Please Review Article

Hi! I have been working on an article you originally deleted and I am hoping it is okay now. Can you please look at it when you have a free moment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Healthy4life/Zona)? Thanks! Healthy4life (talk) 16:37, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Notability of WTFPL

May I solicit your perspective on the issue of notability of WTFPL? Several editors claim that the topic is notable since the software license has been used by several open-source projects. In reviewing cream of mushroom soup, you pointed out (and I agree) that citing instances of a topic to support notability is original research. Thanks! --Beefyt (talk) 16:41, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of Z Corporation article

You have now twice deleted the Z Corporation article I created in seconds - before I even had time to tag them with "hang on." The article contained several third-party references, some of which are used in existing articles not authored by me. It did not contain any promotional information or information about our products - in fact the article was educational, instructional and useful to a large audience of manufacturing folks. How do you justify your deletion? The Stratasys article on the other hand, is completely promotional, no references are provided, yet that article has not been deleted. This feels unfair and arbitrary. It appears as though you are watching for my article posts in order to delete them as quickly as I can create them. How does the article need to change in order for you to leave it posted? In the meantime, you should review the Stratasys article and delete it, as it's clearly in violation of posting guidelines.Asarkof (talk) 18:23, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

WingMakers page deletion

Hi Orangemike, I just noticed you deleted the Wingmakers page on Sept 8th as being blatant advertising. I have been a follower of the WingMakers material for seven years, and particularly have followed strange changes to the website that have occurred. I found the original WingMakers philosophy to be incredibly profound (see <spamlink to copyright violation redacted> for a quick summary). It helped to put a lot of things into perspective for me. I was not at all involved with any aspect of the WingMakers website, and was in fact quite disturbed when I saw the website being changed from its original form starting in 2001. I know that there are at least tens of thousands of people interested in this material and also interested in learning about the strange changes that happened to this material. If you read what was written on the deleted wikipedia WingMakers page (I am one of many who have edited that page), I think you will see that the information given is useful for those who are really questioning who the Wingmakers are and what is going on with the website. I don't believe the page was advertising or even inviting people to visit any particular website. I believe it was more intended as useful information for those who have come across this material, which has been mentioned on many thousands of websites, including a few that I manage. I request for the good of the many who are interested that you consider restoring the page. Thanks for your all the time you put in to making the Wikipedia a better resource. The Page you Deleted

You deleted the page "Lira Luis" that I created. Please know that Ms. Lira Luis and her firm is not affiliated with this page that I created and you deleted. Since I am the creator of this page, I request that you completely take down this page, and not show the reason why you deleted this page in a log that still appears when I "google" Lira Luis. There is no one else that needs to know that this page has been deleted other than me, the creator and I wish this page to be completely taken out of the WIKIPEDIA page so that it does not show up when I do a search on Lira Luis. Since you said that the page I created is not "notable", then I assume no one will care too about why it was deleted from Wikipedia NOR why it was deleted. Please completely take the page down. Do not inform anybody that it does not exist anymore since no one will go there anyway, given that it is not notable, as you say. Please purge everything that is related to the page "Lira Luis". I do not want any WIKIPEDIA stuff coming out when I search for Lira Luis. FanofLiraluis (talk) 17:31, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Works/San Jose

Hey, Works/San Jose is a 30+ year old visual and performance art cultural center in california. It was survived several changes of venue and countless changes of leadership. I don't know how else to convey it's importance to document it's heritage. It was deleted re: A7 ... and I just don't know what else to tell you. Non profit cultural centers should have their histories available to the public to document and preserve. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stevecooley (talkcontribs) 18:37, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Response to your comment on WingMakers page deletion

Hi Orangemike, thanks for your response to my above questions on deletion. You commented, "least of all do we need 'articles' which amount to advertisements for somebody's 'experiment in mythmaking' which has no evidence of notability." Wikipedia's general notablility guideline is "if a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be a suitable article topic." A Google search on the term "WingMakers" at http://www.google.com/search?q=wingmakers shows over 80,000 results from a rich variety of websites. If you explore some of the links there, you will find that numerous chatrooms, forums, and even entire websites independent of the original Wingmakers website have been set up to discuss the fascinating WingMakers material, including on a popular website I manage. As mentioned on the webpage that was deleted, there is even considerable disagreement on the comments that the WingMakers' story is someone's "experiment in mythmaking." You can read about this on the popular website I manage at www.wanttoknow.info/wingmakersorig/wingmakerschanges. There is also a webring group focused on the WingMakers at http://www.webring.com/hub?ring=wingmakers. Is there a way to tell how many independent chatrooms and forums are focused on a topic? If so, I suspect you will find that there are over 100 such sources focused specifically on the WingMakers material, some on very respectable websites. Exploring the many Google results, you will also find a book, music, and online videos dealing with the WingMakers. A number of individuals like myself who were deeply moved by the WingMakers philosophy presented on the original website have also written extensively on other websites about this philosophy and how it has positively influenced our lives. If you agree that this establishes notability, I would appreciate your reinstating the article. If not, please give specifics on how you feel this wikipedia page is not notable. I also don't believe the webpage was intending to advertise the Wingmakers website, particularly as evidenced by disagreements mentioned there where recommendations are given to view alternate viewpoints on other websites. Thanks for your time and your efforts to maintain the integrity of Wikipedia. Fredburks (talk) 01:12, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Why did you decide to block this user so quickly? What I expected, was that the user would have a user name change, so that it wouldn't appear to promote something, and the article to be revised to a neutral point of view. -- IRP 01:44, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Competition Cams Article

  • Reply - While I truly appreciate your comments and advice, I do hope that you have noticed the change of writing style in my article. I understand your opinion and I agree, which is why I completely erased and re-wrote the article to make sure there was no second person, or any other style of advertorial-type writing. I also write PR, company reports, and brochures. Therefore, I am not ignorant to the factual, observational style of writing. Nevertheless, I truly appreciate your advice and your opinion. I simply ask for your patience, as this is my first article and I have worked endlessly on edits for both accuracy and neutrality. Thanks again.

