Why do so many edit requests show the same timestamp?[edit]

At Category:Wikipedia_conflict_of_interest_edit_requests there is a large number of requests that all have the exact same timestamp "2022-05-15 03:21", but if you go to the talk page where the request is made, the timestamps are not all the same. What's up? And is there anyway to fix it? I don't see this issue at CAT:ESP. RudolfRed (talk) 02:27, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@RudolfRed, there was a discussion here which resulted in a split, and when the split happened, all the pending requests were (for some reason) reset to show as being submitted on the split date. Someone asked about it here at the help desk a few weeks ago. 174.21.19.94 (talk) 02:58, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Link to previous discussion, for the curious: voila. 174.21.19.94 (talk) 03:02, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It transcludes User:AnomieBOT/COIREQTable which was created that day and apparently didn't try to date existing requests. The bot appears to look for diff times and not signature timestamps. I would ignore it. The issue should go away when the old requests are answered. Start answering them if you really want to fix it! PrimeHunter (talk) 03:00, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the replies and the explanations. RudolfRed (talk) 05:35, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Use of forward slash in article titles[edit]

There must be something on this somewhere in the various style guides but I can't find it. Is an article title in the format (for example) [[Petitlieu / Kleinort]] acceptable, i.e., names of the same topic or place in two different languages separated by a forward slash? My feeling is that it's not but I want to be able to back it with a policy or at least a guideline before I do anything more about it. Thanks, Ingratis (talk) Ingratis (talk) 04:15, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Ingratis: Alternative names belong in redirects and the lead, not the title. See Wikipedia:Article titles#Treatment of alternative names. PrimeHunter (talk) 04:54, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'm looking at articles relating to bilingual communities where there is no agreement over which is the primary language. Is there anywhere that says explicitly that forward slashes can't be used like this? Ingratis (talk) 05:03, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ingratis: I don't know a rule which explicitly spells out this scenario but it's clear from many statements at Wikipedia:Article titles#Deciding on an article title and elsewhere that article titles should not include alternative names. See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names)#Alternative names for a rule specific to geographic names. When we have a clear rule, we don't add a long list of scenarios which are clearly covered by the rule. PrimeHunter (talk) 05:35, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
OK - thanks. Ingratis (talk) 05:54, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Even the article for "slash city" does not get a slash in its name.   Maproom (talk) 06:58, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ingratis Some drug articles, including Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir = Paxlovid, a current hot topic, do have a slash in their title. These are for drugs sold in combination, however, not alternative names for a single drug. In the case of language names, I think that WP:COMMON applies, i.e. it is a question of what the sources say, not what those bilingual communities believe. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:13, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And Neustadt/Harz is a village but again, it's not alternative names. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:56, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Again, thanks! Ingratis (talk) 23:38, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Jacklin[edit]

I’m the co-author with Tony Jacklin of a new book ‘Tony Jacklin: My Ryder Cup Journey’. The URL for the book can be found on his Wiki page. Can you please add it to the list of books at the top of his page? Sportshippo (talk) 10:27, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, and then discuss it on Talk:Tony Jacklin. At the absolute minimum, we'd need a better source to include the book than an image of the front cover. AndyTheGrump (talk) 11:14, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I’m new to wiki - could you please explain? Sportshippo (talk) 11:45, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sportshippo I have also commented on your similar request at the teahouse. Please stick to one venue. Meanwhile, please read the links that AndyTheGrump and I have provided. To add a book reference we need the ISBN and other details such as the author and publisher and date of publication, not a link to a picture of the front page. Use of some part of text[edit]

Is it possible use part of text of some pages with an NFT project? Ethan978 (talk) 12:48, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Generally you can reuse text from Wikipedia anywhere, as long as you attribute it correctly. See reusing Wikipedia content ColinFine (talk) 13:50, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Samuel Gompers High School Bronx NY.[edit]

The school was a vocational school up until 1964 when Technical classes were added. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Campusbob (talkcontribs) 14:41, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Campusbob. If you have an improvement to suggest to an article, please suggest it on the article's talk page - here, Talk:Samuel Gompers High School. Please note that all information included in a Wikipedia article should be verifiable from a reliable published source. ColinFine (talk) 14:55, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Campusbob The talk page is very inactive,so I encourage you to edit the article directly, but as @ColinFine said you need to find a reference. I suggest you search the New York Times. Otherwise searching www.books.google.com will give you short snips, that may lead you to books in your local library. Based on one of the book snips, it sound an interesting place "Samuel Gompers Vocational Technical High School in the South Bronx section of New York City was widely viewed as a " war zone"". Upload images[edit]

Hello, I uploaded 2 images but they were deleted. Please explain me what information of image should I provide? I downloaded the images from this site https://www.kinopoisk.ru/ . I asked from a support team of this site permission to use images in wikipedia. But they replied that I should to ask about this from a copyright holder. However I don't know who is copyright holder.

