Giuliani- Dinkins[edit]

Hello WikiDan61- looks like you have been around a while and since you took interest in this matter I will see if you can help me get this matter cleared up. The primary problem is there are the same few lines inserted into NUMEROUS Wikipedia pages that are factually incorrect, in fact the polar opposite of the truth. The sources cited are non-existent links, and dinkins own autobiography, which under Wikipedia rules cannot be the primary source. Here is the main line: "Under Dinkins' Safe Streets, Safe Cities program, crime in New York City decreased more dramatically and more rapidly, both in terms of actual numbers and percentage, than at any time in modern New York City history." Now the question I have for you is this- do we care about facts at Wikipedia or not? Fact is this: the 4 years of Dinkins mayoralty were the 4 HIGHEST murder totals in the cities history. I have cited numerous RS of the day showing these were by far the 4 bloodiest years in NYC history. The above statement that dinkins lowered crime more than anyone else in history is an embarrassment to Wikipedia only made worse by how many times it is repeated, multiple times in some articles. How did we get here? 3 years ago, Dinkins published his autobiography. Self-aggrandizement might be too light a term. In his book he took full credit for turning NYC around from the crime ravaged city it once was to as the FBI calls it today the safest large city in America. There are no other RS or facts to back that up. The NYC medical examiner recorded over 2000 murders only 4 times in NYC history, 1990,1991,1992 and 1993. The EXACT 4 years Dinkins was mayor. And yet Dinkins lowered crime more than anyone in history? Immediately after dinkins published his autobiography in OCT 2013, a user named pk800 started inserting these bogus claims into numerous Wikipedia pages, without consensus, without any RS only dinkins autobiography. They were reverted numerous times but he kept reverting back until the others got tired of it and quit. He was threatened with sanctions and told to stop but continued. Sounds like the author himself or a close associate. Is that how Wikipedia is supposed to work? Now my piece on Giuliani is properly sourced and factual. PK800s is not properly sourced and opposite of the truth factually. Also where is balance? Almost the entire Giuliani article is negative against Giuliani, again not in line with Wikipedia standards. I went to the talk page and only got positive response for my actions. Also, these reverters malikshabazz and bbb23 do not adhere to the top pillars of Wikipedia they use foul language, never assume good faith, always revert and NEVER argue a single fact because there is no factual basis for their side of this. Look forward to working with you on this.Aceruss (talk) 23:08, 3 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Aceruss: The problem that I perceive is that you are trying to use various sources (reliable or otherwise) that note a drop in crime statistics during the time of Giuliani's mayoralty to conclude that Giuliani was responsible for that drop in crime, whereas the sources do not state that. You are also removing material that is sourced. (If the link is dead, it can be updated using the internet archive.) You may have a point; PK800 may have inserted material inappropriately. But your edits have been repeatedly reverted, and you are in danger of entering into an edit war again, a behavior that has previously gotten you blocked. Since you have a content dispute, you need to take your discussion to the talk pages of the involved articles. Contacting me here will not resolve the issue. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!!

23:14, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

1) I did go to talk pages and got only positive response. 2) Correct, stats show large drop in crime during Giulianis term and record crime during Dinkins term. You are questioning giving Giuliani credit, that's one thing, but how can anyone possibly give Dinkins credit? (except dinkins?) How would you suggest correcting this falsehood from NUMEROUS Wikipedia pages that pk800 put in inappropriately "Under Dinkins' Safe Streets, Safe Cities program, crime in New York City decreased more dramatically and more rapidly, both in terms of actual numbers and percentage, than at any time in modern New York City history."Aceruss (talk) 23:29, 3 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Francois Zgheib Fournier[edit]

Hi Dan61,

My name is Francois Zgheib Fournier. I was asked by the Lebanese national rugby team (a team I play for) to go in and edit my wikipedia page. I added some sources and was just wondering if my page will still be deleted?

thanks,

Frank

@Fzfournier: As I pointed out on your user talk page, Wikipedia strongly discourages people from writing articles about themselves. In this case, as a member of the Lebanon National Rugby Team, you probably merit inclusion, but you'll need better sources. The two you've provided are the website of the team itself (not an independent source) and a Wikipedia article (which are actually disallowed as article citations due to the inherent unreliability of Wikipedia pages that can be edited by anyone). WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:11, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What about now? Ill have them add pictures and all that as it seems im not allowed to choose my own picture as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fzounier (talkcontribs)

@Fzounier: The deletion tag has been removed. We'll have to work on formatting your citations better. For future reference, when continuing a conversation on a talk page, do not delete your prior comments to add new ones, just add your latest comments at the end of the discussion. This makes the whole thing much more readable. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 22:11, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"oud" or "ʿŪD"[edit]

