License tagging for Image:Michael Binger.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Michael Binger.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 04:10, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:J.C. Tran.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:J.C. Tran.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Jay32183 23:38, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deeb during heads-up play[edit]

You said in the edit summary that "Deeb was never behind during heads-up play" are you sure or is cardplayer's reports wrong?

From cardplayer.com "At one point during heads-up play with Fitoussi, Deeb was out-chipped about $2 million to $14 million. The final hand of the event was dealt around 5 a.m. Friday. The final table started 2 p.m. Thursday." ▪◦▪≡ЅiREX≡Talk 06:05, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

deleted category[edit]

I just saw you deleted Category:African poker players|Rahme,Raymond from Raymond Rahme and I wanted to ask why. Just because a category doesn´t exist yet is no reason to delete it in the first place... (sorry for posting it on your user page the first time :/) --Elconejo 22:55, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article List of number one ranked players, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Overhauling Event Pages[edit]

Seeing as you are among those who update these things the most, how would you feel about overhauling the WPT, EPT, APPT and LAPT results pages to conform to the final table formats used in the WSOP? It seems that the tables with payouts and other information are far more clean and useful than the lists currently used for results. It would require a little more research to dig back for numbers and such, but I wanted to get some opinions. Stsharp413 (talk) 19:20, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We are good to go. The important information should be X-Day Event, the Dates, Prize Pool, Payouts, and which casino it was in. Also, the buy-ins do differ, so we need to mention that either in the title (which should just be the name of the event) or add another heading above the final table results. Winning hand info might be hard to get for the older events, but we can do without that for now. We can always add that back in later. Stsharp413 (talk) 05:28, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I used the LAPT Season 1 page as a good test. So far, looks fine to me. Check it out here LAPT Season 1 Stsharp413 (talk) 05:53, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WSOP POY[edit]

I see that you added {{World Series of Poker Player of the Year Award Winners}} to Ben Lamb. I do not think this is correct. According to the formula main events offer 500 for 1st and 350 for 2nd. Chris Moorman (486.20) and Shawn Buchanan (505.51) are among the final 44 alive in the 2011 World Series of Poker Europe main event. Both could surpass 759.05 with either a first or a second place finish. Others could surpass him with a first place finish only including Jake Cody (313.13). Do you have a reason to believe that the WSOPE main event does not accrue main event points? Even if it is just a regular event first place will earn 382.5 points for first and 267.75 for second making Moorman and Buchanan still eligible with wins and Buchanan eligible with second regardless.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 21:08, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hellmuth was the only person who could score enough points to force Lamb to win, but many are close enough to force him to have to improve his position to earn the POY. With Moorman and Amir Lehavot running first and second with 40 left, Lamb is probably a current underdog to the field right now.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 22:04, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
With 36 left I think Jake Cody and Amir Lehavot can take first by winning, while Chris Moorman and Shawn Buchanan only need second. I don't know Tony G's real name, but with the 43rd place elimination of Sean Getzwiller, I don't think anyone else remains alive. Probably overstated a bit as a dog to the field, but the six possibilities are as follows (assuming main event points for WSOPE main event) given Lambs point totals 9th-759.05, 8th 779.05, 7th 799.05, 6th 824.05, 5th 849.05, 4th 879.05, 3rd 909.05, 2nd 1009.05, 1st 1159.05:
  1. Jake Cody 1st 813.13 - requires Lamb to finish 6th at November Nine.
  2. Amir Lehavot 1st 830.75 - requires Lamb to finish 5th
  3. Chris Moorman 2nd (and not Buchanan winning) 836.20 - requires Lamb to finish 5th
  4. Shawn Buchanan 2nd (and not Moorman winning) 855.51 - requires Lamb to finish 4th
  5. Chris Moorman 1st 986.20 - requires Lamb to finish 2nd
  6. Shawn Buchanan 1st 1005.51 - requires Lamb to finish 2nd.

However, I don't know Tony G's real name, so there may be other possible hurdles. --TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 22:28, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. if the WSOPE main event is a regular event then there are only three bad outcomes for Lamb.

  1. Shawn Buchanan 2nd (and not Moorman winning) 772.51 - requires Lamb to finish 8th
  2. Chris Moorman 1st 868.70 - requires Lamb to finish 4th
  3. Shawn Buchanan 1st 888.01 - requires Lamb to finish 3rd.

