Recommending a retarget from Nazism to Nazi Party.

As of writing, there are 2 other redirects that are of interest and relating to this, which is Nazi (currently targeting to the Nazism ideology), and The Nazis (which targets to the Nazi Party). I agree that for the former two, these are the best options save for maybe making Nazi a disambiguation, but that's beyond the point of this RFC.

Presently, this redirect also targets to the Nazism ideology, however, it's difficult for Nazis plural to be able to refer to the Nazism ideology in common conversation. If I say "Nazis" in a discussion, I'm most frequently referring to either the regime/party/Third Reich, or neo-Nazi movements/participants. Based on this, I don't believe that "Nazis" plural as a redirect should target to the ideology but rather the party, as modern proponents of the ideology and party are designated as "neo-Nazis" rather than "Nazis" on WP. I believe a reader looking for information on Neo-Nazism would type neo-Nazism or related terms in the search box. A person typing "Nazis" would expect to find the regime, not the ideology. InvadingInvader (userpage, talk) 23:20, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep as is - I'm afraid I have to disagree. There was not one Nazi Party (there was one in Austria as well) and insofar as "Nazi" is also colloquially used to refer to neo-Nazis and others who share the Nazi's ideas, the ideology article gives a better sense of what they stand for then the Party article does, since it's primarily historical. Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:34, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep I agree with Beyond my Ken here. The average reader might not necessarily type in "neo-Nazis" for contemporary adherents of the ideology. (Indeed, the term "neo-Nazis" doesn't seem to be in as common parlance as one might think based on my experience). Since the current target is broader in scope, it seems like a better target to me. - Presidentman talk · contribs (Talkback) 01:22, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. The singular Nazi redirects to Nazism and I don't think there is a good argument to be made for targeting each to different articles. Mdewman6 (talk) 02:42, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per above. Came due to the RfC request, but followed the breadcrumbs here. GenQuest "scribble" 15:01, 16 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It is unclear what this redirect is meant to refer. The target article does state that "social network analysis" is used in political science, but political science is just of many subjects mentioned in that sentence, and "Social network analysis" does not mean "Network" (the first word of the nominated redirect). Steel1943 (talk) 22:39, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Retarget to Policy network analysis, which is an obvious target candidate from a google search. (Role of networks in electoral behavior may also be a good fit, though it seems like an obscure-er subtopic.) Duckmather (talk) 00:17, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Since these redirects' current target, Social networking service, is about a web site or platform where a social network can be used, whereas the article Social network is about the concept and the act and structure of social networking ... I'm thinking all of these should target Social network (if they don't already). Steel1943 (talk) 20:59, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Such terms are often imprecise. It may be better to retarget them to Social network (disambiguation). Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:10, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Redirect all to Social network. None of the titles are about the platform that social media can be used but just the general topic of social media. There is a hatnote at the top so no need to send readers to DAB page when the social netwprk page is the primary topic. RoostTC(ping me!) 06:45, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There is no mention of "Canada" anywhere in the target article or Social network, most likely leaving readers with no place to find the information stated in the title of this redirect. However, this redirect is a {{R with history}} that was created as an article in 2008 and was subject to a WP:BLAR and converted to a redirect towards the current article (with a different name then) in 2010. No such list at target article. In addition, this redirect seemed to previously have content, and after a series of moves, the content ended up at Draft:Outline of computer networking, which was subject to a WP:G13 deletion in 2019. Steel1943 (talk) 18:51, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like you've found another route by which material is deleted. Move it to draft space, and then it disappears a few weeks later as a matter of routine. I wonder how much WP content has been deleted through this method. As for the redirect, there appears to be no need for it. Delete.    — The Transhumanist   07:18, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to List of mathematics competitions and keep those that already target this page. (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 22:43, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

These should all link to the same page, especially Mathematical olympiad and Mathematical Olympiad which differ only by capitalisation. List of mathematics competitions appears to be a more plausible target, but I'm not entirely decided on which one should be chosen. Randi Moth (talk) 15:39, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Retarget all to List of mathematics competitions. Targeting some of them to International Mathematical Olympiad doesn't make sense when there are so many other mathematical olympiads. (To be fair, not every mathematics competition is called an "olympiad", but this distinguishing factor isn't strong enough to warrant making another page entirely in my opinion.) The result of the discussion was disambiguate. While there was some debate over the target location, it seemed like consensus was towards locating at Downshift. With no comments on location since the last relist explicitly about location and the lean towards Downshift, the result is DAB at Downshift with Downshifting retargeting to Downshift. (non-admin closure) TartarTorte 01:14, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what should be done with these. While at face value the current target seems ok, I have a couple of issues with it, namely that the concept of downshifting specifically isn't discussed at all, as well as the fact that other types of transmission (eg Automatic) also include downshifting. Note that both of these were originally created as articles, with Downshift moved to Downshift (Transformers), an article [1] which has been twice BLARed (and now is probably itself unsuitable but I'm getting sidetracked) and Downshifting moved to Downshifting (lifestyle) per a requested move discussion Talk:Downshifting (lifestyle)#Requested move 31 October 2017 where consensus found that shifting gears is the primary topic. Unlikely misspelling due to lack of space. Created in 2021, so not old enough to be a {{R from CamelCase}} that should be kept. Steel1943 (talk) 20:14, 4 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak keep - I don't think it's particularly unlikely, if anything I'd say quite plausible. I don't see a good reason not to take someone to exactly what they were looking for. A7V2 (talk) 23:22, 4 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep seeing that examples like UnitedStates exist, I will vote for this to be kept as well. RoostTC(please ping me when replying) 09:59, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Other than appearing in a list and indicating in which township these lakes exist, there is no information at the target or anywhere else on enwiki about these lakes. Other lakes listed at the target without links do not redirect there. Creates potential confusion with Mud Hen Lake, Minnesota, a township in a different county of Minnesota. Suggest deletion. Mdewman6 (talk) 05:23, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest a retarget to Mud Hen Lake, Minnesota and adding a hatnote that leads to the lake in Dakota County. Mud Hen Lake, Minnesota is the primary topic. RoostTC(ping me!) 13:38, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly oppose retargeting to Mud Hen Lake, Minnesota as we don't have Mud Hen Lake (due to ambiguity with a lake in Wisconsin, and perhaps elsewhere), but even if we did, it would make no sense to target the plural of a township name to the name of the township. That would be like having New York Cities be a redirect to New York City, or Grand Lakes (a town in Texas) being a redirect to Grand Lake, Colorado.
