RARE[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep. (non-admin closure) Steel1943 (talk) 17:05, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I’d like to see this redirect re-targeted to Rare (company). The redirect has already been re-targeted there by multiple users, and I agree because Rare was known as and spelled their name out as RARE and it seems a lot more likely that anybody would be looking for the gaming company than anything else when typing in RARE. --37KZ (talk) 22:16, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per nom. Anarchyte (talk | work) 14:52, 20 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. "RARE" in itself is an acronym for two of the entries on the disambiguation page, being the Ram Air Rocket Engine and the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition. The redirect in all caps was redirected to Rare (company) unilaterally by a banned user and 2 IP users, all within the span of a month, which definitely does not set a precedent. The Rare video game company only stylizes their name in all caps; business-wise, it's still "Rare" without caps. In my eyes, this should not have priority over two plausible acronyms for "RARE", even if Banjo & Kazooie are fun to play with in Smash. Utopes (talk) 04:01, 21 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Utopes's acronym argument. signed, Rosguill talk 08:31, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose; keep it at the current target. There is a significant burden of proof on an argument to retarget a redirect to such a well-populated disambiguation page as this one; no actual argument has been really raised as to why the video game company is such an obvious target as to redirect all traffic at RARE to that - that capitalisation is not even their legal business name, and as has been mentioned above there are specific actual uses of the capitalised version. The fact that a number of users have changed the target without raising strong arguments is not an argument itself; this is clearly an ambiguous title that should be at a disambiguation page. ~ mazca talk 01:43, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. As well as the two acronyms noted above, RARE can also stand for Réseaux Associés pour la Recherche Européenne. Bad links to DAB pages get found and fixed; bad links to WP:PTOPICs rarely do. Narky Blert (talk) 14:22, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned at the target list, I would suggest deletion, as the list is only for Wikipedia-notable women writers. If sources are available such that Venkatraghavan meets notability guidelines, then we can write an article about her and add her to the list. signed, Rosguill talk 18:48, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Rubbish[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was move Rubbish (disambiguation) to Rubbish. signed, Rosguill talk 08:36, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Should this point to Waste or Garbage? Garbage specifically mentions rubbish in the lead, although the redirect currently points to Waste. Home Lander (talk) 19:52, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Move Rubbish (disambiguation) to primary as those two targets are equally plausible. Nonsense should be linked from the dab page, as should "cheap, low-quality, low-value objects" if we have an article (I'd be surprised if we don't, but it's not listed at the Rubbish dab page, the tat dab page only links to Wiktionary, the junk dab page has nothing relevant and dross is only about a specialised meaning. Thryduulf (talk) 00:59, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, BDD (talk) 15:34, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move dab to primary per Thryduulf – looks sensible to me, especially since the dab page defines rubbish as (equally?) referring to waste and garbage and there is no clear reason to favor one over the other in a redirect. ComplexRational (talk) 23:07, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Delete this unlikely search term. Fur and Loathing (CSI episode) exists. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 13:45, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. According to the page views tool, the page gets approximately one view in a month. Not a very active user (talk) 16:20, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. Might be good to find out what's still pinging this variant. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 18:03, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per above. Possibly a URL? Happy Festivities! // J947 (c) 04:11, 20 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per everything above, likely WP:SNOW at this point. Utopes (talk) 03:54, 21 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Probably supposed to be one of those "status unclear" species targeting Bucculatricidae (I retargeted the rest of them to the relevant section & rcat-templated them), but it's not mentioned in said article. It also probably doesn't exist at all, considering the sole result between google, google books and google scholar is a single hit to a Scribd document that's labelled "mapping of wikipedia index". No pageviews worth speaking of: 24 since mid-2015.

(Used to be a single-edit-created unreferenced stub with the wrong image & mis-pointed EL back in 2014 for about half a day before being redirected. I don't think that's history worth keeping, but figured I'd note it all the same) AddWittyNameHere 13:08, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete unattested. Perhaps a misspelling of some sort, but utterly unused outside of Wikipedia. Plantdrew (talk) 03:47, 20 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned in the target, does not appear to be an alternative name for it. Searching online, I found this, which would suggest that Pikavee is from a fan-made non-canon Pokemon game. signed, Rosguill talk 02:51, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Delete; I myself have never seen anyone refer to these games by this name, nor could I find any website that refers to them by that name. Stefvanschie (talk) 09:05, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete, more than likely a fan-created term if anything, or a fairly obscure abbreviation for "Pikachu" and "Eevee" combined. Regardless, it seems to have been made up one day. Utopes (talk) 03:53, 21 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Diana Dors's birth name was Diana Fluck, but having a redirect from Diana Fuck may a bridge too far. signed, Rosguill talk 02:33, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Support abusive redirect. —Naddruf (talk ~ contribs) 06:51, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete — not a unique or especially likely typo, and could perhaps fall within the scope of WP:G10. ComplexRational (talk) 23:05, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, unlikely typo of an alternative name and possibly offensive. Happy Festivities! // J947 (c) 04:13, 20 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, probably created out of a bad joke, but an implausible typo nonetheless. Utopes (talk) 03:51, 21 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was speedy keep. This nomination was an error, the names actually are mentioned on the jaWiki articles. (non-admin closure) signed, Rosguill talk 02:15, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not seeing any evidence that these are alternate names for the subjects in the targets, its noWiki and jaWiki links, or in their sources. signed, Rosguill talk 02:09, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
