Patrijarh Pavle‎[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget Pavle. Deryck C. 16:51, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion. Redirection uses alternative language in potentially confusing way, since there were two patriarchs with that name. Sorabino (talk) 23:06, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to Pavle where there current target is listed, and the other Patriarch of the name should be added (even if it's a redlink currently). Thryduulf (talk) 23:10, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note I just added the other Pavle to the page Pavle. Thanks for suggestion. Sorabino (talk) 23:26, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Patriarch Vikentije[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was withdrawn. Nominator created article on the other patriarch, so this can now be retargeted to Vikentije without issue. -- Tavix (talk) 17:50, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion. Redirection is potentially confusing. There were two patriarchs named Vikentije. Sorabino (talk) 22:26, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to Vikentije (a dab page) where both Patriarchs are listed. Thryduulf (talk) 22:54, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as is, since the other patriarch doesn't have an article. There's currently a bolded hatnote that should alleviate confusion. I also note that the other patriarch's entry currently fails WP:DABRL, so it shouldn't even be listed there (but I'll leave it for now). -- Tavix (talk) 23:50, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note I edited links for both patriarchs on the page Vikentije so now page Patriarch Vikentije can be redirected there. Thanks. Sorabino (talk) 17:12, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

List of irish cheeses[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep. JohnCD (talk) 22:02, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

RHaworth deleted this as WP:CSD#R3 but was challenged by Godsy, and Godsy alerted me of their exchange since I've closed a previous RfD on similar redirects. Since the redirect arose as {{R from other capitalization}} I tend to agree that "implausible typo" doesn't apply, but the "no consensus" outcome of the aforementioned RfD means that there isn't an existing mandate to restore this redirect either. So I'm procedurally nominating this to RfD so we can have a proper discussion on the merits of this redirect. Deryck C. 21:07, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep per the other discussion. I guess it doesn't hurt to nominate this, but since the other ones were kept (by default due to a no consensus, but still kept), I don't see why this would be any different. -- Tavix (talk) 21:11, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Redirects from other capitalisations are and will remain beneficial the project as long as at least some methods of searching or browsing Wikipedia are case sensitive - directly entering the URI is one example. {{R from incorrect capitalisation}} redirects (as this is) can also highlight a maintenance need in Wikipedia articles. Thryduulf (talk) 21:20, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. A capitalization based redirect is allowable by guidelines.--Prisencolin (talk) 23:36, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • As the other ten I created that follow this exact same pattern were retained per Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2016 July 9#Lists of cheeses (where I personally brought them to the community for discussion), and there is nothing about this that is any different to provide more of a rationale to delete it, this should be kept.Godsy(TALKCONT) 03:12, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - I would stick with previous precedent and how these such redirects are frequently kept. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 08:56, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

3rd Tank Division[edit]

The result of the discussion was 'retarget to 3rd Division (a disambig). Thryduulf (talk) 10:44, 28 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Very generic article name, redirecting to an article that doesn't mention it at all and isn't obviously connected to it. Slashme (talk) 13:48, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • For consideration, we also have 3rd Tank Division (Imperial Japanese Army), 3rd Guards Tank Army (Soviet Union) (redirect from 3rd Tank Army (Soviet Union)) and 3rd Tank Battalion. This is a complicated situation that hasn't been frequently addressed. Some military unit names are clearly unique enough; some obviously need disambiguation due to multiple pages with the same name. But what about cases where only the type of unit is different? Are hatnotes sufficient? I could see lumping them on a dab, but what would you call the dab? WP:MILMOS#UNITNAME applies, though it recommends unnecessary disambiguation, which is at odds with higher policies and guidelines. --BDD (talk) 16:03, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • 3rd Tank Division is related to 300th Rifle Division, please see the 2nd formation section in the article. I have moved the 3rd Tank Division page to 3rd Tank Division (Soviet Union) redirect page, as there already exists a 3rd Division disambig page (at which I have added 3rd Tank Division (Soviet Union) as an entry). Kges1901 (talk) 18:22, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to 3rd Division since that appears to be the most helpful for readers CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 09:00, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to SkyWest Airlines and hatnote. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 06:59, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Propose retargeting to SkyWest Airlines. A reader capitalizing the letter W isn't going to be looking for the Australian airline. The American airline gets much more page views than its parent company. SSTflyer 12:31, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget with a hatnote to the disambiguation page, I agree that the US airline is the primary topic for this search. Thryduulf (talk) 19:10, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Neelix Redirect. This seems like it should go somewhere, but I'm not sure what the correct target is, and this is about as far from my areas of knowledge as it is possible to get. Tazerdadog (talk) 05:59, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was keep. JohnCD (talk) 21:45, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

request deletion or redirection, it seems that while video game guides aren't allowed in Wikipedia, guides on other games and sports are allowed. For example the article Sicilian defence Prisencolin (talk) 22:04, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Speedy keep. You appear to be disagreeing with the content at the target, not the redirect. For at least as long as we have some policy or guideline about game guides this redirect will be useful. Thryduulf (talk) 22:59, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    • I do disagree with the guideline's content, but I'm pointing out that the redirect could be misread or potentially be abused by suggesting that other types of "games" are covered by the guideline.--Prisencolin (talk) 23:34, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • No opinion about the redirect (yet), but I disagree with Thryduulf's statement. The section specifically refers to video game guides not being allowed, and nothing about other types of games, so this isn't a situation where someone's trying to remove content via RFD. While I agree that the redirect could be confusing, I do feel that people should actually click on what their referencing to find out that WP:GAMEGUIDE specifically refers to video games. -- Tavix (talk) 23:39, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree, but it usually takes a while for new shortcuts to enter Wikipedian's lexicon. I would support a discouragement of use of the redirect, perhaps by deprecating it (see WP:DIVA for an example) and/or removing it from the list at WP:NOT. However, deletion would cause other problems, since there's a significant amount of links that would be broken (more than 1000) if this were to be deleted. Tavix (talk · contribs) 00:11, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    • (edit conflict) @Tavix: the solution to that is to add (or link to) content about other games from the current target. The existing redirect has many uses pointing to the current target so we would need a very good reason to delete it or retarget it. Thryduulf (talk) 00:13, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Not necessarily, the current set-up gets the point across just fine. The only entry that discusses a guide for any sort of game is entry #3, which makes it clear that it's "video game guides." The confusion lies with the redirect, not the content, since people use WP:GAMEGUIDE willy-nilly as an argument to delete any sort of game-like content that could offer guidance. Perhaps there's a way to subscribe so you get a notification for every time "WP:GAMEGUIDE" is used, so you could call out everyone that uses it incorrectly, but I doubt that's a feasible solution. -- Tavix (talk) 00:22, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just because some people use a redirect incorrectly does not mean there is a problem with the redirect - it can be, and is, used correctly as well. As for the notifications, this would be a very useful feature and you are not the first to suggest it - see Phab:T66090. Thryduulf (talk) 01:36, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep in some form, due to the thousands of links that would be broken if this were to be deleted, but I'm open to other suggestions. -- Tavix (talk) 18:37, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep I do agree with the nominator's concern but this is more about adding text to the actual target about guides for other types of games rather than outright deletion. --Lenticel (talk) 00:27, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Technically ambiguous, but "game guide" overwhelming refers to walkthroughs/strategy guides for video games. The redirect is fine and I say this as someone who leans towards inclusion of video game-related articles.---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 15:00, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
