Gahame surname[edit]

Hi

Will you please remove (Redirected from Gahame surname) from the Gahan surname wiki page. It comes up on google as a jump to:navigation search.

I am going to do more research along with the Irish Herald on the Gahame surname so it works well on wiki. Also I shall get recognised references to help a Gahamepage work on wiki.

With Kindest Regards

Robert — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robert gahame (talkcontribs) 17:37, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

At present, the Gahame surname page redirects to the Gahan (surname) page, as Gahame appears to be merely a variant of Gahan. If you have evidence to the contrary, then you are free to edit the Gahame surname page, and change it from a redirect to an actual page. If, however, you have information that applies equally to both names, then please add it to the existing Gahan (surname) page, as we don't need two pages discussing the same topic (a name and its variants).
I can't really speak to the Google results -- that's an issue for Google to resolve. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:51, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Odyssey Networks[edit]

Because the new name of the company is Odyssey Networks. Just updating the article because the information on them is old. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dorryfunaki (talkcontribs) 14:08, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but you moved the article from the main namespace to the Wikipedia: namespace, which is reserved for articles about the Wikipedia project, and is not to be used for encyclopedia content. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:40, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And, for the record, Odyssey Network (singular) was a cable station founded in 1996 that, in 2001, became The Hallmark Channel. Odyssey Networks (plural) is a currently active company delivering interfaith media. Different companies. We don't get to just usurp the old article to create a new article. If you wish to write about Odyssey Networks, create a NEW article. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:56, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for the update. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dorryfunaki (talkcontribs)

How to merge[edit]

Hi I do not know how to merge the contants of one page to another. I need ghelp for the merger. Thanks. Fayyaz — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fayyazsheikh1 (talkcontribs) 10:44, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merging pages is basically a manual operation -- you edit the target page with the relevant information (and citations) from the source page. When you've copied what information is appropriate from the source page, you replace the contents of the source page with a redirect to the target page. However, I would not begin this process on your SCWR hydrogen cogeneration model article until its AFD discussion has concluded that this is the proper action. I would have already merged the content except that the only new content that appears in your article that is not already contained at the copper-chlorine cycle article is the marriage of this process with the CANDU reactor, and this marriage appears to only exist in your original research, so there is really nothing to merge, in my opinion. Citation Questions about newly create Leadership styles page[edit]

Hello, WikiDan61

I am writing you back because you labeled some of the citations in the newly created Leadership styles page as questionable. I have found some more reliable sources, but noticed you have also changed the citation format. I am part of a class project at James Madison University and am not expierenced enough to put in the new citations in the format you did. What should I do to put the new citations in properly.

Adudley08 (talk) 19:07, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I formatted the citations using the appropriate citation template. To cite a journal article, use {{cite journal}}. To cite a book, use {{tl|cite book}. To cite a webpage, use {{cite web}}. If you click on each of these links, they will bring you to the documentation page for these template, which will instruct you on what parameters to use. It's all quite simple, really. If you find it too complicated, just insert the citations how you did before, and I or some other helpful editor will straighten them out. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:26, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is you delete![edit]

Is a delete of 20th_Century_Fox predecessor - 20th Century Pictures and ITV2 page of former logo a sister channel of ITV Network - ITV2 former logos. Is delete, Back is no! Thanks, User:Bacr13.

The 20th Century Pictures page had been merged to 20th Century Fox five years ago. There was no reason to undo that merge, especially without a discussion or without adding any information. The ITV2 former logos page contains no information that is not already contained at ITV2, except that at ITV2 the information is actually presented in readable English. Wikipedia editors have no way of verifying that your claim of owning the copyright is valid. Because of this, Wikipedia has developed a procedure for donating copyrighted materials. However, in this case, I wouldn't bother yourself with the procedure, because the copyrighted material that I removed was also blatantly promotiona, which also violates Wikipedia's policies. If you do, in fact, represent IgorLab Software, you have a conflict of interest regarding this topic, and should exercise care when editing this article. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/?what if![edit]

In reference to your message: No indications that this company meets the criteria of WP:ORG. Yet another business consultancy with a clever idea, but no indications of any significant impact. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:32, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for the feedback! This entry had actually been up for a quite a while (at least since 2010), and I just wanted to update some dead reference links and out-of-date information. Can you please tell me what you'd like to see to reverse the flag––given that the post had been previously approved?

