May 21[edit]

Hello, i need help getting started...[edit]

i want to create a page and i'm not sure how to began...if theres anyone willing to help i will do my best to listen and get it done...

Thank You for your time... Cheers — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shawnymartin (talkcontribs) 00:13, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Shawnymartin: Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. I would caution you that successfully creating a new article(not just "page") is probably the hardest task on Wikipedia. It takes much time and practice. New users who dive right in to article creation sometimes end up disappointed and with hurt feelings as their work that they spent hours on is mercilessly edited and even deleted by others. I don't want that to happen to you. New users are much more successful when they start smaller, by editing existing articles in areas that interest them, making small changes and working their way up to more substantive changes and eventually article creation. That's what I did and I think the process went much easier for me, as I got a feel for the process beforehand. I would recommend that you do something similar.
However, if you still want to attempt to create an article, I would recommend that you first read Your First Article, and then submit a draft using Articles for Creation so that you can get feedback on it before it is formally placed in the encyclopedia, instead of afterwards when it would be treated more critically. You may also(either way) find it helpful to use the new user tutorial. Whatever path you choose, good luck. 331dot (talk) 00:20, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@331dot: Thank You for your reply...is this something your able to help with? Just need to talk to someone whos been there and done that...lol... Cheers — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shawnymartin (talkcontribs) 00:31, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome to ask any other questions that you have; if I don't answer them right away, there are many knowledgeable editors here who will. 331dot (talk) 00:31, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Shawnymartin Check your talk page. I've posted some helps there that should help get you on your way to learning how to edit Wikipedia. Shearonink (talk) 00:35, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Shawnymartin. Something it is worth your doing early is to check whether the topic that you wish to write an article about is both suitable for Wikipedia and notable (in the way that Wikipedia uses the word). If it is not, then any further time you spend on trying will be wasted. Hundreds of articles and drafts get deleted every day, many of them because people have gone ahead and created them without doing this basic check. --ColinFine (talk) 10:54, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Trolling[edit]

Someone who doesn't like me went into the Laura Pedersen (writer) entry and changed the title of a category just so they could post one unflattering line from a very old small town paper review -- aka trolling rather than rounding out. Women in humor are subject to an enormous amount of misogyny (see Christopher Hitchens Vanity Fair story "Women Aren't Funny"). Yet I have been fortunate enough to be successful with reviews and awards after much hard work in the comedy world where men are gatekeepers and tastemakers. I respectfully request the line from The Williamette Week under RECEPTION be removed or else balanced out with some of the many positive reviews and awards regarding my work. There are many and the person who posted had to dig hard to find one that wasn't. 96.243.18.182 (talk) 01:06, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

We call this a "content dispute". Your view is that this one tiny review is being given undue weight (WP:UNDUE). Please discuss this on the article's talk page and try to get other editors involved there. See WP:DISPUTE if you and the other editor cannot resolve this. Please do not edit the article directly yourself: see WP:COI). Come back here if nothing is working for you on this. -Arch dude (talk) 01:28, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There is a big void of space in the Michael Middleton early life and education section. Please place the pics on the other Srbernadette (talk) 02:42, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not obvious to me: some image syntax was edited 24 hours ago but even before that there did not seem to be the situation you describe. Eagleash (talk) 03:00, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yet again; please do not start multiple threads with the same heading. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 03:03, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How to change username of my wikipedia account?[edit]

Hello wikipedia,

How to change the username of my wikipedia account?

Please help.

Thank you.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Gerard-Odonovan (talkcontribs)

Gerard-Odonovan WP:UNC is where the policy is. Global user account rename request is the location to request a namechange. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 11:56, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Er, you probably want Special:GlobalRenameRequest. Eman235/talk 12:15, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Old sandbox deletion[edit]

Hello! I moved an existing sandbox User:IMAU01423/sandbox/Piotr Popik (in agreement with the author) to the main Wikipedia space as the article Piotr Popik. Yet, on the old sandbox page there is now a redirect page. Should it be deleted? If yes, how to manage that? Francesco 13 (talk) 13:11, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It is fine to keep it there. --XTMontana (talk) 15:55, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have requested deletion. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:29, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for both answers! Francesco 13 (talk) 23:26, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Home video releases worldwide[edit]

Please check the Stowaways on the Ark and The Magic Voyage articles I've edited. In their "home video" section, I've put releases for a lot of territories. Is whatever I've put there necessary, or I need to only wirte about the better-known ones (UK, France etc.)??? NickBlamp (talk) 14:08, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Change page name[edit]

I need to change the name of the page for the golf course I work for. We have updated our name. Please let me know how to do that. Thanks.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Mkpolivka77 (talkcontribs)

Hello Mpolivka77. I take it this is about Evanston Wilmette Community Golf Course. I have undone most of your edits to that article because they were blatantly promotional. I have left a message on your talk page with links to our policies on conflict of interest and paid editing. Please read them, and please make the necessary disclosures on your user page. Please do not make any further edits to the article itself, instead, suggest your edits on the talk page so that people who do not have your COI can evaluate them and incorporate them into the article in a neutral manner. Meanwhile, I can move the article for you. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 19:18, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Question for a Checkuser[edit]

Been awhile (years) since my last post here. Anyways, I have recently complied evidence (both on and off-wiki) that a blocked undisclosed paid editor is ip-hopping to evade their block; all of the relevant IPs are geolocatable to the same area, and the subject edited is the same. Would any checkuser be willing to look at my findings and make a call? If so, ping me here and I will compile an email containing my evidence. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SamHolt6 (talkcontribs) 19:14, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You can make a formal request at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations. Ruslik_Zero 20:17, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Trouble reviewing DYK nomination[edit]

Hi! I've tried thousand times to review Template:Did you know nominations/WWE 24/7 Championship of May 21, 2019 and in the Edit Page, my review appears, but when I save the page, it doesn't appear. Help? I want to help the article's nominator. Thank you. --LLcentury (talk) 21:30, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

LLcentury, I just tried it and it worked for me. Do you get any sort of error message when you click the "Publish changes" button? ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 13:48, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ONUnicorn, Hi! yes! I keep saving the edit and though it appears on the edit page, it doesn't save it 'cause it's not visible. No error reported whatsoever as far as I am concerned and observed. Kind regards. --LLcentury (talk) 18:09, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Specifically, one for Poul Anderson's novella "Flight to the Future". I'd do it myself, but I haven't fully read the story because science fiction usually isn't my preferred genre, so I'd like to request someone who is interested to undertake this challenge.--Thylacine24 (talk) 23:06, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thylacine24, you could add it to Requested articles. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 13:50, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to be replying so late, my computer's been on the fritz and I tend to procrastinate and forget about things a lot. Anyway, I'd like to make it clear that I'm not requesting an article, but a section of a page.--Thylacine24 (talk) 23:04, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Generating Wikitable from Excel Spreadsheet[edit]

I hope that this is an easy question. Is there a quick and painless way to create a wikitable from an Excel spreadsheet? For instance, is there an Excel macro that I can use to facilitate the process? Maybe this is described simply. If so, please point me to it, but I didn't find it on a relatively brief search. Robert McClenon (talk) 23:12, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Robert McClenon, I searched for WP:Tables which found Help:Tables. Then I did a search on that page for the word Excel which brought me to Help:Table#Converting spreadsheets and database tables to wikitable format. †dismas†|(talk) 23:33, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
User:Dismas - Thanks. Robert McClenon (talk) 23:56, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
