Article posted by me[edit]

As references I have inserted an interview with AA Bronson, one of the three artistes who produced the work.

For this artwork existes several books and also interview. He has been shown in the most important museum of contemporary art of the the world.

I think the article it's too long to add it in the General Idea Article. Carmelo Graci (talk) 14:56, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Carmelo Graci: One of the citations you've added states that The instalaltion Instruction are part of the work of art Fin De Siecle and they are in the hands of the owner. If these instructions have not been published in a publicly accessible manner, they are not considered a valid reference. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:49, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also deleting this reference, the next one (4th) summarizes the same words.
I have the installation instructions of this work of art. Carmelo Graci (talk) 16:54, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I assumed as much, since I note that you have also declared yourself the owner of the work within the body of the draft. This constitutes a conflict of interest, which you will need to declare on your user page. (See {{UserboxCOI}} WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:57, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In my page I have written italian collector.
I hope to create, after Fin De Siecle, an article for Graci Collection, already in artguide. Carmelo Graci (talk) 17:00, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Carmelo Graci: Your user page is blank. Your sanbox contains the text Italian art collector. This is in no way a sufficient declaration of your conflict of interest regarding the specific piece of art in your collection, Fin de siėcle. And, as the owner of the Graci Collection, I would strongly discourage you from writing about it. You may, if you think your collection is that noteworthy, request an article be written about it by an independent editor. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:08, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In the interview General Idea Art, Aids and Fin De Siecle, visible on you tube, at 38th minute, the artist AA Bronson declares the importance of this piece. "bestknown" of their production. Carmelo Graci (talk) 17:11, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Carmelo Graci: We could say that "AA Bronson felt the piece was the most important of their career." But art critics and historians might not agree. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:08, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, right. Aniway if this work has been exhibited in all this museums it means also curators -and critics- are agree. But in the videodocuments it’s Bronson who speaks. So ok with your version. Carmelo Graci (talk) 18:17, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wide exhibition of a work of art does not automatically imply that it is the artist's most important work. It may just be the artist's (or the artwork's owner's) favorite work and therefore the one that was promoted to the most exhibitions. Any claim that a work is the artist's most important is an opinion, and at Wikipedia, we can report opinions, but we have to attribute them, rather than stating them in Wikipedia's own voice. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:33, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
yes, report the Bronson’s opinion is the best option: in the video it’s him who speaks. Carmelo Graci (talk) 19:32, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New page[edit]

Hi dan you recently declined the creation of a page I was creating. I saw a couple of the historic leagues already had wikipages such as the cosmopolitan league and I wanted to document some of the history of other leagues. I used the other pages to kind of guide me and found mostly newspaper and magazine references similar to the references I saw on the other pages what can I do to enhance the page so that it is approved. I want to move on to other leagues and revisit the page to update the history Wickedits (talk) 22:54, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Wickedits: You don't appear to have asked any question here, so I'm not sure how to respond. You can see the comment I left on Draft:Florida Gold Coast League — there are too many facts in the draft that are not verified by citations to reliable sources. If you can fix that problem, you can then resubmit the draft for further review. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:26, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declination of a page (Municipal establishment "Kharkiv Humanitarian Pedagogical Academy" of the Kharkiv regional council)[edit]

"Kharkiv Humanitarian Pedagogical Academy Affairs" - is a page of government service "National agency for higher education quality assurance". This service check activity of our academy. This external reliable link. It is number 7 in our page list. But you indicated that our page does not contain external link and contains only internal links. Look please once more our page (Municipal establishment "Kharkiv Humanitarian Pegagogical Academy" of the Kharkiv regional council). Maybe it will suit you!!! Otherwise please prove that I am not right. Maiia Z (talk) 14:21, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Maiia Z: I see that you struggle with English, so you may not have properly understood my comment. I'll try to clarify. All of the references on Draft:Kharkiv Humanitarian Pegagogical Academy are links to pages published by the academy itself. Wikipedia does not consider these to be reliable sources. Wikipedia cares less about what an organization says about itself and more about what others have said about the organization. So, we'll need references from sources other than the academy itself. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:33, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am strong with English. I made changes in references list. Please check. Maiia Z (talk) 15:26, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please Verify This Source[edit]

