career league goals. This match is clearly notable in Ward-Prowse's career. You can argue that the fact that Ward-Prowse scored two goals today won't go down in any Southampton history book, but then again was the one goal Tim Howard or Jung Sung-ryong that influecnial in the long run either. Are there any Wikipedia policies forbidding the addition of this content to articles? Inter&anthro (talk) 21:50, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and there will no doubt be match reports in the future that mention his 4th and 5th goals, and his 10th and 20th etc. Would you include all of them? If you admit it wouldn't even make a fan book why on earth do you think it would make an encyclopedia? GiantSnowman 21:53, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: Yeah but he's not a regular goal scorer, and it wasn't just some random goals it was brace of goals to hand his team a much needed win. Your comments seem a bit hypercritical since in this edit you added that the player had signed a new contract, while the subject will probably go on to sign many more contracts throughout his career. What makes that information any more notable than this? Plus its not like Ward-Prowse is a regular goal scorer, he not even scores one a season, this information is fine in an encyclopedia. Inter&anthro (talk) 22:04, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
"brace of goals to hand his team a much needed win" - POV, OR, FANCRUFT - no, now even less than before. However, a player being awarded a contract (which only happens every few years and which is the subject of a news piece about it alone) is worthy of inclusion. GiantSnowman 22:08, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: Hardly a satisfactory explanation, I'm bringing this up on the WikiProject football talk page. Inter&anthro (talk) 22:11, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Intonation vs. tonal language[edit]

Tzotzil is not a tonal language and the article doesn't claim that it is. I assume you saw the section titled "intonation", and surmised that the presence of intonation meant that the language is tonal. However that is not the case. All languages have intonation, that is a necessary feature of speech and the use of tonal pitch to convey emphasis, provide cohesion and other pragmatic functions. Tonal languages are only those that use tone as part of the system pf phonemic contrasts. Tzotzil does not.·maunus · snunɐɯ· 16:26, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@User:Maunus sorry about that, but doesn't it mention in the lead section that Tzotzil is "unique for phonemic tones" (second paragraph of lead)? Inter&anthro (talk) 16:34, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
One dialect of Tzotzil has developed a pitch accent - it is that dialect that is unique (among Tzotzil dialects) because none of the others have phonemic tone. I will remove it from the lead, since it is not mentioned in the body of the article.·maunus · snunɐɯ· 16:55, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@User:Maunus but isn't that what makes that dialect in particular notable? Inter&anthro (talk) 16:57, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @ArsenalFan700, no problem about the statistics. I am a little unsure about reddit however, I usually do not use that website, I just usually use the usual boring soccerway.com and nationalfootballteams.com Inter&anthro (talk) 21:43, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bandarban[edit]

The deleted text had the following information:

  1. The Mru are famous for their music and dance.
  2. The Mru in major numbers have converted to Khrama (or Crama), the youngest religion in Bangladesh that prohibits much of their old ways.
  3. The Mru are assumed to be the original inhabitants of Bandarban.
  4. The Bawm converted almost totally to Christianity.
  5. The Bawm have taken full advantage of the church to become the most educated people in the district.
  6. The Marma are Arakanese descendants of Myanmar by origin and Buddhists by religion.
  7. The Marma are the second largest tribe in the hill districts of Bangladesh.
  8. The Khumi live in the remotest parts of the district.
  9. The Khumi are thought to include yet unexplored/ unclassified tribes.

I did not find them repeated anywhere else in the article. Can you, please, find any of those information repeated in the article? Aditya(talkcontribs) 04:26, 9 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Aditya Kabir: the text I deleted is in bold, the text right above it is normal

The Mru, also known as Murong, who are famous for their music and dance. The Mru in major numbers have converted to Khrama (or Crama), the youngest religion in Bangladesh that prohibits much of their old ways. They are assumed to be the original inhabitants of Bandarban. The Bawm are another major tribe here. Now converted almost totally to Christianity they have taken full advantage of the church to become the most educated people in the district. The Marma are Arakanese descendants of Myanmar by origin and Buddhists by religion, and are the second largest tribe in the hill districts of Bangladesh. The Khumi live in the remotest parts of the district, and the group is thought to include yet unexplored/ unclassified tribes.

These ethnic groups are again divided in hundreds of clans and sects, principally dominated by four religious threads - Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and a number of pagan faiths. All these clans and groups are clustered into two major ethnic families, namely the hill people and the valley people. Since the Kaptai dam flooded the valley creating to Kaptai lake, the valley people have started to live on hill tops along the hill people.

The Marma, also known as Magh, are of Arakanese descendants and Buddhists by religion, and are the second largest ethnic group in the hill districts of Bangladesh.