Hi, As some people above I would be grateful for you assistance in improving the article I wrote on the GROW model in coaching to be reinstated. I am not sure what aspects counted as advertising but would be pleased to amend the article to try and improve it. I am sure most people do not like having their work deleted but I feel that the GROW model deserves an entry. It is taught in many coaching schools and companies as a practical and thorough way of helping others with problems and challenges and while not infallible does work in a large number of cases. I would be happy to provide information on how and where it is applied if that is helpful. Without being evangelical it can really make a difference when individuals feel stuck so I would like to get the entry back so others know about it. This was my first entry so any guidance would be appreciated. Bob Coachuk (talk) 11:45, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Compared to the attitudes of a lot of the genuine combat veterans I've known, from my late father (U.S. Army, Americal Division; Silver and Bronze Stars earned in the liberation of the Philippines) to my Vietnam veteran swordbrother and roommate with the PTSD who committed suicide, I'm almost inclined to think he was one of those garritroopers Bill Mauldin identified: "They're too far forward to wear ties an' too far back to git shot". The Vietnam version got their own song, "Garet Trooper," in Barry Sadler's Ballads of the Green Berets. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:36, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Deletion

Orange. Please don't start on your deletion spree. There is a current drive to work on Nordic film which has recently had a new task force started. Danish films and actors have been started by numerous people today and they will all be expanded given time. Try googling the actress and you'll see many dnaish sites which could help expand the article substantially and assert notabilty. It is just a starter article. The Bald One White cat 21:21, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

The notice was fine, the speedy tag even if eligible wasn't really, given that you know that I don't start articles these days unless they can be expanded immediately and are of some encyclopedic value. It needed a {notabililty) tag rather than a speedy. I know they are very basic starter articles but they will be expanded given time. User:CactusWriter for one is extensively working on this subject. I know you don't go on "deletion sprees" but you have to admit you are involved in a lot of deletions, even if the vast majority of the time you are completely corretc in doing so. I'll se eif I can get it expanded from danish. Cheers The Bald One White cat 21:29, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

WingMakers Deletion Miscategorized

Hi Orangemike. Thanks for your further comments. You deleted the WingMakers article with the tag blatant advertisement. Your most recent comment is about notability. As mentioned in my previous messages, the WingMakers article presents various differing points of view about this material from a variety of editors, without promoting any one of these over the others, nor is any particular website promoted over the others. I am one of the editors who presented information that the WingMakers material is not an experiment in mythmaking and added several references to support this. I would appreciate it if at the very least you would change the tag on your reason for deletion. Thanks. Fredburks (talk) 21:39, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

OM's knowledge of Wikipedia rules, regs and the overall concept is pretty formidable and in the long run I have come to respect his opinion. If he calls you on something you probably need to better understand the rules yourself rather than shouting at him. Hi Orangemike,

You've deleted the "The Ballads (Mariah Carey album)" wiki I've attempted to recreate yesterday despite already having been deleted per consensus. However, I do feel that the version I've uploaded yesterday meets the guidelines mentioned in Wikipedia: Wikiproject Albums, and I even have got (official) sources to support the release of the album. GROW Model redux

Hi Mike, Thanks for your speedy response about notability regarding the GROW model. I will do some research on how the model has been tested by academic institutions. I feel a bit stymied by your question as to whether it has been written up in any peer reviewed scientific journals. I do not know of any magazines of that type that deal with the area of development of human potential, goal setting or problem solving. If you could give an example of the type of magazine you think it could be written up in I would be grateful. BobCoachuk (talk) 18:24, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of the "Vic Firth" page should be reconsidered.

You have recently deleted the article about Vic Firth, a leading music company that designs and manufactures percussion equipment. This was a mistake. Vic Firth is a HUGE name in the music community. Walk into any music store and you will find hundreds of Vic Firth sticks. Just because you personally are not familiar with the company does not mean that the article should be deleted. "Vic Firth" when searched through google yields 2,890,000 results which includes both the music company and the gourmet cooking 'sister' company.

Perhaps you deleted the article a little too hastily without a firm understanding of Vic Firth. I plead that you reconsider your deletion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.239.164.62 (talk) 22:32, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Deelete too speedy!

Wow. I just created the page for Twelve Canoes. I got the speedy delete tag, immediately put the hang on tag there and began to type a justification on the talk page as requested and before I could save it, the article was deleted by you. What's the point of the hang on if you don't hang on? We're talking maybe less than 5 minutes. --Mat Hardy (talk) 00:21, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
Good intentions and noble motives do not create notability Gee. Thanks for the patronising message on my talk page. But the hang on tag is there precisely to allow for an appeal. You obviously hadn't bothered with the appeal since the article was deleted before I had saved the justification message on the discussion page. It seems like over-zealous deletion is your particular kick in life, judging by all the above messages. There was no time allowed for me to put in citations or any further explanation. --Mat Hardy (talk) 00:42, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
If you Google 12 Canoes you get quite a lot of returns for it, mainly from international film review sites etc. As to why I hadn't included further evidence of notability straight off, that is kind of the essence of my complaint. I never got the chance. Articles here can't be complete right from their first save. I laid out the gist of the article and saved it. While I was going back to start adding in citations I got the Speedy tag. I immediately went into the talk page to request a hang on (as the tag suggested) and before I could save that, the article was gone. Total elapsed time maybe 5 minutes. THIS is what I'm bitching about. I have no problem with the due process of articles for deletion, as long as its applied with common sense and allows the chance of reply. --Mat Hardy (talk) 03:51, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

12 Canoes is a seriously notable Australian Movie - made by and of native Original Residents, and has received massive International acclaim. I suppose it has gone unnoticed in the USA media, that sort of thing is normal. FoolesTroupe (talk) 23:07, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

I don't want to undo your deletion, but if we drop in the following refs, I think the article should be fine.