Hi,I really appreciate your effort in making wikipedia a better place. I have a reference I wish to add to Draft:Christopher_M._Naghibi . Here it is - [1] DahSound (talk) 19:46, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@DahSound: Well, your draft has been deleted, so verifying sources is kinda moot now, but for the record, the source you've provided is a press release, which are often not considered valid sources for establishing notability. They can be used to verify facts in an article, but if there are no other sources that indicate notability, the draft is generally not published. In your case, apparently your draft was too overtly promotional and was deleted as spam. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:22, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See it, Please help me to check this draft if there be any errors, and if it is ok please publish it. Draft:Christopher Naghibi DahSound (talk) 13:47, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@DahSound: You have not submitted that draft for publication review yet. Please refer to the instructions at WP:AFC. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:15, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@DahSound: For the record, I have reviewed Draft:Christopher Naghibi, and I don't believe this individual merits inclusion at Wikipedia. He appears to be the COO of a relatively minor banking corporation. All of your sources are basically primary sources (press releases, corporate announcements, etc.). Nothing on the page suggests that he is a notable individual. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:20, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your feedback, The reason for the article is for educational purposes . I.e , Board members and history of First Foundation Bank and First City Banks, so that when an article of these banks are brought up it will be of essence.
The person in the article is known in areas of banking and stocks.
The references on this article can be verified and they serve as history. And if any looks promotional, you can kindly correct me.
Thank You DahSound (talk) 17:08, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@DahSound: Neither First Foundation Bank nor First City Bank appear to be notable banks, so Naghibi's role as their COO does not make him notable. If articles about either of those banks eventually get created, they can mention Naghibi as part of their history, but that does not require that a Wikipedia article exist prior to him being mentioned. Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal[edit]

Dan

My name is Nick Dymott and I am the webmaster and magazine editor for the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal Trust. I am reaching out to you in relation to the work done by yourself on the Wikipedia page on the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal.

In late 2021 I attempted to make some amendments to the page, but these were not properly supported with citations/references, and the changes I made were understandably undone by yourself shortly thereafter.

I wish to make a further attempt at updating the article, particularly in relation to the Restoration of the Canal, and to correct a couple of inaccuracies elsewhere in the article.

In doing so I will attempt to fully support new material with appropriate citations and references, but I am new to Wikipedia and may therefore not get everything lined up correctly at first.

The purpose of this communication is to let you know of my intentions, and to ask that you bear with me, and if at all possible offer guidance on correcting any poor Wikipedia practices I use.

I am reaching out to user Bob1960evens in a similar way to this, as he has contributed much to the article..

Any assistance offered would be very much appreciated.

Nick Dymott

@Nkneb61: Nick, if you are doubtful about your edits, I recommend that you float a trial balloon first. Either make a note at the article's talk page with the changes you'd like to make, or, if the change is too complex for a simple talk page comment, add the version of the article as you'd like to see it to your personal sandbox and ask at the article talk page for that version to be reviewed. Good luck. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:31, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks - I will be back in touch in due course. Nkneb61 (talk) 10:11, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

YouTube links[edit]

Hi WikiDan, I understand YouTube is not a "reliable source" to qualify for a wikipedia page, but can I leave the links anyway, just because they do link to the movies the article is referencing? {{Ping|WikiDan61}} Neelenna (talk) 22:59, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Neelenna: The YouTube videos you've linked to (the few I checked) appear to be videos posted by Liégeois herself to promote her films. These are not valid external links under Wikipedia policy. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:33, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Draft article Town of Paw Paw Old Mayor’s Office and Jail[edit]

Thanks for the clarification
I've found myself running in circles attempting to address each reviewer's comments that often times are not in agreement.
I've "cleaned up" the draft (basically to what I originally wrote) and in doing so took out the "extra historic". If the NHRP status is sufficient what more is required than referencing the nomination? So many buildings on the national register have only been written about via the nomination, and in doing so most independent reliable published sources (newspaper articles, meeting minutes, etc) have been used leaving nothing left to reference for an article on Wikipedia...
I'm a novice so I hope this reply finds you in the manner in which you prefer