Thanks a lot! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Msendrow (talkcontribs) 18:23, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The fact that the article on ?what if! has been available on Wikipedia for any given length of time is irrelevant. It just means that no one had yet taken the time to evaluate the article to find out if it met inclusion criteria or not. Since the article has been nominated for deletion at Articles for deletion, the discussion that has been started (at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/?what if!) needs to run to completion (generally seven days). You are free to add your thoughts to that discussion if you feel that this company meets the criteria for inclusion, but the age of the article is not a valid reason for keeping it. The company must meet some criteria of notability for organizations. If you can provide information about the company showing how it meets those criteria, please do so. GOCE March drive wrap-up[edit]

Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive
GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graph

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! This is the most successful drive we have had for quite a while. Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter.

Participation

Of the 70 people who signed up for this drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Special acknowledgement goes out to Lfstevens, who did over 200 articles, most of them in the last third of the drive, and topped all three leaderboard categories. You're a superstar! Stfg and others have been pre-checking the articles for quality and conformance to Wikipedia guidelines; some have been nominated for deletion or had some preliminary clean-up done to help make the copy-edit process more fun and appealing. Thanks to all who helped get those nasty last few articles out of the target months.

Progress report

During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—October, November, and December 2010—from the queue, and have now eliminated all the 2010 articles from our list. We were able to complete 500 articles this month! End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here.

When working on the backlog, please keep in mind that there are options other than copy-editing available; some articles may be candidates for deletion, or may not be suitable for copy-editing at this time for other reasons. The {{GOCEreviewed}} tag can be placed on any article you find to be totally uneditable, and you can nominate for deletion any that you discover to be copyright violations or completely unintelligible. If you need help deciding what to do, please contact any of the coordinators.

Thank you for participating in the March 2012 drive! All contributions are appreciated. Our next copy-edit drive will be in May.

Your drive coordinators – Dianna (Talk), Stfg (Talk), and Dank (talk)

Yogi Bhajan article[edit]

I appreciate your work on the Yogi Bhajan article - your quest for conciseness and not wanting to violate copyrights. It is all good. What does puzzle me, however, is your indicating that certain printed sources are "unreliable sources." What in your mind makes them so? Please advise. Thanks.

Guru Fatha Singh Khalsa (talk) 19:05, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The sources in question are
  1. Singh, Bhai Sahib Sardar Kapur (1979). "Testimonial Letters". In Khalsa, Sardarni Premka Kaur; Khalsa, Sat Kirpal Kaur. The Man Called Siri Singh Sahib. Los Angeles: Sikh Dharma
  2. Singh, Trilochan (1977). "Sikhism and Tantric Yoga".
The first is a book published by Sikh Dharma, the organization founded by Yogi Bhajan, and therefore has to be considered a primary source. (I.e. the neutrality of a book published about the Yogi, by the Yogi's company, has to be questioned.)
The second source is a website that is independently published with no evidence of editorial review, meaning that it fails Wikipedia's definition of a reliable source. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:20, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Got it. Much of the material is the article is based in "in house" sources, but only because the major media chose not to cover Yogi Bhajan's life and mission in any great detail. Take away the in house sources and it becomes a very short article indeed. Still, I appreciate your efforts.

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Page[edit]

Hi I just received a copywrite violation for the content of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. I'm the new webmaster for Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and was directed by my supervisor to change the content on the existing CSHL page. This included changing all the text to mirror that which is in our newsletters and website. This also applies for the images.

Is there any possible way to keep the new content that I made, because like I said, it was assigned to me by the Vice President of Public Affairs.

Thanks

Saber79 Robert Als CSHL Senior Web Designer Saber79 (talk) 19:28, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not your company's webserver. CSHL has its own website to advertise itself. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and is intended to proved neutral, cited information. Tell your supervisor that his direction to you directly violates Wikipedia's guidelines. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:45, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

CSHL page[edit]

Is this because of our "© 2012 Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. All Rights Reserved."tag on our site? Could this be the reason of the conflict? The information on the original piece was inaccurate and was requested to be reworked to incorporate all of the Lab's features, written in very neutral, not as a promotional piece but as a factual and historical reference guide.

