Assault Pistol - page[edit]

Never created a wikipedia page before, I have great knowledge on the technical specs in all aspects of firearms,I no longer study or do gunsmithing, just a red seal carpenter now, but have a vast knowledge in them, as well as tracking and hunting which I do not do anymore either, going to teach me about that to?

I thought wiki wanted facts? I found the page blank with a forwarding link. The Beretta Px4 is a pistol adding a shoulder stock and a high a capacity magazine makes a Beretta Cx4 assault pistol not a carbine. A carbine is a short barrelled rifle that is chambered for rifle rounds or a rifle short or long barreled chambered for hot pistol rounds aka carbine loads. The Beretta Cx4 is designed for standard pistol rounds not hot rounds, therefor is is not a carbine but a semi-automatic assault pistol.

Now I get crapped on for trying to correct something, then some tool says go play in the sand box, threaten to be banned from something I never joined, but sent money to in the past? I now know I wasted my money and you are likely never to get another dime.

Then why not just lock certain pages from editing? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.49.5.100 (talk) 01:42, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Donations have nothing to do with editing the encyclopedia, and any donations you made are not linked to your account. Discuss the changes you want to make at the article's talk page. RudolfRed (talk) 01:49, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No editor here is permitted to write an article entirely based on their own beliefs and experiences. The content you used to replace the redirect lacked any citation of reliable sources and was clearly based entirely on your own opinions and knowledge. This is called original research and is not permitted here. General Ization Talk 01:57, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The final warning you received pertained to your edits at Beretta Cx4 Storm, which you persistently reasserted even after being reverted by another editor. It was not the result of your edits at Assault pistol, although those edits were also reverted for the reason I explained above. General Ization Talk 02:04, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The sandbox post said: "If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox". The blue text sandbox is a link. Sandbox (software development) is a standard term in computing. It's not demeaning if that's what you think. I'm an administrator here and have several sandboxes. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:09, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there! Creating a new article is one of the hardest things to do on Wikipedia. Just as it takes lots of shooting practice before you can hit a bullseye regularly, it takes lots of editing practice before you can be successful with a new article. There is a lot of good information at Help:Introduction, Wikipedia:The_Wikipedia_Adventure, and Help:Your first article. Hope this helps, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 02:12, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please read On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog. Your claims of expertise mean nothing here. What matters is your ability to neutrally summarize what reliable published sources say about a topic. "I am a brain surgeon. I am a rocket scientist. I have a PhD in Ancient Egyptian archeology. I am an expert in primate skulls. I know who killed Jimmy Hoffa!" Nobody cares. We care only about your ability to summarize what published reliable sources say, and nothing else. Nothing other than that. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:23, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

My first draft, what should i do next?[edit]

Hello, i just finished my article, it is saved as a draft and i can see it. Now i can't find any button or a way to send my draft to editors for publishing... what should i do?

Another question: How long should i wait to hear back from editors? will they email me? or will they send me a message via my wikipedia account? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amirabbasj (talkcontribs) 07:28, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You mean Draft:Tellor (Blockchain), Amirabbasj? If so, the first thing to do would be to comment, in Draft talk:Tellor (Blockchain), on Theroadislong's suggestion that this draft was written for payment. Then you follow the other suggestions. When you think the draft is good enough to be an article, you can submit it for consideration as an article; it will be rejected (which means "Stop"), declined (which means "Keep on working at it"), or accepted. You'll learn of the result from a message on User talk:Amirabbasj. -- Hoary (talk) 07:44, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You need to read Wikipedia's definition of notability. You will need to demonstrate significant coverage in multiple published reliable sources independent of the subject. --David Biddulph (talk) 07:47, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank for your answer Hoary, i can see Theroadislong's comment. But i cant find a way to reply. how can i do that? (Sorry for my basic question. im very new to wikipedia and don't really know how it works) Amirabbasj (talk) 09:32, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hoary gave you a link to Draft talk:Tellor (Blockchain). Type in there, and sign your comments. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:35, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

lokiOttawa[edit]

Dear usedtobecool You answered my questions from your help page as a sponsor I'm guessing and I don't know how to reply to you directly. I would like my fiancé's name Stan Shaffer left in not deleted! He is my late fiancé. (BLP violation removed) had ALL my past stolen including newspaper clippings, magazine articles and books I am in etc. I am told to make my page accurate, which it is not right now, to do another interview with an accredited journalist. Also I can send you my version of my life with the right timelines and updates. For example if you get a copy of Stan Shaffer's book on, say ebay, you will find that I edited it [ just the pictures] and am in it and it mentions all sorts of influential people in my life like Andy Warhol. Look up Louise Robey music and my "Anthology 1979-2009" is included. All this I want added please. There is so much more so what is the best way to proceed? Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by LokiOttawa (talkcontribs) 10:32, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

LokiOttawa, wikipedia doesn't particularly mind what you say about yourself, it cares about secondary sources, and what they mention about you. If you edited a book, then we can't confirm the information is reliable. You should also not edit a page you have a conflict of interest in, specifically about yourself, you should instead comment on the talk page on the article. Seeing total number of edits on an article[edit]

