Hi! Well, I am open to any questions as long as I have some time to answer them (I do have some time now :)) I have actually finished a Bachelor's in European Studies and have some interest in the field. I consider myself to be a follower of Europeanism and a Euro optimist, so to speak. That is why I, naturally, support my country's deeper integration into the Union. The same goes for the much needed Schengen accession. I do, however, fear that Bulgaria is hardly ready for the former (for sure) and probably for the latter, as well. I also consider my country's EU accession a bit premature, given its economic and political development at the time. It certainly was a good move from a macro-political perspective, but I just don't think things should be rushed like that. I am really happy with the accession and everything, though. Also I feel pretty optimistic about Schengen and not so for the Eurozone. Thank God, we have to wait 3 years at least prior to accession. This might as well be enough time for one or two necessary reforms and help us avoid any economic downfall. Well, that's about it on this topic. - Umm, where should I start, then? From last to first. The so-called Demographic crisis is irreversible, in my opinion. Social policies in the country are not helping. Nor is economic development, for the matter. It is pretty much the same in most European countries, even such where there are actual conditions for reversing the tendency. The recent census just showed what everybody already knew - the population is declining rapidly and this is especially so for Bulgarians (less so for ethnic Turks within the country and probably the contrary for Roma people). The only thing that could turn it is immigration. And I do not expect any influx of people willing to live here (apart from retired Brits and Germans), while Bulgarian youths will be more and more attracted to study and subsequently work and live in the States or Western Europe. And this is not because of the situation here, but because of the easier access to the West. Min you, I'm not saying things here are bad. They are getting better with time, but there is only some level of "betterness" they could get to. And I do quite enjoy it here. Most of the time :)
As for the Cyrillic. There have been voices that we should change to Latin, but to be fair, those voices were weak and did not last for long. I do not think we will give up on it in the near future, however. Yes, kids do tend to use the Latin when writing (especially on the net), but at a certain age most of them suddenly start defending Cyrillic by all means. You will hardly stumble on a Bulgarian forum on the net which lacks a rule like "Writing in any other script than Cyrillic is strictly forbidden". Moreover, we do bolster as the inventors of the script. Giving up on it you might as well throw your identity out of the window, they say. There is also a lot of nationalism into this, but it, too, seems to be on the decline. My feeling is that most people simply like Cyrillic. We have a certain nostalgic feeling for it, me included. I enjoy writing it and that's pretty much it. We do need a better Romanization system, though. The current one is somewhat sucky :D --Laveol T 12:03, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia.