thanks

Saber79 (talk) 19:54, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the fact that the text directly copyrighted text that is claimed as copyright on the CSHL website is the proximate cause of the problem. However, even if the text were not copyrighted, the text from CSHL's website is promotional. That is understandable: companies publish websites to promote themselves. But that is not Wikipedia's purpose. Phrases such as "[CSHL] has shaped contemporary biomedical research and education" can only be seen as promotional. If there are inaccuracies on the existing page, I would suggest that you (as a person with an admitted conflict of interest) point out the inaccuracies on the article's talk page, and allow disinterested editors to evaluate your points and make corrections as necessary. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:58, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

CSHL Page[edit]

Ok, another question. Is it possible to include the same copyright notice that is on our site (© 2012 Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. All Rights Reserved.) on the new wiki article I created? Would that bypass this supposed infringement?

Saber79 (talk) 14:08, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No. You can't claim a copyright on anything posted on Wikipedia. There is a process to donate copyrighted materials, but the donated material must meet the same guidelines of neutralith and verifiabilty as all other articles, and the material you had posted was too promotional. Response to your suggestion[edit]

Hello, two points:

(1) On the notability: I have not mentioned that as far as we are aware, the VRC is the main "implementation" activity underway, although there are plenty of academic discussions going on. We are working now to create an actual market in VRCs. Also, I have been cooperating or communicating with all the authors noted and certainly don't see that their contributions are "competition" as they are academics, for the most part, not implementers of market mechanisms.

(2) On the suggest to place in "climate mitigation", I have to note to you that the VRC is not about climate mitigation, but is a mechanism to encourage climate adaptation. I might suggest that we could change the title of this article, and invite all those who have contributed to the subject matter, to something like "market based mechanisms for climate adaptation".

Sound good?

Hi - this is a French-Canadian organization that has no English translation. That is why information is not available in English. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CTF-FCE (talkcontribs) 16:52, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The organization may well only conduct its business in French, but this is the English language Wikipedia, so all content must be written in English. Since you appear capable of communicating in English, I would imagine that you are capable of creating the article in English. What information is available is irrelevant: if you are copying the information from elsewhere, that is a copyright violation. If you are writing the material in your own words, you should be able to write them in English as well as French. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:45, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am not willing to levy indefinite blocks for vandalism without discussion by the community; of course I won't undo such a block placed by someone else, but as this user has been making good-faith contributions as well as vandalism, I don't believe an indefinite block for vandalism to be appropriate. Fixed it. Somehow that page caused me to have an edit conflict and I lost the data twice I put in. Looks better now? ChrisGualtieri (talk) 13:36, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Better, but still some work to do (which I have done). Bare URLs are generally not the best format for references. There are any number of citation templates to help you format just about any type of citation. They standardize the way references appear across Wikipedia, and really neaten up an article. The page titled Dr. Ahmed shaltout was deleted with this log (17:15, 16 April 2012 Peridon (talk | contribs) deleted page Dr. Ahmed Shaltout (G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion)) I don't know why, I've red the policy and i've found that i didn't violate any, Dr. Ahmed is a very well known public figure and a well known public speaker, and me "one of his Disciples" wanted to show my gratitude to him by making a page of him (after taking his permission). Please Help me. Thanks --Business Seeker (talk) 17:56, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Shaltout is a public speaker, whose business depends on his reputation. The page you wrote appeared to be nothing but praise for Dr. Shaltout, in an effort to improve his reputation and make him a more desirable speaker. That is promotion, not information. Well, You got a point there. but there must be a rule for that. I didn't enclose any contacting details, Direct numbers or even links to any website or affiliated sites to Dr. Shaltout. I thought this way i won't offend anybody. The page I worte seemed "nothing but praise" because I was writing his biography, we don't see somebody writing "He failed this, or He Failed that" without offending anybody. You created a page that, if one performed a search for Ahmed Shaltout, one would find, and one would then be led to believe based on the glowing language found there that Dr. Shaltout is a wonderful person and I should most definitely hire him as a speaker. I understand that you tried not to break the rules. Your response re-confirmed the incorrect placement of a bio-page of William Welch[edit]

Right now the name William Welch points to one person, a professional wrestler.

The name should point directly to a disambiguation page, as about seven names on Wikipedia correspond to that name.

If I didn't correctly migrate the history, then it's your place to correct my work, not to revert it. Please correct my work to migrate the history.

