The phrase of "Oh Man! Oh God!" is mentioned once in this article, and appears with the description that "it was famous for the repetition of this phrase". I find it to be implausible that someone would write all ten sentences to reach this destination. Utopes (talk / cont) 05:56, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: I would have said to delete as this redirect seems implausible and is also unhelpful, but it has regularly been getting pageviews (averaging around 1 per day) for some unknown reason. I would appreciate if someone discovered the reason and whether it makes this redirect worth keeping. InterstellarGamer12321 (talk | contribs) 19:28, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If I had to guess, it's people searching "Oh Man Oh God", since this is the only result in the searchbar. I would assume having Oh Man! Oh God! would work just as well, though I can't say for sure. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 16:32, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per previous discussions. Redirects of trivial quotes are unhelpful to readers. And it's way too long for anyone to plausibly type in the search bar anyway. InfiniteNexus (talk) 01:18, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per the above on being a trivial quote and excessively long (and maybe send this title to WP:DAFT if this gets deleted). Xeroctic (talk) 16:37, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Just silly. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 00:19, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. I'm all for deleting redirects from quotes that are never mentioned, but this is mentioned, and redirects are cheap, and while this is a long quote it doesn't seem absurd that someone might type it out, never mind the question of whether there are any off-wiki backlinks to it. The occasional pageview spikes suggest that something is driving traffic to this redirect for one reason or another. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe|she) 21:49, 16 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, ahrefs pulls no backlinks. SkarmoryAlt (talk) 18:04, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Empirically, it got a spike of usage unrelated to this RfD. Maybe it was posted in a group-chat somewhere. Maybe it was e-mailed around. We don't really need to figure out who's used it and why. Per WP:R#K4 and 5 there is a strong presumption of keeping redirects that people have found useful (which we know is the case) and that are linked elsewhere (which may well have been the case). There are some reasons we still might delete such a redirect, but no strong reasons have been given here. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe|she) 05:19, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. It's an accurate rendition of the line in the film, and likely to be unique given the length. It also gets some level of usage and gets readers to where they want to get to. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 04:23, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep on the condition that we elaborate upon it/source it – the line in the article in which this is mentioned is currently uncited (which is concerning), but some research does in fact prove that this line is quite infamous: Far Out Magazine (an RS) has an entire article on it; Vanyaland (source looks good) mentions it; Know Your Meme (though not an RS per se) has an entry on it; Justin Bozung in Norman Mailer in Context (ISBN 9781108477666) by Cambridge University Press (page 98) says: "The film's Tim Madden experiences a psychological reality in the much lampooned "Oh God, Oh man" sequence - the scene is the apex of Mailer's cinema"; and many more. As for the concerns that this is too long or implausible, compare redirects like Fasten your seatbelts. It's going to be a bumpy night. (6 valid page views) and A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti (8 page views). This does appear to be a valid search term/"copypasta", and having this redirect is good SEO to help people typing this into the search bar to find this film's Wikipedia article.  LunaEatsTuna (💬)— 18:16, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This seems implausible. While tourists and those unfamiliar with the system may definitely search for train routes using the colors depicted on timetables and maps, I can't imagine anyone using the qualifiers in their search queries. People will search for just "Green Line", "Green Line Chicago", or some variant thereof. Nobody would specifically type "Dark Green Line" into the search box, because people don't speak that way either. Regardless of the shade of the color, it's still the same color, especially when referring to the subject by color is technically incorrect anyway. The result of the discussion was retarget to Green Book. The discovery of analogues emoji redirects for Orange Book and Blue Book has swayed !votes in favor of color-coding despite an early lead for keeping this redirect generic. signed, Rosguill talk 14:01, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(WP:BRD) This emoji has the Unicode name "Green Book" (see Emojipedia), so Green Book would be the more precise target. feminist🇭🇰🇺🇦 (talk) 03:25, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to Green book per nom. I don't understand the reason why this is controversial at all. Thryduulf (talk) 04:49, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • KeepThe point is that Green book" is a disambiguation page. Due to the use of this Unicode character in templates, you get a whole new series of troubles. I have no problems with retargetting to "book" again, as it was before colleague Feminist decided to change it to "Green book". To solve the issues with templates, I changed the target to "Green Book (Unicode character)", what