Also, the end of day three sees a lot of danger for Lamb with Moorman 2nd, Lehavot 3rd, Buchanan 4th and Cody 16th with 25 remaining.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 00:35, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I just realized that there may be a lot more players that can catch him because I am not sure if people who ITMed the WSOP main event have points included on the Bluff scoreboard.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 01:04, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Revised situation[edit]

Yes WSOP points are omited even for people already busted out. Thus, the six possibilities are as follows (assuming main event points for WSOPE main event) given Lambs point totals 9th-759.05, 8th 779.05, 7th 799.05, 6th 824.05, 5th 849.05, 4th 879.05, 3rd 909.05, 2nd 1009.05, 1st 1159.05:

  1. Amir Lehavot 1st 830.75 - requires Lamb to finish 5th at November Nine.
  2. Chris Moorman 2nd (and not Buchanan winning) 836.20 - requires Lamb to finish 5th
  3. Jake Cody 1st 838.13 - requires Lamb to finish 5th

  • It's looking better for Lamb with Lehavot-15th, Cody-7th and Buchanan-6th. Just Moorman left to worry about. Moorman is in 2nd with 5 remaining.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 18:46, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Moorman finished 2nd. Not sure whether that means he is ahead and Lamb needs to finish 5th (WSOPE ME gets main event points) or Lamb has clinched (WSOPE ME a regular scale event). [http://www.bluffmagazine.com/wsop-poy/ this page will probably update tomorrow with the correct numbers.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 22:59, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notification[edit]

Compy, it would go a long way toward making a case for yourself if you took the time to comment on this report. Wikipedia is a collaborative editing environment that only functions well if editors are willing to engage in discourse when called for. It's called for now. --Laser brain (talk) 02:53, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm making a second request that you go to AN/I and explain yourself. If you do not, it is likely that you will be blocked from editing until you are willing to be communicative and answer concerns that you are editing against consensus (such as changing nationalities from Scotland to GBR) and introducing incorrect information. --Laser brain (talk) 16:21, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Compy90, it appears that you are continuing to edit elsewhere on Wikipedia while ignoring the concerns expressed at ANI. This strategy may not end well for you. EdJohnston (talk) 18:27, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Compy90, I'm sorry to say that I have had to block you since you continue to edit without addressing or discussing the problems that have been raised with your edits. The block is indefinite, but it may be lifted without my consultation by any administrator who is satisfied that you have adequately addressed and discussed the issues raised at the above-noted AN/I thread. I urge you to join the discussion and be more communicative with other editors. This is a collaborative environment. --Laser brain (talk) 14:17, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

First unblock request[edit]

{{unblock|reason=I really don't see how adding a brief summary of a major golf tournament, information that I obtained mostly from the official USGA and R&A websites, counts as "disruptive editing". If anyone sees a problem with anything I wrote they are free to edit it. Everything I wrote on all the pages is referenced in the two pages I added as external links on each page, so it's not like I was just making stuff up. I read what was written in the AN/I and have perfectly valid reasons for each of the edits I made. It appears like the only factual mistake I made was what I wrote about Jim Thorpe, and I fully acknowledge that mistake. As I have said, everything else I wrote on both the U.S. Open and Open Championship pages is referenced in the sites I added as external links, which I believe are as valid a source as I could get. Unfortunately, I had never heard of the Google News Search when I first started editing these pages, so I did not use that source. If one of those sites I used is shown to contain wrong information, then I can't be held responsible for that. Another thing I noticed was mentioned often in the AN/I is the changing of nationalities. The reason I did that is because the players were listed as GBR on the R&A website, and that is the information I copied down and used (with the exception of Dai Rees, who I noticed someone changed to Wales so I used that from that time on). I never touched the round summaries for the first three rounds, so that is why the information might appear to conflict. It is for these reasons that I am requesting the block be lifted, and I can continue to contribute to Wikipedia's resources on the history of this wonderful game that I love.}}

There's a huge number of problems listed at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#User Compy90. It is hard to consider unblocking you if you're planning to go ahead with more of the same. You remove existing citations and when you add new statements to an article, you don't add new citations to go with them. People have found many factual mistakes in what you've added. There is no evidence that you are willing to go point-by-point through problems that are drawn to your attention. For Wikipedia, you are a net liability because people have to clean up after you. In the year 2012 you have never left a comment on an article talk page. EdJohnston (talk) 03:12, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Second unblock request[edit]

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I didn't remove existing citations, almost all of the pages had none to begin with. For every page I referenced the two sources where I received all of my information, you could easily check my work against those two sources if you wish and I think I will come out looking pretty good. I don't know how I am a net liability to Wikipedia, I've had an account for 7 years and made over 3,000 edits before I touched any of these golf pages, with nobody reporting any problem with anything I had ever written. If the main problem is that I didn't include citations within the article, I admit I did not because I added the references at the end of the page. I will do so in the future if that is required.