WV Veritas (talk) 19:46, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@WV Veritas: It usually helps if you can show some form of significant coverage of the place outside of your own hometown. But it's generally agreed that mere inclusion in the NHRP is sufficient. Let me take another look. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:39, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@WV Veritas: I'm not finding confirmation that this site is actually listed in the NHRP. This citation is just the application for recognition; it does not confirm that the recognition was granted. This source is a local interest website, but I can confirm the reliability of that site. Finally, this link is just the NHRP search form, and in searching their database for sites in Morgan County, WV, I don't find a listing for any place in Paw Paw. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:07, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking a look.
It was approved by the NPS and entered into the National Register of Historic Places on 2 November 2023. No. 10000954
It does not appear the National Archives database containing the individual nominations is current (the nomination for this building, as well as a nomination for the Cacapon State Park listed in 2019 are not "linked" and accessible from the NPS website).
If you enter No. 100009542
into the search box on the following NPS website: National Register Database and Research
Search Properties Listed in the National Register of Historic Places
https://www.nps.gov/subjects/nationalregister/database-research.htm
The building shows as listed by the NPS with a listing date of 11/2/2023
The author of that article is the WV SHPO Coordinator for the National Register of Historic Places and while the website appears to be a local interest website it covers all of WV with a large regional following in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Really appreciate your assistance and willingness to run this all to ground.

For Alexis Wilhelm[edit]

Please do not delete entire paragraphs on scientific research. There have been cited sources, and remember that sometimes people simply cannot edit quickly. It is best to be patient on clearly true articles instead of deleting hard work. While it was good that you noticed the lack sources, Deleting the entire article is unreasonable 69.117.68.127 (talk) 00:15, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I believe this is a mistake as there is no scientific research mentioned on this page. The sections generally have been delted as the information needs to be up to date and more detailed. Wikipedia hasn't been allowing this. Alexis.wilhelm (talk) 22:21, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Alexis.wilhelm: You are replying to an older message to me on my user talk page. That message about scientific research has nothing to do with your editing. Regarding the merits of inclusion at Wikipeida for LTJG David M. Christian[edit]