Maddox, Garry (September 8, 2008), "Now locals can paddle their own canoe", The Sydney Morning Herald

Tan, Zona Marie (August 9, 2008), "12 Canoes goes live", Inside Film

Also, I hope you don't feel like I'm stalking you, since I've butted in a couple of your actions recently - I just have your talk page on my watchlist and I like to save articles when they can be saved. Also, when doing a search regarding A7 deletions, I recommend using a service like Google News or other news search - it often turns up good results where a standard search just churns out Myspace, blogs and the like. -Chunky Rice (talk) 23:58, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

My tiredness - correction - 10 Canoes was the original Movie - 12 Canoes is a development OF that which is highly notable. Orangemike - I intended you no disrespect. On the Help Desk "Over Zealous Uncontrolled Rapid Deletion Thru Ignorance" section I have stated things in a more lengthy manner (including the massive number of informative Google returns on this website) regarding this article. Ignorance is not a crime, NOR is pointing it out - except in US Politics and Wikipedia, The Fount of All Internet Knowledge, perhaps :-). FoolesTroupe (talk) 00:42, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

On further investigation, 12 Canoes is actually the sequel to 10 Canoes. They're just using a multimedia platform instead of a pure cinematic feature film. --Mat Hardy (talk) 00:14, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for looking closer guys. FoolesTroupe (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 08:35, 30 September 2008 (UTC).

Greenplum deletion without discussion

Greenplum page deletion:

Orange Mike - it appears you have deleted the Greenplum page without discussion.

This is a significant company in many respects, handling the world's largest databases currently in the Petabytes of data scale for customers including MySpace, NYSE, and many others. It is also a world-wide company of significance in China, India and throughout Southeast Asia (Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia).

The company is also the first to have pioneered an open standard with Google's MapReduce that combines SQL processing with unstructured analysis that scales to 1000's of processors.

Greenplum is one of the top three commercial providers of data warehouse database software.

If you have issues with the content of the page, one of the contributors will work it out with you, but I believe you should re-instate the page immediately pending such a discussion.

Luke Lonergan (talk) 04:42, 18 September 2008 (UTC) Luke Lonergan (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

There were no such assertions of notability in the article. In addition, there were very few citations to reliable, impartial third-party sources.
Also: what parts of our conflict of interest policies do you not understand, Luke Lonergan, Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of Greenplum and primary author/editor of the article in question? --Orange Mike | Talk 16:15, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

And exactly how does this justify your deletion of this article without discussion?

If you prefer, I will have someone else provide arguments to the same effect as part of the discussion related to deletion of the article, but that would presume there is a discussion.

Luke Lonergan (talk) 05:32, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Maximgr (talk) 09:47, 1 October 2008 (UTC) I also agree with Luke Lonergan. Greenplum has a significant impact on today's database technologies. Look, for example, at blog of Curt Monash, a leading analyst and strategic advisor to the software industry: http://www.dbms2.com/2008/08/25/greenplum-is-in-the-big-leagues/

I strongly believe that articles about companies/products of even smaller importance are not to be deleted from Wikipedia.

After reading through your bio, I came up with a slightly different view: you didn't read or comprehend the importance of my suggestion. Advice sought

Hey Orangemike, I am seeking your opinion as I recall you as having a pretty reasonable POV amidst a pretty heated content debate a while back. To sum up, months ago I came across a BLP of someone I hadn't the foggiest idea who they were. Did a little research and became increasingly apparent it was a self promotional job. Tagged for potential COI and let it sit. Recently happened to come back to it and saw no significant changes that improved the sourcing so I thought it could at least stand going up for an afd. Afd got closed as a keep despite an attempt to bring some actual policy discussion into it [[1]], talked to the admin that closed it and just got a "consensus was reached" and I could take it to deletion review if I wanted. Looking at deletion review it seemed kind of pointless unless it was some kind process fluke so I figured whatever but thought I would at least remove the material and sources that were clearly self-published explain why and updated the improvement tags. So a couple days ago someone comes a long and essentially restores everything back to it's previous state with no explanation. I reverted and again cited the relevant policy behind it only to find it all back the next day with the comment my edit was overzealous. Saw it easily escalating so today posted a note on the 3RR board making it clear I was not reporting a violation as much as trying to bring in some other voices on the issue as we were both about to hit our 3 edit limit. Before I even finished posting an admin I find a message on my talk page stating WP:SPS is not relevant here and was out of line for reverting the other person's edits. Interestingly he left no message for the other user and reverts it to his last version. Then another admin responds to my 3RR post and basically says something to the effect "I was already about to ban him for edit warring over the past few days because he hasn't made any other recent. Now I confess may not be able to spend as much time editing on Wikipedia as much as I'd like but wasn't aware the amount of articles you edit played into whether you get banned or not. What I do try to make an to do is read up on the relevant policies and guidelines before taking any action and thought I was accurate in citing WP:SPS and WP:SELFPUB # 3 and WP:BURDEN yet no one seems interested in providing any reasoning behind their actions. Am I missing something here? Thanks. Tmore3 (talk) 06:40, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Nteulogo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Nteulogo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 10:30, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Kozakken Boys