About changing ʿŪD to oud. You write in your revision that "the proper english name is 'oud'"; two specialized encycopedias, the New Grove (Poché, Christian : “ꜤŪd”, Grove Music Online |2001| p. 25–31) and the Ecyclopedia of Islam (Chabrier, Jean-Claude Ch., A. Dietrich, Clifford Edmund Bosworth and Henry George Farmer : “ʿŪd: Encyclopaedia of Islam, Second Edition : Brill Online”, editors Peari Bearman, Th. Bianquis, C. E. Bosworth, et al., [Print Version: Volume X, page 767, column 2] |2000| [url: http://www.brillonline.nl/]) use the transliterated version in all the article. What is the policy of wikipedia on the matter? Muhaqqeq (talk) 06:00, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Muhaqqeq: Per the Wikipedia Manual of Style (specifically the section on romanization of foreign words), the policy is to use the most common English variant, if there is one. The fact that most English sources use the word oud, and only a select few use `ūd, the policy would be to use oud unless quoting a specific work that used the alternative spelling. xat[edit]

Hi Dan,

I'd like an answer on the delete nomination concerning the wikipedia page xat. I've provided a couple of links referencing the website, and hopefully they'll do. Thanks. --Tanner708 (talk) 00:01, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Tanner708: Answered. Note, these are just my opinions. Others' views may differ, which is why we have an AFD process. At the moment, you and I are the only substantive participants in the discussion, and if things remain that way, the AFD will be closed as "no consensus". I'm not ready to withdraw my nomination, for the reasons stated at the AFD. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 00:30, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Roblox: Gods of Olympus[edit]

Welp..Hi Im Edd_e one of my members created the page Roblox:Gods Of Olympus could I get a quick summary of why my group isn't considered "notable" it has 800+ people in it and is widely popular among the Roblox community, thus I see no reason for it to be considered "not notable". Please inform me of anything that i need to read or sort through being im new to this whole wiki thing — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.247.80.6 (talk) 16:18, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@162.247.80.6: The Roblox community presently consists of over thirty million monthly users; your group of 800 seems to be a small minority of that population. What is needed to demonstrate the notability of your group can be found at WP:ORG and WP:GNG. Basically, you need to demonstrate that your group has been the topic of independent coverage in either a book, magazine, or a major website (one that would exercise the same type of editorial review process as a published magazine, not your friend's blog). Few if any Roblox groups would meet these criteria. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:27, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@162.247.80.6: By the way, I find your comment at Talk:Roblox: Gods Of Olympus rather disingenuous. There you mention that the information in the article "allowed [you] to the rank of god", but here you claim to be Edd_e, the owner of the GoO group (and thus, presumably able to reach the rank of god without needing the information on Wikipedia for help). That kind of comment is dishonest, and for no good cause: whether the page is beneficial to any particular member of the GoO group is irrelevant. Wikipedia is not a free webhosting service for you to post your game guide. Find another outlet. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:34, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

NPR[edit]

Please revisit Joseph flame and tag it properly. And then review the instructions again at WP:NPP. Thanks. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 17:39, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Kudpung: Could you be a bit more specific about the improper tagging? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:50, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
New Page Reviewers are expected to be able to recognise a blatant hoax ;) Unless of course I'm barking up the wrong bible. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 17:53, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Kudpung: I disagree that this is a blatant hoax. I feel that the page offers a credible story that may or may not be true, but for which I could certainly find no verification. If you disagree, feel free to tag it as you see fit. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:01, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The whole thing about hoaxes is that the clever ones are written to like like genuine stories. If you had done all he cheks, you would have known within 20 seconds all there is to know about the 'real' Joseph Flame. I gave you a clue above, but that didn't catch either. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 19:37, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Kudpung: What checks would you have me perform? A blatant hoax is one that is verifiably false on its face. A statement such as "John Flame is the president of the United States" is demonstrably false because I can search to find a list of all presidents of the United States. A statement such as "John Flame jumped over the moon" is demonstrably false because we can all agree on the laws of physics. What source would you have me check to verify that there was not an arsonist who called himself John Flame in the 1970s. Although I cannot verify that the story is true, I cannot either demonstrate that the story is false, so I cannot call it a blatant hoax. The fact that a Google search for the name "Joseph Flame" turns up other results does not rule out the veracity of the arsonist story. Again, if you disagree with my conclusion, you are free to act on your own. But I do not like your implication that I am somehow shirking my duty or acting in bad faith by not calling this a hoax. I'm not sure why you feel the need to give me "clues" rather than just telling me what it is you feel you need me to know. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:58, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@CatcherStorm: I recognize that. New Page Review - newsletter No.2[edit]

Hello WikiDan61,
A HUGE backlog

We now have 816 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election[edit]

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

@0wl: I'm not an administrator and cannot delete anything. However, you don't appear to have any contributions to delete. Your only extant contributions are your own sandbox and some comments at various talk pages. There is no need to delete your contributions to make a "fresh start". Nothing you've done is so troublesome as to require that. You've struggled a bit to start, but you'll figure it all out eventually! WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:29, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Centro de Congressos da Alfândega do Porto requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.ccalfandegaporto.com/pt/sobre-nos. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Guild of Copy Editors February 2017 News[edit]

Guild of Copy Editors February 2017 News

Hello everyone, and welcome to the February 2017 GOCE newsletter. The Guild has been busy since the last time your coordinators sent out a newsletter!

December blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 11 through 17 December; the themes were Requests and eliminating the November 2015 backlog. Of the 14 editors who signed up, nine editors completed 29 articles. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all who took part.

January drive: The January drive was a great success. We set out to remove December 2015 and January and February 2016 from our backlog (195 articles), and by 22 January we had cleared those and had to add a third month (March 2016). At the end of the month we had almost cleared out that last month as well, for a total of 180 old articles removed from the backlog! We reduced our overall backlog by 337 articles, to a low of 1,465 articles, our second-lowest month-end total ever. We also handled all of the remaining requests from December 2016. Officially, 19 editors recorded 337 copy edits (over 679,000 words).

February blitz: The one-week February blitz, focusing on the remaining March 2016 backlog and January 2017 requests, ran from 12 to 18 February. Seven editors reduced the total in those two backlog segments from 32 to 10 articles, leaving us in good shape going in to the March drive.

Coordinator elections for the first half of 2017: In December, coordinators for the first half of 2017 were elected. Jonesey95 stepped aside as lead coordinator, remaining as coordinator and allowing Miniapolis to be the lead, and Tdslk and Corinne returned as coordinators. Thanks to all who participated!

Speaking of coordinators, congratulations to Jonesey95 on their well-deserved induction into the Guild of Copy Editors Hall of Fame. The plaque reads: "For dedicated service as lead coordinator (2014, 1 July – 31 December 2015 and all of 2016) and coordinator (1 January – 30 June 2015 and 1 January – 30 June 2017); exceptional template-creation work (considerably streamlining project administration), and their emphasis on keeping the GOCE a drama-free zone."

Housekeeping note: We do not send a newsletter before every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your watchlist.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Miniapolis, Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdslk.

To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

New Page Review - newsletter No.3[edit]

Hello WikiDan61,

Voting for coordinators has now begun HERE and will continue through/to 23:59 UTC Monday 06 March. Please be sure to vote. Any registered, confirmed editor can vote. Nominations are now closed.

Still a MASSIVE backlog

We now have 816 New Page Reviewers but despite numerous appeals for help, the backlog has NOT been significantly reduced.
If you asked for the New Page Reviewer right, please consider investing a bit of time - every little helps preventing spam and trash entering the mainspace and Google when the 'NO_INDEX' tags expire.

Page control[edit]

Hi,

A non employee of our company, Austin Macauley Publishers, has taken control of our page. They requested control after they continued to defamatory and misleading statements about the business which we removed as page vandalism.

The company itself is actually benefiting financially from the defamatory comments as they offer a similar service. They should never have been given control of our page. How can this be resolved please, as I'm in part shock that you've allowed a competitor to take control of our page. SammiAM16 (talk) 09:32, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey -- would you mind checking out the discussion on my talk page about David S. Cohen (attorney)? A few months ago, you had restored significant edits that I made to the page after someone deleted them. Another editor seems to be taking issue with those edits, and I'm not quite sure why. Thanks!

@Bda24: This is a simple content dispute. You should discuss the issue with the other editor at Talk:David S. Cohen (attorney). I do not have the bandwidth at this time to weigh in on the matter except to say that both versions are fine, although the shorter version preferred by LavaBaron is more concise and less "chatty". I copy here the translation to English: 05 APRIL 2017 - 20 APRIL 2017 Bratislava, Austrian Cultural Forum, Hodžovo nám. 1 / A exhibition ART LINKS TO MY NEAR DEATH SINGULARITY Vernisage: 5 April 2017, 18.00 The artistic project ART LINKS TO MY NEAR DEATH SINGULARITY, curated by Teresa de Marco, is conceived as a "homage to artworks resembling my vision while bleeding out postpartum" / "tribute to works of art that share with me the vision that I have experienced during the bleeding after the Was born. " The project was first presented to the public in 2013, initially on the Internet. In 2014 the curator presented it in the Museumsquartier Q21 MuseumsQuartier Wien as part of an "Immersive Projection", which refers to the Ghent altar in the St. Bavo Cathedral. Further exhibitions and events followed in 2015 in Paris and Berlin as part of the "Women's Views Biennal". For the exhibition in the Österreichische Kulturforum, works by Austrian artists such as Christoph Steffner, the collective BLESS (founded by the Austrian designer Desiree Heiss), etc., were selected. The majority of the works use the classical expressive media of visual art, especially drawing, photography and video. For the exhibition in the Österreichische Kulturforum, works by Austrian artists such as Edgar Honetschläger, Birgit Jürgenssen, Christoph Steffner, the collective BLESS etc. were selected. In Austrian Cultural Forum you find the list in the world, including Bratislava (scrolling down) Tomaguill (talk) 00:22, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What are reliable foreign languages sources for wikipedia english? I am afraid of being delated