Decline reason:

One open request at a time, please. — Daniel Case (talk) 17:46, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I've left a note at User_talk:WilliamJE#Compy90 to see if William will come here to discuss with you directly. He is the golf editor who opened the ANI thread about you. EdJohnston (talk) 04:04, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Compy90, you say "I didn't remove existing citations", but at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents, in the subsection headed "Removal of inline citations", there is a list of five edits of yours, every one of which involves removing one or more citations. Have you actually read the section about you at Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents? If not, then I suggest you do so, and if you have then I suggest that you try to address the issues raised there. If you ignore many of the issues raised, and deny others which anyone can check and find to be valid, then you will not be encouraging any administrator to unblock you. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:12, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Compy just as an FYI, Syrex98 asked me to take a look at what is going on here due to our past interactions on the Poker articles and how valuable you've been during the WSOP season which is about to begin. Unfortunately, I don't think I can unblock (even if I thought it was appropriate I couldn't because of WP:INVOLVE). You've been blocked for one reason, you refused to discuss the issue despite repeated attempts/warnings to get a response. From my experience with you, that is atypical behavior. But before anybody is going to unblock, you have to agree to discuss the issues and see if you and the people who raised the ANI report can work out the details. (Elsewise, the person levelling the complaint's accusations are taken at face value.) I hope you get this cleared up, the WSOP is just around the corner.---Balloonman Poppa Balloon 15:40, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Compy90 (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

Ok, I'll address each of the issues in the Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. I left in the quote about the golf course in the 1970 U.S. Open, which is referenced in the two sources I added. I removed the mention of Tom Watson in 1975 because he wasn't mentioned in my sources and didn't fit in the narrative I was writing, but that reference has been put back and I am okay with that. For the course location, I always used the town that the USGA Championship Database used, and when that proved to be a disambiguation notice I went back and changed it. The edit from 1986 appears simply to be a mistake on my part, miscounting the golfers listed on the USGA Championship Database. Again, the 1994 edit was simply a typo on my part, one I didn't catch when reviewing my work (I'm only human). Two mistakes in over 100 years of edits isn't that bad. Now for the content mistakes, I already admitted I made an error on the Jim Thorpe information. For the information about Ben Hogan in 1960, the USGA Championship Database says this: "Ben Hogan, hoping for an unprecedented fifth Open title, hit all 18 greens in regulation of his morning round to shoot 69 to get within three of the lead." I wrote that he was within three shots of the lead in my edit based on this information. It never says that he tied for the lead, so I was unaware that he did as this was one of two sources I used. Now for the Open Championship edits, again, as in the U.S. Open edits, I included the R&A website and the About.com golf section as references at the bottom of the page, and it is from those two sources that I obtained all of my information. For the course par changes, I used the information contained on the R&A website in the course descriptions, as well as from future tournaments held on the same course where the score was included on Wikipedia. Since the tournament summaries I used didn't mention the par, unlike for the U.S. Open, this was the only method I could think of to get correct information. The previous information doesn't cite any source either, so it is uncertain if I was right or not. As for the nationalities, I already mentioned that I used the information contained on the R&A website for that, which lists the golfers as GBR. I hope this summary clears up a little of my methodology.

Accept reason:

You seem willing to communicate and edit constructively, so please don't take advantage of this. Best of luck in your future editing endeavours! :) Keilana|Parlez ici 05:32, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hopefully I am posting in the right spot. I'm the editor who brought this issue to ANI.
I didn't want this editor blocked but only went to the board to get him to change his ways and explain himself. Since the get go I felt he was knowledgeable about golf but mistake prone. These golf articles needed fleshing out. Before going to ANI I had made about 6 attempts to communicate with Compy90 about my concerns only to be ignored or told blanketly that he believed he was right.
That's past and now for the present. He's admitted to some sloppiness and I think this is a lesson about what needs to be done so these articles can be quality work. I'm willing to work with Compy90,(I go through golf articles all the time looking for mistakes) show him the tricks I have for finding reliable sources(golf.com is a private website. It's information is pretty good to very good but the content they have comes from somewhere else and doesn't originate there.) Google News Archive and Sports Illustrated are very good ones.(Compy90 used the later when him and I had a dispute a fact over the 77 Open.[2] So he has shown what can be done.) The tour websites are better than golf.com, the tournament websites generally even better. All websites have mistakes(I like Google News archive or SI because the articles there are written up at the time they happened. Mistaken info doesn't happen as much) if Compy90 copied from any website and I find some fact in error, I'll fix it and WP:AGF and drop him a heads up at the same time.
  • What I ask is he inline citation where he gets the info so I know what to check.
  • Use reliable sources, Google news archive, SI, and the the others, like I suggest above.
  • Use any working(dead links can be removed) inline citations that are already in the article. They're a good source for information.
  • If he has questions about some facts, all he need do is drop me a message on my talk page. I'm in here daily and I get email notifications too. He can count on me being back to him very quickly.
  • Not to change golfers nationalities unless the tournament article is in conflict with the player's WP article. He can contact me if he has questions.
To be honest, I think Compy90 can do very good work. He has shown it already. I should only have to do very minor tweaks(or even none at all) to his work if he follows my suggestions above.
Just a parting joke. We're having a Captain Kirk/Nomad moment when Compy90 wrote 'Two mistakes in over 100 years of edits'. Now its three but no sterilization will take place.(End of joke) I made errors too in this post. That's the reason I'm fixing it 90 minutes later.
I got to get out of here and do non-WP stuff. So I'll check back this evening or tomorrow morning Florida time....William

