Briefly existed as an article for a few hours in 2005 before it was nominated for CSD and redirected. However, it looks like CSD (G11, A7?) would have been the right call. It's not mentioned in the target article, and I don't see why it would given that it's not associated with the team in an official capacity. -- Tavix (talk) 23:40, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete, basically as the slowest ever speedy. No reason to keep if not mentioned. -- Tamzin (she/they) | o toki tawa mi. 01:38, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete No mention at target, no direct affiliation either.—Bagumba (talk) 08:19, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom, although it didn't meet any of the CSD criteria as they existed at the time. Thryduulf (talk) 10:41, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Well color me surprised, thanks for the history lesson. I just assumed they were in place by 11/2005. A7 was, but was only about people, but G11 was not. -- Tavix (talk) 13:15, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as non-notable fan website. AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 17:48, 29 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - should never have been redirected to the team... kind of silly, really. ‡ El cid, el campeador talk 17:47, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Trevor Williams, former member of the Canadian national basketball team[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. plicit 04:39, 5 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The first two of these were the title of Trevor C. Williams for the first few days of that article's existence, until the creator moved them to the current title. The third, weirdly enough, was for five months the title of Trevor Williams (basketball), now a redirect, which was created by the same person at the same time. 2006 was weird.

None of these is a plausible search term. The first gets near-zero pageviews (33 since '15). The second gets a surprising number (381). The third, despite having been an article's title for five months, gets only 130. I think that we should delete the first as implausible, unused, and short lifespan as an article title; (weak) keep the second for pageviews despite implausibility and short lifespan; and delete the third as implausible and unused, despite longer lifespan as an article. -- Tamzin (she/they) | o toki tawa mi. 22:03, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That's weird. It's not telling me 32 pageviews for the third. Not sure what's up with that. Any which way, still too few to justify keeping. -- Tamzin (she/they) | o toki tawa mi. 22:06, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all implausible search terms, and if someone does search them, they will get to the disambig page Trevor Williams and see there "Trevor C. Williams (born 1965), Canadian basketball player and coach" and reach it from there easily. --SuperJew (talk) 22:08, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The issue is that the relatively high number of pageviews for the second suggests that there might be a link on another site pointing to that title. -- Tamzin (she/they) | o toki tawa mi. 22:28, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all as implausible. I'm not worried about page views of the second redirect. The article has the phrase Williams is a former member of the Canadian national men's basketball team, which would definitely make this article the first result in any search of that term. -- Tavix (talk) 23:19, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all Implausible, extremely lengthy and unusual redirects. Crossover1370 (talk | contribs) 23:52, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

James Spears[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was disambiguate. signed, Rosguill talk 18:21, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Retarget to James Parnell Spears. Readers are most likely searching for Britney Spears' father and not for the subject of the current target. Or if kept, then at least a hatnote should be added there. CycloneYoris talk! 21:27, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Disambiguate; for both of the the two, "James Spears" seems like a plausible search term. ―Jochem van Hees (talk) 22:08, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • DAB. A disambiguation page is the clear solution when there are two notable people with the same first and last name, and one is not clearly more notable than the other. Any discussion on which person should hold the primary namespace can happen on the respective talk pages. -LtNOWIS (talk) 22:29, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per nom. Google searches indicate that Britney Spears' father is the overwhelming primary topic for "James Spears" and has been for at least a year. A hatnote should be added to the present target. Thryduulf (talk) 22:40, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • DAB - Britney's conservatorship has been in the news lately (centrally in the news), and many people are looking for her father's page at the moment. However, this is clear recentivism based upon a localized spike in interest on an individual. This is particularly true since he is generally referred to as 'Jamie Spears', per reliable sources. I will also note that Jamie Spears' page was only created in March 2021 (despite the fact he has been conservator for much longer). So, to assume that Jamie Spears is going to have long-term significance based upon recent activity is erroneous, in my view. Maybe re-evaluate after this news cycle dies down, but right now, a DAB page is the best option. ‡ El cid, el campeador talk 17:56, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

