Submitting a 7-in-1 DYK hook

Apparently somewhere I screwed up! I am trying to submit a 7-in-1 DYK hook, but apparently didn't do the last couple of steps correctly. Can someone add the Template I made to the August 16 DYK submission list. I can NOT figure out how to do that step. As you can see from my contributions I made the Template, but then got lost in the next step. I have forgot how to submit to August 16, as it has been awhile since my last DYK. Ambrose!

I have a letter dated early 60's that I kissed ambrose from the band The Leaves. They were in San Francisco. When i looked them up, i found no name of Ambrose! Have you tried Wikipedia's Reference Desk? They specialize in knowledge questions and will try to answer just about any question in the universe (except how to use Wikipedia, since that is what this Help Desk is for). Redonda Stamps- Whence?

I recently discovered some attractive stamps from Redonda- but no listing in Scott catalogue. Given your interesting description of an uninhabited island, I must wonder where they came from and by whom! Any advice appreciated! Bruce davidson

Odd Seach Result

A search for "asencio" seems to yield only the artist. However, the composer Vicente Asencio is in Wikipedia and comes up when the complete name is used. ?????

My talk page

Any idea what is wrong with my talk page, User talk:CambridgeBayWeather? When I open it all I get is an empty page. I can open a section and edit that, including changing my preferences and getting at the first section. I had assumed that it was something to do with the size so I had one of the bots archive it. The page works for me. Did you clear the entire cache? Which skin and browser do you have? Is the url http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:CambridgeBayWeather&action=edit when you edit the whole page? Just found the problem. I am using either Firefox or Chrome on Ubuntu and both give me the blank page. The first link PrimeHunter gave was the one I was using to edit the page but the second didn't work either. THe bypass page I had checked and made sure that I followed the instructions. After I checked in Chrome and I found that my sockpuppet could edit the page I started wondering what the difference between the two accounts was. It turns out that using User:Cacycle/wikEd is the culprit. Turned it off and I can edit the page. Of course why just my talk page is weird, though I remember it happening on a template page once before, so I'll go ask over there. Thanks for the assistance. Why is a template and sig not showing on an article talk page?

I just closed an edit request at Talk:Regular Show with {{ESp|xy}} and my signature. However, it doesn't show up on the talk page and when I open the editing interface, I see the text as {{ESp|xy}} ~~~~. FloBo A boat that can float! (watch me float!) 06:37, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

There was a hidden comment that wasn't closed. I accidentally hit save instead of preview when I was checking to see if that was it, so it made it my signature and I've replaced it with yours. - Purplewowies (talk) 06:52, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

Is this a reliable source?

I want to write an article about shipping for Wikipedia and have text from a well-respected shipping newspaper (published all over the world) which I can use to verify statements. As this newspaper is only available online by prescription, meaning you need a password to read it, Wikipedia editors will not be able to check this source unless they are subscribers. Obtaining images for Death of Tia Sharp

There are many images on the web relating to this case. Is it likely that any of them would be usable in WP? What's the best way to go about searching? If you can't find a free image, then you can upload a non-free image from the web, but it must fulfill the requiremented listed at WP:NFCC. For example, you must provide a good rationale and the image must be of lower quality. Regards.--Kürbis (✔) 13:54, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

How do I license two Wikipedia images with my own image.

Hi, I am new to downloading images. Want to download two images: File: Schloss Ortenberg im mai 2008.jpg {Public Domain License}. and File: Field of flowers in taiwan.jpg {cc by 2.0 License}.I am combining the two Wikipedia images with my own original image. Original research/computer example

Other programming related articles use code examples as illustrations (see Pascal (programming language) for example) and I don't think it counts as original research. It's more akin to taking a photo and adding it to an article in my opinion. Lineslarge (talk) 20:44, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

How to create an external link to a wikipedia page and section?

I would like to create a URL link to a specific wikipedia article and section within that article. I have a wikipedia account but am not really familiar with editing or adding content. I would like to use this mechanism to send the URL to someone via email so they can go directly to the section of the article to which I am referring. I have seen other people/sites be able to do this, but I am unable to find a guide explaining how to do this. It seems that the page needs to have certain tag marks to support this, but I can't figure out much of the rest.