Thanks in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Angelofmercy2012 (talkcontribs) 13:06, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

While it may be true that, since the name William Welch is so common, the best landing page for a user who simply searches for "William Welch" should be William Welch (disambiguation), the method you chose is the wrong way to go. There is a page move technique that will allow a page to be renamed while still retaining all of its history. I can execute that technique. I reverted your edit as a first step. Unfortunately, having a life, I didn't have time to complete the fix at the moment. I will endeavor to do so now. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:17, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nashville Tribute Band Article[edit]

The information I had listed originally for the Nashville Tribute Band article is from a website that we, R Legacy Entertainment, the band's music label, own and manage. Does that make a case for leaving the article and it's content? Here's our website - http://rlegacyentertainment.com/ (we're in the process of building a new one) Chadks (talk) 15:26, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, that makes a case specifically for not leaving the article's content as it was, as this would be a copyright violation. There are avenues to get around this (see directions for allowing copyrighted material), but this would not be very helpful as the material was overtly promotional, which is counter to Wikipedia's purpose. The version I had rewritten was more neutral, and actually cited a reference, but another editor has expressed concern that the band is not notable enough to merit their own Wikipedia page. I'm not sure about their notability either, but I suspect that, given their unique position of creating contemporary LDS-themed music from an accomplished and nationally-known songwriter, they should be notable -- we just need to find the sources saying so. Bill James Baker[edit]

I am new to editing pages, but I wanted to ask what it is exactly that I must do to ensure that Bill James Baker fits under a "notable" category? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lauraduran (talkcontribs) 19:56, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The criteria for inclusion are pretty clear. What you need to do is to include in the article facts (with references) about the subject that indicate that he meets those criteria. In this case, Baker appears to be making significant impact in the field of medicine with his Antarctic bio-chemicals expeditions. Since you've added the Discovery.com reference, that's a good start. Generally, multiple independent sources are required. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:19, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have a new question regarding formatting, in Bill James Baker's page the main picture has a File:Framelessalt that is showing above and under the photo.I don't know how to get rid of it maybe you could help me? Thanks in advance! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lauraduran (talkcontribs) 16:07, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Don't use the [[File:...]] format when placing images in the infobox. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:13, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tabula Association[edit]

hello, i would like to review my articol, to add sources and to make it in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. My page, Tabula Association was deleted in march. Thank you for your help.Eszterb (talk) 09:04, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am not an administrator and do not have access to your deleted article for you to review. You can enter a request at WP:Requests for undeletion. However, since your article was deleted as the result of a community discussion, it is unlikely that you will be able to create a version that will meet inclusion criteria. Multiple editors searched for sources regarding this association and found none. Your actions during the course of that discussion (removing the deletion notice from the article, not once but twice) indicate to me that you probably have a vested interest in seeing this article on Wikipedia, which will cause any article you write to receive extra scrutiny. However, if you are insistent, and if you have better sources than last time, than feel free to make your request and improve your article. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 09:45, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback?[edit]

Hi Dan, I noticed that you get a large number of opportunities to revert vandalism, and seem to have a clear idea of what is and isn't vandalism. Would you WP:ROLLBACK be of value to you? If so, read about the feature and tell me when you would and wouldn't use it. Thanks! --joe deckertalk to me 18:46, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I use Twinkle for my vandalism patrols, and when I show a difference, Twinkle already gives me a rollback option. I don't know that having the WP:ROLLBACK bit would give me any more functionality than I already have. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:26, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's more or less my experience as well--native rollback is a bit quicker, but (because it's one-touch, automated edit summary), native rollback is a lot easier to mess up with, and you don't get the flexibility of adjusting the edit summary with the native tool. Nonetheless, a few folks find it a useful tool in the arsenal, if you should decide going forward that you want it, I'd feel comfortable granting it to you. Have a great week, --joe deckertalk to me 21:04, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

