There is already a general disambig page for "Charles Wood". Currently the redirect sends anyone searching for "Charles Wood" to a footballer who has never apparently been referred to as "Charles Wood", only as "Charlie Wood". Which confuses matters when there was an FA Cup winner called Charles Wood (footballer, born 1851), who is therefore not going to come up on a search for a footballer called Charles Wood.

It does not seem necessary to redirect people searching for "Charles Wood" to Charlie, when anyone searching for Charlie is going to search for, well, Charlie Wood. I would suggest either a disambig page to cover the two footballers, or even move the 1851-born Charles Wood page to "Charles Wood (footballer)", given he is the only notable footballer habitually called Charles Wood, with a hatnote for Charlie - indeed this only came up as I had noticed that links referring to Charles Wood, which had been red in the past, had gone blue because of the creation of a redirect, but were sending me to the wrong person. The page views suggest that in 2013 there were precious few views (8 per day) for either anyway... In Vitrio (talk) 20:48, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - there are two articles about footballers called 'Charles Wood' and so this rightly redirects to the disambiguation page. The nominator saying it redirects to Charlie Wood (footballer) is simply not correct, they clearly haven' even checked the redirect target before nominating. Potentially misleading redirect. This word is mentioned only in the infobox of the target article, and it seems this word is also used for the names of several species of animal and medical conditions. In addition, from third party search engines, it seems that associating this word with its target may be a WP:FORRED issue of some sort. Not sure what the best path forward is here, but from all these findings, I'm not convinced readers looking up this word are intending to locate the target of this redirect. Similarly, WikiNav for the disambiguation page shows the ABBA is the 4th percentage of outgoing page views (the other song did not even register).