The Chakma and the Tanchangya are also closely related. The Khumi live in the remotest parts of the district, and the group is thought to include yet unexplored/ unclassified tribes.[citation needed]

Phạm Trọng Hoá[edit]

I have undone your revert for the following reasons:

  • My edit corrected the duplicate parameter error in the original version. Your edit put this error back in.
  • Persondata is now deprecated (since Wikidata has made it redundant). See WP:PERSONDATA#FAQ, from which you will note that it is now safe to remove Persondata. Your revert put it back in.
  • My edit put the categories in alphabetical order.
  • My edit put the wikicode into a much nicer form that is easier to read and to work with. More on this below.

Perhaps you didn't like the big, red, in-your-face error message about the missing translation. Well, the whole point is to make it big and ugly, so that editors will want to correct it. In any case, I have now done your work for you, and supplied a translation.

Note that I am using a private script (still being developed and improved) which has two main functions (1) to fix errors in citation templates (2) to put wikicode into a form which is much nicer to work with. I call this "Easy to visually parse", or "ETVP" for short. It also does a lot more (mostly to bring articles into line with the Manual of Style), but the main motivation is points (1) and (2).

I think long, horizontally formatted in-line citation templates make the wikicode almost impossible to read or to edit. Not surprising that the Wikimedia Foundation felt obliged to spend large sums of money to produce something like Visual Editor to try and get round this problem. Eventually my script will help automate the process of converting citations to either short-form or list-defined, or some combination of the two (always at the editor's choice), so that it will be easy to completely remove citation clutter from the body of an article. In the meantime putting citation templates into ETVP form, even leaving them in-line (not ideal) is still a huge improvement over horizontally formatted templates. Note, by the way, that for citation templates, "ETVP" is not the same as "vertical", far from it.

I think it's sad and bad that we've ended up with most articles still using horizontally formatted templates; this has happened partly because it's what editors get by default when they click the "cite" button above the edit window, and whoever set that up, didn't spend much time thinking it through properly. But it's encouraging that there is now a definite trend for Wikipedia:Good articles and Wikipedia:Featured articles to use nicely formatted templates using either the short-form or list-defined methods.

Anyway, the above is by way of explanation of what lies behind my edit. My script is still experimental, so I won't revert you if you turn the sole citation template back into the horrible horizontal form by removing the line breaks; I think it's ugly, mistaken, silly, and totally unacceptable, but I won't revert you for that. The problem of horizontal templates and citation clutter needs to be dealt with at a Wikipedia-wide level, not by edit warring over a single article. However I WILL revert you if you put the duplicate argument error back in!

--NSH002 (talk) 09:57, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@@NSH002: I don't see why you're so worked up about horizontal templates, I've always used them and they work fine. This seems to be more a case of what people find athletically pleasing when editing. Personally I find horizontal citation easier to use than vertical, which is far more cumbersome and confusing for me. Also besides that all you changed was the order of the categories and spacing. This is simply a case of WP:I don't like it, there is no Wikirule about what citation template you may use, either gets the job done.
If you noticed the Persondata was not added back when I undid you're edit. The main reason I undid you're edit was because of how you reordered the Categories, in which you claim the better order is alphabetical. However I strongly disagree, WP:COMMONSENSE would say that the birth category should go first (because that's when they where born), then whether their living or dead. Category:Vietnamese footballers goes next because that's what the subject is most well known for and so on. I've re-added the original order of the categories although I left your citation method untouched. There isn't any rule how to organize categorys but personally I think categories should be ranked in order of importance. Good day and happy editing :) Inter&anthro (talk) 12:28, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, you are quite right about Persondata, I should have looked at your diff rather than your edit summary. Sorry about that. On category order, I don't have any strong feelings. I merely note that birth year comes first either way, and that you are the first to complain since I began doing this (some time ago, but can't remember exactly when). You should be aware that some other editors also put categories in alphabetical order, so you might want to put a hidden comment in not to change the order. But horizontal templates are a major proctalgia, because they make it impossible to do any serious editing on larger articles. They make it impossible to follow the "flow" of an article; they also make it much harder to spot errors in templates. I simply refuse to edit (apart from spelling corrections and similar trivial changes) any large articles that are cluttered up with long horizontal templates. The best solution is to move them completely out of the article body – but that is a discussion best held elsewhere. BTW, your ping didn't work (I can't see why not, as you correctly signed at the same time.) --NSH002 (talk) 15:55, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Invite to the African Destubathon[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:36, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding this edit, where you say "does not violate WP:BLPCAT": well, yes it does.

