How to look at a ticket?

I want to look at, or at least ask to look at, ticket #2011063010011597, as I researched the entity in question (an image) and looks kind of unlikely. People do make mistakes I guess. I know the ticket people are busy, but even so.

But the link for the ticket number takes me here, home page for the Volunteer Response Team. But to go further it wants a username, a password, and a 2nd authentication method. It doesn't take my regular Wikixxxx password, and even if it did I don't have a second factor set up. I get that we want special security for this, but there must be some way to review a ticket, or a partly-censored version of it, or ask to at least? Herostratus (talk) 01:01, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

My understanding is that you need to be a member of Wikipedia:Volunteer_Response_Team to look at tickets, because tickets can hold non-public information. I don't think there is any access for non-members. RudolfRed (talk) 01:23, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Herostratus You should probably contact the VRT directly by email to [email protected], with the ticket number and your concerns. The VRT can be used to handle email reports of copyright violations. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:54, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thank you. I thought a read somewhere that "trusted" editors could view, we'll see. Maybe a volunteer can look at it and without giving info tell me how the ticket is OK, cos, for reasons, I'm dubious, and it's kind of important. I hate to bother them, but... Anyway if I can't, I can't, and fine. Thank you for the help! Herostratus (talk) 22:35, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Einstein's Rest Energy

Rest energy is a type of energy given by Einstein's equation E=MC^2.

    Why isn't it listed at this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Forms_of_energy  ?? 96.227.223.203 (talk) 01:42, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Because Rest Energy is only a section of a larger article and categories contain articles and not sections of articles. RudolfRed (talk) 01:46, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You could, I suppose, add the category to the redirect page. Clarityfiend (talk) 12:43, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have corrected some data under the heading of the 100 largest US cities by crime rate

For example, the only city listed under the state of Oregon was Astoria, a small town on the Oregon coast. Portland was not listed, although the population and crime data align well with that of Portland. There were about 10 such instances in which the largest cities in various states were missing and replaced by smaller cities that do not have anywhere near the population in the table. One of your editors (MaterialsScientist) is quite dogmatic ... he erased my edits simply because I did not provide proper documentation, even though my edits are correct. I am a big supporter of Wikipedia and supply many edits and have made generous monetary contributions to Wikipedia. This upsets me and undermines my faith in Wikipedia as a source of correct data. 177.226.144.150 (talk) 03:43, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that the article was vandalized on 17 August in this edit by an IP editor who replaced a number of names of large cities in that article with the names of other cities. @Materialscientist seems to have incorrectly assumed that you were replacing city names incorrectly when you were in fact correcting previous vandalism. At this point you should send Materialscientist a message on their talk page (here) or add a note to the article talk page (here) pointing this out. It would also be better to simply revert the 17 Aug vandalism rather than manually correcting each entry, to make sure that none are missed, but either way is fine as long as they are all corrected. Are the old stuff still available from 2016 and 2017?

I joined Wikipedia back in 2016, and had made some setting changes that I liked. However, as I got busy in life I came here less and less often. Just recently I realized a lot has changed not just in the layout, but in my toolbar on the top right of the page.

First, I want to know if I can get the previous layout of Wikipedia via settings. When I say previous layout I am reffering to the layout I mean the layout where, the Table of Contents was in the form of a gray box in the article page, when tools where on the left side of the page, and the thing on the top view was not on always display and one had to scroll to top to search again. Is there a setting for that legacy layout?

Second, I remember I had a few Beta things enabled, which I do not see anymore. I do not exactly remember what used to be enabled, I only remember I did have something enabled in the past and now nothing there shows enabled.