I just sow a page to be delated Teresa de Marco and one of the the sources is the official page of the Austrian Embassy in Slovakia, where it also refers to a previous exhibition in Museumsquartier that I sow. I wonder if an embassy and the main museum in a country as austria are not useful, which kind of sources we may use, in cases when not english available or not reliable enough sources are found, in order to contribute properly. Why is my article on an artist going to be deleted on the base that the source of my references is the artist self-publishing, when I have only used the official website of the Cultural program of the Austrian Embassy itself, and not any info. shared else

Hi, and thank you for taking the time. I can not change how the page is built, but I have not used information of the project by Teresa de Marco shared anywhere except in the Official page of the Austrian Embassy in Bratislava http://www.rakuskekulturneforum.sk/info/info

http://www.rakuskekulturneforum.sk/program/2017/04

rakuskekulturneforum means Austrian Cultural Forum in Slovakian

and anybody following the links (I) (II) (III) arrive to the same official page, but specifying the program for 2017/04 http://www.rakuskekulturneforum.sk/program/2017/04#!e:387

The Austrian Cultural Forum (German:Bratislava, Österreichisches Kulturforum / Slovakian: Rakúske kultúrne fórum) has posted the event, as well as the information not only about this exhibition next April, but the past exhibition of Teresa de Marco / Art links to my near death singularity, that took place in the main Museum of the capital of Austria, Vienna, in 2014: (see the text in German that they officialy write 2014...Q21 MuseumsQuartier Wien... At the top of the page you can see the official facebook, youtube, newsletter etc from the Embassy, you can give your email and get the official information also by email, if for whatever reasons I do not understand, the official page is not accepted. You, and anybody, will receive the emails and the information of the Official Cultural Program of the Embassy of Austria in Bratislava, including the exhibition (Art links to my near death singularity) that Teresa de Marco organize 05/04 "017, and that include some of the most notable Austrian artists.

Please once you receive the official emails you will realice that this source does not have anything to do with self-publishing. On the contrary, it is not a magazine, newspaper, or any small publisher where an artist could influence. It is the Cultural page of an Embassy, that send regular emails as well. Thank you for your time Tomaguill (talk) 08:16, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Tomaguill: The page about Teresa de Marco won't be deleted just yet. There is a discussion of the matter taking place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Teresa de Marco and you are encouraged to make your voice heard there. As for the reliability of your sources: you have provided only two, and one of them, from the Rakúske kultúrne fórum [Austrian Culture Forum] is just a program listing indicating that de Marco will be having a show at that venue. Listing this as an unreliable source does not imply that the Austrian Culture Forum is not a reputable organization; only that such event listings are generally placed and written by the artists themselves, and as such, cannot be counted on to be independent. Wikipedia notability guidelines, which determine what content should be included or not included at Wikipedia, require that a topic has been the subject of multiple instances of significant, independent coverage, and this does not appear to be the case yet for de Marco. Links to pages on the Austrian Culture Forum site other than the specific page about de Marco's show are irrelevant, as they do no discuss her at all. The article in Arte y Cultura Visual is not independent, as it was written by de Marco herself. If you can find instances of article written about de Marco, you might have something.
One of the questions you asked among your many questions was about the reliable foreign language sources for the English Wikipedia. I would recommend that you read Wikipedia's guidelines about reliable sources. The language of the source is not important, in this day of Google Translate, but the independence of the source is very important. Sources that promote or advertise the subject are not useful to us. Rather, we rely on sources that report on the subject objectively and independently. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:35, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I,m sorry to desagree again, but I think nobody has just take the time and click in the links, in order to see "black in white" that I,m using official information that is impossible to be written by the artists, collegues, family, friends... The links to the "rakuskekulturneforum" which mean Austrian Cultural Forum in Slovakian, has been officialy modify, adding the sentence "A project by Teresa de Marco= Ei Projekt von Teresa de Marco (German), in order to make easier the English Wikipedia Premium Editors to click on it, in order to read what the Cultural Attaché has written (as for all exhibitions taken place in the Embassy) about Teresa de Marco and Art Links to my near death singularity (If you translate his words you can read that the project was first presented in 2014 in Museumsquartier Vienna. From the same link you can also click to the info, contacts, social media, and all information that the Cultural department of the Embassy share, including links to emails to the Director, secretary, etc. I don,t want to think that you are suggesting that such an official page can be just published or , should I say faked, by anybody not working in the Embassy. http://www.rakuskekulturneforum.sk/program/2017/04

About the Spanish source I used, is the online offcial publicatio of the organitation for women artists in Spain (links to the Spanish Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asociación_de_Mujeres_en_las_Artes_Visuales_(MAV), whose editorial board members are Jona Baygual, Marta Mantecón, Ana Quiroga y Rocío de la Villa ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocio_de_la_Villa). You can prove it here: http://www.m-arteyculturavisual.com/sobre-m/ . As anybody can see in the page, anybody can place an announce (paying the fees) but the articles about the relevant women in the Spanish Art Scene, depend exclusively upon the Board, and there is no way , link, whatever, for self-publication (even in the blog, where you can comment, but not to start any article). If after checking out the editorial about "ART LINKS TO MY NEAR DEATH SINGULARITY / Teresa de Marco, artista y comisaria post-internet"= artist an post-internet curator, you click in the several links on the same page, you can check out not only all information, editoral board members, address, contacts, etc; you can also see that there is no place in the page for an artist to write about him/herself, neither for any curator, etc. They are allowed to comment, but the content of the whole page is by the Editorial Board, as they are the responsible for it and decide which artists or projects to invite.