WP:BLPCAT says: Categories regarding religious beliefs (or lack of such) or sexual orientation should not be used unless the subject has publicly self-identified with the belief or orientation in question, and the subject's beliefs or sexual orientation are relevant to their public life or notability, according to reliable published sources. [emphasis mine] Since Pletikosa's beliefs cannot be demonstrated to be relevant to his public life or notability, the category should not be used. GregorB (talk) 21:26, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@GregorB: sorry I believe you are wrong about this edit, Pletikosa has 1.) identified with his beliefs, and 2.) Pletikosa wears a shirt associated with his faith in every match he plays in and has publicly expressed it. This makes it relevant to the topic and worthy of mention and a category in the article. It is a relevant part of the subject's public life. You also claimed that this category is inappropriate for the article, but if the subject of the article has already expressed publicly that he is a part of this organization/faith/movement whatever you want to call it that categorizing the article in this category is not inappropriate nor does it spread falsehoods about the subject of the article. Inter&anthro (talk) 22:14, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@GregorB: please read WP:CAT/R, according to that I made no mistake in reinstating the category. Inter&anthro (talk) 22:20, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I never said WP:CAT/R was violated - I believe WP:BLPCAT was, per the above quote. Pletikosa is notable and well-known virtually only as a footballer. The article says only the following about his faith:
Pletikosa is a practicing Roman Catholic who is known to wear a T-shirt with a picture of the Virgin Mary under his uniform for good luck when he plays.
That is unremarkable (many sportspeople wear religious symbols), unimportant (has a negligible effect on his life or public image), and lacks depth of coverage (amounts to a single sentence in the article).
For a correctly applied category, see e.g. Čedo Antolić. GregorB (talk) 18:53, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there mate, how are you?

So, I reverted myself because there's already a page named Rúben Gouveia in this WP, about the very same player. We need to histmerge/move Ruben Gouveia to the correct naming, but I can't do it because I'm not an admin. I started a section in WT:FOOTY asking for this move, let's see if someone does it. Hi. Thankyou for your participation in the challenge series or/and contests. In November The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There will be over $4000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. If this would appeal to you and you think you'd be interested in contributing new articles on women during this month for your region or wherever please sign up in the participants section. The articles done may also count towards the ongoing challenge. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate and raise money to buy books about women for others to use, this is also fine. Help would also be appreciated in drawing up the lists of missing articles. If you think of any missing articles please add them to the sub lists by continent at Missing articles. Thankyou, and if taking part, good luck!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:09, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Biographies of filmmakers[edit]

Hello! Just a reminder, the Film project does not cover biography articles. Therefore, the {{WikiProject Film}} banner should not be added to articles about actors, directors and filmmakers. Those articles are covered by adding |filmbio-work-group=yes to {{WikiProject Biography}} instead. This applies to all of the film task forces as well, which means that the Indian cinema task force does not include articles about Indian actors, directors and filmmakers, and consequently should not have the |cinema=yes parameter on the {{WikiProject India}} banner. Thanks! Fortdj33 (talk) 14:00, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fortdj33 sorry I was ignorant about that, I'll keep it in mind for the future. Thanks for letting me know! Inter&anthro (talk) 16:28, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. We're into the last five days of the Women in Red World Contest. There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. If you haven't contributed yet, we would appreciate you taking the time to add entries to our articles achievements list by the end of the month. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!

Need your Suggestion[edit]

Hello Inter&anthro I just want to confirm myself regarding the policy regarding restoring the article on Wikipedia. An article Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem, under 17 Indian Player is created by a Wikipedia user but later deleted as it not fulfill the WP:NFOOTBALL. See discussion Dheeraj is recently joined the 2017–18_I-League and will be available to play for his club Indian Arrows. Did his biography article meet the criteria now under WP:NFOOTBALL as he joined fully professional league. Can we restore It or Not. Please suggest. सुमित सिंह (talk) 10:46, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @सुमित सिंह:, hope you are doing well. According to WP:NFOOTY a player is presumed notable if they have played in or managed in a professional game. So in short Moirangthem is not notable right now, but if he ever does make an appearance in the I-league he will be considered notable. The same is true for the other articles that were deleted in the AFD discussion.
When Moirangthem (and/or the other u-17 players of India's squad) ever make their debut, you do not have to necessarily re-create the whole article, you can go to Requests for undeletion and submit the article for undeletion, or you can message the administrator who closed the AFD to undelete the article. Just a fair warning though as this can take some time. An article that I started myself Elio Capradossi was nominated for May 2014 and was not recreated until October 2016. Inter&anthro (talk) 13:28, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Inter&anthro: Thanks सुमित सिंह (talk) 04:16, 28 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Orn Chanpolin[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because even though the creator of the article is a banned user, the subject of the article still technically passes WP:NFOOTY, see here. - Inter&anthro (talk) 14:36, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Inter&anthro: Please see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Orn Chanpolin for reference. Hhhhhkohhhhh (talk) 14:51, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes but last month Chanpolin made his debut in a FIFA sanctioned match (see here) so the subject of the article passes WP:NFOOTY. This was not the case when the article was AFDed. Inter&anthro (talk) 14:55, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of Barbadian Britons, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Gary Young (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Re: Deleted players[edit]