KamaljeetSingh Randhawa (talk) 16:40, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You can use other websites as a reference for your writing, but the writing you contribute to Wikipedia must be your own work. You cannot copy material directly from another website into Wikipedia. If your time is too limited to do the work necessary to write in your own words, then editing Wikipedia may not be the best use of your time. hari jiwan singh khalsa[edit]

hello wikidan61, i am new to wikipedia. if i've committed any infractions they were due to my ignorance i am sorry. "axe to grind", no. i am a anti cult activist. i have been following the activities of 3ho since i encountered them in 1984. only recently did i notice a multitude of 3ho articles by 3ho members at wikipedia. there seems to be a collabative by 3ho members to create articles to propogandize the yogi bhajan/3ho agenda cost free at wikipedia expense. 3ho members have been convicted of drug smuggling, paramilitary weapons procurment, a canadian lottery scam that preyed on the eldery,a gemstone fraud, and there have been a couple of bodies found in the trunks of parked cars at airports. in my zeal i may have committed some infractions against wikipedia policies, my aplogies. at the yogi bhajan page i posted "the 3ho leader inspires hostility" using the Time magazine article already cited on the page, it was deleted. i also posted, using a newspaper citation, 'that Akal security, a 3ho organization, was fined millions of dollars by the U.S. Government for contract violations at U.S. military bases, it too was deleted. seems any true facts that tarnishes the yogi bhjan/3ho image is deleted by guru fatha, a 3ho member. i thought one can delete text that didn't have a citation or the citation had an affiliation with the subject. i searched editing help but didn't find any reference. earlier tonight i got a computer generated warning. please advise. again, i'm very sorry for any infractions. Daan singh Daan singh (talk) 19:45, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You claim to be an anti-cult activist. That in itself is an "axe to grind". If Bajan's organization (Sikh Dharma -- they have their own article, thanks to me, and I think I've managed to keep it balanced) has been considered a cult, then that is information that can be added to the article, but it has to be couched in the proper terminology. One can't just say "Sikh Dharma is a cult." One can say "Sikh Dharma has been called a cult by <name your source here> based on <name the source's reasons for saying so here>". And you must cite such a statement, or it will likely be deleted. In general, positive information about a person or organization is seen as non-controversial, and so is subject to less scrutiny than negative information. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:38, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I am a pious, religious man, a Sikh. “axe to grind”? In my “axe to grind” I have no personal interest in yogi bhajan/3ho other than to reveal the TRUTH. I have been monitoring these groups’ activity since I first encountered them in 1984. 3ho was deemed a “cult” by a leading cult expert in a court affidavit. see my use talk.

CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS, 3hoers have been convicted of: 1. drug smuggling, 20 tons of pot; 2. weapons procurement with silencers and a grenade launcher; 3. possession of 1 lb. of heroin; 4. a gemstone fraud; 5. insurance fraud; 6. a Canadian lottery scam that preyed on the elderly; 7. a toner cartridge fraud; 8. SEC violations as wire fraud. These are the ones that got caught, how many didn’t? And, a couple of dead bodies in the car trunks parked at airports, plus two unsolved murders in Toronto. I am more than willing to provide the www. links to the above court documents. In my prayers to GOD I have never asked for anything for myself, it is always for the good of others. Of late my prayers have been wholly devotional. I shall adjust my prayers to ask GOD that one or more of your children, siblings, or other relatives join 3ho, hence denouncing all family ties. May my prayers be fruitful. Then we shall see who has the “axe to grind”. Daan Singh Daan singh full text is not showing, go to preview (talk) 00:58, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you have verifiable evidence that 3HO is a criminal organization, then you van mention that fact on the appropriate article, with the proper citations. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 03:04, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

i never said 3ho is a criminal organization, if it were the feds/rico would have been all over them, so don't put words in my mouth. i said 3ho individuals in the "sect" are criminals. at the yogi bhajan article talk i cited expert court testimony in an affidavit from a cult expert that 3ho is cult. Spectra SDR article[edit]

Hello there. Following your quite understandable proposition that the Spectra SDR article be deleted, I sought to rectify to the issues raised. Gone are the primary references; having being replaced by veritable third-party sources. In addition, I wonder if you might advise as to whether the new sources delineate that within the Software Communications Architecture and Software Defined Radio industries, the Spectra product range is recognised as notable... Many thanks, Slindley61 (talk) 09:34, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

thanks, thanks, and thanks[edit]

i see you have been busy on the 3ho thing. there was discussion on the yogi bharjan talk page between rick ross, a cult expert and fatha, the article's 'webmaster'. mr. ross was rebuffed by fatha concerning bhajan's education. a phd in humanology or psychology? the wikipedia age of aquarius page stated he was a master in aquarian humanology. yogi bhajan also started the guru ram das center for medecine and humanology. is this all a concidence? personally i find the word humanology a very obscure term. i also believe wikipedia is being targeted by 'ghost' editors (3hoers?), see the hari jiwan singh khalsa article, the article creator, and i think there are a couple more at other articles. daan singh Daan singh (talk) 04:58, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