I understand that is more difficult to follow links in foreign languages, but German and Spanish should not be so strange for English speakers. But we would not find fair that important and reliable official pages in other languages are rejected, while is widely know that many american or english artists show up in the English wikipedia, with references only to online small magazines and self-published books, of course in english, and therefore easier to check out for you. We also could just upload articles in the national sites obviously. But as you know for sure, translations to english are complicated in wikipedia, unless you translate thousands. And in many cases, as this, local wikipedias also wouldn,t help much, when artists and young curators are becaming kind of nomads and doing projects always in a different place. I know for this concrete page that the same project was presented in Paris around 2015, but I was not able to find the link and though somebody else should add it lately, as I find the collaborative work more interesting that if all references and text are upload at the same time by the same person. As I do not know the wikipedia intern situation, it may have been not the best way to start, I could admit I was too confident. Tomaguill (talk) 12:58, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Tomaguill: Again, I will reiterate, the problem has nothing to do with the language of your sources. I am quite capable of using Google translate to get a fairly accurate translation of the page at the Austrian Cultural Forum. The problem is that this page amounts to nothing more than an announcement that Ms de Marco will be mounting a show at the Austrian Cultural Forum in April. Such an announcement (whether or not written by Ms de Marco herself) does not sufficiently denote that she is notable, according to Wikipedia's standards. There is no implication that any of the information on the Austrian Cultural Forum has been faked, but rather that such announcements, while posted by the Embassy, are generally written by the artist themselves. (In other words, the Embassy reaches out to the artist and asks "what would you like us to write about you on our website announcing your show?") Such announcements do not constitute "independent coverage" as required by Wikipedia.
As for the article in Arte y Cultura Visual, this may well be a respected publication, but the by-line on the article indicates that it was written by de Marco herself. She may well have been invited to write the article by the journal's editors, and I'm sure that was quite an honor for her, but as a self-written article, it still does not constitute independent coverage.
Once again I will tell you that your writing me here does your case no good whatsoever. Since the article has been nominated for deletion, and the community is now discussing the matter, you must make your voice heard by the community by posting at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Teresa de Marco.
Also, in the future, when you add text to an existing discussion, please add your new text to the bottom of the page, so as to maintain the proper chronological order of the discussion. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:15, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Richard Martin[edit]

Hi Dan - thanks for the time you spent reviewing this entry - I am new to publishing on Wikipedia, so sorry if I didn't quite get what is should and shouldn't go on a page. I have learned a bit now from your comments. Thanks. I do have a question - can we at least add in some additional facts that are relevant to him being an Author and Journalist ... such as some of the awards he received and other published articles and places where he held positions?

I do see on other pages (i.e my Uncle was John Frankenheimer (a movie director) and I was reading his page and it talks about his parents and his heritage, which seem interesting context to hear about. So adding in the Richard Martin was a Pentathlete is pretty interesting to know (not very common), and gives a bit of context to the author/journalist.

Those are my two questions. Thanks again.

Rich Frankenheimer — Preceding unsigned comment added by Richmfrank (talkcontribs) 23:36, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Richmfrank: Yes, you can add material related to things that would make Martin notable. Details of his personal life, that are not relevant to his work as an author, should be kept to a minimum. Your uncle's heritage and family background are relevant to his work as a film director. If you can tie Martin's personal details to his work as an author, journalist, etc., then do so. Personal observations that have no basis in cited sources should be left out entirely. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 01:47, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Science of the Stream of Consciousness[edit]