Why restore them? I already created them at Dheeraj Singh, Rahul Praveen, and Amarjit Singh Kiyam. None of them were as organized, clean, and had as much information as my articles? Just because they were created before when they were not notable doesn't mean they should be restored like that. Just leave it the way it is. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 21:55, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@ArsenalFan700: that's fine but I feel that the first article should be moved to Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem per WP:COMMONNAME as that's seems to be the most common name used in the media 1 2 3. Inter&anthro (talk) 22:07, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello WOSO editors! A few initiatives have been started with an emphasis on making more WOSO links blue (similar to the work that WikiProject Women in Red does) and filling in the gaps within various league, team, and player, etc. articles.

If you're interested in collaborating with others to make more links blue, take a look at the initiatives listed in the box below. Sign up at the bottom of an initiative page and help grow the lists, add potential references, resources, and create the articles ... or create your own initiative.

Did you know ...

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NFOOTY (which only includes the players in 1 active women's league)? Often times there is enough media coverage that meets WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. For more information, see WP:WOSO#Notability and be sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}

Has an article you worked on been nominated for deletion? See:

Invitation to WikiProject Portals[edit]

The Portals WikiProject has been rebooted.

You are invited to join, and participate in the effort to revitalize and improve the Portal system and all the portals in it.

There are sections on the WikiProject page dedicated to tasks (including WikiGnome tasks too), and areas on the talk page for discussing the improvement and automation of the various features of portals.

Many complaints have been lodged in the RfC to delete all portals, pointing out their various problems. They say that many portals are not maintained, or have fallen out of date, are useless, etc. Many of the !votes indicate that the editors who posted them simply don't believe in the potential of portals anymore.

It's time to change all that. Let's give them reasons to believe in portals, by revitalizing them.

The best response to a deletion nomination is to fix the page that was nominated. The further underway the effort is to improve portals by the time the RfC has run its course, the more of the reasons against portals will no longer apply. RfCs typically run 30 days. There are 19 days left in this one. Let's see how many portals we can update and improve before the RfC is closed, and beyond.

A healthy WikiProject dedicated to supporting and maintaining portals may be the strongest argument of all not to delete.

We may even surprise ourselves and exceed all expectations. Who knows what we will be able to accomplish in what may become the biggest Wikicollaboration in years.

Let's do this.

See ya at the WikiProject!

Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   10:21, 21 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

On 27 April 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article St. Lawrence Anglican Cathedral Ambohimanoro, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that St. Lawrence Anglican Cathedral Ambohimanoro, one of the first Anglican churches in Madagascar, was designed by William White? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/St. Lawrence Anglican Cathedral Ambohimanoro. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, St. Lawrence Anglican Cathedral Ambohimanoro), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

May you create the new article about "Oki Rengga Winata"? He is an Indonesian pro soccer player who is also a famous comic or stand-up comedian. Now he do both of them and become famous since he join a stand up comedy competition last April. You can create it by translate from the page Oki Rengga Winata in Wikipedia Bahasa Indonesia. Thank you very much[edit]

The RfC discussion to eliminate portals was closed May 12, with the statement "There exists a strong consensus against deleting or even deprecating portals at this time." This was made possible because you and others came to the rescue. Thank you for speaking up.

By the way, the current issue of the Signpost features an article with interviews about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

I'd also like to let you know that the Portals WikiProject is working hard to make sure your support of portals was not in vain. Toward that end, we have been working diligently to innovate portals, while building, updating, upgrading, and maintaining them. The project has grown to 80 members so far, and has become a beehive of activity.

Our two main goals at this time are to automate portals (in terms of refreshing, rotating, and selecting content), and to develop a one-page model in order to make obsolete and eliminate most of the 150,000 subpages from the portal namespace by migrating their functions to the portal base pages, using technologies such as selective transclusion. Please feel free to join in on any of the many threads of development at the WikiProject's talk page, or just stop by to see how we are doing. If you have any questions about portals or portal development, that is the best place to ask them.

If you would like to keep abreast of developments on portals, keep in mind that the project's members receive updates on their talk pages. The updates are also posted here, for your convenience.