I noticed that you speedied the article Kozakken Boys about a month ago. I can't view the deleted content from this account, so I was wondering if you could copypaste it to my user talk page. I'm confident that the article did qualify for A7, but being Dutch I also know that the club in itself is notable enough for a Wikipedia article. Aecis·(away) talk 12:41, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

In that case the link was incorrect. The Kozakken Boys are in the Saturday Hoofdklasse B, one of six divisions/leagues of the Hoofdklasse, the highest tier of amateur football in the Netherlands and the third tier of Dutch football in general. The club is also a regular contender in the Dutch cup (were beaten by Ajax after extra time in the second round last year). Aecis·(away) talk 13:52, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for the e-mail, I'll write an article that makes the notability of the club clearer :) Aecis·(away) talk 14:10, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for helping clean up Matt Hazard article

I'm still really new at the process of starting an article from scratch, so I'm sorry if I left things a bit sloppy in there. I really do appreciate the time you've taken to help though, so I just wanted to say thanks for that. Sorry also if I directed any earlier anger at you, I very much felt like everyone was telling me I was doing it wrong, and no one was helping to fix it. --Blinkstale (talk) 01:29, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Part of the trouble psychologically is that many of us here are committed to truth and verifiability, whereas viral marketing is based on elaborate deliberate hoaxes and lies of the sort we associate with the Soviet Union and other totalitarian systems. It smelled to us like you might be trying to spread that viral marketing campaign to Wikipedia. --Orange Mike | Talk 01:34, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
That's fair, but I did do my best, outside of citing every last article in the first draft (which I guess I'll have to do before I ever press the submit button ever again), to make sure you guys all knew it was a character in a real game based on a fake history. I just don't see it as much different from Star Wars IV being the first released, so it took me by surprise how poorly people received the idea of an article about it/him. But yes, I understand now why you, in particular, without thorough proof, thought the way you did and took the action you did regarding said article, and I hope that means everything is cleared up so that the article can finally get some life. --Blinkstale (talk) 01:40, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

I could use an admin's opinion on Seraphic Trust Bank

Hi OM!

This isn't really relevant to you as such, but you're an admin I've spoken to before and I figured I'd like to get an admin's opinion on whether this is important or not...

I've come across an article, Seraphic Trust Bank, that was created on the 22 September by an editor who's created/edited nothing else. The article's claims don't match the claims made on the company's website, and I've tagged the article as such. However, I'm slightly more concerned about the company itself is legitimate: the website cited on the article is UK website (.co.uk), but the company appears to be based in Virginia. A google search lists a different website (.net) with an identical home-page, but the links are broken. My gut tells me the company is a phishing scam, but I don't know how to verify that.

Could you take a look at the article (and the accompanying website) and let me know if any further action is needed?

Cheers,  This flag once was red  02:06, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

PS. The irony of two wobs investigating what claims to be a private bank is not lost on me... ;-)

Thanks a lot - hoax makes sense.

Milwaukee politics

Hey, noticed your recent reversion on Milwaukee, Wisconsin... I was going to say that, based on looking at the diffs the IP's version did seem more concise and possibly more NPOV (although strangely, looking at the section as is now without the red words, it doesn't seem so bad, go figure) (And I'll grant that the IP's edit summary was definitely not particularly civil). Anyway..

My main comment here, the reference to "Emily's List" there on the importance of the primaries is broken. I'm new to the area, and so wouldn't have a clue where to find a suitable replacement source, so I thought I'd throw a heads-up your way. (Also, not sure what "Emily's List" is, but I have to wonder if it really satisfies WP:RS?) Best, umrguy42 21:44, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

vCPM

Hey Orangemike,

I apologize. I didn't realize that wikipedia didn't have a place for concepts. I guess I will return when the term vCPM is more widely used throughout the online video industry. Unless you have any suggestions as to how it may be a good fit for Wikipedia as is...

Hey Orange Mike,

I see you deleted the page I created for T-Minus 321. I totally understand guidelines regarding new articles a bit better now after you shared the UpAndComing article. I appreciate you applying a valid description as to why you deleted it. I previously attempted to start the article and it was quickly deleted by another user with a pretty poor reason/answer for its deletion. When you get a moment, could you point me in the direction of an article that states when a new artist-related article is worthy of inclusion? I'd appreciate it. After the author re-added the article, and it went back up RfSD, the author removed the db, and added hangon. I re-added the db tag, and then talked to the author. Rob ihasz

Hi, I nominated and you speedy deleted a new article, Rob ihasz. That was based on its state when I saw it. But I suspect that it may have started as a valid article which a quick vandal got to before I saw it. I was just going back to look at it when I discovered that you had already deleted it. If it's not too much trouble, would you take a look at it, and restore it if appropriate? I apologize for not checking first, but it was a brand new page created by a brand new user which was vandalism when I saw it. Thanks, MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 21:09, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for checking. When I saw in the history that an IP had gotten to it before I tagged it, I just wanted to make sure, since you had deleted it before I got a chance to see the original. I've changed the author's talk page (which had my speedy deletion vandalism notice) to reflect that the article failed to establish notability. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 18:14, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Sharon Howarth

Hi Orange Mike,

You deleted Sharon Howarth (Green Party candidate for Toronto-Danforth) for lack of demontrated notability. Since then, two things have happened. She's appeared on television[1] in connection with a minor scandal[2] reported nationally[3] involving Jack Layton, a leader of a national party in Canada, and she's just appeared in the The Star[4] (major Toronto newspaper) today as possibly the greatest threat to Jack Layton's seat ... ahead of the Liberal candidate, who would normally be the obvious challenger.

Daughter of Bilitis / SF

Hi, this sentence has been challanged during Good article nomination:
"Members of science fiction fandom (including Forrest J Ackerman) were involved in the foundation of early groups such as the Daughters of Bilitis, a lesbian rights group."
I vaguely remember you're adding it. If it came from you, do you remember the source? The histories of the organisation i've read don't mention anything about SF at all, so maybe it is in a Sf source?