Third, I have noticed that some pages no longer allow visual editor, instead opting for source style editor. Aceing_Winter_Snows_Harsh_Cold (talk) 03:49, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    @aceing winter snows harsh cold:
    1. there should be a "switch to old look" link at the left sidebar.
    2. yes, some beta feautres are no longer in beta.
    3. that shouldn't be new: it is disabled on all talk pages, templates, and the wikipedia namespace.
    ltbdl (talk) 04:06, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What happened to those beta features specifically? Is there any way to use them still? Is there a list of them? Did the switch for the new look issue. Aceing_Winter_Snows_Harsh_Cold (talk) 04:13, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Aceing Winter Snows Harsh Cold: Software release life cycle#Beta is not meant to be permanent. Some of MediaWiki's beta features are abandoned, some become a default or opt-in feature in the main software, possibly with modifications since the beta phase, some remain in beta for years. I don't think there is a history of what has been on the Beta tab at which times but you can find mention of some old Beta features at mw:Beta Features/About and the page history of mw:Help:Preferences. I want to create a page for my company

I want to create a page for my company. Can anyone help me to get approval for this. Also I want to know about what are the details I need to provide for this? Williamisabellajones (talk) 11:26, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There are no pages for companies on Wikipedia, we have articles on notable companies and they are very rarely written by anyone who is involved or works with the company. Theroadislong (talk) 11:32, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Williamisabellajones I know nothing about your company, but on Wikipedia, existing is not enough. There must be independent (of you and your company) reliable sources (WP:RS) to base such an article on. Some initial reading: WP:NORG, WP:BACKWARD and WP:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:36, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Possible copyvio

Béla Magyari has suspicious "references" that look like "[3]", which suggests they were copied from somewhere else, but I can't find anything that resembles the text. What should I do? Clarityfiend (talk) 12:41, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Clarityfiend: I think this text has been translated from the Hungarian version of the article. What to do? Not sure! A Hungarian-speaker might be able to verify and copy in the missing references. A {{Translated page}} notice on the talk page could give attribution. -- John of Reading (talk) 12:52, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Clarityfiend, it looks like an uncredited translation of hu:Magyari Béla (űrhajós). You could check, add credit via an edit summary, see Help:Translation and warn the editor concerned. TSventon (talk) 12:53, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

When is "abortion controversy" anything encyclopedic?

You regularly beg for funds, but do not patrol the contend editors put up on the pages. I was researching the Danube river and its tributaries at Passau Bavaria today and saw two paragraphs where someone was arguing that abortion was not available in Passau. This is totally out of bounds in an encyclopedia and should be stricken here.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passau 108.167.28.212 (talk) 14:01, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed that section as undue weight. Thanks for catching that 108.167.28.212. The Night Watch (talk) 14:06, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Editor: we have over 7,000 edits every hour and rely completely on volunteers to patrol new edits. Not every piece of false information, vandalism, or text contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia can be caught.
I will also note that it is the Wikimedia Foundation that solicits donations, not the volunteers who do the editing. Qcne (talk) 16:30, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, for the record, I bet if you asked the average person who responds to the Help desk whether they want you to donate to the Wikimedia Foundation, they'd say "no". casualdejekyll 00:12, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Since we're on record now, as a distinctly non-average person, I don't have any issue with people donating to the WMF. The community is divided on the subject, and I'm not prepared to estimate the median. Folly Mox (talk) 06:05, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The interesting positions seem to divide between 1) "The WMF received a lot of donations in the past, so should never receive anymore going forward" and 2) "Even currently financially solvent organizations with lots of reserve cash need to maintain steady forms of income even in times of financial well-being" which is an interesting dichotomy. In general, people should feel free to give to WMF without being assaulted by people who hold personal beefs with the WMF, and use that beef to actively (but subtly) discourage other people from donating. --Jayron32 13:20, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think the prevailing thought is that editors here don't really care if you donate or not. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 13:24, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not the ones that write responses to people who ask how to donate; the second or third response to such questions is invariably someone trying to actively discourage people from doing so. While I broadly agree with you (most editors don't care one way or the other, in terms of total population), in terms of responses people receive here at the help desk, nearly all earnest questions about how to donate are met with someone with an axe to grind trying to steer people away from doing so. --Jayron32 16:46, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I seem to have caused a stir with my off-handed comment. I was not trying to sway anyone to donate or not- just clarifying because the OP said "you regularly beg for funds". Qcne (talk) 16:48, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