Again, we can't thank you enough for your support of portals, and we hope to make you proud of your decision. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   10:50, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.: if you reply to this message, please {{ping}} me. Thank you. -TT

Adil Sassa[edit]

Reverted your edit. Sadly bots are rarely bright enough to work out a required category from the article text - that would be a WP:CONTEXTBOT, and they are only rarely approved. The bot only uses the categories in the article as they are properly defined. If you want to see the logic then see Wikipedia:Bot_requests/Archive_76#Association_footballers_not_categorized_by_position Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:57, 9 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ronhjones: thank you for the explanation, but I am a bit confused as in the Adil Sassa article it is written and referenced that the subject plays in the defender position, therefore the article surely must be in the respective category right? Thanks Inter&anthro (talk) 17:45, 9 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It has to be added manually at the bottom of the page. Either Category:Association football defenders or one of that category's sub-categories - check out A Hoàng for defender example. All Adil Sassa has in the category field is "Living people, Moroccan footballers, Moroccan people, African Nations Championship players, 2014 African Nations Championship players, 1981 births, Moroccan football biography stubs". Wiki has not evolved to a state where a category can be automatically deduced from the article content - would be nice, not for a long time, I suspect. When you edit the article the categories (can be anywhere) are normally right at the bottom of the edit window. Hope that makes sense. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:43, 9 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
So let me get this straight, the position category has to be the last category present so that RonBot can read it? Inter&anthro (talk) 18:46, 9 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline of the Mexican Drug War[edit]

Hi Inter&anthro. Thank you for your contributions to the Timeline of the Mexican Drug War. Just as a heads-up, murdered journalists and politicians (for the majority, mayors) are added at their respective list articles, see here and here. In the lead of the article of the Timeline of the Mexican Drug War, it reads: Note: To make the list more manageable, murdered politicians are listed separately in list of politicians killed in the Mexican Drug War, and journalists assassinated are listed at list of journalists killed in the Mexican Drug War. Other notable events in the ongoing conflict are included below. These two lists articles need a lot of attention. Would you be able to add your updates there? Regards, MX () 04:49, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@MX: Hello, thank you for the notification and my apologies for missing the message at the top of the article, I must have not seen it. I removed the content pertaining to Javier Valdez Cárdenas's murder, so far I have decided to keep the content of the January 1st murder of politicians in Mexico as it seems to have been a coordinated event and has received a fair bit of international coverage, however if you feel it doesn't belong on the first article feel free to remove it. Thanks Inter&anthro (talk) 05:05, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I think it's fine if we leave it there, and perhaps once the entire year is concluded and if we have a lot of updates, we can come back to it again and re-decide. Are you interested in writing more about the Mexican Drug War? This topic is largely under-represented, and as far as I know, I'm the only regular editor on the topic, unfortunately. MX () 05:34, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I do not regularly edit pertaining to the Mexican Drug War, my editing is in fact all over the place, but I started today after seeing this message a couple days ago. If there are any article I can help on please let me know. Inter&anthro (talk) 05:54, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to List of killings by law enforcement officers in the United States, January 2019. When you were adding content to the page, you added duplicate arguments to a template which can cause issues with how the template is rendered. In the future, please use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find these errors as they will display in red at the top of the page. Thanks! Category:People from Ubá[edit]

Information icon Before adding a category to an article, as you did to Category:People from Ubá, please make sure that the category page actually exists. In some cases, it may be appropriate to create a new category in accordance with Wikipedia's categorization guidelines, but it is usually better to use the most specific available existing category. It is never appropriate to leave a page categorised in a non-existent category, i.e. one whose link displays in red. Thank you. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 13:17, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What do you think about AIs on Wikipedia?[edit]

Hi Inter&anthro,

Thanks for your contributions. I saw your recent post on Teahouse, so I wanted to reach out. Are you interested in participating in a short interview to share your thoughts about how Wikipedia AIs should work? It would only take about 15-30 minutes over phone or video chat.

I am working in collaboration with Wikimedia Foundation staff to do this research, so if you decide to participate, your opinion could help build the future of Wikipedia. I’m personally contacting only a small handful of Wikipedia editors, so please let me know if you are interested or have any questions. Hope to talk to you soon!

A tag has been placed on Category:Zimbabwean Salafis requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. @DannyS712: You can go ahead an delete the category unless there are objections from any other editors. I think I misread one of the citations which lead me to mistakenly put the article into this category. Sincerely Inter&anthro (talk) 01:51, 10 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Editing help[edit]

Both web browsers that I use can do spell checking as I type text. You should see if you can turn on spell checking in your web browser for your editing. This is rather a lot of spelling problems. Shenme (talk) 04:57, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Shenme: my apologies about that, for some reason after the colors were added to the editing format the spell check no longer worked on firefox for me, which is the browser I usually use to edit. I'll try to switch to google chrome or some other type in the future. Sorry about that Inter&anthro (talk) 05:14, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for helping keep up with this. I used to do it years ago and I'm glad to see that it's still being updated.