I've made a request at WP:AN to have this reviewed by another admin. I think based upon the above and the comments of the original blocker, your block should have been lifted already. But I can't do it because of our edit history; I am definitely biased in your favor. 2012 World Series of Poker[edit]

Hello,

I would like to know why you reverted my edit about the 2012 World Series of Poker.

Thank you!

TheMillionRabbit (talk) 21:49, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It was a meaningless section. What was so special about that tournament that it needed its own section? You might has well have created a section for every tournament, which of course is ridiculous.

Thank you for your answer!TheMillionRabbit (talk) 02:26, 1 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Good mornings from a knackered Brit sitting in an airport! I'm going to be spending the next ~24 hours or so flying to America and I'm not sure at what point after that I'll be able to get ahold of the Internet again. May I request for you to update Template:2010s WSOP Bracelet Winners template for me? I'd anticipate it'd just be for the winners of the two current tourneys. An article you recently created, European Poker Tour season 15 results, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. New poker player pages[edit]

Hey Compy90! You seem to be good at creating poker player articles. There seems to me to be some very significant players that are probably due their own article - I wonder if you would agree with the following?

Are you willing to create some/all of these pages yourself perhaps? I also have observed recently that a lot of the stats on player articles are now out-of-date - it is understandably very difficult to keep stats about tour wins/final tables/money finishes accurate, but it's a shame - I wonder what the solution might be? Thanks! Officially Mr X (talk) 15:19, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(by talk reader) @Officially Mr X: You seem to suffer a misunderstanding of what this encyclopedia is, based upon your statement above where you claim "some very significant players that are probably due their own article". No one is "due" anything. Wikipedia is not your website to webhost content about your niche hobby. The community at large has turned against the various subject-specific notability guidelines as they typically only allow for general notability. Nonsense accomplishments like WSOP bracelets hold no weight here. That you, an experienced editor, are here asking someone else to write your vanity content is wrong-headed. I think the solution is that you leave Wikipedia and join a different wiki. Chris Troutman (talk) 15:31, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, why so rude for my good-faith suggestion? What are the criteria of notability for poker players then? Apparently it is not number of bracelets, despite that being a very highly regarded metric within the poker community. It then begs the question as to why so many poker players have articles on here even if they have no bracelets or other major wins to their name - what notability thresholds did they reach? Officially Mr X (talk) 15:38, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am not your kindergarten teacher here to coddle you, so please refrain from describing my rebuke of you as rudeness. Although WikiProject Poker has its own opinion on notability, the editing community writ large has been rejecting the criteria used to protect articles written by fans like you since the early days. While the many horse fans have become admins to keep WP:NRODEO alive, the incels on this project lost Wikipedia:PORNBIO while the military enthusiasts lost WP:SOLDIER. While I understand each community likes their articles about train stations, corporate executives, or TV shows, Wikipedia tends not to want to presume notability and prefers a preponderance of sources per WP:GNG. Please try to see this from outside your own tinted view. Find WP:SIGCOV or find a different wiki. Your fellow editors have no solidarity with you. Chris Troutman (talk) 16:58, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Chill please, you are acting very uptight right now. My interests on this site extend way beyond poker - it is not my agenda to create lots of poker player articles, and personally I have created exactly zero of them! I simply hoped that you might have some insight into the criteria for a poker player being worthy of an article, but it seems like some people have one opinion and some people have another, so basically I am none the wiser. GGPoker draft review[edit]

Hello Compy90 - I submitted a draft article about GGPoker via Articles for Creation a while ago. It was declined, but it has since been edited and I'm hoping to get some feedback to ensure that it meets Wikipedia's standards, even if that's pointing out something lacking. Any feedback at all would be appreciated.Full disclosure, I'm employed by NSUSLab, GGPoker's platform developer, so I have a financial conflict of interest, which is why I submitted the article via AfC. Thanks! Chris H (GGPoker) (talk) 07:16, 16 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