Best regards Judgin1982 (talk) 17:01, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

 – It appears that the image was uploaded to Commons. See the user's Commons talk page.
Hello. Please be aware that unless there is a statement to release images as free content, everything is copyrighted, even if it does not have a copyright notice. We do not accept images that are only authorized for use in Wikipedia. (Except, of course, as non free content used under a claim of fair use). If you want to upload them, the copyright holder either has to add a statement to release it under a free license, or e-mail a statement of permission privately. If you don't know the copyright owner, sorry, but the copyright owner will still have to send a release or add a statement of permission to use it. weeklyd3 (block | talk | contributions) 17:14, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
...oh, I realized that the images were uploaded to Commons. Non-free content must be uploaded to Wikipedia locally, not to Commons. weeklyd3 (block | talk | contributions) 17:15, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, thank you for your reply. But could you explain how to upload images locally?

Merle Hoffman Log In Info[edit]

Hello,

I am writing on behalf of Merle Hoffman who has a Wikipedia page that someone at some point was handling a few years ago. We do not have the log in information and have attempted to try to obtain via "Forgot my password". We have tried both Merle Hoffman's personal and business email address and neither is receiving an email to reset.

Please advise if you can assist. I can be reached at (Redacted)

Thank you!

Sotiria Peppas 70.23.4.51 (talk) 18:10, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Did Merle have an account? If not, there is no password. weeklyd3 (block | talk | contributions) 18:11, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In the future, please do not give out contact info or other sensitive info on this high traffic help page. weeklyd3 (block | talk | contributions) 18:16, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
See Help:Logging_in#What_if_I_forget_my_password?. If you haven't got a known email address or username, it can be difficult to regain access to the account.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 18:19, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you had succeeded in getting a responce, it would have immediately led to that account being blocked. We do not allow shared accounts because it makes proper attribution pretty much impossible. Register your own account, and make sure nobody else has access to the password. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 18:19, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Anyone can edit Merle Hoffman, as long as they comply with Wikipedia's Policies and guidelines. Your comments indicate that you have a Conflict of interest and may possibly be a Paid editor. You must make the necessary disclosures. Cullen328 (talk) 18:27, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Sotiria. It sounds as if you have a (very common) misunderstanding of what Wikipedia is and how it works. There is no concept of "logging into a page" or of being responsible for maintaining a page. The encyclopaedia article Merle Hoffman does not belong to her, and is not controlled by her. It may be edited by almost anybody in the world - with the notable exception of Hoffman and her associates, who are strongly discouraged from editing it directly, and should instead make Edit requests for any changes they would like to see. Note that the article should be almost entirely based on reliable published sources wholly unconnected with her, and not on what she or her associates say or want to say. Where to ask for a page review?[edit]

Hello, I've been working lately on the page Juan José Arreola and I want to continue working on it and improving it. I know more or less what its short-comings are (very few sources, for example) but I want to know more about what I can do to make it better. Is there any place on Wikipedia where someone can tell me what would be good for the page? What direction should I take to go beyond a 'Start' class article? Essentially I'm looking for a page review. Thanks. DemianStratford (talk) 19:00, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! There are multiple places to ask for a review. Probably easiest is to ask help at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mexico or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography. For a more thorough review, you can try WP:Peer review, but it sometimes takes a while to be picked up. For really fast feedback, you may want to consider joining the WP:DISCORD group. Femke (talk) 19:12, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Will look them up. DemianStratford (talk) 19:41, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Can't log in[edit]

Hi All: I have been unable to log in to correct a grammatical error in the item Highland Valley Copper Mine, specifically in the sentence: "This operation of two mines in close proximity by the same company lead to a case brought before the Supreme Court of Canada on what constituted a mine for tax purposes". It's led, not lead. Would someone be kind enough to correct the error. Thanks. Larry 24.85.241.120 (talk) 19:01, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

 Done. DemianStratford (talk) 19:08, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Highland Valley Copper mine isn't protected in any way, so you should be able to edit it.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 19:10, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Claiming edits attributed to an IP address[edit]

Is there any way of claiming edits that are attributed to my IP address? I neglected to notice that I was not logged in. I think it is important that the edits be attributed to me as it may have some bearing on questions of copyright. Anyone with such questions would have no idea who to contact. The IP address if it matters or if someone can do something about it is 24.34.20.44. choogendyk (talk) 21:39, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Chris.Hoogendyk. If you want, you can put a note on your user page mentioning that you have edited logged out and mentioning your IP address if you are not concerned about privacy issues. Attribution to an IP address is just as good as attribution to a registered account, and there are no copyright concerns. Cullen328 (talk) 21:44, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But there's no way of changing the attribution from the IP address to me? Christopher G. Hoogendyk (talk) 17:33, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No, Chris.Hoogendyk. You were logged out so other people could have used that IP address. There is no way to verify 100% that the edits were made by you. Cullen328 (talk) 17:42, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