For now i've removed it, so it wont hinder promotion, but would be nicer to include it with a source. Thanks!Yobmod (talk) 10:26, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Whoops, forgot to mention it was in Homosexuality in SF. I saw there is a print source in the Forrest J Ackerman article, but didn't know which part of the sentence in there was cited (that he helped with publishing and/or is an honorary lesbian :-) ). I'll add it with that and the ladder source. thanks!Yobmod (talk) 09:14, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Speedy Delete Criteria

I'm kind of new at this - I'm trying to help where I can but I could do with some hints once and a while. Basically, here I was wondering if you could clue me in as to why that was a bad speedy, and what makes a good speedy? My understanding was that A7 provides for speedy delete for any kind of real life person/organization/company etc that has no indication that its subject is important. Was this not the case for the article in question, or was there something else I missed? Thanks for the help! Maethordaer (talk) 02:27, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Yay, Thank you. RockManQ (talk) 03:13, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

You deleted this as G6, but it had previously been deleted and was just restored by another admin. You probably didn't notice that, for this is therefore not uncontroversial maintenance to remove it. It could be argued that it [provides a useful historical record of Wikipedia. I have accordingly restored it to facilitate matters, but of course you can take it to MfD. DGG (talk) 14:55, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I found it while checking through some deleted contributions. As far as I can tell, it seems to have been an automated log of unsuccessful search results. I can think of no reason that it should be inaccessible to non-admins, which is all deletion does. In fact I'll move it to a subpage of Wikipedia:Historical archive. Graham87 04:38, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Deletion in error: "Works by the U. S. government are not eligible for U. S. copyright protection."

As I understand the log entry, you deleted the page "Satire by Vic Morrow" for "G 12: Blatant copyright infringement". As noted on the deleted page, the work in question was produced by a Department of the United States government--this can be verified by viewing the work itself at the link referenced in the page. Furthermore, recall what is published at http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html#piu where the copyright office of the U. S. government itself states, "Works by the U. S. government are not eligible for U. S. copyright protection." Therefore, it seems to me that there is no infringement--blatant or otherwise--and that the page should be restored.

I am sorry, if I misunderstood your objection, but based on my understanding, the article should be restored.

mjk (talk) 18:59, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for listening to my arguments and restoring the article (for the time being). Submissions to publishers have been rejected for lack of notability through the ages and around the world. And I can accept this. But I would hate to be thought of as a blatant copyright infringer--so I thank you for your fairness in reconsidering that judgment.--mjk (talk) 07:04, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Deletion due to lack of reliable source?

OK, apparently you deleted Satire by Vic Morrow because the referenced source is hosted by an unreliable source (YouTube).

  1. The work itself--not the provider--claims that it is the product of the U. S. government. This claim (and the title of the work) is embedded in the work at about 3'19" both visually and aurally. There is no copyright claim anywhere--indeed, there can be none for a government work--but there is a clear statement that the work was produced by the Social Security Administration. Is this a Wikipedia Catch-22 that requires copyright proof for works that cannot be copyrighted?
  2. How does the posited unreliability of the provider break the assertion of provenance of the work itself?
  3. Do you contend that the work is counterfeit? I believe that it meets any reasonable prima facie test of authenticity.
  4. I do not believe the work could have come from anywhere; I believe, based on its content, that it comes from the U. S. government, and is therefore copyright-free.
  5. Do you think the title is bad? Perhaps "Satire of Last Year at Marienbad by Vic Morrow" is clearer. The words are his own, perhaps "send-up" instead of "satire".
  6. Do you think the article is not of interest? The Vic Morrow page was viewed over 200,000 times in 200809. True, Last Year at Marienbad was visited merely 3,800 times last month, but it is a Golden Lion winner. I suspect that there would indeed be interest.
  7. "Etc." You have other objections, I see. What might they be?

I greatly respect your efforts to keep Wikipedia the great resource that it is. It is because of the results of those efforts that I wish to contribute to it myself. I feel that I have taken care in sourcing, writing, editing, and linking an article, which in a very small way usefully expands the content.

  • The reference is of a respectable length, and it's from a reliable source, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, so I think the article would pass the general notability guideline. -- Eastmain (talk) 03:18, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

south carolina college of pharmacy

Orange Mike, I submitted the South Carolina College of Pharmacy page to correct something wrong on the Wikipedia site.

If you search for pharmacy schools, it gives you a list by country and by state. The University of South Carolina is listed twice, with a campus at the Medical University of South Carolina and a campus at the University of South Carolina. That is incorrect. USC has no campus at MUSC. In fact, this is like saying there is a Pepsi department at Coke.

The pharmacy colleges at USC and MUSC merged four years ago to form the South Carolina College of Pharmacy, which has a campus at each place as well as one in Greenville. Such a merge has never been done in the history of pharmacy education, which I think is pretty notable.

There are a number of other colleges of pharmacy that do have Wikipedia entries, several with substantially less information than our submission. Please reconsider your deletion or give me more information about how I can improve our submission.

Thanks!

I merely was passing on a message from the Saatchi Gallery as they did not know how to contact Wiki directly, and they know I sometimes contribute. Perhaps ill judged by me to be a messanger, something I will definitely consider in future. It seems there are 2 separate issues that are of concern 1)tone of my contributions which I am happy to take on board any criticism, and edit/rewrite appropriately or under guidance. 2)content issues. Please could you have a look at the discussion section on the Saatchi Gallery page, I noticed the Saatchi Gallery have left a message for an official Wiki representative to get in touch with them. Deletion of ' 'Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care' ' Article

Hello Orangemike:

I am troubled by the fact that you deleted this article as "blatant advertising." The AAAHC is a reputable, non-profit organization that accredits medical centers performing outpatient surgery; plastic surgery centers, dermatologists, opthalmologists, college health centers, the U.S Coastguard, the U.S. Air Force etc. It performs an essential social function in ensuring that these health care organizations meet nationally-recognized standards. As a result, it helps preserve patient safety.

