April 23[edit]

Ref number 34 SHOULD go directly to page 371 (as it says) - but it does not. Please fix if you have the time. Thanks 49.198.41.28 (talk) 04:14, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

{{Episode table}} custom parameter[edit]

Teahouse might not have been the appropriate venue, so I'm taking this here. I would like to add a custom "Length (minutes)" parameter to the {{Episode table}} / {{Episode list}} templates at Salad Fingers#Episodes. I understand that you can add custom parameters with "aux" and "auxT", but I can't seem to get it to work properly. Whenever I try, the custom parameter either replaces an existing one or doesn't show up at all. Would be greatly appreciated if anyone could advise. Throast (talk | contribs) 12:52, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Throast. I think you're on the right track with aux and auxT, and maybe the behavior you've described will continue happening until you populate the data in at least one row of the Episode list template. Here's how the code should begin, I think:
{{Episode table |overall= |title= |airdate= |aux1= |aux1T=Length (minutes) |episodes= {{Episode list | EpisodeNumber = 1 | Title = Spoons | OriginalAirDate = {{Start date|2004|07|01|df=dmy}} | Aux1 = 1:51 | ShortSummary        = Salad Fingers explains how touching rust stimulates him, and that he holds a particular love of spoons. He asks a boy to see if he has any rusty spoons. The child responds in screeches, at which point Salad Fingers leaves. }} }}
Which renders as:
No.TitleLength (minutes)Original air date
1"Spoons"1:511 July 2004 (2004-07-01)
Salad Fingers explains how touching rust stimulates him, and that he holds a particular love of spoons. He asks a boy to see if he has any rusty spoons. The child responds in screeches, at which point Salad Fingers leaves.

I checked. It is advertising. Wikipedia is not a platform for advertising. AndyTheGrump (talk) 14:16, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Athiselva Had I not deleted it as advertising, I would say that it lacked the appropriate information to allow you to submit the draft for review. This information is provided if you use Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft. Advertising is not permitted on Wikipedia. If you are associated with this app, please review WP:COI and WP:PAID for information on required formal disclosures(I've also posted this on your user talk page). "Significant coverage" does not include the mere reporting of business activites related to the app, interviews, or any primary sources. We want to know what others completely unconnected with the app have to say about it in terms of its importance. 331dot (talk) 14:21, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Question about setting up a page for a news organization[edit]

Hi, I am new to setting up pages and wanted to inquire what steps the community recommends for doing so?

For context, here is the main landing page: www.pridenation.io.

Additional info can be found about the news org here:

The account has been unblocked, and Ryanastarzyk has declared a COI. (Amended 14:03, 24 April 2022 (UTC))Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 18:12, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Tenryuu and of course that alternate account name @Drryanstarzyk matches all of the links that are supposed to provide "additional info". I predict that site would hold all of the purported references, which is probably why @Theroadislong asked for the COI note. 73.127.147.187 (talk) 10:25, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Adding music singles and albums on Wikipedia[edit]

How can I upload music on wikipedia — Preceding unsigned comment added by 105.160.25.236 (talk) 15:21, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If you own the copyright because you wrote the music AND you are the performer, or you have purchased the copyright and have a written conveyance of the copyright, then you can upload a music file. Owning a copy of the work (e.g., a record, DVD, or mp3 file) does not make you the owner of the copyright. You can also upload a music file if the music is in the public domain because it was recorded before the year 1926, or if the copyright owner has explicitly licensed the work under a compatible free copyright license. Otherwise, do not upload the file, because you will be causing unnecessary work for the volunteers who will delete it. To upload, use the Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard, Just as you would for an image. In the highly unlikely event that you have a free-use justification to upload a non-free copyrighted file, then come back here and we can help you with that. -Arch dude (talk) 15:55, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I can think of very few reasons why anyone would want to upload a single, let alone an album, to Wikipedia. Has the IP mistaken us for a music pirating forum or something? And if not, perhaps an explanation is needed. Or maybe they are asking about adding an article on a single or an album? AndyTheGrump (talk) 18:29, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
For fair use music samples, the maximum length is 20-30 seconds, and even then the purists insist that the sample is discussed in the article and is not simply decorative.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 19:19, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Want all 4 pictures in Gallery same size[edit]

I added a Gallery of pictures to Thomas Hall (inventor), but the fourth picture is larger than the other three. If it could be reduced somehow by about 70% it would be about the same size as the others. I tried all kinds of things and could not manage that. Is there a graphic expert out there that can reduce this larger image to be somewhat about the same size as the others? Then I think the appearance would look good. Thanks.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 20:10, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Doug Coldwell, Hi there -- I think one of the reasons the fourth one is bigger is that all the images are set up to be the same width (I guess by default, not certain) but the aspect ratio of the fourth image is different and so it's showing up as taller. Here is the documentation page for the Gallery tag, you can probably adjust heights somewhat if you want to make that picture smaller but I actually think it looks fine as-is. Jessamyn (my talk page) 20:16, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think this can be fixed, because "Compound electrotome with clockwork" has a different aspect ratio from the other images. I've reduced the sizes to 150px, otherwise the gallery is taking up a lot of space. The interested reader can click on the desired image for the full size version.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 20:20, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for help. I do believe the images look better at this reduced size. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 20:28, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How does a page override the edit screen?[edit]

When this page is edited, instead of the normal edit box, there is a box for the description and a box for the subscribers. How does this overriding of the standard edit screen work? I.hate.spam.mail.here (talk | contributions) 21:08, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The page is a MassMessage delivery list, which is a completely different type of page (in the technical jargon, has a different content model) from standard Wikitext pages like this one. * Pppery * it has begun... 21:23, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Pppery: I just noticed that the content model was "MassMessageListContent" instead of "wikitext". Thanks for explaining! I.hate.spam.mail.here (talk | contributions) 22:38, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Administrators (or, technically, anyone with the editcontentmodel right) can edit a page's content model via Special:ChangeContentModel. Victor Schmidt (talk) 21:57, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Template editors have the right as well. * Pppery * it has begun... 22:31, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the information! I.hate.spam.mail.here (talk | contributions) 22:38, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"Page information" shows the content model. Users with the right also have a "change" link. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:32, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
