Michael Ancher

Michael Ancher (9 June 1849 – 19 September 1927) was a Danish realist artist, best known for his paintings of fishermen and other scenes from the Danish fishing community in Skagen. Several painters moved to an artist's colony in Skagen each summer, and it was here that he met his wife Anna, who mostly painted interiors and simple themes from the everyday lives of the local people, especially country folk, women and children. The couple settled in the town, and the house in which they once lived has been turned into the Anchers Hus, a museum and gallery, which houses some of their original furniture, and paintings created by them and other Skagen artists.