We have been seeing "Graphs are temporarily unavailable due to technical issues" across pages that use this template since the updates over at mediawiki. How to create organization

    s DELTANO (talk) 15:59, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This help desk is for questions about how to use or edit Wikipedia only. AndyTheGrump (talk) 16:04, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you mean "How do I create a Wikipedia article about an organization?", the answer is that in most cases you don't.
If you can show that the organization meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability (which are almost entirely about what people unconnected with the organization have published about it, and hardly at all about what the organization is, does, says, or wants to say), then there could be an article about it: if you cannot find these sources, you'll know that no article on the subject will be accepted, and not to spend any more time on it.
If you can find the sources, and wish to embark on the difficult task of writing an article about it, please read WP:YFA, and WP:BACKWARDS. If you have any connection with the organization, then you must read WP:COI. You are also advised to read WP:PROUD. ColinFine (talk) 20:36, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Potential Error in Wikipedia Library Access

Hello hello! Upon making my first edit in a long while, (definitely longer than a week), I seem to have been instantly given a congratulations message about my "eligibility for the Wikipedia Library". This appears (to me) to be an error, though? Upon looking into the qualifications, it seems that one needs 10+ edits within the last week to be eligible, whereas I've only made 3 as soon as I post this. I'm not sure if this is a bug? I've successfully logged in and read the related articles, but I haven't been able to find much on this criteria, so further information would be appreciated. Utopes (talk / cont) 21:16, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I recommend contacting the Wikipedia Library people directly at https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/contact/ . Note the explanation of eligibility that I saw was 10 edits in the last *month*, but you don't qualify for *that* either.Naraht (talk) 21:26, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org says 10+ edits in the last month but I haven't found this requirement in the code. 500+ edits and 6+ months editing are there. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:50, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Meant to say month, but yeah both of those did not apply (it could have said year and still not apply lol). It does seem to be an instance where the text says one thing yet the code does another; not really sure what can be done about it besides bring it to attention. It should be a non-issue going forward because I now have 10 and will likely be utilizing the Library in the future, but this seems to be something of a very minor edge case that not many people fall into in terms of which criteria are actually accounted for. Utopes (talk / cont) 03:00, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Code and documentation will of course always match (Snark). I'd recommend sending something using the contact page above.Naraht (talk) 14:21, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Utopes Rather than making a private contact with the library, you could use their Talk Page at WT:The Wikipedia Library, so that others would see the information too. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:25, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Or the "command" key (the one conventionally marked ⌘) and the F key if your computer is from Apple. Also, browsers for phones usually have a "search within page" menu option. -- Hoary (talk) 01:43, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Reporting malicious editor

Hi there. How do I report a malicious editor on my Wiki profile? Someone/s keep going in and removing current, cited information and restructuring the profile as a smear.

    AgilityQueen (talk) 02:30, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

AgilityQueen, welcome to this encyclopedia. If you want to call an encyclopedia article a "profile", you are free to do so; but if you are using "profile" to suggest something akin to what one might find at LinkedIn, you've got the wrong idea. You seem to be saying that you are Cylvia Hayes. If you are indeed her, then you have a conflict of interest. Please read and digest WP:COI and make any suggestion for improving the article at the foot of Talk:Cylvia Hayes. -- Hoary (talk) 02:47, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And since I am not the subject of the article then how do I report malicious editing to a Wikipedia article? I am a new editor and know of several articles that clearly include negative and skewed information. AgilityQueen (talk) 03:00, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@AgilityQueen: Your edits were reverted because their tone is completely unsuitable for an encyclopedia, and they appear to be promotional, especially when you add external links into the body of the article. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 03:09, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I am now understanding the external links piece. I would like to know why updated information with current developments, cited, with no external links were also deleted. AgilityQueen (talk) 03:18, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
AgilityQueen, as you say you aren't the subject of the article, perhaps you'd explain what you meant above by the "my" within "my Wiki profile". ¶ You ask above about "malicious editing to a Wikipedia article" and the inclusion of "negative and skewed information". I'll take "negative information" about somebody to mean information about somebody that helps create an unfavorable impression of that person. If this information faithfully summarizes what's said in reliable sources, then it normally belongs in the article that this person has for other reasons. If what's said in the article exaggerates or distorts the sources cited for it, then the summary should be rewritten or cut. If the article either concentrates unduly on the negative or whitewashes it, then there's a problem of lack of neutrality; you can bring this up at WP:NPOVN. As the subject is alive, the normal place to bring up major problems is WP:BLPN. Avoid any attempt to discuss a problem with an article at more than one place at one time: if you start a discussion about this article at either WP:NPOVN or WP:BLPN, please say here that you have done so. -- Hoary (talk) 04:54, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
AgilityQueen, I see that with this edit you removed several paragraphs of well-referenced content from Cylvia Hayes, making it over 2000 characters shorter, but gave the edit summary "added citation and current update". Please be aware that all your contributions to Wikipedia are preserved for ever, and can be read by anyone, including journalists. Maproom (talk) 08:04, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Editing NCYC page

