  • Weak retarget to Team Hitec Products which indicates that the team's abbreviation is HPU. A bit clunky, but perhaps a plausible search. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 00:13, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That would be a better target since it actually has somewhat of a timeline. Still, not the most natural of searches, so IMHO whether it gets deleted or not probably doesn't matter. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 13:56, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to C++ as a plausible search term. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 23:59, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. I don't think this is a plausible search term for C++. Searching in bing only gets three results when looking for "C++ProLang" one is the redirect, the other is category page linking to the redirect, the last is a foreign language page, that seems to be an mirror of Arabic language version of Wikipedia. PaleAqua (talk) 04:10, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per PaleAqua & as an obscure synonym. "ProLang" is the name of plenty of real things none of which have anything to do with C++; "ProLang" as a shortened form of "programming language" is almost entirely unheard of (note Prolang, ProLang are red). 210.6.254.106 (talk) 07:03, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sigehumi Hino[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was restore Shigefumi Hino and send to AfD, retargeting the others there. --BDD (talk) 19:51, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Delete per WP:XY and WP:R#D1. Shigefumi has had several roles, being the creator of Yoshi was just one of them. I don't think we should pigeon-hole our readers into just one facet of his career when search results would reveal that he's been a director for: Yoshi's Island, Pikmin, Pikmin 2, Pikmin 3, a designer for Super Mario Maker, and others. -- Tavix (talk) 17:43, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • A restoration of the previous article would also alleviate my concerns, although I'm unsure of the notability. -- Tavix (talk) 18:14, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
...Meaning that I also support restoration of the article. Steel1943 (talk) 19:29, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it's a stretch that those looking for Hino are interested in his work on Yoshi, in particular (I don't think WP:XY applies, nor do I think D1 automatically applies for WP:XY...), but if you want to delete the redirects, AfD might be a better route. I am no longer watching this page—ping if you'd like a response czar 17:56, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Was he the original creator of Yoshi? Why is he not mentioned in that article besides the infobox then? Same with Pikman series. If he directed all three titles, he should have sections in the franchise article. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 17:03, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: Tavix and Steel1943, which option do you prefer? If relisting doesn't lead to consensus, I wouldn't be sure how to close this.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, BDD (talk) 16:35, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm probably leaning towards restoration+AFD, which is (IMO) what consensus is tilting towards when factoring in Czar and WhisperToMe's comments. -- Tavix (talk) 21:43, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Would support restoration plus AfD as a compromise solution since deleting the redirect would be deleting an article by redirection without the benefit of an AfD. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 00:10, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Mark me for supporting "restoration plus AfD". Steel1943 (talk) 15:20, 6 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Cat Claw[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was move Cat Claw (comic book) over redirect. --BDD (talk) 19:46, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Redundant as the redirect "Cat claw" already exists. No need to capitalize the C in "claw." Proud User (talk) 11:25, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. Such redirects from non-distinctive capitalisation variants are, to me, profoundly irritating. If they're kept, they add a maintenance burden: they're a hassle any time the redirect gets retargeted or recategorised. I think I remember seeing some of these get speedy deleted per WP:G6, the few ones I've tagged for CSD have invariably been declined. I nominated one here earlier this month and the outcome was keep (Although I think it's possible it was closed as "keep", rather than relisted, simply because I hadn't bothered to use bold typeface in the nomination.)
I think it's best if the WP:CSD criteria could be amended to explicitly include such redirects as eligible for speedy deletion. After all, even editors who support keeping such redirects would agree that they shouldn't have been created in the first place. Uanfala (talk) 12:45, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Me again: It seems that in the case of Cat Claw, it is a distinctive capitalisation variant as it can refer to Cat Claw (comic book), to which I suggest retargeting. Uanfala (talk) 12:51, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe it'll be more sensible to move Cat Claw (comic book) back to Cat Claw as the disambiguator isn't necessary? Uanfala (talk) 12:54, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also, as an alternative, "weak disambiguate" only the capitalized term, including the cat anatomy subject and the book on the list. Steel1943 (talk) 17:40, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds OK, but cat's claw should be a See Also or a hatnote if the capitalized term is a dab page. Plantdrew (talk) 04:56, 19 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move Cat Claw (comic book) to Cat Claw and add hat notes. That's the only topic that uses the second capital C. If there were more than those three terms, you could create a disambiguation page as with Zebra stripe. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 14:45, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Crossed out "add hatnotes" since the hatnotes are already there. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 19:38, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Big state[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. The term is clearly ambiguous and there's limited appetite in this discussion to convert to disambiguation page. Deryck C. 16:58, 14 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The term "big state" is not in the target article. Also, "state" doesn't always mean "government". Steel1943 (talk) 14:03, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete unless anyone has any better suggestions. Now-banned user Falongen (and his various socks/anon edits) went nuts creating all these weird redirects/edits/redirect changes and caused no end of disruption, so I don't think anyone will miss this one.... • Delete or Retarget to He Got Game. I'll begin by disclosing my bias as an American, but when I hear "big state" my mind immediately goes to "Texas," "California," or "Alaska." My Google search more-or-less confirmed that because I get a lot of hits for Texas themed memoribilia, and also some hits for He Got Game, so AngusWOOF has a point there. While I don't think Siuenti is wrong by saying that "big state" is used in that sense, I don't think it would be the WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT and also believe it would be a surprise for those who are trying to find the title of a film or perhaps which state is the biggest (Yes, I'm referring to American states here, but this discussion is still fresh in my mind.) -- Tavix (talk) 15:50, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Good find about List of states and territories of the United States. That could be a suitable redirect as well, as it covers largest/smallest states with various criteria (land size, population). But state is a vague term too. Does it apply only to US states? What about other states? How is it used in science? Can something have a big state? AngusWOOF (barksniff) 16:53, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Off the top of my head, I know Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, and India have states and I know there are several others, so that list would get big (pun intended) fast. State can also refer to a "nation state" or "member state" (eg: List of member states of the United Nations.) There's state of matter, but I can't see it being used there... -- Tavix (talk) 17:02, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • How does any of this justify not letting someone find the article they searched for because they used the wrong synonym for the title? What are they supposed to do, pull out a thesaurus? Siuenti (talk) 17:18, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
How do we know that's what they're looking for? That's my problem with this redirect. "Big state" is vague and doesn't mean the same thing as "big government" (IMO) most of the time. -- Tavix <supI>(talk) 21:45, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
OK let's suppose that people using the wrong synonym are the minority of people using the search term. You seem to be saying to them "we needed to help the majority of people to find the search results, so we didn't enable you to find the article you were looking for". Is that right? Siuenti (talk) 19:16, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Too vague. The use in He Got Game seems way too minor, just a placeholder name without real significance. --BDD (talk) 19:44, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@BDD: what are people who find this term used in reliable sources and attempt to look it up supposed to do when they fail? Siuenti (talk) 09:30, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Like what? You mentioned Google Books hits, so I took a look. Most are placeholders, like the usage in He Got Game. Others are examples in international relations, where the usage is referring to a large country, rather than "big government". There are also mentions of large US states, as Godsy mentioned. Did you have specific examples in mind? --BDD (talk) 13:32, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