@Inter&anthro: Just to let you know Wikipedia doesn't like to have adherents.com used as a reference. Since this website doesn't give references.Catfurball (talk) 17:12, 25 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You are 100% wrong[edit]

@Inter&anthro: You are 100% wrong Abel Kirui is a man and Priscah Jeptoo is a woman. Not even close are you blind as a bat.Catfurball (talk) 23:02, 25 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Catfurball: when did I ever say that Kirui was a woman or Jeptoo was a man? I reviewed all my edits I did to these two pages and could find nothing on gender. Please explain Inter&anthro (talk) 06:33, 26 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Inter&anthro: I looked at the Spectrum Magazine article closer and I saw Jeptoo listed just once, and there was no picture of her. So the reference that you added for her wasn't that good. But I did find a website that is much better,[13]. This website I connected to the articles Priscah Jeptoo, Abel Kirui & Amos Tirop Matui. And for the sports section for list of Seventh-day Adventists I added it by Mrs. Priscah Jeptoo, I tried adding it by Mr. Abel Kirui and Mr. Amos Tirop Matui, but sadly I failed to get the website to work as a reference by them. So you can add this website as a three some for this sports section.Catfurball (talk) 20:03, 26 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Additional Sources for Samina Akbari[edit]

I have searched a number of databases (Women's Studies International, Film & Television Literature Index, Lexis-Nexis, Ethnic Newswatch, Google Scholar, eDiscover) and found very little. However, an article from Moviemaker, Top Guns for Hire, looks promising and I've ordered it via ILL. I'll add to the entry anything I find once I receive it. I wanted to let you know that I’ve proposed an article that you started, Hsiao-Jou Tang, for deletion because it meets one of the relevant criterion. The particular issue can be located in the notice, that is now-visible at the top of the article.

If you wish to prevent the deletion:

Do you think these two articles should have the "Unidentified serial killers"-category?[edit]

You added the "Unidentified serial killers"-category to the Seminole Heights serial killer-article, with your edit summary being "suspect has not yet been convicted" (See here). Do you think the Golden State Killer-article and the Maryvale serial shooter-article should also have that category? At the time of this writing, both of those articles mention a suspect having been arrested, but if either suspect has pleaded guilty or been convicted, I see no mention of that in either article (at least not at the time of this writing). So do you think those articles should also have the "Unidentified serial killers"-category until the suspects either pleads guilty or are convicted? Heart of Destruction (talk) 09:08, 19 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Heart of Destruction Personally I would say yes, as no one has yet been convicted of these crimes and legally speaking the perpetrator is still unidentified. It is a tricky one though as for example in the Golden State Killer case the suspect has been linked by DNA to the murders and rapes, and it is pretty far fetched to believe that anyone else could be responsible. I will start a discussion on the talk page of the Serial Killer Task Force to further discuss this issue, thank you for your message. Inter&anthro (talk) 13:09, 19 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

About an edit you made to the Juan David Ortiz-article[edit]

You made an edit to the Juan David Ortiz-article, writing that Ortiz's trial "begain" in April 2019, giving this as the url. At the time of this writing, that link says (and I qoute): "Families of the victims allegedly killed by a U.S. Border Patrol agent got an early look at the defendant Thursday during a pretrial hearing." If it was during a pretrial hearing, I am pretty sure that the link in question isn't saying that the trial "begain" in April 2019. Heart of Destruction (talk) 14:27, 20 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October![edit]

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing participants in the following manner:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Diversity winner
  • Gender-gap fillers

For further information about the contest, the recognition categories and how to participate, please visit the contest page here. For further inquiries, please leave comments on the contest talkpage or on the main project talkpage. See you around :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:50, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please be more cautious[edit]

Hello!
While I am grateful for your work, I have to ask you to be more cautious when creating a page. I notice a trend (e.g.: here and here): you tend to create pages without finishing them (lack of information) and without much care (the infoboxes in those two articles were clearly copy-pasted and not corrected enough). Moreover, in the case of those articles, it would be a very good idea to translate the Russian versions into English, as those versions are very complete and often up to date. Veverve (talk) 01:14, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Veverve: Thank you for your message, I apologize about the mistakes found in the two aformentioned articles, I am not an Orthodox Christian nor am I fluent in Russian so I'm abit unfamiliar with the subject. I tend not to directly translate as in using translation tools online these translation are often have mistakes in grammar and spelling. The next time I am starting an article regarding a bishop of this church I will start it in a draft or userspace and then I will message you before I move it to the mainspace so that you and other editors who are more faimiliar with the subject can fix and add the apropriate information. Inter&anthro (talk) 01:46, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your quick answer. I do not speak Russian either, I assumed you were a Russian-speaker since you used some sources in Russian those article. I am not Orthodox either, thought I became a bit familiar with the subject.
As for translations, Google Translate, while having some imperfections of course, manages most of the time to translate Russian into English properly. Very often, a human hand (e.g. a Wikipedia editor) can pretty easily correct Google Tran.'s mistakes in those cases (I speak from experience). Besides, feel free to ask me if you need any help, I will help if I can. Veverve (talk) 02:06, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please see note on your DYK review. Frankly, I'm surprised you passed the article in the condition it's in. Did you read it? It has serious grammatical and neutrality problems, not to mention that it doesn't really establish why he's notable, other than he gets his name into the papers. Best, Yoninah (talk) 22:01, 12 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Yoninah: sorry about that, looking back there were a lot of warning signs I missed. I'll stay away from DYK reviews for a while and I'll return when I've got a better grasp of the basics down. Inter&anthro (talk) 23:49, 12 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Recently deceased persons.[edit]