Re. National Collection of Yeast Cultures - Wikipedia

Hello, I have prepared an updated version for this page to reflect the accurate changes made, and have approval from an approved representative of NCYC to display their logo on their wikipedia page. Could you please provide me with the link that includes the form I will need to send to the NCYC approved representative to confirm in writing that I can use their logo on their wikipedia page? I am not a paid employee of the NCYC. Thank you. Chrisqibextra (talk) 11:56, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Chrisqibextra: First, National Collection of Yeast Cultures is Wikipedia's article about the National Collection of Yeast Cultures, and not in any way "their Wikipedia page". Articles are not owned by their subjects. As for the logo, please see WP:DONATEIMAGE. "Permission for Use in Wikipedia", while ... lets call it noble... is irrelevant. The english Wikipedia only accepts media files for which one of the following holds true for the file in question:
I do not know wether you also want to make text changes, but if so, I would like to emphasize what several admins have written at User talk:Chrisqibextra#March 2023 some 5 months ago and would like to add that Wikipedia is not interested in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. Victor Schmidt (talk) 12:31, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Fwiw, I added a logo. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:10, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Chrisqibextra, National Collection of Yeast Cultures is indeed Wikipedia's article about the collection; and it is of course the collection's Wikipedia page, just as, say, Pythagoras is Pythagoras's page. I hardly need point out that Pythagoras, being dead, owns nothing. To talk of the NCYC's Wikipedia page shouldn't, needn't, and probably doesn't imply any kind of ownership. Of course the NCYC doesn't own its Wikipedia page, but we shouldn't feel under any obligation to adhere to fictions about the meanings of the genitive case. -- Hoary (talk) 06:15, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Merging articles

Can you please advise whether these two articles are suitable for merging?

    Aine Davis & Amal el-Wahabi

Davis is scheduled to go on trial for terrorism offences, so there'll be more coverage of him to come. El-Wahabi is his wife & was convicted/jailed for funding terrorism in 2014. I don't think there's enough coverage of her to merit a standalone article. I don't believe the merge would be controversial, neither article has many watchers & the original editor of both articles (User:Geo Swan) is no longer around to ask. I've never attempted a merge before so I thought I'd better check first. 😅 Thank you. DSQ (talk) 12:17, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As much as I hate the idea of merging a woman's biography into that of her husband's, I can't disagree that el-Wahabi certainly feels very WP:BLP1E, and would probably make more sense as a redirect to a section of Davis's article (I think it's MOS to bold her name in the section for people who arrive there from the redirect).
Hopefully any merger will negate the need for the opening sentence-paragraph at Amal el-Wahabi, which ends ... for her husband, Aine Lesley Davis in her clothing, which makes it sound like Aine is only Amal's husband when he's wearing her clothing, like a secret identity (and anyway wouldn't that make it their shared clothing?) Folly Mox (talk) 14:04, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
😂 I didn't even notice the opening sentence! Nearly spat my tea.... Yeah, I'll get rid of that. She was the first British woman to be convicted for terrorism offences relating to Syria. But still, there's been no cverage of Amal since 2014, not that I can find anyway. Thank you very much for your help Folly Mox, appreciate it. I'll tackle that this evening & if I break something I'll be back. --DSQ (talk) 14:23, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    My edit for myobacterium marinum