Hi WikiDan61, just want to address your comments to see if there was any room for consideration? Christian was on a nationally televised Memorial Day tribute on TNT in May of 1995. His mission was considered significant enough for the USS Midway to keep on their Mission Board -- permanently. The researchers on the USS Midway are currently expanding their information on his story. And this January 2024 his records are currently under a requested Congressional Inquiry by a US Senator, which is currently being covered today on MSN.com and Yahoo News right now. (see: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/i-hope-he-was-not-a-pow-but-vietnam-vet-s-midstate-cousin-finds-evidence-he-survived-being-shot-down/ar-BB1hP3k6) Also the strange nature of his disappearance and mention in the PRAVDA article (which was likely because he had well documented SIOP/ALOFT nuclear weapons training) and the over 30 year long search by the CIA for answers to his disappearance which is well documented on the Library of Congress's archives. Further, he was within the first two dozen pilots to be shot down during the beginnings of the war. Finally he leads of Chapter 8 of Scott McGaugh's hard bound book: Midway Magic: An Oral History of America's Legendary Aircraft Carrier (ISBN 9781593150273). I sited many other references other than the Skyhawk association. I included: books, national TV coverage, current news coverage, as well as records from the Library of Congress and the National Archives. Also he was recently covered in a video game simulation on YouTube and received over 15,000 views inside of 2 weeks. So, I don't think the sources should be in question. So please reconsider. He has had much more coverage and is much more significant than you are portraying him to be. Respectfully submitted. VE23BlackKnights (talk) 20:09, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@VE23BlackKnights: I saw all of the coverage you provided, and I made my assessment. I recommend that you make a request at the Military History Project talk page to see if you can get someone more expert than I to re-assess. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:17, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, your response was cut off in my email. Just saw it. How do I do that request to the Military History Project talk page? VE23BlackKnights (talk) 20:23, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can I make that request without rebuilding a new WIKI page? That was a lot of work. Thank you. VE23BlackKnights (talk) 20:25, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Could you forward the page for me to them for review and consideration? Please? VE23BlackKnights (talk) 20:32, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I want to mention again that David Christian's mission is permanently on the Launch Status board at the USS Midway in their flight control center. You can verify this fact by contacting the research department at the USS Midway or contacting researcher: Laurent Reinhardt or Philip Eakin. They will verify the significance of his contribution to the USS Midway's history. 10,000 if not 100,000 of people will see his name on the mission board and want to know what his story is. Also MSN (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/i-hope-he-was-not-a-pow-but-vietnam-vet-s-midstate-cousin-finds-evidence-he-survived-being-shot-down/ar-BB1hP3k6#) and Yahoo News just ran a story on David Christian this week as well as ABC27 Harrisburg. Finally, he must be important enough if US Senator John Fetterman just launched a Congressional Inquiry into his records. How much more history do you need. People want to know about this story. And yes, their is conflicting information on his status and disappearance that is one of the reasons he is in the news. His records need to be looked at again and updated. Finally, his case number 0092-1-01 is full of documentation on the Library of Congress website. Also, when his remains were returned to the US, he was mentioned on national TV and was spoken about by President Ronald Regan. I don't have a source to back it up, but that was mentioned by his family. Additionally, there was a know USSR bounty put on pilots with certain technical training - the VA-23's squad book on page 107 says they had "nuclear weapons delivery capabilities" - and the CIA documents on the Library of Congress site show they kept looking for him for seven years past the time he was repatriated. I can give you direct link to those documents. His MIA case is one of the most complicated ones you will find. Also, in mid 90's Boris Yeltson told President Bush they had about a dozen of our pilots from Vietnam and handed over data on them. Article: By Daily Press | PUBLISHED: June 17, 1992. Article: Russia hands over data on five Americans captured in Vietnam to the US. Article: Some Vietnam POWs May Be Alive in Russia. David could have been one of them. So this is a very significant historical figure we are talking about. He flew about 60 missions before he disappeared. Additionally a DCS video gamer just ran a simulation of his mission on YouTube and referecned his whole account by name. This video recieved 15,000+ views in only 3 weeks time. Also, there is a probability of interest in this story by media now that it's out there for more to come. I can reply and provide more documentaion and write a better piece, but I struggle because I am not a professional writer, but please do not reject his story. I can improve it and provide better sources. It is definitely a significant story to US Navy History. VE23BlackKnights (talk) 13:43, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I looked it up, according to the USS Midway, the receive between 1 to 5 million visitors each year. According to the USS Midway Museum, the attracts over 5,000,000 visitors annually for its impressive collection of aircraft, storied military past and fun-filled family activities.[1] Since they have chosen to keep LTJG David Christian's mission up perminately in their Primary Flight Control Center, I think this should be a consideration of how many people are being exposed to his name and will want access to his story. So to say he does not have historical significance is not accurate. WiKi may be their first stop in finding out about him. Please reconsider. First, I would like to ask that, in order to keep our conversations chronological, all future comments be added to the bottom of the page. Second, I understand that the USS Midway Museum is a popular attraction. Lots of people walk through, and there they see some writing on a board. I think the likelihood that any of them take the time to note what the writing says, or would remember it 5 minutes later on exit from the museum, is quite low. Draft Article: Gerald Haythornthwaite[edit]

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback on the review of the above draft.

Fair comments, regarding recognition - I have noticed there is a lot of conflicting information out there.

Even on Wikipedia itself (i.e. Friends of the Peak District v Peak District Boundary Walk) or on the local branch CPRE (PDSY) website itself (Our History v Peak District Boundary Walk). Even articles on the national CPRE site disagrees with local branch statements. Confusing.

I'll reach out and find out precisely what he contributed and is responsible for individually (as well as more on his army background). Once I know I will clean up / report those internal and external sources. Already have other independent sources but thought the most impactful stuff would be from the charities - will remove some of them.

I'll also enquire about what his CBE award and why it was so significant and yet his wife was only awarded a MBE for her work (maybe a sign of the times, who knows).