Hello WikiDan61. Thanks for your note. The Science of the Stream of Consciousness page I am creating is completely different than the Stream of Consciousness (Psychology) page. Please take a look at both pages, and I think it will be obvious. If you have any questions about it, please get back to me. Thanks again. Hmvmd (talk) 23:22, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Again Dan, I hope this note gets to you. I put everything else aside this afternoon to try and correct all of the mistakes I've made in formatting The Science of the Stream of Consciousness article. I think I've learned a little bit, and corrected all of the mistakes as I understand them. But this is my first time submitting an article to Wikipedia. So maybe I haven't. Af for the difference between the Science of the Stream of Consciousness Article and the Stream of Consciousness (Psych) article, the crucial difference between them is that my SoSoC article is about establishing that: (1) it is possible to scientifically study the SoC and (2) there is already a history of four different phases of the scientific or proto-scientific study of the SoC. And then the article lays out and summarizes the findings of all four of those phases. This is important because as you know, much of the scientific community has held for 100 years that it is not possible to scientifically study the SoC. For about 65 years, they even said that it is not possible to study the mind. So that is why I've written this article. It is all about presenting the studies and information that make it clear that it is possible to scientifically study the SoC, and that there is an amazing amount to learn from doing so. For example, in my studies of Tibetan lamas living in Asia, I have studied the SoC as a means of understanding the nature of the healthy mind. @Hmvmd: Yes, your article is different from Stream of consciousness (psychology), but only insofar as you have chosen to take a topic about which Wikipedia already has an article and, instead, write your own article on the same topic. This is called a content fork, and it is highly discouraged at Wikipedia. Instead, you are encouraged to improve the existing article. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 04:18, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Again Dan, I just found your last notes about two hours ago. I decided to appeal your decision to delete, and I wrote an appeal. O.K. Carter Wikipedia Page[edit]

Hi--

I am the main creator of the page that you recently made some changes, and left some really great comments. I am submitting this Wikipedia page on my subject for a class at University of Texas at Arlington. This is my first time with Wikipedia, and the correct formatting and I am trying to make it through so I can get a good grade for this particular project. It is worth 500 pts. of my overall grade (yikes!!) We are on a points system in this class.

I am asking to help me please find a way for my page not to get deleted. I have limited information and a very local, but still notable journalist in the area. Can you give me any pointers or tips to help add some noteworthy things to keep the article up? Also-- could you help with the correct citations?

Thank you---- user:SusannaRachel — Preceding unsigned comment added by SusannaRachel (talkcontribs) 15:18, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@SusannaRachel: If the point of your class is to learn how to format a Wikipedia article, you can move the article to your user space and submit that to your professor. If the point of the class is to create a new Wikipedia article that is valid and will not be deleted, I can't help you there. I will admit that the nominator nominated your page for deletion entirely to quickly (and has been admonished for that), but I will also admit that your subject does not appear to merit inclusion in Wikipedia. However, if you can find indications of significant coverage of this individual (i.e. coverage outside of the local community that indicate that he is known on a statewide or nationwide scale), or reviews of his writing in national publications, that will help to avoid deletion. I recommend that you read and understand Wikipedia's guidelines for what makes a person notable enough for inclusion or Wikipedia's guidelines for what makes any topic notable enough for inclusion. The article won't be deleted for several days yet, so you have time to make the necessary improvements. If you have any further questions after reading those guidelines, feel free to ask me, or to ask for help from the community by using the {{help me}} template on your own user talk page. Talk:LendingPoint[edit]

Hi WikiDan61.

Thank you for your edits and feedback to the LendingPoint Wikipedia page. Regarding the NearPrime market, would it help if I cited this Wall Street Journal article about how major banks (JP Morgan, TD Bank, US Bancorp) are starting to market to a new consumer group called "near prime" consumers?

https://blogs.wsj.com/moneybeat/2016/07/26/banks-have-a-new-phrase-for-risky-customers-near-prime/

"Technically speaking, many lenders consider borrowers with FICO credit scores of at least 720 to be prime. FICO credit scores range from 300 to 850. The credit-score range that applies to near prime varies by bank, but generally falls somewhere in the mid-to-high 600s to the low 700s. J.P. Morgan’s Ms. Lake described the borrowers as those with credit scores below 700."

I'm new to editing and really appreciate your feedback, as I want to make sure that this page (and my future edits to other pages) meets all Wikipedia guidelines and policies.

Changes made to the Foundation For A Drug-Free World[edit]

Dear Sir;

The edits/changes made were not "white washing" as you put it. A lot of the data in there was outdated and simply not true. This program is extremely effective in educating the youth on the dangers of drugs which has become a deadly epidemic in our society. It is a secular program not "religious" as you had put it in there. Do you personally have anything against educating kids on the dangers of drugs or are you prejudiced? If a tsunami hits and people of different religions bring you drinkable bottles of water for your kids, will you honestly ask them what their religion is before you take the bottle and give it to your kid? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Neutroinfo (talkcontribs) 20:11, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Neutroinfo: It's whitewashing when you remove cited material that is not positive about the organization, and replace it with unsourced information that is unfailingly positive about the organization. That is the very definition of whitewashing. If you feel that the current version of the article is not a fair representation, then bring the matter up at the article's talk page, and provide reliable sources to verify the changes you'd like to see. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:43, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
PS: I have no opinion one way or the other about this organization. I had never heard of it before today. I DO object to the removal of sourced information in favor of unsourced information. That's not how we roll here. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:44, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Celbridge Community School[edit]