Also, as a related questions, if a page does not have these certain tags to support this, I would like to know hwo to add them so that if I ever ant to link to a section that does not support it, I can add the ability to do so and then send the link. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Allanonmage (talk • contribs) 15:17, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

One way to do it is to click on the name of the relevant section in the article's table of contents and then just copy/paste the URL from your browser's address bar. Deor (talk) 15:51, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

As noted, clicking on the table of contents should work. Generally speaking, if an article has more than 2 or 3 sections, it will have a Table of Contents. If it is shorter, there's not easy way that I know of to find a specific section, but it is generally not needed in such a short article. (There are some exceptions, longer articles where the TOC is suppressed, but those are rare.)--SPhilbrick(Talk) 16:08, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

Link added but name needs to appear instead of number assigned.

On Jump Up! entry I added a link to Air Studios Montserrat. The link is active but the name does not appear just the number "1". This is my very 1st edit on Wikipedia. I would like the link to be correct so that it will stay. I got into this because of the Elton John bassist suicide in the media today. I was concerned who died because during the recording of Jump Up at Air Studios Montserrat I babysat Davy Johnstone's and Nigel Olsson's children. Everyone was wonderful to work for and the children were delightful. The volcano on Montserrat blew in 1995 and 2/3 of the island population had to flee (thanks Wikipedia for that entry!). By chance, a regular middle class American girl was blessed to experience an incredible time in a gorgeous place with amazingly nice and super talented people. So, the link would be appreciated. Air Studio Montserrat gave me and many musicians fond memories. I think Elton John even married a woman from the Caribbean at the time. Nigel Olsson's wife (she and her husbands 2 different accents were adorable!) wished I could tour Asia with them but I had to go back to school. Then, I think their hotel room got robbed soon after that while on tour. I remember being glad that I wasn't there for that! Well, thanks for reading and your help will be appreciated! Repeating items on the Help Desk

A little while ago I put a question on the HD, which got no responses, and eventually rolled off into the archives.

Fair enough, these things happen. What I want to know is: is it okay for me to put the same question up every now and then (say, once a month) in the hopes that new people will see it and be able to help? Would this be considered spamming?Ordinary Person (talk) 15:57, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

I see you asked a question, Wikipedia:Help_desk/Archives/2012_August_9#Ranks in Tables that was not answered. I have never seen a way for anything in tables to be automatically updated. I think if add in a new row you will have to update everything manually. GB fan 16:52, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

I remember that question. I started to look into it, thinking it would be easy, then got distracted, and didn't follow up. I, for one, see nothing wrong with posting the same question over and over again, if you don't get a reply. The only thing to note is not to do it too frequently. Once per hour or once per day is far too frequently. Once per month or once per a couple of months shouldn't be a problem. JIP | Talk 20:04, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

Cannot login

I cannot login and I seem to get the result that I have never posted anything. My handle was YouRang and I recently tried to update my account to realize that I have a new email address. At that time it said I had had over 50 posts. But nothing shows up anymore. Another way to assist - responding to article feedback

You may have noticed a new link at the top of your watchlist ("Feedback from my watched pages"). I have just reviewed some of the feedback on my watched articles and most of it was constructive and easily resolved by pointing users to relevant help pages, the reference desk etc or by minor edits to articles. ROM 5:12 should be moved to Rom 5:12, but the page already exists

The page for the Marduk album Rom 5:12, was created as ROM 5:12 in 2007. In 2008, someone created the page Rom 5:12, which later was changed to a redirect to ROM 5:12. I believe ROM 5:12 should be moved to Rom 5:12, as that is the name of the record, and ROM 5:12 should redirect to Rom 5:12. I can not do this as a normal user, as far as I know.

Paul Ryan

It appears that the talk history on Paul Ryan does not mention the disappearance of the brown noser reference. On Saturday, there was a mention that his high school classmates had voted him Biggest Brownnoser.