is rather factual. That was not appreciated and the redirect was reverted to the original "Book". Why this was followed by a deletion nomination is unclear to me. An issue with toes? Point is that the change to "Green book" was undiscussed. I prefer retargetting to "Green Book (Unicode character)" but I can live with the present target to "Book". The Banner talk 12:55, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is a nomination to retarget not to delete. As neither Green Book (Unicode character) nor Green book (Unicode character) exist, they are unsuitable as redirect targets. I don't understand what "troubles" redirecting a unicode character to a disambiguation you are referring to - such redirects are not uncommon. Thryduulf (talk) 13:01, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Maintenance bots asking for links to disambiguation pages to be fixed (i.e. changed to normal articles) The Banner talk 13:40, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We should always fix bots to deal with the encyclopaedia as it exists, rather than fix the encyclopaedia to make life easier for bots and/or their operators. In this case the disambiguation page is clearly the better target for readers wanting information about what the emoji is/represents, if that upsets a bot then so be it. Thryduulf (talk) 13:48, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But that disambiguation page gives no information about the unicode character. It is effectively a link into nothing. The Banner talk 15:24, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. It's a book that is green, it's not a Green Book (ie: one of the specific titles listed at the disambiguation page). Therefore, book is a related topic for the emoji, but Green Book is not. -- Tavix (talk) 13:08, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak keep per Tavix. Cremastra (talk) 13:19, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Even for such a straightforward one, this illustrates my general frustration with emoji redirects. This is obviously a book, yes, but it's also a green book. It could be a diary. It could be a novel. It could be a ledger. (And hey, from a certain point of view, this is not a book.) But as long as we're going to cater to emoji redirects, this one is pointing where it should. --BDD (talk) 21:58, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Green Book per nom. The emoji is named "Green Book emoji". Enix150 (talk) 03:48, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Tavix. InfiniteNexus (talk) 04:20, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: I would like to mention Orange Book (📙) and Blue Book (📘) and also posit that these redirects could potentially be helpful to colourblind viewers. Enix150 (talk) 12:22, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Those emoji redirect to Orange Book and Blue book respectively. Thryduulf (talk) 12:39, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, for what it's worth, on my browser, the nominated redirect's image also has "Vol 2" stamped on it. And ... the blue book has "Vol 3" stamped on it and the orange book has "Vol 4" stamped on it. What's the deal? Steel1943 (talk) 21:08, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
According to emojipedia it's an "Easter egg (computing)" by Apple, with the red book being vol. 1, all by "John Appleseed" (not to be confused with Johnny Appleseed), which apparently was a pseudonym created by an Apple II developer for use as a placeholder name. Why the specific colour order it doesn't say. Thryduulf (talk) 21:16, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also ... the redirect 📕 exists. To me, that looks like a "red book" with "Vol 1" stamped on it, but Emojipedia calls it "Closed book". Steel1943 (talk) 21:12, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to Killing of Joseph Smith. When you look at the actual evidence, this event in the history of the Mormon church is by far the primary topic for this search term, and it's not an uncommon one either. A hatnote (to a disambiguation page) can be added to link any other notable crimes referred to by this title. Thryduulf (talk) 21:22, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Pointless implicit proliferation of redirects (we should not put in every imagined possible search for everything); that someone would think to enter this particular description but not "pico-" seems too rare to be helpful. —Quondum 01:26, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. If someone is looking for information about the pico SI prefix, it is plausible that they will type "Pico SI prefix". Redirects are cheap, and the potential "Pandora" situation here—comparable redirects for all other SI prefixes—isn't much of a Pandora's box at all. I'm not particularly convinced that any first name should redirect to a person, except for people of exceptional notability compared to the rareness of their name, such as Barack. In recent years we all think of the same man when we think "Donald", but that doesn't overwhelm the legacy of Donald Bradman, Donald Campbell, Donald Rumsfeld and Donald Duck. Naby seems to be quite a common name in West Africa per Naby (disambiguation). However, Google Books gives more results for Eden Naby, a scholar of the Assyrian people. Eden Naby appears to have decades of notability, even if the hoi polloi will recognise a fairly unremarkable footballer more. Google Books also shows "Naby" being used in other contexts as an alternative spelling for "Nabi", a fairly common Arab or Muslim name or title referring to a prophet. My suggestion is to delete this redirect and rename Naby (disambiguation) as purely Naby. The justification appears weak that this word is overwhelmingly likely to refer to Naby Keita. 5.151.105.236 (talk) 21:16, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