Hi WikiDAn61 I am a new and inexperienced user to wikipedia I saw you wrote on an article about Celbridge Community School (of which I am a teacher). I wanted to create a small wikipedia page about the school due to another wikipedia search coming up about a different school when people search the school name. Currently when you google Celbridge Community School a Collegiate school in celbridge comes up with improper information but linking to our website...that is why I created a tiny wikipedia article to get rid of it. If you could help to get the page not deleted I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Tadhg — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tadhgoc123 (talkcontribs) 14:02, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Tadhgoc123: I think you're a bit confused. You wrote the article about Celbridge Community School. I, finding the article wanting in several aspects, redirected it to the article about Celbridge, where the school is briefly mentioned among the other schools of that village. You undid that edit, and the article was subsequently nominated for deletion by another user. As for your Google search results:
  1. When I search for "Celbridge Community School" on Google, the first result is this site which is presumably your school's. I do not see any result which if for a college that happens to be in your village.
  2. Wikipedia does not exist to improve your school's Google search results. This is an encyclopedia, and it reports on topics that have been deemed to be notable. Your school does not appear to fall into that category.

Hi Yes I am very confused about it...I couldn't care less about improving my schools google search results but I want when people search for Celbridge Community School to be shown our webpage or twitter etc...but not show a wikipedia page with a different school that currently is not around but has some details linked with our school such as number, website etc...The school that google search brings up when you search for Celbridge Community School is Collegiate School Celbridge however it has information for our school. Also to create a wikipedia page for a school that has opened why was the information I put in about when it was founded the years and subjects offered along with sports not ok for a wikipedia page. I appreciate your help in this matter thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tadhgoc123 (talkcontribs) 13:13, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi WikiDAn61! I noticed my edited bio of Steven Lavine was taken down for neutrality reasons related to the opening sentence. If I remove the sentence — "Over the years, he garnered a reputation for steadfast leadership in arts education" — would it then be ok? I am happy to do that. Were there other issues with that draft that need to be addressed? Happy to edit as wiki sees fit, I just need some guidance as to what explicitly needs to be removed. Thanks so much! Jameswolken (talk) 22:43, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Jameswolken: You've misunderstood. The first sentence ("Over the years, he garnered a reputation for steadfast leadership in arts education.") is considered original research because there is no source to verify Lavine's reputation as you've described it. The rest of the edits are almost exclusively promotional. Your version of the article reads more like it was written by a public relations person than an encyclopedia author. Team Essex Page[edit]

Hi Dan,

I noticed the Team Essex Page I created is nominated for deleting.

I was wondering what I need to show for it to remain.

Many other volleyball teams in England have their own pages, I.e London Malory, Sheffield VC, IBB Polonia London.

We are sponsored by a handful of companies and I think the page is wikipedia worthy. We have had Olympians play for our volleyball club and most of our players have represented England or GB at International level. Two of our former players played at the London 2012 Olympics.

Volleyball England's the NGB of volleyball in this country and we play in the Super 8 league, the top division, which boosts European teams

@Chestersearle: I nominated the article because the team does not appear to meet Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion for organizations. Specifically, I was not able to find any significant coverage of this team in any available media. Furthermore, your claims that Team Essex currently play in the Super 8s is not supported by the Volleyball England website (here). This page does show that Team Essex Blaze (the men's team) finished at the top of National Division 1 (second level league) and this page that Team Essex Trinity (the women's team) finished in sixth place in Division 1. Respectable showings, but with no significant coverage to back up the Volleyball England page (which is little more than a directory), it is unlikely that the page should be retained. As for the presence of articles about other English volleyball teams, I would point out that a) that's not a very strong argument to make in a deletion discussion; and b) most of those articles should probably also be deleted for lack of significant coverage. If you can prove me wrong by providing citations showing that Team Essex has received significant coverage, I'll be glad to change my opinion on the matter. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:03, 24 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiDan61: Thank you for your reply, I am new to this community so am endeavouring to do the best I can. There are lots of examples of the significant coverage of Team Essex Volleyball Club in the media. Essex TV is an online television platform, which boasts both its online TV and an online magazine.https://www.essex-tv.co.uk/team-essex-volleyball-club-makes-history/, The Edge is a free online consumer based magazine,http://issuu.com/topdrawmedia.com/docs/edgemay2017?e=1369656/47971685, Volleyball England does its own season review which cites Team Essex's spot in Super 8s next season.https://www.volleyballengland.org/news/article/5534/the-thursday-review. Live coverage is also a regular event, with all our games being streamed. This link is for example the link to our shield final, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqg-4AVO2kg&t=4600s. Ah yes, I suppose the wording needs changing with regard to playing in Super 8s, we won Division 1 and will therefore automatically play in Super 8s next season. Volleyball England's website currently shows last seasons tabes, they get updated soon. Those tables are the final results, not the start of next season in September. Volleyball in England is growing and growing and its pages like this which help the sport grow, hopefully what I have shown above does show that we do get publicity, its however almost like being in a rut, something has to budge or it will never grow and expand. The media want you to have a bigger profile, a bigger profile comes with more media. chestersearleChatMe! 17:47, 24 May 2017 (BST)
@Chestersearle: Yes, a bigger profile comes with more media, but it's not Wikipedia's place to provide that "more media." In this day and age, when anyone with a mobile can film and upload to YouTube, that doesn't really count as "significant coverage", nor does coverage by your local TV station. Significant coverage (in the UK) would amount to coverage of your games at the regional or national level. I'm not seeing any evidence of that. Also, since you are a player on the team, I recommend you read Wikipedia's Conflict of Interest guidelines. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:52, 24 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiDan61: True, However Essex is a region in the UK? Essex TV isn't a local channel but a regional one? Volleyball England's coverage is also national coverage? The tone to which you respond to me is in my opinion very negative and harsh. How is that mean to encourage more people to make Wikipedia bigger and better. All I tried to do was expand the UK Volleyball Sector and am immediately hit by a brick wall. This is so disheartening. chestersearleChatMe! 18:00, 24 May 2017 (BST)
@Chestersearle: You are free to make these arguments at the AFD. Making them here will not help your case, but making them there might convince others to agree with your suggestion to keep the article. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:22, 24 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please make your objections at the ANI discussion. - Mlpearc (open channel) 14:37, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Mlpearc: I'm not going to do that. The ANI is valid; the user has a history of improper uploads. But not all of their uploads are invalid. The files at issue here are not part of the ANI case, but your tagging of them is its own problem. Per your suggestion, I have opened a thread at the relevant Commons discussion board. Retrieving material[edit]

