Talk:Moody’s Analytics Knowledge Service[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. I'm also fine with calling this G8. -- Tavix (talk) 20:07, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion was declined with "Just an ordinary talk redirect" for the reason. However, Moody’s Analytics Knowledge Service does not exist, so G8 was supposed to apply. Should the talk page redirect be deleted, or should the corresponding subject page be created? GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 23:03, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep; it's {{R from move}}, and we gain no benefit from deleting it. Nyttend (talk) 23:39, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Eligible for {{Db-talk}} since its parent page doesn't exist. So, per nom. Steel1943 (talk) 23:47, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • Also, per the redirect's edit history, it should be eligible per {{Db-g6}} as the creator seemed to create it in error per "UGH". In fact, I'd even say that this redirect may even be eligible for {{Db-g7}} per the nominator's comment. Steel1943 (talk) 23:50, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

7 GRAND DAD[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. -- Tavix (talk) 20:05, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article itself does not mention 7 GRAND DAD (A bootleg version of the target page) anywhere. If the article doesn't mention it, what's the point of redirecting 7 GRAND DAD to it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.235.231.28 (talk) 18:40, 13 April 2017‎ (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. -- Tavix (talk) 20:05, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Though this film is upcoming, the formatting of this redirect makes the redirect an unlikely search term and WP:COSTLY to maintain. Also, How To Train Your Dragon 3 (2019 film) exists and targets the same location as this nominated redirect. Steel1943 (talk) 18:23, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was no consensus. -- Tavix (talk) 20:04, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that these redirects should be deleted because the title formats are incorrect, and they currently have no internal and external links. Iftekharahmed96 (talk) 20:11, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep both are legit titles for the name of the series and refer to the appropriate series articles. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 01:59, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I can create a redirect for Power Pros/Power Pro Pocket with the Japanese titles without the word series un-bracketed. Having the word series un-bracketed is why I considered it for deletion because the word series is not part of the franchise's name. Iftekharahmed96 (talk) 07:44, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Relisting comment: Relisting since this nomination was malformed until today. Until this relisting, neither of the nominated redirects were tagged with {{Rfd}}, and the nomination was listed to appear as the former redirect targeting the latter redirect instead of their actual targets.

  • Delete I've created redirects called Jikkyo Pawafuru Puro Yakyu and Pawapoke. These redirects were created for anyone who typed the Japanese names of these Konami franchises. Therefore, the redirects that we are currently discussing lo longer have a purpose as they are formatted incorrectly, and are currently duplicates at this point. Autonomous learning[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was disambiguate Autonomous learning and retarget Autonomous Learning there. Thryduulf (talk) 12:42, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure. The section does exist and discusses it, but I'm not sure that "Autonomous learning" is specific to the home education of children, so there may be a better target (I couldn't find one. Montessori education sprang to mind, but does not use the term: a quick search shows that it does seem to be used mostly for home education, and not just generally for continuing education or what have you. We do have an article on Learner autonomy but these autonomies are not synonymies, it seems to me (learner autonomy is largely concerned with learning foreign languages). Catting both as {{R to section}} for now. Si Trew (talk) 19:58, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment is it a term specific to homeschooling or is it applied across multiple institutions. There's Self-paced instruction which is used in more places than homeschool. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 02:39, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep since the term is well described at the target article. -- Tavix (talk) 19:34, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget "List of notable homeschooled individuals" to List of homeschooled people, delete "famous home schoolers". Well done Tavix for the proposal. Deryck C. 10:28, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No such section; presumably deleted. WP:RFD#D2 confusing, not at target. Si Trew (talk) 19:50, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. If such a list becomes notable, it can be re-created. Also should be separate from self-taught. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 16:49, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget the first to List of homeschooled people. The list was not "deleted" as the nominator presumed. Instead, the list was merged to Homeschooling and then split again, with the redirects left behind. Delete Famous home schoolers. Notable ≠ famous. -- Tavix (talk) 19:28, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Data deletion[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget to Data erasure as the most plausible alternative to the current target. Deryck C. 10:21, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Data is not synonymous with file. - CHAMPION (talk) (contributions) (logs) 04:57, 2 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • keep. It's not strictly synonymous but it's close and much closer than anything else on the Deletion dab page. Thryduulf (talk) 09:05, 2 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, per Thryduulf, it's a reasonable existing match, not precluding an article if anyone wishes to construct one. Chiswick Chap (talk) 14:12, 2 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to data erasure as more closely related than files are. – Train2104 (t • c) 21:30, 2 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak Retarget to data erasure per Train2104. My only concern is that "data erasure" seems to mean completely destroying data, while I'm not sure this term carries that gravity, hence the weak. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 12:43, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to data erasure as the more closely related term. -- Tavix (talk) 19:10, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Isn't data deletion a rather more broad term than data erasure? It can additionally refer for example to the process of deleting data from a database. I'm not sure how encyclopedic this latter use would be, but the concept is very briefly covered at that article. – Uanfala (talk) 18:38, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

M. Johnson[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget to List of people with surname Johnson. (non-admin closure) Uanfala (talk) 10:39, 30 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Poor title, two incoming mainspace links are for two different people, neither of whom is or was a ballet dancer in New York or anywhere. DuncanHill (talk) 20:29, 28 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to List of people with surname Johnson where people will find links to many people called "M. Johnson". Thryduulf (talk) 20:37, 28 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, too vague to be useful. I find no evidence of anyone who went by the name "M. Johnson", which makes this implausible as a search term. -- Tavix (talk) 20:38, 28 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete no such M. Johnson in the ballet list. there are also a bunch of people who have M. as middle initial and Johnson as last name in their Wikipedia articles. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 23:27, 28 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to the Johnson list. Regardless of whether the person actively went by "M. Johnson" in life, names frequently get abbreviated like this (I spent most of the last couple working days identifying publishers in our library catalogue, and tons of publisher names get abbreviated this way (e.g. J. Wilson), so having this go a list of Johnsons with first names would definitely be more useful (if nothing else, for examining all the M. Johnsons and finding one relevant to the searcher's needs) than deleting it. Nyttend (talk) 23:10, 14 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per Nyttend. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 21:51, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Michael William Sharp. (non-admin closure) Uanfala (talk) 10:41, 30 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Too generic of a name to make a useful redirect. Not mentioned at target, so causes confusion when linked to or searched. ansh666 18:58, 28 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There's also a very recent news article about a UN worker named Michael Sharp who died in the Congo. [1] [2] So that will attract all the recent searches, but whether the worker meets WP:BLP1E is still to be determined. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 00:07, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to the painter and add a hatnote for the psychiatrist. If someone else had nominated this redirect, and Ansh666 came along right now and read everyone's comments, I strongly doubt that he'd support deletion. Nyttend (talk) 23:13, 14 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A great example of why age alone isn't a good reason to keep a redirect. This one has been around for over 13 years! But it was created as a fork of the main article and redirected there within hours. It's harmful because we have no "brief profile" of Professor X, so any reader coming across that long article may be mislead by this suggestion otherwise. BDD (talk) 13:33, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 20:35, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. I don't remember the last time I saw someone nominate a very old redirect for deletion using a rationale with which I agreed. Most such nominations are basically "here's an unusual redirect, we delete these all the time, see this RFD from last week", with no attempt to consider that really old redirects should be kept unless they're actively problematic. Instead, BDD gives a solid argument, acknowledging the age issue and showing why this redirect really is harmful, despite the age. I agree that this redirect will confuse the average person who encounters it, and as there's nowhere to retarget it, deletion is the best choice, unfortunately.