Question for the help desk: I suffered with myobacterium marinum for years and finally found a solution for my sore that would not heal. I posted it to the site and it was there for years. There was also another treatment posted which I found reassuring. When I checked the site recently both were gone. I rewrote my treatment but have not seen it posted and wonder if it will be and why the two treatment recommendations were removed? Thanks. I'm not sure how this works.....will I see an answer somewhere at some point? Artlove7 (talk) 19:35, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia has much stricter sourcing requirements when editing about medical treatments, mostly because Wikipedia cannot practice medicine. Please see WP:MEDRS. Your personal account is unfortunately not acceptable as article content, especially for a medical matter. This isn't like social media where people can share what works for them- it must be published somewhere that can be verified, like a medical journal. 331dot (talk) 19:56, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Artlove7, welcome to the helpdesk. In short, here [1] you are basically using a WP-article as your blog, telling a personal story. You can't. A WP-article on any subject is supposed to be a summary of published WP:RS, and when the topic is human health, we demand really high-quality sources, more on that at WP:MEDRS.
So, for something like this, you have to find another forum than Wikipedia. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:56, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Artlove7 Your August 12 edit was reverted as you did not cite a reliable medical source. Personal anecdotes are original research, which we don't allow.
That said, I notice your anecdote was about using hot compresses to treat the infection. A couple years ago it came to our attention that large portions of the article were copied from a few different sources, in violation of our copyright policy. The offending history was hidden and the article re-written. I notice that the hidden history does contain mention of using hot compresses to treat the infection, so it is likely that is when your information was removed. See here for discussion about the copyright problems.
If you can find a reliable medical source about using heat to treat the infection, you can add that information and cite the source, just make sure that (a) you don't copy any one else's text, and (b) it is not inserted in the form of a personal anecdote. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 19:57, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Reviewed or rejected?

The page I submitted for Mark Winston Griffith says it hasn't been reviewed, but then when I googled him with "wikipedia" I found a Wikitia page identical to the one I submitted.

There are many people far less well-known than this subject who have pages on Wikipedia. How might I improve the chances of this being accepted—and has it been rejected or still awaiting review?

It is more restrictive than many other places, so be aware that Wikipedia's policy is what it is, and should be followed even if other organizations have different fair use policies. I hope Edward Francis Rorke can be added to the list of survivors of the Bataan Death March. Ed was a good friend of my father who survived as a POW in Tokyo at the Palace and later moved to the Omori camp the last few weeks of the war. Ed was according to the National Archives held at the Osaka Main Camp Chikko Osaka 34-135. Ed has no remaining family, his brother Hayden Rorke of "I Dream of Jeannie" had no children. We were Ed's family in Casper, WY for many years. Ed and my father would talk about their war experiences which we were not allowed to hear. Make redirect page an article

Long ago when I first joined Wikipida I made a page called the Luxembourg Rebellions wich was supposed to be a artical talking about the riots and rebellions, this never happened because, I don’t know why but I ended up redirecting it for a new article about the rebellion. Can I go back make the article? LuxembourgLover (talk) 21:07, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you can, provided you can show that the subject meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability.
There are two ways to go about this. If you are confident that you can at the first attempt make an article which will be minimally acceptable, you can do it by editing the redirect page into an article.
Generally I would suggest instead, that you create a draft, in Draft:Luxembourg rebellions. You can work on this at your leisure and it is unlikely anybody will interfere with it (unless it is a copyright violation or an attack page, or you leave it untouched for six months). When you think it is ready, you have another choice: you can either add {{subst:submit}} to the top, asking for it to be reviewed (which might take months, but will give you feedback), or you can submit a technical move request to ask for somebody to move it to mainspace (most of us do not have permissions to move a draft over a redirect). Citing a source within another source

How should I cite a letter printed as an appendix to a book? The authors are different. The book is straightforward except that it is a Gutenberg e-book so there is no way to include a page number. Unhelpfully, the title of the appendix is “Appendix” and it includes material in addition to the letter. Readers will seek the letter via the name of the letter’s writer. So I had in mind to cite it separately, perhaps using CITE REPORT (there not being a template for letters). Humphrey Tribble (talk) 05:09, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Humphrey Tribble, if John Doe wrote (most of) the book but Joe Bloggs wrote the appendix, then within Template:Cite book, first=John | last=Doe | contributor-first=Joe | contributor-last=Bloggs | title=The Anatomy of Despondency | contribution=Appendix. (NB I am no expert in the use of the Cite template(s).) -- Hoary (talk) 08:08, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

