As noted elsewhere, "quarter-professional" is likely a neologism invented by the redirects' creator, and is unlikely to be useful. Based on the references being used to support a lot of these odd redirects, I am starting to think that the creator has been using Wikipedia for SEO for an online poker site. More unnecessary redirects from overly-specific-but-still-ambiguous disambiguators, all but one targeting the only poker player named Calvin Anderson with a Wikipedia article. Some were mentioned in Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2023 August 2#Calvin Anderson (lawn mower) but no actions were suggested for these. Not mentioned at target. While the redirect has text below the redirect line noting this was a film directed by William Heise, which was release in 1896; we have no mention of this film anywhere on Wikipedia, so it seems this redirect should be deleted unless details of the film are added, at the very least in a sourced filmography section, on William Heise's article. Page move detritus. The creator tried an end-run of AFD by recreating the currently-targeted article at this location and then using a sock to close the discussion, but that copy has been merged back into the target. Delete, not mentioned at target Fram (talk) 14:14, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - in all the different redirect discussions we've been going through over what seems like the last month or more with all the Davids Larson, I'm not sure how nobody noticed that there isn't actually a David Larson listed on the World Series page at all. We have David Larson (disambiguation) but we wouldn't list a "casual" player there. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 14:39, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: The previous discussion was closed by User:The Micronesian-Corsican Revolution, who is the same user as User:TheElvisBelievingBumbleBee, so it was an WP:INVOLVED close. This also means it was an inappropriate use of an alternative account, namely contributing to the same page or discussion with multiple accounts. -- Tavix (talk) 14:47, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Contributing to the same page or discussion is permitted with clearly disclosed multiple accounts. @TheElvisBelievingBumbleBee: please make sure you disclose properly (you haven't), and do not close discussions you have participated in. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 14:58, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay no, never mind. Micronesian has closed several discussions that BumbleBee started or participated in, all in favour of BumbleBee's opinion even if consensus was against the suggestion. I'm undoing all of those closes, and blocks are coming. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 15:08, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: Very much my bad on not noticing that David Larson wasn't at the proposed target at the previous redirect in the comments. I somehow neglected to check that the target proposed actually mentioned the redirect subject, which is my bad. Delete as there is no such David Larson who is a casual poker player, as someone who is a casual poker player, very likely woud not qualify for wikipedia on notability for being a casual poker player, unless there are other extraordinary circumstances. TartarTorte 14:52, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've added David Larson (aria casino player). It should be deleted for the same reasons: neither David Larson nor "aria casino" are mentioned at the target, and I don't see any reason to make a new discussion for this. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 16:58, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • Plus see [2], the term "aria casino player" doesn't seem to be in use anywhere, so very unlikely search term in any case? Fram (talk) 17:05, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Misleading and odd... the target describes him as a "low-stakes" player. I don't know anything about poker, but it seems to me that "low-stakes" and "midstakes" are not synonymous. (NPP action) Edward-Woodrow :) [talk] 00:59, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

We have three different poker player named David Larson. The first set of redirects (quarter-professional; amateur; casual) were listed here after it mistakingly was thought of as one player. Upon the listing, on a request belong the discussion, I then created a set of new redirects (2 redirects + 1 new article (amateur --> WPT winner; casual --> aria casino player) + (David Larson (poker player). As an experiment I concludingly created a third set of redirects (low stakes poker player --> poker player; midstakes poker player --> WPT winner; micro stakes poker player --> 2015 World Series of Poker. • Regarding the adequacy of the existing surname page, The current David Larson article doesn't actually seem to be the clear primary topic, and the name would benefit from disambiguation. I've started an RM. --Paul_012 (talk) 06:38, 10 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Question Can multiple people with the name reasonably be called a "midstakes poker player"? The articles don't make that clear. -- Tavix (talk) 13:47, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: There was a previous RfD I started with similarly confusing named redirects created by the same person here Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2023 August 22#David Larson (casual/amateur/quarter-professional poker player). I'm unsure entirely as to what is happening here because it does seem like as commented by Tavix, that these terms are not widely used, if used much at all. I understand the need to disambiguate between the many different David Larsons who play poker, and I think that these are good faith efforts to disambiguate them, but I am unsure if they are useful if they're not widely used. I think it's possible that sending all redirects to David Larson (disambiguation) would be a solution, but I'm also not sure if having all of these redirects exist and going to the DAB is necessarily the best solution because they were intended to disambiguation specific people. I think that regardless of result, we should probably reconsider the redirects from the linked RfD as well, as they're related, but given two relists, far too late to bundle into this RfD. TartarTorte 14:05, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - I'm leaning delete on all of these now as it seems they will make it unreasonably difficult to locate the intended David Larson - there isn't an appropriate disambiguator which uniquely and unambiguously identifies each one of them. "Professional" seems subective (since all poker players play for money) and "stakes" is a term to describe poker games, not poker players. The "David Larson" titles should just target the disambiguation page, but we don't need several dozen of them. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 14:53, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete and disambiguate - this redirect is nonstandard and evidently won't be useful even to someone with quite detailed knowledge of professional poker, since "micro stakes" seems to be a term invented by the redirect's creator. However, besides the three poker players we also have David Larson and David Larson (athlete), and a disambiguation for these individuals would be more useful than experimenting with redirects. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 19:31, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Restating my delete !vote, as besides my original rationale above, Fram has also pointed out in a different discussion above that there is no David Larson mentioned at the target. I did find a source for "micro stakes", though: according to Upswing Poker, a spammy instructional site, "micro stakes" is the lowest level of stakes in organized poker, usually only found in online games, with stakes up to twenty-five cents. I don't know why we would ever have an article on a micro stakes poker player, nor why anyone would come to Wikipedia looking for information on them. For the other discussions, this website also defines "low", "mid/medium", and "high" stakes. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 14:43, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was speedy close. See WP:RENOM. The previous discussion was relisted, so there was more than a week to air concerns about the suggested retarget. Otherwise, closers are usually receptive if you ask them to back out of their closure and relist if you explain why you feel that'd be productive. On the other hand, immediately renominating is disruptive because it undermines the previous discussion and the consensus therein. -- Tavix (talk) 13:12, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete I doubt anyone will search for this, but I did a bit of digging to figure out where this even came from. A very early revision of the Wikipedia article on Klaipėda used "klaǐpēda" as a "simplified phonetic transcription for Lithuanian" (click link for more), which is a non-standard notation invented by Wikipedia and which has been marked as obsolete, rightfully replaced by IPA. Curiously, the Latin character ǐ is not used in any language of the region, but it reminds me a bit of Cyrillic й, used to represent the glide /j/ (often in diphthongs) instead of и which represents the vowel sound /i/. 98.170.164.88 (talk) 03:52, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