Is there a way to see the total number of edits on any given article? Greg Dahlen (talk) 12:51, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Greg Dahlen, on any article you can click the "View history" tab, then click on "Page statistics". That will bring you to an XTools page with the total edits and other interesting statistics about the article. DanCherek (talk) 12:57, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Greg Dahlen: Alternativley click on "Page information" in the tools section of the left hand toolbar, and scroll down to the section "Edit History". 192.76.8.74 (talk) 22:58, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Translation[edit]

Why do articles in wikipedia.en appear automatically in Norwegian om my machine (not so on my mobile!? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kåefff (talkcontribs) 13:17, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Kåefff: If you see Norwegian here at https://en.wikipedia.org then your browser probably makes machine translation, maybe with Google Toolbar. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:51, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Help with EasyTimeline[edit]

Only have basic knowledge of the EasyTimeline format. Is there a way to move the legend portion of this timeline further to the right to avoid obscuring the information there? SuperWIKI (talk) 14:12, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@SuperWIKI: There may be a "correct" way to do this, but for now, just extend the timeline to 2020 (or maybe 2030?). This seems to have worked for your second timeline. -Arch dude (talk) 14:28, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Arch dude: Until someone can find a proper solution, this'll do for now. Thanks! SuperWIKI (talk) 14:33, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Noticeboard for WP:SOAP?[edit]

The Palestine Solidarity Campaign page has a number of problems, primarily that almost all of it's sources are a it's own website or electronic intifada which has been deemed unreliable.

I know of the existence of the Fringe Theories and NPOV noticeboards. But is there a noticeboard for WP:SOAP, or some other noticeboard for pages with generic or multiple problems where I can reach out for some help fixing this page?

-- Bob drobbs (talk) 17:33, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I see you've tagged the article. That's a good start. You might consider looking for better sources, and if you want to confirm that some are unreliable, you can post at WP:RSN. If there are indeed unreliable, they can be removed and replaced with the citations needed template {{cn|date=}}. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 18:46, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Bob drobbs: You might also like to use the template {{Primary source inline|plural=yes}} which renders (after an existing possibly reliable primary source) as [non-primary sources needed] Mike Turnbull (talk) 21:10, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

question relating to an existing page in Dutch ('Hélène Passtoors)[edit]

Dear,

Wikipedia features a good page on "Hélène Passtoors" [1], and I feel that it is worth translating this page in English for a broader audience that may be interested. Given that the page already exists in one language, how does one go about to transpose it into English.

thanks for your assistance, Jan Vanheukelom

Template editors help needed[edit]

Hi everyone, I've recently found a number of infoboxes where {{Switcher}} has been used to show maps. But it has this absurd limitation, where you can't give individual pictures/ maps with an appropriate caption. I wish to use it somewhere, but I can't due to this limitation.

For example, let's look at the maps at France infobox. There's a caption reading, "Location of France (dark green)", but it makes no sense if the reader selects "Show map of French overseas territories", which uses red color to denote French territory.

Thanks! ---CX Zoom(he/him) (let's talk|contribs) 19:39, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@CX Zoom: I made {{Switcher}}. There is no such limitation. Just place what you want in the parameter. Below I changed [[File:France in the World (+Antarctica claims).svg|frameless]] to [[File:France in the World (+Antarctica claims).svg|thumb|none|French overseas territories in red]]. If you mean that you want to simultaneously change something before and after the radio buttons when a button is selected then it's not possible with the script (MediaWiki:Gadget-switcher.js) the template uses. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:30, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
French overseas territories in red
@PrimeHunter: Thank you very much for letting me know that adding captions is in fact possible. Now the problem remians purely aesthetic. I've never seen "thumbnail" pictures inside infoboxes, which is probably some unwritten WP rule. Also you can't add captions in "none" type, which (I believe) is the default picture type. Almost all infoboxes have a "map_caption=" parameter, it would be great if a similar parameter could be inbuilt into {{Switcher}} or integrate something like {{Pic}} in it, which will allow captions with no frame. Thanks! ---CX Zoom(he/him) (let's talk|contribs) 12:32, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You may want to see how they look, at User:CX Zoom/TestPage20. ---CX Zoom(he/him) (let's talk|contribs) 12:40, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@CX Zoom: As I said, just place what you want in the parameter. Below the "caption" is outside the image syntax and is just a line of text below the image. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:11, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Converting 18th century English pounds into today's American dollars + inflation[edit]

I'm in the middle of a GAN and need help converting 18th century English pounds into today's American dollars. The David Hall (printer) article says, Franklin sold the business to Hall for £18,000 (equivalent to £2,845,608 in 2019)) of which £1,000 (equivalent to £158,089 in 2019) was to be paid by Hall annually for 18 years to buy out Franklin's share of the business. The reviewer has requested, "£2,845,608" probably nearest £1000 and then convert to $ for your brethren. + Similar for the next inflated figure. Can a knowledgeable editor edit the article accordingly using the correct template(s). Thanks.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 20:11, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I may have solved the problem with £18,000 (1748) (equivalent to £2.69 million or US$3.43 million in 2019)[1]. Maybe a knowledgeable editor can look at that to see IF it has been done correctly. Thanks.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 10:13, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