Per WP:BDP the important policy WP:BLP applies to persons for a period after death, and I would generally suggest six months. I assume The key reason is to monitor recently deceased persons to the WP:BLP higher level at a sensitive time. Thankyou.Djm-leighpark (talk) 00:01, 24 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Djm-leighpark: thank you for your message, I assumed that if there is a reliable citation regarding death than the article should be removed from blp=yes and moved to blp=no, and if there is still information that is sensitive regarding the article than it should be moved to blpo=yes. However I'll stop removing the blp tags from the talk pages now thanks to your notice. Best Inter&anthro (talk) 00:36, 25 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Per disccusions/challenges on my talk page and on the BLP noticenotice (me taking to myself) I am feeling blpo=yes in the mourning period is appropriate which points the talk banner page at the page containing WP:BDP, and perhaps especially so for a newly created article immediately after death. DYK[edit]

Hello and merry Christmas!
I have tried to make a DYK propostion, but for a one-year-old page which has not been recently expanded. Is there still some way for me to propose it? Veverve (talk) 00:47, 25 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Veverve: Hi and thank you for the well wishes, regarding DYK eligibility, the article's history shows that it has been expanded in the last 7 days by 1,000 bytes give or take. Regarding the WP:DYKRULES and article must either be 1.) newly created 2.) expanded at least fivefold 3.) promoted to good article status in the last 7 days. I don't know how large the article is but is seems to be around 25,000 bytes. Almost all the nominations I have done or participated in have involved newly created articles, so I don't know if the recent expansion would qualify it for DYK. Possible solutions if the article is not accepted would be to expanded it some more, or nominated for Good Article, although there is the off chance that maybe the reviewer will accept it. Hope that helps. Inter&anthro (talk) 01:48, 25 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
So I have to either expand the article or make it into a good article, both of which I will probably not do. Thanks for your answer! Veverve (talk) 13:16, 25 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

BLP categories[edit]

Hi there. I noticed you recently re-inserted a number of religious and atheist categories on a number of biographies. Can I ask that you please have a read of WP:BLPCAT and WP:CAT/R? Specifically, BLPCAT states "Category names do not carry disclaimers or modifiers, so the case for each content category must be made clear by the article text and its reliable sources. Categories regarding religious beliefs (or lack of such) or sexual orientation should not be used unless the subject has publicly self-identified with the belief (or lack of such) or orientation in question, and the subject's beliefs or sexual orientation are relevant to their public life or notability, according to reliable published sources." What this means is that it isn't enough that a biography on Joe Bloggs has a sentence or two saying "Bloggs was raised a Catholic" or "Bloggs used to be a Catholic but said in an interview that he is now an atheist." - the two criteria that need to be applied are that Bloggs has a) self-identified as a member of a religion (or lack thereof) or orientation; and b) that Bloggs' notability derives from their religion (or lack thereof) or orientation. If you look at Category:Irish Roman Catholics, for example, you'll see it contains sub-cats of clergy members, but also prominent journalists, activists, rebels and revolutionaries, etc., whose public life/notability was mostly derived from their religious affiliation. Regards, BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 19:38, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