Thanks again. Son Gokū Magia (talk) 11:45, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm.... More conflicting information again, found another independent article that linked to something on the CPRE PDSY website that contradicted who the actual founder of the charity was.
This one also states both were the founders, the list is growing... Son Gokū Magia (talk) 16:25, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiDan61: Got some information back. Have started to update Ethel Haythornthwaite's page to separate Gerald's work and impact (where possible).
Don't suppose you know if there is a generic timeline template? Plotting achievements/events against dates. Thanks. Son Gokū Magia (talk) 07:28, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Son Gokū Magia: There is a Wiki markup feature for timelines. See Help:EasyTimeline syntax. Don't be fooled by the name: there is nothing easy about this syntax. For an example of the output, look at Canadian Brass#Timeline. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:52, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@WikiDan61: Hi, quick question is YouTube a reliable source? Even if the content is from official organisations? So something like this video from the CPRE PDSY supports this article but contradicts this one on who the founder(s) of Friends of the Peak District was. Thoughts?
And staying on the founders of Friends of the Peak District for a moment what about archive (wayback machine) links? Like this one or this one. Acceptable or not? Thanks. Son Gokū Magia (talk) 11:32, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiDan61: Hi (again), and the question about the founders of the CPRE PDSY? This article is from the Chair, Julie Parry, of the CPRE PDSY posted on the national CPRE website that states:

"This is an ongoing project to document and preserve the plethora of archive material left by Gerald and Ethel Haythornthwaite, the founders of CPRE PDSY and key figures in the national CPRE movement."

Incidentally, this source was cited in my original draft I noticed (almost full circle again).
So here's my dilemma, if the same website has two competing and conflicting messages which one do you believe? Which one, as noted in your rejection reason, would you rely on?
Apart from the nosebleed you can probably guess I've been banging my head against the wall too. Please help. Son Gokū Magia (talk) 11:47, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This comment was on the wrong article. Was suppose to be on the LTJG David Marion Christian piece. Sorry. VE23BlackKnights (talk) 13:47, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will address my thoughts regarding your draft:
  1. David Christian's mission is permanently on the Launch Status board at the USS Midway museum
That could be just a coincidence. Something has to be there, but there's no documentation stating why they chose this particular bit of content for the display.
  2. His story has been covered by newspapers.
True, but this is true of many MIA soldiers and sailors as their loved ones reach out to media to keep their memories alive. I don't consider this significant coverage (but I get that others may disagree, which is why I reached out to the WikiProject that would have expertise for this field).
  3. He might have been captured by the Russians.
That appears to be supposition not backed by reliable sources.
  4. His mission was the subject of a YouTube video.
This is not a reliable source for anything.
Fear not. You have all the time in the world to improve your draft. Drafts may be resubmitted as often as you like (but don't just resubmit to get a different opinion; editors will expect to see improvements addressing the expressed concerns or will likely decline again). WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:45, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, sorry for posting in the wrong section. I'm new at this. Also, dorry, I did not see your resubmitted instruction (and already did) very sorry about that and will not do that again. Further it's hard to judge tone in messages, so I want to explain I only have respect for you and truly mean nothing harsh, and don't take any of your comments personally, and understand that you are trying to hold everything to the highest standards for Wiki. Take care. Understand all your comments here. Thank you for your time. I will work on the article a little more and will try to get more sources and more significance and will remove the details you site as problematic. Will try again. Thank you for your input. VE23BlackKnights (talk) 15:55, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If the story was verbatim from the write ups that the USS Midway Museum is working on right now, as well as the Library of Congress and the NAVY's MIA board site, and the facts taken directly from his investigation listed on the Library of Congress site, and a statement from the Midway detailing their reasons for including his mission on the Pri Fly board be more persuasive? I don't want to do more work if you say, no that would not be enough -- Let me know what you think. Thank you. VE23BlackKnights (talk) 16:09, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@VE23BlackKnights: If there is a page on the USS Midway Museum site that mentions Christian and the reason that his particular mission is the one listed on their board, that would be helpful. The fact that the LoC and the Navy's MIA board have information about this investigation is not especially notable: they store information about every such investigation. Nothing you've indicated so far shows me that Christian was not just another of the thousands of POW MIA soldiers and sailors from the Vietnam War. His case is well-documented, but does not (to me) appear notable. I don't think your going to change my mind, so I suggest rather that you seek help from WP:WikiProject Military history. They may better be able to assess the situation, and give you pointers on how to improve your draft. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:25, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@VE23BlackKnights: PS: I appreciate your dedication to this cause, but you've mentioned on a couple of occasions that you have been in personal contact with Christian's family regarding this matter. Perhaps you are too close to the issue to deal with it dispassionately? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:27, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, appreciate the mention. Good luck with yours (sounds fascinating), we're all learning. Son Gokū Magia (talk) 16:27, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just to clarify. His family had been interviewed by many news outlets, and made many comments. My references are based on those interviews, and that I have been directly in touch with the officer in charge of his rescue mission, who knew him and relayed personal information that regarded his family, mother and other information about what the family that they have been told, believed and been through. Just wanted to clarify that. But, as I'm learning... Wikipeida requires better sources than hear say. I am learning a lot. I'm starting to understand, and respect those requirements. I'm only responding to clarify. Also to let you know that I'm going to abandon my attempt to add him to Wikipedia. After reviewing your comments, I see his contribution just is not significant enough to warrant it. And I'm learning that I'm not a good enough researcher/writer to have probably attempted such an ambitious article. Very sorry and thanks for what you have shared, and taught me. Respectfully submitted. Take care. VE23BlackKnights (talk) 13:49, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@VE23BlackKnights: You replied to me and not @WikiDan61. I've probably made things worse by saying anything. I'll show myself out. Son Gokū Magia (talk) 08:10, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question about Barbara Nanning[edit]