San Francisco Basketball Team[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget to Sports in the San Francisco Bay Area. signed, Rosguill talk 18:20, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Warriors were never known by this name. I'm leaning towards deletion as it is too vague to point to anywhere in particular, but San Francisco Dons men's basketball is probably the primary topic, especially since 1971 when the Warriors changed their name from "San Francisco" to "Golden State". -- Tavix (talk) 20:02, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • I lean keep on this one, because, while we're not a search engine, it doesn't hurt to sometimes account for a search-engine-style-term. Still thinking, though. My main observation here is that, just looking through search results, there's quite a few redirects like these. I'm gonna put together a Quarry to see exactly how many. -- Tamzin (she/they) | o toki tawa mi. 20:28, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Yikes, it looks like a redirect was created at the same time for NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS, and CFL teams (inspired by Washington Football Team since Washington Basketball Team was created first). It looks like I might have opened a can of worms. -- Tavix (talk) 20:49, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Tavix: Okay, this was as many false positives as I could eliminate without hitting an unacceptable number of false negatives or getting into really complicated coding stuff: quarry:query/56296. But still, managed to get it down to a number that can be filtered manually—288 redirects, probably about half of them similar in nature to this one (gross!). I still don't have a strong opinion on what to actually do with all of these, but I'm interested to see where this goes. -- Tamzin (she/they) | o toki tawa mi. 21:41, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In some cases the redirect is going to have a clear primary topic or even just a single plausible target (I suspect most of the GAA ones will be like this), those can be left alone with hatnotes added as needed. Others are plausible search terms with multiple targets, these we should retarget to a suitable page that lists the various options - often that will be Place#Sports or, as with this redirect, an article identified there as the main article for the topic. There are possibly some that need deletion, but none of those I spotchecked were obvious candidates for that, e.g. I expected EE Football Team to be highly ambiguous but it turns out that it isn't at all. In summary I don't think there is anything we can do with these as a set, they'll need to be looked at individually or in small groups of very similar ones. Thryduulf (talk) 22:35, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Sports in the San Francisco Bay Area where someone using this plausible search term can find the name of and a link to whichever basketball team they are interested in. Thryduulf (talk) 21:36, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. Lack of notability and not mentioned at target article. ZsinjTalk 22:31, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

While someone by this name has been charged in relation with the Capitol attack, they are not mentioned at the target. Delete unless a duly sourced mention can be added. signed, Rosguill talk 19:24, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. The subsection 'Investigations and prosecutions' has been split out into Criminal charges brought in the 2021 United States Capitol attack. That would be the only potentially appropriate target, but the treatment of names of arrestees there is apparently such that they aren't included unless the individuals are relatively notable and have been covered already on Wikipedia (seems quite proper). So, this information would not be added to any theoretically relevant target, and it would always be the case that the subject is not mentioned in the target. — Alalch Emis (talk) 20:13, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Per WP:RED, delete to encourage actual article creation. Seany91 (talk) 07:31, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Keep preferable that the reader is directed to the club article and can read about the club. There is so much WP:RED, especially in WOSO, that it is quite unlikely that the article will be created due to the redness of the link. --SuperJew (talk) 09:55, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Readers can't really read about the club at the target article, which mentions them precisely once, and only as an item in a list of honors the club has one. Furthermore, redirecting things to their male equivalent can do an added disservice to our readers and promote systemic bias. The fact that creation seems unlikely shouldn't enter into this. Having it's red is definitely more likely to improve its odds, and it's impossible to predict what redlink someone will decide is a good idea to turn blue. -- Tamzin (she/they) | o toki tawa mi. 15:45, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned at the target, but is mentioned in passing in a few other articles (Conscription Crisis of 1944, 509th Infantry Regiment (United States), USS Herndon (DD-638), Military history of Gibraltar during World War II), which suggest that the "soft underbelly" term was a slogan promoted by Churchill which did not end up representing the reality of the Italian Campaign. Likely due for mention at Italian campaign (World War II), but until such time as properly sourced content is added I think that deletion may be preferable to the current target. signed, Rosguill talk 18:02, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This term is not mentioned at the target, or indeed anywhere on Wikipedia so I'm left confused about why it redirects there.