As I clearly demonstrated on Talk:Chloë Agnew, she, for one, is notable specifically for singing sacred music, such as music about Jesus and the Catholic Eucharist. I cannot see how you in good conscience can claim that her being Roman Catholic is not a defining characteristic of her notability. Elizium23 (talk) 00:38, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Bastun: Yes I have read the policies and would not have added these categories if it were not for the subjects meeting the standard. Cillian Murphy has publically identified with atheism and came to that view because of his career (see here), Chris O'Dowd has similarly done likewise and advocated for atheism (see here). By the standard Category:Irish atheists is perfectly appropriate for both. Likewise Chloë Agnew has sung religious music and identifies with the Roman Catholic faith (see here, source isn't great but works all the same). Thus Category:Irish Roman Catholics is a perfectly appropriate category. I could go on but I think you get the point. Thank you for your message. Inter&anthro (talk) 01:30, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
So in the examples you've given, Murphy, O'Dowd and Agnew meet one of the two BLPCAT criteria - namely the first one, public identification with a faith (or lack thereof); they still do not meet the second criterion - "relevant to their public life or notability." It's not enough to be a devout Catholic, Agnew's notability would need to derive from that fact. It doesn't - she's notable for being in the Celtic Woman group. Murphy and O'Dowd, likewise, aren't notable for being atheism activists, they're notable for being actors. Mary McAleese, by contrast, is known more and more for her engagement with the RC church and activism in that area, in addition to her previous notability as president, politician, and academic. BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 08:53, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Bastun: no, by your own logic Mary McAleese is primarily known for being the past president of Ireland, her faith is an aside. If WP:BLPCAT were to be implemented as you intepret it, biography articles would only be notable if they fit into categories such as Category:Atheism activists or Category:Irish Roman Catholic saints with categories such as Category:Irish atheists or Category:Irish Christians only being container categories. This comes at the cost that Wikipedia is an encycloedia, and readers might be intrested in a subject's belifes and use categories to navigate that intrest, the same way readers use other categories such as Category:People from Cork (city) if they have an intrest in people from Cork, though I doubht many biographical articles are notable primarily because the subject was from Cork or any other particular location. Inter&anthro (talk) 16:07, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nope. Absolutely, in the past, McAleese was primarily known for being a politician, then Ireland's president. However, much of her recent activity that's been publicly notable has been widely-reported activism around RCC issues and RC approaches to societal issues as they intersect with Catholic dogma and canon law - e.g., LGBT and women's equality. Inclusion in Category:Irish Roman Catholics is therefore - per BLPCAT - very much warranted. Likewise for the various Catholic columnists, saints, revolutionaries and rebels - notability derives almost fully from their religion. By contrast, approximately 78% of Irish biographical articles will be about (nominal or practicing) Roman Catholics, but - again, per BLPCAT - it is their footballing prowess, acting ability, writing, or ability to get elected (to use just some examples) that gives them notability, not the "fact" that they were "raised in a Roman Catholic family" (as so many BLPs assert without attribution, and without further mentioning their religion) or that they attend daily mass. A category applied to 78% of all Irish biographies would be worse than useless, and it's why we don't have categories like Category:Brunette or Category:Blue-eyed person. DYK submission[edit]

Hello! I finally submitted a DYK which fits the requirement. Do you have any advice or feedback? Veverve (talk) 05:44, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Veverve: Hello and thanks for your message. The article appears new enough and the hook is certainly intresting! One advice I might have is to expand the text of the article a bit, per WP:DYKRULES, there should be at least 1,500 characters of new text in the new article. Aside from that it looks pretty good. Hi SomeBodyAnyBody05, just go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Basketball/Members and add your name to the list. My post was just a suggestion, there are multiple sports-related WikiProjects and Portals on Wikipedia, although by no means do you have to be a formal member of any of them to edit those subjects. Hello WOSO editors!

What a year to be alive. As usual (but perhaps even moreso since there have been unexpected quarantines), there has been a lot of activity on player, team, league and tournament-related Wikipedia articles with all of the worldwide coverage of women's football / soccer. Great work!

Fall Focus: FA WSL articles

You may have noticed lots of great things going on for the top English league this year: the FA WSL. More (international!) broadcasts, top international player signings, improved media coverage, and increased viewership. Let's keep the momentum brewing, shall we?

Here's a sampling of articles that could use creation, expansion or updating. What will you commit to working on?

Historical Topics
Managers
Teams
Players
Other

See also Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Women's football task force/Initiatives/FA WSL to collaborate and organize with other editors.

Every little bit helps! Thanks for your contributions!

Did you know...

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NFOOTY (which only includes the players in two currently active women's leagues)? Often times there is enough media coverage that meets WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. For more information, see WP:WOSO#Notability and be sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}

Current and upcoming seasons for top-division leagues

Have some new articles in mind or see some that need improvement? Add them to the Open Tasks.

Was an article you worked on nominated for deletion? See:

Want some tips, assistance, or resources from other WOSO editors?
Leave a message on the task force talk page.

Thank you for your continued contributions to articles related to women's football / soccer (WOSO)!

A tag has been placed on Category:Singaporean people of Kashmiri descent requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

Liz Read! November 2020[edit]

I don’t know if I’m doing this right, and I’m sorry if I’m doing this wrong but idk how Wikipedia works. My Request is that you put Lil Peep into the List of dead Rappers since you can edit it. Also I think Eazy-E would deserve an honorable Mention as well. Thank you very much, if you’ll ever read this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.55.225.12 (talk) 02:06, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Rodrigo Maroni. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Rodrigo Maroni), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