Dear WikiDan61,

I noticed that my contribution to the Barbara Nanning page was made undone. Would you mind inform me what I did wrong, and if there is a chance it's turned back?

Thanks, Karlijn Krlndj (talk) 08:24, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Krlndj: None of the material you added referenced any sources. All material at Wikipedia is required to be verifiable by citations to reliable sources. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:44, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for you reply. Is it possible to place my updates and alterations back, so I can add the references? Krlndj (talk) 12:54, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Krlndj: Your version still exists in the edit history; you are free to retrieve it and add the needed citations. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:56, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Krlndj: So, you've restored your version, still without citations. Why should I not just revert this again? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:40, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry, I was working on it. I am new to this and just trying to find my way, please forgive me for mistakes I am sure I will make. I am doing my best! Krlndj (talk) 19:16, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you are actively updating the article, then you should place the {{in use}} template on the article. If, on the other hand, you are planning to leave the article in its current state while you go spend a few days (or weeks) to find sources to support the information, it would be better to revert to the prior version. You can develop your version in your own user space (for example, at User:Krlndj/Barbara Nanning). Material in your userspace does not need to meet verification requirements, so you can spend as much time as possible developing your sources. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:21, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok that's clear, thank you. Krlndj (talk) 19:26, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Krlndj: I note that you have added several sources, all produced by Nanning herself. Understand that these are primary sources, and Wikipedia considers these to be unreliable. Wikipedia is less interested in what a person has to say about herself and more interested in what other independent sources have said. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:24, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I understand the difficulty of that. But to be accurate, Nanning only was co-writer for the book from 2003. The book from 2019 was written by glass expert Titus Eliens, and the book from 1993 by Crommelin and Donker-Duyvis (Barbara Nanning is part of the title there). Krlndj (talk) 19:31, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Krlndj: You've listed four (of the six total) sources where Nanning is listed as author, co-author or co-editor. These are all considered primary sources. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:35, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I now see the ISBN numbers all put Nannings name as author. Does this mean that these sources are not good enough for the references (these are the basis on which much of my text is based) and my page is not accepted? Krlndj (talk) 19:41, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Krlndj: I'm not even looking at the ISBN numbers; I'm just looking at the citations as you listed them. But yes, if the only material you have available is from Nanning's own writings (or editings), then the article was better in its prior state. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:52, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's harsh. I will try to add information from other sources. Krlndj (talk) 19:57, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Krlndj: Yes, Wikipedia can be harder to contribute to than many realize. The rules here are trying to keep the information here as reliable as possible. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:23, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Getting Melissa Robbins article approved[edit]

Hi! I was hoping to get some clarity on why the article would be declined? I felt that there was rather significant sourcing from third-party and major local/national news outlets that would have shown the notability for the entry. Thanks! REF17 (talk) 20:05, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@REF17: I disagree with your assessment. It seems to me that the coverage of Robbins is the fairly typical local coverage that one might expect of any candidate for office and political activist. Most of the sources are not stories about her, but rather stories about other subjects where she has been quoted as a source. This does not count as significant coverage of her. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:32, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dan! would love your advice on Loconomics[edit]

I submitted the article for Loconomics about a month back and was declined. I removed the LinkedIn links as recommended, and edited minor aspects. Would it also help to incorporate -

https://worldpece.org/sites/default/files/artifacts/media/pdf/ourstohackandown.pdf (page 87)

I'm also thinking if we change the citation for Danny Spitzberg's article from geo.coop to the actual printed version (https://www.stirtoaction.com/magazine-issues/issue-33) that may give it more diversity of sources?