What is a little puzzling to me is the fact that AAAHC does exactly the same for office-based surgery centers that the Joint Commission does for hospitals. Yet the Joint Commission has an article on Wikipedia. In fact, in that article is a list of other accrediting health care associations. So it seeems somewhat inconsistent that you deleted the AAAHC article.

deletion of Ballet Nouveau Colorado

Thank you for the heads up on how to sign. As for Ballet Nouveau, I don't understand how it was an advert. It was simply a rundown of the organization with the references to articles written about the company. As I was adding more factual information, it was deleted. BNC has been selected for Dance Magazine's 2009 25 to watch - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dance_Magazine%27s_%2225_to_Watch%22 which is very notable in the dance community. It has also been hailed as one of the top dance companies in Colorado and one of the best schools. They are also known for their work in outreach. Could you help us (samuronin and myself) understand how to convey it's notablity faster so it does not get deleted? Thank you THDju (talk) 21:41, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Okay so no mission statements. That kinda sounds funny to me. If one is to understand the value of an organization, don't you want to know their mission statement? But okay, if that is your rule, then we must go by it. THDju (talk) 21:49, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Wow... that was harsh and mean. Especially since I know this organization guides their decisions by their mission statement. It becomes five questions for them - Does it show passion? Does it have integrity? Does it have artistic excellence? Will it be inspiring? Will it be life-changing? But I get it. You hate mission statement. Consider us educated to the ways of your wikipedia. Thank you for taking the time. THDju (talk) 21:54, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of Pat's Hubba Hubba w/o a proposal first

hi - very surprised that you deleted this article without any discussion. this seems hasty. it wasn't particularly well written, but it certainly went beyond mere "blatant advertising" and included reliable sources such as The New York Times. i think it deserved a clean-up tag and a chance at a re-write before being erased with no community input. J. Van Meter (talk) 07:27, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

no problem -- i'd been meaning to clean it up for a while anyway; you just forced my hand ! actually, the place is considered an institution. it's been around forever (at least three generations at this point). according to people who eat there, the media attention is warranted. here's somebody's picture of the interior (from flickr). RE: Conflict of Interest : I don't believe there is any conflict of interest as I am not employed by Elfster or anything. It's just a cool service that exists and that is even already mentioned right there: Secret Santa, and that deserves an article like any other mentionable networking websites (such as Dogster or Ning or Friendster or whatever). I realize now that writing a whole article in Wikipedia is much more difficult than it seems and that good intentions don't necessarily show. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joliette (talkcontribs) 23:25, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey! YOU!!

I'm John Wansted, one of Alberto's friends, and I'm currently on holiday using this IP. Apparently, Alberto (Mister Alcohol) has been complaining that this beer glass image has been deleted. I am writing this on behalf of him. You should have known that Alberto would be changing the tag to a proper one. Also, Alberto said that he actually created it himself and published it on the Internet in the late 90s. If you restore the image, Alberto will change the tag. Thanks for reading. — John Wansted on 92.16.12.245 (talk) 17:31, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Why should he? He's not wasting his time on a new upload, Mike. Please restore it. Alberto expects it restored so he can do it DIRECTLY when he has more time. Cheers! — John Wansted on 92.16.12.245 (talk) 17:39, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Page Deletion (Pharmasurveyor)

Hi OrangeMike - I am coming back to working Wiki after a long hiatus, so please bear with any small mistakes I may make. I am going to place the "{{hangon}}" in the correct place, assuming I can find it.

The key issue that perplexes me with the advertisement/spam property is that the standards are apparently applied somewhat ad hoc and with double standards. It is true that Pharmasurveyor is a company and a product, but advertisement is not the primary purpose for placing it in Wiki. It is a freely available web based application and service. It also has enormous positive user value for many users (saving lives...) but we can leave the ethical can of worms aside and stick with the fundamental norms underlying Wiki here (encyclopedic resource of information on all things...).

Naturally, we need to draw lines somewhere, but unless you ascribe to a different sort of logic than the rest of the world (not meant provocatively but sincerely), then if one article legitimately exists with properties A, B, C, then it should follow that another article meeting those properties should also be accepted. In this case, I notice that Google (to say nothing of Google Health!} has a well-developed entry. This seems the appropriate analogue here to Pharmasurveyor. Both are for profit companies that are web based, but both are also services offered freely to the public. Both profit from visits... but that is a secondary matter (or?).

If you will bear with me, I would like to develop the pharmasurveyor entry in a larger context of web based services and applications related to health. Many people are asking questions about these services (and then naturally turning to Wiki for answers when they learn about such services). So, I would like to see an ontology of such services (along with an appropriate schema) created. I began with Pharmasurveyor as a seed here, largely because I am most familiar with it at present.