yogi bhajan article[edit]

at the sikhnet website, a 3ho site, a search of yogi bhajan's bio shows that the yogi bhajan wikipedia article is almost verbatum from sikh net. the format (sections), including the 3ho subtitle, "main article: 3ho". copywrite violation? the wikipedia article was was authored by fatha. also in question is yogi bhajan's education in india. the article states he graduated camp college in 1952 and entered indian civil service in 1953, the ny times obituary reported he graduated from punjab university in 1954.??? i saw your talk about citations...i have gone through them one by one. only the ny times obit and the time magazine are the only ones i could verify. daan singh Daan singh (talk) 05:13, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you check the histories, the page here at Wikipedia had reached pretty much its present form by February 2008, while the article on the SikhWiki about Bhajan was written mostly in March 2008. I suspect that the Wikipedia editor who created the article here then extracted it for use on SikhWiki. This is a very common practice. Strictly speaking, it is a violation of the CC-BY-SA licensing since the attribution to Wikipedia is missing, but I doubt the Wikimedia Foundation is going to pursue the matter. article:flow through cascades[edit]

I have written an article under the heading "Flow Through Cascades" And In that article I have assumed two dimensional flow instead of three dimensional flow. But i have mentioned the conditions under which it is possible and all the equations are written according to that conditions. It is made to simplify the study. In all the books that I have referred, too have assumed the same assumptions and derived all the eqautions. Ankushsingla91 (talk) 14:20, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And as I mentioned, those simplifications are fine for a study guide, but Wikipedia is not a study guide. Presenting information that is not actually true isn't really very helpful to anyone. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:58, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Guild of Copy Editors May 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

Participation: Out of 49 people signed up for this drive so far, 26 have copy-edited at least one article. It's a smaller group than last drive, but we're making good progress. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive, largely due to the efforts of Lfstevens and the others on the leaderboard. Thanks to all. We have reduced our target group of articles—January, February, and March 2011—by over half, and it looks like we will achieve that goal. Good progress is being made on the overall backlog as well, with over 500 articles copy-edited during the drive so far. The total backlog currently sits at around 3200 articles.

Hall of Fame: GOCE coordinator Diannaa was awarded a spot in the GOCE Hall of Fame this month! She has copy-edited over 1567 articles during these drives, and surpassed the 1,000,000-word mark on May 5. On to the second million! – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa and Stfg

Question Regarding Article...[edit]

I was wondering if you might be able to tell me why you feel that the article that was written about Justin D. Nutt should be deleted? As an intern at a radio show where Nutt has done interviews me and another intern who have talked with him several times chose to write an article due to the fact he is a notable person and as such should have a wiki-bio on him. Please inform me if there is a way which the article can be written in a manner where you would not feel as though it should be deleted. I ask as this is something that I plan to do for guests of the show that are important, that is either write or edit bios on them.