Loconomics has a brief mention in the NYT as well - not sure how to weave it in: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/21/business/smallbusiness/a-new-wrinkle-in-the-gig-economy-workers-get-most-of-the-money.html

Would love your suggestions as this is my first post and I'm still learning :) I love the concept of platform cooperatives and hope to contribute in the way of Wikipedia. Please let me know what you think. Thank you! Jennyjiyeonkim (talk) 02:39, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jennyjiyeonkim: It still appears that most of the sources are either mentions-in-passing, or first person accounts (interviews with Loconomics' founders or their own writings). Even the article about the demise of the organization is written as an interview with the founder. Unless more significant independent coverage can be found, I can't see how this would qualify as a published Wikipedia article. The Ours to Hack and Own piece fits this mold: written by Loconomics themselves. And the New York Times piece is paywalled, so I can't evaluate it. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:42, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha. Thanks so much for your feedback!! Jennyjiyeonkim (talk) 10:16, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Editing 'Tunga'[edit]

Hi Dan, I am editing the page on the Brazilian artist Tunga, but it seems you are reverting our edits. What could be the problem? Thank you. Aguasdemarço123 (talk) 14:36, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Aguasdemarço123--sorry, but why are you speaking in the singular and the plural? Drmies (talk) 14:38, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • OK, I can't speak for WikiDan, but this, "His erudition and philosophical background were reflected in an increasingly conceptual artistic output, which involves the intersection with research in different knowledge fields and a dialogue with literature, philosophy, psychoanalysis, theatre, exact sciences and biology. His work is powerful, profound and self-referential, denies linear time and relies heavily on materiality, symbologies and processes of transformation and metamorphoses"--no. That's not how why write on Wikipedia, and nobody should write like that anywhere. Drmies (talk) 14:39, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Aguasdemarço123: Drmies has basically hit the nail on the head. Wikipedia strives for a neutral tone and your writing at Tunga (artist) has consistenly missed that mark. Please read the relevant guidelines, and try to keep your editing in the neutral, encyclopedic tone that Wikipedia needs. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:48, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024[edit]

Hello WikiDan61,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Nordic Historical Review[edit]

Hi, I'm not very pleased by the changes you introduced in the mentioned article. You not only cancelled all the detailed publications/issues but also all the references that were meant to respond to the lack of information underlined in the banner. In addition, it took me quite a long time to find accurate information, which means that I did work for nothing trying to improve Wiki. I understand that you enjoy quite a high position as an official censor or so, but I would ge greatful if you'd accept to restore the previous page as I left it. Thanks in advance, Vanechka Vanechka32 (talk) 18:35, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Vanechka32: As I noted in my edit summary, I felt that the exhaustive list of published volumes was excessive. Wikipedia's purpose is not to act as this journal's website or repository. The citations that got deleted along with the list merely verified the existence of the volumes, they did not provide in-depth independent coverage of the journal itself, therefore they did not answer the notability concern expressed in the maintenance banner. Artyom Alekseyevich[edit]