List of awards and honours received by Angela Merkel

The article states that her chancellorship was exceeded in length only by Helmut Kohl. This is actually ambigious as it is only true for post war Germany. If you consider ALL German chancellors, Bismarck comes first with 19 years as chancellor (1871-1890). This article needs to be clear on whether only post war chancellorships or all chancellorships since the founding of Germany in 1871 are being considered. 159.15.129.65 (talk) 10:08, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The title of article I want to create (Arishfa Khan) is blacklisted from a long time. It was blacklisted because of promotional articles by sockpuppets (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Arshifakhan61). Now that master is inactive (except one recent). Anyway, I created its draft in my userspace(see User:Parnaval/Draft_AK138). I think the person passes notability criteria, but article wasn't created because of promotional tone. Now, I request admins to unsalt that title and move my draft there. -- Parnaval (talk) 13:06, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

While an admin needs to remove the salting, you are free to submit it for a review and have a reviewer(which can be any user) accept the draft for placement in the encyclopedia, who will then ask for the salting to be removed. I see much promotional language in the draft("bagged her first role") and I don't see on the surface how she passes WP:BIO or WP:NACTOR. 331dot (talk) 13:09, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Parnaval Your first citation is to an interview with Khan, so is not independent. You need to demonstrate notability by mainly using sources that meet these criteria. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:38, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The first is interview, but all others are independent. She has lot of following on social media (30m on instagram), so this is indication that she is notable. Also, she has done roles in multiple notable TV shows so does fulfill WP:NACTOR. I tried my best to keep out promotional tone, but didn't realise that bagged is promotional. I will remove it and then submit for review. -- Parnaval (talk) 16:01, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
She has lot of following on social media (30m on instagram), so this is indication that she is notable.

I understand that notability comes from coverage in reliable sources. but, that guideline also says subjects which have gained sufficiently significant attention by the world at large and over a period of time, and having large social media following is also a metric for that. Anyway, the draft got rejected and I don't have much hope that I can improve it. -- Parnaval (talk) 19:52, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

When primary topic redirect promotes a secondary topic

On 2020 United States presidential election, there is a redirect notice: "Donald Trump vs. Joe Biden" redirects here. For the Epic Rap Battles of History episode, see Donald Trump vs. Joe Biden (Epic Rap Battles of History). Now, I can certainly understand how a reader searching "Donald Trump vs. Joe Biden" is substantially more likely to be interested in the election than an episode of a Youtube series, so the redirect makes sense. However the vast majority of visitors to the election page landed there by a more conventional search, and we are now promoting to them an extremely niche secondary topic at the extreme top of the page. I would venture to guess the vast majority of visitors to the Rap Battle page get there from curiously clicking from the election article. ~ I guess my question is, is it not worth discussing (vis a vie disambig v. redirect) if we are not giving free advertising to the secondary topic? GreatCaesarsGhost 15:11, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not fully knowledgeable in this topic, but I don't see a problem with the redirect being there. It's helpful for the people who were searching for the Epic Rap Battles episode, and it shouldn't bother people who were just looking for the election. Hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge in this topic than me can help though. Industrial Insect (talk) 18:44, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Writing an autobiography is strongly discouraged. Please read WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY. Cullen328 (talk) 17:47, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    1. Read our notability guideline for biographies very carefully.
    2. Ask yourself if you are 100% sure you meet the requirements you just read.
    3. Forget everything you know about yourself. Pretend you are a complete stranger who has been given the task of writing about someone about whom they know nothing.
    4. Locate 3-5 reliable sources that talk about you in detail.
    5. Make sure those sources are indepdendant, that is, that they were not produced by you, your employees, your "team", your publicity agents, your family members, etc.
    6. At this point you have 3 choices:
      1. Visit requested articles and add yourself and the sources you have found to that black hole in hopes that someone will take an interest in writing the article. There are people who occasionally look through requested articles for something to write about, but it is very backlogged, and things tend to stay there for years.
      2. Attempt to write a draft using only information that can be found in independent reliable sources. When the draft is complete, submit it to articles for creation, who will either accept it or provide some feedback, usually consisting of "this draft needs more citations to reliable sources that provide significant coverage of the topic and are produced independently of the subject of the article."
      3. Realize that (a) you may not be notable by Wikipedia's odd definition of that word and (b) An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing anyway and go find an alternative outlet for telling the world about yourself.
    Good luck. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 18:52, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed! The issue is that you didn't include |title= in the template. See the instructions at Template:Cite web for more information. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 21:02, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Deleted Page Reason Request