If you have some further thoughts on this, please let me know - I am sure we can work something out here.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Improvement of Ballet Nouveau Colorado

I apologize for the appearance of the article as a sales brochure or magazine article. I did do some touch ups after you as well. I added back information on donor Don Ferguson but it has been significantly edited so as not to appear or be "egostroking." I feel his partnership with the organization has been a key element to its development. I also apologize for the "linkfarm", this was not my intention. I did add back a couple of links after your removal though because again I feel they are important. An example would be the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts as it is the organization that has certified the ballet school at BNC. Also wouldn't BNC's myspace and perhaps also its facebook profiles be pertinent? When I saw the myspace profile mentioned in one article (and subsequently found the facebook one when I decided to check) I believed that links to them would be helpful to glean more information on the organization under different conditions then simply the official website. I will put them in the info box at the top of the page, perhaps that is more appropriate. If not please let me know. Thank you again for your assistance and input. --Samuronin (talk) 15:26, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

I see what you're saying, those links were too general and since mentioned in the article, not necessary in the external links section. I removed the external links section entirely since the only thing there was the main site, which can be accessed through the infobox. --Samuronin (talk) 15:33, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Good idea on crafting an article for the other pages, I actually was considering it, I'd just have to do some more research. Thanks. --Samuronin (talk) 15:35, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
OH, I apologize. I did not realize this. As I'm sure is painfully obvious I am still learning. I was worried it'd be redundant however it does make sense to have the link available for someone as they come to the end of the page. --Samuronin (talk) 15:39, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Proud Simon

This band has been growing on the New York City/Brooklyn Indie Rock Scene for almost 5 years now, and with multiple professional album releases (I've been told printing has been in the thousands) and performances in high-profile venues such as the Bowery Ballroom in Lower Manhattan.

I agree with user yrletter that this is content that is relevant towards the emerging Indie Rock scene of Brooklyn, NYC, and thusly should be allowed as an addition.

Any attempts to delete seem unnecessary, as wikipedia is a free-form encyclopedia and thus should document current arts and events, not just those of established history. Thanks!

CDMV the443 —Preceding unsigned comment added by The443 (talkcontribs) 20:28, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the words of wisdom. Up-and-coming certainly is a disputable term. The reason for inclusion of Proud Simon to the Wikipedia database is based on current press, radio plays, tour schedule, recent performances, and upward-mobility of their new record, a follow up to a well-received debut. CMJ, the organization responsible for bringing together musicians around the country to play in New York City, recently listed the upcoming release of their new album. The band has 5+ year history playing all over New York and surrounding areas, including shows at high-profile venues like Pianos and the Bowery Ballroom. They are represented by PR company Team Clermont from Athens Georgia, the company behind acts such as Ruby Isle, Pattern is Movement, and many others. Wikipedia is a place to find meaningful, verifiable information. With its recent activity, as well as past history, Proud Simon qualifies as an established band in a very relevant independent scene. Thanks for the consideration, I hope to see Proud Simon posted to the site. Any suggestions for additional references are certainly welcome. Emma-Kate Francis deletion

Hi OrangeMike, Just thought I would post to discuss the deletion of the Emma-Kate Francis. I totally understand the need to keep the notability of people on Wikipedia high but I feel Emma-kate deserves to be on the site. She had a masters with honours from the Royal College of Art London, possibly the most famous arts colleges in the world. She represented them on TV as part of the Innovation Project with her spork project and has since been given a bursary in recognition by The famous Goldsmiths Company of being one of the best young silversmiths in the UK. She has also featured in some of the biggest design magazines in the world including wallpaper www.wallpaper.com and Elle Decoration. She is also creating a buzz online in the US recently on stylehive.com and thisnext.com. She has also been quoted by Jo Carnegie the deputy editor of heat magazine (the UK's biggest gossip mag) as her and one of london's favourite jewellers in WM Magazine. Link to this article can be posted if you want to see it. She is obviously not Tracey Emin or James Dyson but is a definitely worthy of being on this site. Take a look at the silverware she produces www.ekfrancis.com/silverware Look forward to hearing your comments. Wow, seems like you have a strong dislike for the place. Everyone I have spoken to who attends or attended college says the same. That does not, in my view, take anything away from the standard of the institution as a whole. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.75.179.51 (talk) 14:06, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of CT Connect

A tag has been placed on CT Connect, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 19:10, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Page Deletion

Mike hello. I see that you deleted the page I created for Tracy Mattes and the reason was blatent advertising. Could you tell me what links or information needs to be removed so that it will not be seen as blatent advertising. Most of the information I gathered were from reliable sources, both individuals, US Olympic Committee, Track & Field News Magazine, Universities, and various news sources. I tried to look at other world class athlete sites and follow suit by backing it up with links and news sources. Again, please advise of what needs to be removed, I will remove it immediately, so I can redo the site. Thank you very much for your guidance and advice here. Again, I am a former Wisconsin Track coach and I tried to follow the guidelines as close as I could. Obviously was way off base.

Also, where do I find your reply? Here or in my talk box? I will check both.

Sorry I forgot to sign, here it is, also don't know if should include name/advertising.

Thank you Librarybookers My talk (Librarybookers (talk) 19:40, 24 October 2008 (UTC)).

Speedy deletion of Deborah Magid

Dear Mike, My page should be reinstated - which I'm doing now - because I have world-level credits and because I am mentioned in other Wiki pages. Numerous people have Googled me, and asked why I don't appear in the pages of Wikipedia when others with far lower profiles, do, and I am responding to these requests. If you want to call this self-aggrandisement, fine, but to say that my writing is patent nonsense is simply an insult. If my page truly does not meet Wikipedia criteria, fine, but please don't insult me - or yourself - in the process. Kind regards, Deb Magid Smmslt (talk) 19:34, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Deletion question

This article about The Quiet Ones has been speedied twice and almost immediately recreated. There's still no evidence of notability, but is there a deletion process that can keep this article from being recreated? Flowanda | Talk 20:03, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

notability of Deborah Magid

The guidelines state: If an article fails to cite sufficient sources to demonstrate the notability of its subject, look for sources yourself, or:

Ask the article's creator or an expert on the subject[7] for advice on where to look for sources. Put the {{Notability}} tag on the article to alert other editors. To place a dated tag, put a {{Notability}} tag. If the article is about a specialized field, use the {{Expert-subject}} tag with a specific WikiProject to attract editors knowledgeable about that field, who may have access to reliable sources not available online.

