The result of the discussion was soft redirect to Wiktionary. Thryduulf (talk) 07:40, 8 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please delete, as the term does not even occur once within the target article. Neufund (talk) 17:09, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment Mendacity has been pointing to Deception since 2007, same with Mendacious AngusWOOF (barksniff) 22:51, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Soft redirect to wikt:mendacity. Someone who searches for this is probably looking for a definition of the word, and neither the current target nor any other article provides that. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 20:50, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Tired of experts[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. Thryduulf (talk) 07:43, 8 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Previous RfDs for this redirect and similar redirects:

Not mentioned in the target, and doesn't seem to refer exclusively or particularly closely to Brexit. Michael Gove apparently declared that the British public was "tired of experts" during the United Kingdom European Union membership referendum, 2016 campaign, but the phrase isn't mentioned in either of those articles, or any other article. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 13:53, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • I knew this seemed familiar. I had to do some digging, but I've added an {{old RfD list}} linking to the relevant discussion. Note that it was not this exact redirect, and note also that Michael Gove#European Union is where it now points, the "Views on the EU" section now defunct. --BDD (talk) 16:14, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Ah, good find. So it seems that "tired of experts" is actually a paraphrasing of "had enough of experts"; that would explain why I wasn't able to find a source with a direct quote. Given that "tired of experts" isn't a direct quote I think CoffeeWithMarkets' comment in the other RfD, about the various contexts in which such phrases might be used, applies even more strongly to this one. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 16:43, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect to Michael Gove#European Union per previous RFD. Same quote. No one has since claimed it as primary topic. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 22:52, 30 August 2018 (UTC) updated 20:09, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - This is a loose paraphrasing that seems even more general than the redirect considered several months ago. So, this is exactly the sort of thing that shouldn't be nailed down specifically to one political figure's Wiki page. A lot of people have been "tired of experts". That's why the U.S. populace elected Donald Trump. That's why NAFTA, the U.S.-Iranian nuclear deal, and a bunch of other things are getting torn up. That's why Marie Le Pen nearly became the leader of France. That's why nationalistic groups in Germany are holding militaristic rallies in the streets. Tired of experts. Of course, whether or not this is emotionally liberating or agonizingly depressing depends on one's own views (going to note that valuing the testimony of people with knowledge about something sounds like a pretty solid idea to me, populism regardless). But it's a general social concept that's happening broadly and not a narrow matter connected to one person's paraphrase. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 10:37, 2 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - Too vague. If this had to go somewhere, anti-intellectualism would probably be the best of the poor choices available. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 09:12, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to strike my vote for this one since "tired of experts" is not used as a phrase in media, even for the anti-intellectualism. Someone could easily say "I don't like experts" or "I don't like intellectuals" but unless it's a slogan or catchphrase then it doesn't need to be connected or redirected here. No article links to this page per [1] and AfD result is delete not redirect per WP:Articles for deletion/Iran at the 2006 FIFA World Cup (2nd nomination) and when an AfD closer closed AfD, they also removed all links from all other articles to the page Hhkohh (talk) 08:03, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related deletions. GiantSnowman 08:18, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - not needed, per AFD consensus. GiantSnowman 08:22, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. The consensus was that the information available at the target article was sufficient such that a separate article was not required. Redirection was not mentioned at all (so saying there is consensus against it is completely false) and there was a discussion not long ago here that reiterrated the principle that consensus for deletion of an article was not automatic consensus against a redirect. The target article has information about Iran at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, and the redirect targets the relevant section, so it takes anyone using this redirect directly to the content they are looking for. It is also a very plausible search term given the many other <country> at the <year> FIFA World Cup articles and redirects that exist. Thryduulf (talk) 13:19, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Thryduulf: Can you show these redirects to me? Hhkohh (talk) 14:10, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • Not right now as I don't have the bandwidth to work out why my searches are not working (I'm using mobile data while in hospital). If nobody else gets to it I'll try again when I next can. The presence of articles by this naming format alone though makes this a likely search term. Thryduulf (talk) 14:21, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
        • Yes, the consensus was to delete... GiantSnowman 07:17, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
          • The consensus was to delete the article because the content at the current target article was sufficient. The consensus was not to remove all mention of the topic from the encyclopaedia, nor was there consensus against redirecting the title to the target - redirects were not discussed at all. Thryduulf (talk) 18:27, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep I agree with Thryduulf. WP:R: "Redirects are used to help people arrive more quickly at the page they want to read." فرهنگ2016 (talk) 18:09, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as a plausible {{R to subtopic}} Joseph2302 (talk) 18:23, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - Reasonable {{r to section}}. The content, i.e. a redirect, is substantially different from what was there, which nullifies the AfD result. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 01:06, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