Hi WikiDan61,

I have read through all of Wiki's explanation about my first page (Dialogue Journal), and why you may have deleted it. Cool, I understand. Could I please have access to the deleted material, so I can go back over it/use it for reference?

Thanks, and hope this finds you well, Grammarfiend72 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Grammarfiend72 (talkcontribs) 08:44, 31 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Grammarfiend72: I'm not an administrator, so I can't retrieve your deleted material. You may contact any of the administrators on this list to retrieve your deleted material. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 10:56, 31 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have deprodded Patent Act 2003 because a good faith comment on the talk page indicates deletion of this article is not uncontroversial. I have no prejudice against nominating it at AfD. —KuyaBriBriTalk 16:37, 2 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No No[edit]

"The Yes Yes Company" is the company's name - [1]. Regards, Cabayi (talk) 16:42, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

And Microsoft's name is The Microsoft Corporation, but that's not how we title articles at Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (companies). WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:18, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Where it says: "In some cases, leading articles (usually The) and suffixes (such as Company, International, Group, and so forth) are an integral part of the company name and should be included as specified by the company". Cabayi (talk) 18:58, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The article has been deleted anyway, so nothing to fix. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:01, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits at WP:FFU[edit]

Hi Dan,
Thanks for your help reviewing Files for Upload requests. Your last decline wasn't formatted properly and you didn't add an ArchiveNow template as well. I have corrected it.. Please go through Wikipedia:Files for upload/Reviewer instructions to understand the use of templates. The templates are also available for quick reference in the edit notice there. Regards, Yashovardhan (talk) 16:46, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Yarshovardhan Dhanania: Thanks for the feedback. I'm curious: where would I have learned about the ArchiveNow template? It is not mentioned at Wikipedia:Files for upload/Reviewer instructions. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:20, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(You pinged me wrong) - I didn't read it anywhere, just saw others already using it and learned it that way, its a good practise nonetheless. Yashovardhan (talk) 19:04, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

please email me the deleted content. [email protected]

thank you Micha McKerr — Preceding unsigned comment added by M McKerr (talkcontribs) 05:56, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@M McKerr: I cannot, as I am not an administrator and don't have access to deleted content. However, you may contact the deleting administrator (RickInBaltimore), or any of the administrators on Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to provide copies of deleted articles and ask for the article contents to be mailed to you. Cult films[edit]

I triggered the edit filter and I didn't want to got to the trouble of reporting it. Hotelpool (talk) 15:32, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Hotelpool: Not sure what that means. The article history doesn't show any edit filter triggers, and even if it did, so what? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:37, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiDan61: I created the page for G-M and it disallowed it. Hotelpool (talk) 15:39, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Hotelpool: I'm guessing you tried to use a blacklisted link as one of your references. In any case, as I mentioned on your talk page, I don't think the list is valid due to the poorly defined inclusion criteria. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:08, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Non Notable Page up for Deletion[edit]

Hi Dan,

Many thanks for your help on making sure the page is correct for KindaVillage. I'm not a particularly technical person, so I'm struggling to understand how I can make the page notable? Does it just need to have press coverage of the project itself? Is there any other way I can go about making the page notable?

Thank you for your help! Abbie — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abbie Norwich (talkcontribs)

@Abbie Norwich: The question isn't whether the page is notable, but rather whether the project which is the subject of the article is notable. I searched for coverage of KindaVillage and found nothing. If there is press coverage of the project available, then you should provide citations to that coverage in the article. (For help, see Help:Citing sources.) WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:53, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