Shigone1701 (talk) 22:57, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I made my reasons quite clear in my nomination. If my reasons are unclear, perhaps it is because you are not familiar enough with the relevant guidelines. Please read WP:GNG and WP:BIO. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 03:21, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As you can tell by my message no, I am not familiar enough with the relevant guidelines. That would be why I asked what I could do to make it better. I read through the items you suggested and can say that what makes him notable would be the new approach his book and program work from that in primarily studies has shown large improvement than any prior approach. Here is the issue that I have though, is as an article has not yet been produced it makes it impossible to sight this (why I did not include that info in the article.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shigone1701 (talkcontribs) 02:18, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for not responding to this and allowing the article to be deleted. I spent several hours on the article to find and add numerous 3rd party links and also to change the article so that it did not sound like an "advertisement" Yet it was still deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shigone1701 (talkcontribs)
I didn't respond because I had no further advice for you. You asked what you could do to make this article comply with Wikipedia guidelines. In my opinion, there was nothing to be done. The article was written about an author with two completely non-notable books to his credit, who has spent a good deal of time promoting himself, but who has not achieved any real notability. The "numerous third party links" that you added appeared to be to various radio programs on which Nutt appeard to promote his book. This hardly counts as "independent coverage". If I could have improved the article, I would have, but as I felt there was nothing there to salvage, I nominated it for deletion. You were, at all times, free to make a comment on the AFD discussion, but I note that you did not choose to avail yourself of this opportunity. I'm sorry that your hours of work were for nought. In the future you may wish to review the relevant Wikipedia guidelines prior to creating an article to assure that your article will not be deleted. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:57, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Again as I stated I am new to writing on Wikipedia. The further help that could have been given might have been the fact there was a discussion going on. Is there a way to at least access the text to save it so that it can be added back at a later date when I am able to collect more "acceptable" 3rd party links? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shigone1701 (talkcontribs) 16:06, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The very big red notice at the top of the article should have given you sufficient information to understand that a deletion discussion was under way. That notice contains the text "Please share your thoughts on the matter at this article's entry", where the text "this article's entry" is highlighted (generally either red or blue) indicating that it is an active WikiLink. Had you clicked that link, you would have been taken to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Justin D. Nutt, and you would have been able to participate in the discussion. You can still go visit to see what others had to say on the matter.
If you would like the text back to try to make improvements (frankly, I'm not sure how that is possible, but you are free to try), you may contact the deleting administrator (in this case Ron Ritzman (talk · contribs)) and request a copy or the article. Only an administrator is able to do this for you, and I am not one. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:19, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Internet remote base[edit]

Hi, let me explian all the tags on the article.

  1. If you write an entire section of advantages and disadvantages on the matter without properly adding in-line citations, then it looks like an essay instead of an encyclopedic article. Also, you must write who says those are advantages or not.
  2. The lead needs to properly cover all the points detailed on the article body. In its actual state, the lead does not comply with this. See more at WP:LEAD.
  3. Also, as you do not properly reference all the text written, its notability might be in a bad situation, since that the lack of reference might be translated into its inexistence.
  4. The fact that it lacks sources may lead to the belief that the article contains original research.
  5. As a result of what i've explained above, the neutrality of the article is disputed.
  6. The last tag explains itself.

Ravi,
I am going to decline this edit request, because it merely duplicates the changes you've already made to the article that have been reverted. The version of the article you propose would be appropriate for Mr. Naqvi's own personal webpage, but it is not appropriate as a Wikipedia article. It is completely non-neutral, and serves only to praise and promote Mr. Naqvi. If you can point to specific contents of the present page that are factually incorrect, please do so, on Talk:Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, and an independent editor will evaluate the specific requests, but please do not attempt to further completely rewrite the article you Mr. Naqvi's liking. Proposed deletion of Flipjacks[edit]

Please consider allowing this page to remain on the site. It is a fairly new game but it is spreading very quickly and everyone who plays it seems to really enjoy and rate it. The aim is to get this game as widely known as possible so the reason for creating this article is to get as many people as possible to find out about it and to begin playing it.

Thank you for your time, Craig Mooney (co-creator of Flipjacks) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cmooney21 (talkcontribs) 14:34, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In other words, you are using this page to promote this game, which is not allowed. Wikipedia exists to document things that are already notable, not to bolster the notability of otherwise non-notable things. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:36, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Chateau D'Agassac[edit]

I have no objection in principle, but I don't think your draft is there yet.

  • It lacks any independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. It has no reference section at all, and the external links are to the chateau's own site plus a spam link to a sales page. The wine may be notable, not sure about the vineyard, although I'm prepared to be convinced.
  • If the bibliography is intended to be a reference section, rather than further reading, it should be labelled as such. (I suspect you can't do any thing about the lack of in-line references or page numbers, but that's not obligatory).
  • I still think it has a promotional tone. Having the "Best of Wine Tourism" logo is spammy and I suspect that the image is a copyright infringement anyway, why would the chateau own the rights to this logo? No evidence that the BWT organisation has allowed its use, obviously fake claim of self-made?
  • I suspect that the top image is also a copyright violation. It looks like a label or advertising picture, and would therefore be copyright to the company. I see no evidence that the company has released the image under an appropriate licence. The fact that the editor used the company name does not, of course, prove that he owns the rights.
  • As before, the sales link to the Guide Feret is pure spam.
  • A couple of MoS issues. Headings should not be capitalised except for the first word, and should not contain wikilinks — the latter should be moved to the text.

Hope this helps Jimfbleak - talk to me? 05:43, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
