How to request to create a page for BLP Biography of a living person?

I'm assuming the IP is asking whether this case warrants a Wikipedia article. In general, we don't publish biographies of a person who is known only for a single incident, although in this instance it's possible that the case (as opposed to the person) was high-profile enough to warrant its own article. In general I'd advise against writing about this kind of thing until you're very experienced on Wikipedia; if you don't know exactly what you're doing it's very easy to break the laws around contempt and libel when writing about recent criminal cases. ‑ Iridescent 09:39, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

As you are using an IP, there is no way to know that the person sitting at your computer at any given moment has donated or seen the requests. As noted, you can suppress the messages if you create and use an account. 331dot (talk) 02:52, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

Dear Janel Dykstra, further to 331dot's accurate advice, note also that IP addresses are more often than not dynamic. The IP your computer (or other device) has today may not be the one it had yesterday, or will have tomorrow; moreover, some other computer or device might well have been, or in the future be, assigned that IP. Donations

I have a hard time donating when my information will be used by you and companies affiliated to you for other resons like advertising. As far as I know, donor information is not shared (I've never been contacted by anyone else asking for money). You can share your concerns by contacting donate (at) wikimedia.org RudolfRed (talk) 04:22, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

As a proof of this you can see immediately for yourself - if the Wikimedia Foundation had the data to sell, they could also stop showing donation banners to people who donate, which is one of the biggest causes of donor unhappiness. Nosebagbear (talk) 14:32, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

The FBI removed my personal page

Wikipedia and youtube are the only places I can post. My email was quarantined so zi posted a settlement demand on the page "Queen New York.". I am completely isolated from my family. "Edit appears to be not constructive"

Hi! I edited the page on "Bell Bottoms" by creating a section on recent revival. I thought because it was under the fashion that I should update it to reflect new trends. It was removed for not appearing constructive so please let me know if it was fine to edit. urumi page references edit

Strangely, IP editor, those virus articles are indeed relevant to the last section of the article, which discusses a naturally-occurring antiviral substance named after the urumi, called urumin:

"A peptide found in the mucus of a South Indian frog is named urumin. This name is inspired from the urumi, since urumin kills the H1N1 flu virus effectively." Now, whether that mention of frog mucus belongs in the article at all might be a question for the talk page.--Quisqualis (talk) 04:16, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Repetitive alerts

Not sure if this is the right place to be inquiring. Why am I getting the same alerts (at the Bell icon at the top of the page) over and again? After I read an alert, I click on the blue dot next to it, which, I'm assuming, cancels the notice out. There have been times where I have gotten the same alert that is more than a week old. Today I got two dated alerts for the third time. Could someone look into this and get the bugs out? Thanx. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 20:07, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

Is this on the mobile view? I've found it to be a bit temperamental sometimes. On desktop view, I've found that it's easier to dismiss all of the notifications, as clicking the per day one, or clicking to send to diff doesn't always mark as read.

I'm using a desktop computer, Firefox, Windows 10. Not sure what you mean by "clicking the per day one". As I said, when an alert comes in, there's a blue dot next to the given notice. By clicking on it the dot becomes blank, which I had always assumed marks the notice as read. A latest example would be a ping I received from user:Tenryuu which first occurred six days ago. Gwillhickers, Lee Vilenski, some time this month, I believe, the "mark all as read" link stopped functioning once I left the page. I now have to have at least 2 blue dots in order for it to work properly (one of which I often apply manually). (And forget about turning off one blue dot; that has been variably disabled for months in Firefox and Edge.) I have Win 10 and use Edge at the moment.---Quisqualis (talk) 04:06, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Oddly enough, I encountered this problem on a different site (Gamepedia) where attempting to mark one or all alerts as read would fail and I would constantly have "unread" notifications. It's been fixed since (probably since they updated their MediaWiki version) and I haven't experienced it on here. I'm not sure if this Phabricator task from a few years back (T140309) sounds similar to this situation. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 04:50, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi! Wikipedia doesn't use cookies (for various reasons) to denote different users, so has no idea who has/hasn't donated. If you dislike the prompt, perhaps create an account? You can then surpress all donation messages. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski ^{(talk • contribs)} 20:34, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

Incorrect thumbnail picture

In the cultural influence section of The Lady of Shalott there are links to three paintings by John William Waterhouse. Two of them (The Lady of Shalott (painting) and I Am Half-Sick of Shadows, Said the Lady of Shalott) display an image of the correct painting when I mouse over them, but the link to The Lady of Shalott Looking at Lancelot displays an image of The Lady of Shalott (painting) instead (and I notice it does so here as well). Is there a way to correct this? It's a minor point, I know, but these things Just Bug Me, and if some kind soul will point out what's going on, I can fix it myself in future. Thanks! @Wikignome Wintergreen: The image is chosen automatically. The feature can only choose an image from the lead section so an option here is to insert a section heading somewhere before the other images. Photo permissions

What is the best way to present permission to use a photo from the photographer?

You don't - Permission granted to you is worthless because you're not hosting the image, and permission granted to Wikipedia will usually be rejected out of hand. But you can, if you follow the correct process, which can be as simple as getting the photographer to e-mail the correct people at Wikipedia Commons while you do the actual upload (with the photographer's permission, of course). This "OTRS" system is described "here in their help files".. I have had considerable experience with this and you could contact me via my Talk page if you need detailed help, Jéské Couriano. The main issue (for the photographer) is that uploading material to Commons basically allows anyone in the world to use the image for any purpose, even commercial purposes.