Hello! Please do not refuse me the publication of my article... This is very interesting information, a fascinating event in the life of the royal family of Russia... Most of the current representatives of the Romanovs have an article about themselves on Wikipedia, and the only descendant of Nicholas was ignored, is this fair? Marcello Vałe (talk) 19:15, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Marcello Vałe: Unfortunately, none of your sources are about Alekseyevich himself. They are all about his ancestors, or about the generic concept of "Blue Blood". Without reliable sources written about Alexseyevich himself, we cannot accept this draft for publication. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:19, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All misunderstandings have been corrected, additional information about popularity has been added Marcello Vałe (talk) 19:57, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) Far from it, the draft is getting worse, he may well have "popularity" but Wikipedia is not concerned with that, we require them to be notable. Theroadislong (talk) 20:02, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All sources of his celebrity are indicated there, he is as popular and famous as '''Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna of Russia''' Marcello Vałe (talk) 20:08, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Let's review the changes since I last declined this draft:
  • Added source [2], a link to an article by an author named Андреев Артем Алексеевич (perhaps your draft's subject, perhaps not, hard to tell) titled "Russian-Khiva relations at the end of the 17th - beginning of the 18th centuries. Declarative “Wool” or real citizenship?". Not sure how this gives us any information about your guy.
  • Added source "Complete list of noble families of the Russian Empire (titled and pillar nobility)". Again, nothing to do with your guy specifically.
  • A link to litres.ru: although I can't access the specific page, litres.ru appears to be a Russian book discussion forum, similar to Goodreads. Since I can't access the specific page (possibly due to employer-imposed internet restrictions) I can't evaluate the specific page, but it seems unlikely to provide any added indications of notability.
  • A link to vk.com, which I understand to be Russia's equivalent of Facebook and therefore of no real help to us as a reliable source.
  • A link to an article in Vogue describing the interaction of the Romanovs with the British royal family. Again, nothing specific here about your guy.
In short, you've added more links, but given us no more real, usable information about your guy. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:13, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've added some more information... Marcello Vałe (talk) 20:37, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please… Help me with article “Artyom Alekseyevich”[edit]

I added more information about this person. I ask you, give this article a chance to live. I found all the information about this man in the book “The Romanovs”, I also added a link. Wikipedia allows articles of this format. In addition to “popularity is not inherited,” there is a point about the individuality of the individual... his merits, scope of activity and public opinion about him. also, this is important information about a very influential person Marcello Vałe (talk) 04:41, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Marcello Vałe: How stupid do you think I am? You've added a link to an entry on "neobook.com" which is just a copy of this draft. Please stop wasting my time. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:26, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for feedback on the Wall of Legality page[edit]

Question on links to open-access books[edit]

Hi WikiDan61, I write about your helpful review of the changes to the Torkel Opsahl Academic EPublisher page. I studied more and understood the wrong list of links. That said and agreed, these are stable links to fully open-access resources (the PDF file directly, for example) and are not under those which should be avoided. I understand that the policy allows for such links to be added in footnotes, but I wanted to confirm with an experienced editor before doing so. Thank you. AAngotti01 (talk) 10:16, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What follows is my opinion, not a statement of Wikipedia policy. You have listed a number of books published by TOAEP, and have provided a link to their website. I believe that is sufficient for any interested reader to access the material published by TOAEP. Linking to the individual publications as part of a citation for that publication would be excessive and unnecessary. Such excessive linking is often used as a search engine optimization strategy, as search engines give higher priority to sites that have more in-links, but that does not work with Wikipedia since Wikipedia expressly codes their pages to cause search engines not to count links as in-links to other sites. I'm not claiming that you are engaged in an SEO strategy, but excessive linking can be seen as an attempt at that and will be reverted anyway. Christianity in Iraq[edit]

Hello Dan! I saw the warring on the Christianity in Iraq page and came here to thank you with your patience in the talk section. I’ve currently edited the page to include a disputed neutrality template to create a middle ground until the consensus is achieved. Whilst I see the section as definitely biased with Aboona having a perspective which promotes Assyrian continuity theory, I don’t believe merely finger pointing is good for wikipedia (naturally!). Thus for now I will try to conduct my research whilst not straying too far from my university assignments.

Once again, I appreciate your pateince! Volkish Kurden (talk) 22:13, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Volkish Kurden: I appreciate your input. I'm no historian and don't really have an opinion one way or the other. I just didn't want a single user deciding that sourced material was trash without at least a discussion of the matter. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:34, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jeff Schiefelbein[edit]

Hi @WikiDan61, I am the author of the Jeff Schiefelbein page you reviewed. The error stated Schiefelbein does not have adequate coverage to allow for an article on Wikipedia. Please be specific in your requirements. The Schiefelbein article meets and exceeds most articles on Wikipedia for biographies of living people. I have personally heard Schiefelbein speak and he is certainly deserving of some recognition on this platform as he has a well rounded platform in various subject matters and areas. @Patrickdelagarza: I disagree with your assessment that Schiefelbein has received adequate coverage. The citations you have provided indicate that he started a program at Texas A&M, for which he received some recognition from the state governor. Laudable, but not notable. The remainder of the article is sourced to various websites of entities directly related to Schiefelbein, so they cannot be considered independent coverage (and are often little less than a notice that he serves on this or that board).
