Subtopic redirects to Funeral[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget to Funeral#Humanist and otherwise not religiously affiliated. Much obliged to CWM ~ Amory (utc) 15:45, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

These subtopics not mentioned in the target article. Thus, readers trying to find these specific subtopic as referenced by these redirects will not find what they are looking for. Steel1943 (talk) 20:04, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • This seems like one of those twilight areas between WP:REDLINK and "what we have is better than nothing". If I were looking for this topic, I'd find Funeral#Humanist interesting, but it's not a great deal to go on, and it's entirely UK-centric. Is this better than a situation that makes our absence of coverage explicit? I really don't know. --BDD (talk) 20:44, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom as with Atheist wedding. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 20:45, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Further thought: "Non-confessional funeral" suggests to me a nondenominational Christian funeral. Is that just personal bias? Wiktionary isn't giving me a clear answer, but use of an unusual term like "non-confessional" rather than "non-religious" suggests something different to me. --BDD (talk) 20:47, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There seems to be redirects for Non-confessional marriage and Non-confessional confirmation which should perhaps be reviewed as well. But non-confessional doesn't mean non-denominational. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 21:45, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget to Horizon (disambiguation)#Games. (non-admin closure) Galobtter (pingó mió) 13:29, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Delete, a PC game called Horizon exists, which has no relation to the game Horizon Zero Dawn. 2001:14BA:8864:B700:8C81:139D:7E69:643E (talk) 19:33, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep: no need to delete a redirect just because there is another possible target. No need to delete a redirect even when there is a better target. If there is a better target article on Wikipedia (I don't think there is right now), consider retargeting the redirect and tidying up existing links to the redirect. If there are multiple possible targets with no obvious main article, consider a disambiguation page. If there is likely to be confusion about which article a reader wants, consider hatnotes and a disambiguation page in addition to a redirect. Any of these changes can be made by any editor, but be prepared for discussions if there is any disagreement. Lithopsian (talk) 19:40, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the video game cover, Horizon is in large font, while Zero Dawn appears in smaller letters like a subtitle, so the colon might be a plausible typo, and Horizon can still be thought of as the main video game title. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 22:55, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fiesta Day[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. Search results do seem helpful, there are several articles that mention a local "Fiesta Day" of some sort. Perhaps there could be a disambiguation if someone wishes to curate them. -- Tavix (talk) 13:45, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This redirect is confused. In its current form, it cooks be argued that it has WP:FORRED issues due to the use of the word "fiesta", in addition to representing topics other than holidays. I'd imagine there may be a retargeting option for this redirect, but if not, it's probably best to delete it so that readers can use Wikipedia's search function to locate the page which they are attempting to locate. Steel1943 (talk) 19:23, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete as vague. It has been used in a number of local events, and doesn't have any usage from any incoming links on articles. We don't have redirects for "classic car show" or "art and wine festival". AngusWOOF (barksniff) 20:36, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. Paul Konerko is American! -- Tavix (talk) 13:43, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete I don't understand why the old name wasn't left on this redirect. And it has been sitting like this for almost 6 years, so hardly in need of a speedy delete, but I agree, it looks like it will be gone soon enough. - Donald Albury 16:54, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete all except shift dress, where it appears AngusWOOF has started work on a stub. -- Tavix (talk) 13:28, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

None of these redirects are mentioned at the target article. Thus, readers attempting to find information about these topic will not find what they are looking for. Steel1943 (talk) 14:58, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom, except Shift dress which can expand to a stub article. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 18:12, 21 May 2018 (UTC) updated 23:06, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all - To the extent that readers want to know more about fashion in terms of seasons and other details, then I guess it's better to just let them use the search engine. Worth mentioning as well that the general redirect 'Winter fashion' doesn't exist. 174.206.36.61 (talk) 05:04, 22 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I stumbled upon this RfD because I read this article and wanted to know what a shift dress was. I guess I agree that a redirect is pointless if the target doesn't say anything, but dress does say (under 17th century), Working women ... used simple patterns to create shifts. Don't know if that's enough to justify the redirect. -- RoySmith (talk) 20:39, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Probably not. List of dresses recommends the searcher to visit Category:Dresses to see all the different types. I noticed that Sheath dress is a comparable to Shift dress so that one could potentially be an article. [4] AngusWOOF (barksniff) 18:13, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

List of religions by age[edit]

The result of the discussion was delete. -- Tavix (talk) 13:23, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This certainly WP:SURPRISEd me when I was looking for a list of religions, rather than a list of people. List of religions and spiritual traditions isn't organized by age, and Timeline of religion has a broader scope. Can anything be done with this? (Should it?) BDD (talk) 14:07, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • We can delete it! (because WP:XY). It does have history, but hasn't been edited for 10 years. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 15:20, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete founders isn't a bad place to start, but there's nothing in that list that shows when they established the religion, so someone looking for ages will not get what they want. And in some cases, the religion isn't established until after the founder has died. Other religions don't have a founder. So until such information is incorporated in the founder list or in a separate list, this isn't needed. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 18:25, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • N.b., I found this when looking into the RfD for Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2018 May 17#Former religion, in hopes that we might have a place that effectively listed defunct religions. It doesn't seem we do, and as I think about it, I realize how difficult such a list could be to compile. --BDD (talk) 18:54, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - Given that many spiritual traditions either don't have a clear founder or else the relationship between the founder and the faith is complex (including, as stated above, things coming into being after the founder has died)... yes, this seems like something where deletion is the right call. The result of the discussion was keep. {{R from incorrect name}} (non-admin closure) feminist (talk) 01:53, 22 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect should be deleted because Malaysia is not a republic and never was a republic. It is constitutional monarchy that is a sultanate. Otis the Texan (talk) 02:28, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. It might make sense to target an article discussing republican movements in Malaysia, however we have no such article that I can find and based on google results it doesn't seem to be a significant topic in Malaysian politics - less significant even than in Norway (c.f. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Republic of Norway). Thryduulf (talk) 14:41, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep and tag with {{R from incorrect name}}. It's a very plausible error, since Malaysians elect people to represent them in the Parliament of Malaysia. I myself was surprised in my early Wikipedian days to learn that the British don't consider themselves to have a republican government. As per Republic, "In American English, the definition of a republic refers specifically to a form of government in which elected individuals represent the citizen body." So while I can completely respect that countries with monarchs will not call themselves republics under such circumstances, we must assume American readers, if no one else, could make such mistakes. And at the risk of venturing too far into WP:WAX territory, we tend to keep other incorrect redirects for countries and their governments, such as Prime Minister of the United States or Republic of Japan. In fact, the latter's RfD has discussion that bolsters my point. --BDD (talk) 20:01, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per BDD, considering BDD found one of the very past discussions for keeping such redirects that I was attempting to find myself. Steel1943 (talk) 19:34, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - Technically, the nation is a "federal constitutional monarchy with a Westminster-style parliamentary system of legislators" or something like that, indeed. Yet, as stated above, the definition of what is or isn't properly "republican" as far as structure goes is a shades-of-grey issue. I'd prefer that we err on the side of leaving the redirect be.