    Hello,

This page was deleted https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/?title=Brad_Heller&oldid=1001519365 . This is another view of the page that was deleted https://en.wikipedia-on-ipfs.org/wiki/Brad_Heller . Could you please explain why it was deleted and how to fix it. Thank you very much. SvSerf (talk) 19:57, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@SvSerf, here is the entry in the deletion log: link. It was deleted on 18 January 2022, by Explicit, for the following reason: Expired PROD, concern was: Basically a tribute article for an actor and acting teacher. If all of the unsourced content was removed, this article would barely be a stub so I'm tagging it for proposed deletion. You can read about what a PROD is at WP:PROD. You can ask for the article to be restored - likely to your own personal space, as a draft - at WP:RFUD, but unless you have reliable, independent, secondary sources which cover this person in depth, you probably won't be able to do much toward getting this back in article space. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 20:24, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

plot summary for a film mainly composed of unrelated skits

I am editing the Space Monster Wangmagwi article, and intend to replace the plot summary in its entirety (the current plot summary is ripped word-for-word from the store page for the DVD). The only issue is that I'm unsure of how to summarize the plot, since the movie is more focused on various vignettes than the overarching plotline. I know one would ordinarily cut out any incidental scenes and focus only on the important plot points, but doing that there would be very little to write since most of the film is incidental (in fact, the marketing blurb that's there right now actually covers most of the important plot points, only omitting the very ending). Are there any good examples of plot summaries for other films with a similar style, ie films not really focused on the core plot?

    HumbleSolipsist1 (talk) 00:05, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not familiar with that film (for which, after reading the article, I think I'm thankful?), but what you're describing sounds like an anthology film. I've generated a list of good articles in anthology-film categories here. Or you can peruse Category:Anthology films for (a lot) more examples which haven't gone through a formal quality check. —Cryptic 01:36, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@HumbleSolipsist1: Consider removing the plot section entirely, and describing the film as a collection of skits, similar to how it is done at And_Now_for_Something_Completely_Different as an example. RudolfRed (talk) 01:58, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Best way to add page numbers for citation at different places

I see pages where citations are done in multiple ways. e.g. using templates sfn, sfnp, Reference etc. Is there a standard simple way to cite same source at multiple places with different page numbers? e.g. I have used book citation and then used the "rp" template to add the single or multiple page numbers which would appear as e.g. [1]:23 or [1]:23-25 and I found that very easy to understand. But, I was not sure if there is a better way, or is usage of sfn, sfnp, reference etc. also widely used and suggested option to add citation. Thanks. Asteramellus (talk) 00:58, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There is no best way. There is the way that is consistent with all other references in the article. There are likely camp followers for every referencing style who are quite content to die on their preferred hill. This is why the best way is to use the style already present in the article. If there is a mix, you can attempt to find consensus on the article's talk page or fall back to the first significant contribution and use that style. If you are the first author, you get to choose.

    Why do burgers?

Burgers are commonly put together as some form of meat patty surrounded by cheese and breading, usually called a cob or a bread roll. Why do they not put burgers on the outside and the bread on the inside, you then get your first bite and taste the meat. Much better. Thankyou. 77.44.75.66 (talk) 03:06, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello IP Address. The help desk is about asking question within Wikipedia, and is not a place to spread your opinions about burgers.

    Edit War

Can someone help me with stopping an edit war? The articles on the topic are not helpful to me. Donutholeveronica (talk) 04:51, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Given that every edit you have made has been improperly promoting the same 'forthcoming novel', stopping the edit war will be simple. Stop promoting it. That isn't what Wikipedia is for. AndyTheGrump (talk) 05:03, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Donutholeveronica, I've also seen that you've requested page protection on the article. However, edit warring related incidents will likely be declined. Instead, those should be taken to WP:AN/3.
Also, please note that the user you're arguing with is an admin. I suggest you stop the edit warring before you are blocked. 🛧Layah50♪🛪 ( 話す? 一緒に飛ぼう!) 05:27, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