The first and third of these criteria have not been observed, and as to the first, it has been asked and answered. Please stop trying to delete the entry about me. Thank you. Smmslt (talk) 20:25, 24 October 2008 (UTC) Thank you for the guidelines (3) and I apologize for making the assumption, since your name appeared to be attached to the original deletion warning, that it was you who had inserted it. I'll look up MisterWiki. As to self-promotion, I placed the article in response to the requests of others who do not have access to creating articles. This feels very Catch-22. Tracy Mattes

"her athletic accomplishments, combined with her All-American good looks"? That's an ad, not an article.

Hello Mike. I see exaclty what you mean here. I actually took this quote from a website. Beign a Wisconsinite, I see your point about the big guns, but I must say, she had a heck of Track Career in Wisconsin, is in the Hall of Fame, along side some of those guys, and what is more impressie than her athletic caerres, is what she did off the track, by using her the success she did have as an athlete and the notarity she did gain. Walt Disney doesn't just sponsor a nobody. She was named appointed UN Special Representative and has built "Thank you Small Libraries" in more than 40 countries for kids around the world, has funded many forums and projects relating to sport, peace and develpment, she founded the first International Olympic Training Center in Europe, so athletes have a place to train, sleep, eat and get sports med while they are in Europe competing on the circuts, which will is scheduled to open in Monaco in 2012, and just now is nominated for a Sport Humanitarian Hall of Fame. That is like the Nobel Prize for athletes.

While many of our Wisconsinites were great atheltes, some were just that. I am not undermining that at all. My point is that Tracy was unique in that she goes way beyond just a world class athlete. I wrote the article on her, because although she had in my opinon a great track career, a terrible car accident prevented her from qualifying for the Olympic Games, She was ranked 7th in the world at the time. And I, and many beleive she would have qualified. But the inspiring part is what she did after that,. She could have just felt bad for herself and quit and got a regular job. But since then everything she has done she has excelled at and it has all been trying to help other people. There aren't alot of athletes that have doen what she has done in a combination of on and off the field. I am proud she is a Wisconsinite. I quite frankly am sick of some of reading about some of these over paid, show off athletes with their drugs, sex, drinking and down right lousy image to our children. Who are labeled as having notariaty. I have 4 kids, all aspiring athletes. In fact we are moving back to Oshkosh by the holdiays. I would rather have them look up to someone like Tracy than some of the other examples out there.

Now I would like to re-write an article about Tracy, but take out all the "ad" stuff, I recognize what you are referring to now. And just list her accomplishments as an World Class Athlete/and UN Humanitarian. I will remove any relations to sponsors, adjectives like the ones above, and just put the facts of her accomplishments on and off the field.

If I do that, can I re-submit it? I'll shorten it alot. Please let me know if this would be okay, and if so, where I can locate the original page to revise it all.

Thank you for your patience and guidance here. Librarybookers My talk (Librarybookers (talk) 21:37, 24 October 2008 (UTC)).

Your suggestion

I'd suggest creating a draft article without all the fluffy sentiment and meaningless praise terms, but with solid citations to reliable sources; sandboxes are easy to create, and I'd be glad to go over the draft and offer some sincere (if frank) criticism. Is she a member of the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame? That's the kind of solid data we need. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:34, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your advice. I can see how busy you are with all these messages. I would be so appreciative if you would go over the draft and offer your sincere criticism. I want to create a draft exactly how you describe. I always meant for it to be serious. I didn't mean it to be fluffy, but I did take quotes and paragraphs from sources, which, now that you point it out are a bit fluffy. But I want it to be serious like I intended it to be. Yes she is in the Hall of Fame. And she is on the ballot to be in a much bigger one too. Take a look at those Sport Humanitarian Award Winners. Thats pretty good company. As is the board members of her Olympic Training Center: Sergey Bubka, Prince Albert II of Monaco, Frankie Fredericks, Pernilla Wiberg, Reggie Williams, thats a serious project. I remember watching her in those days back in 1986 & 1987 when she was at Pius in Milwaukee, in her 1st year ever running, she came out of no where at the Metro Conference and State Championships and shattered every hurdle record there was. So I really want it to be serious.

I look forward to your advice. I can't thank you enough for helping me here. I feel like such a schmuck for messing it up. I spent a lot of time and research. But I trust you even more since you are Wisconsinite. You tell it like it is. Well, if we were in Wisconsin I'd buy you a beer, but in virtual land, a simple Thank you will have to do. Seriously though, Thank you.

PS How are you surviving the Packer Season without Favre. Strange isn't it. (Librarybookers (talk) 01:03, 25 October 2008 (UTC))

Sorry about that. Didn't realize it should go at the bottom. Quick question, is the old article accessible somewhere where I can edit it and remove or add things without starting from scratch. Advice

Mike, Here is a new draft. Just facts, no fluff. I didn't elaborate on anything. Tried to seriously show the athelete/UN Humanitarian side. Please review and let me know what you would remove or add, or what could be improved upon. I appreciate your help and guidance with this.

Tracy born December 13, 1969 is an American Track & Field Athlete and United Nations Special Representative. Biography Tracy Mattes was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to James and Connie Mattes. Tracy began running Track in high school, and attended and competed at Pius XI High School, graduating in 1987. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for three years before transferring to compete for Arizona State University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism in 1992. After college Tracy pursued a world class Track career while working for NBC Television stations WXIA TV 11 Alive for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia; KXAN News 36 in Austin, TX and WFLA News Channel 8 in Tampa, Florida. Deciding to try her hand at a new sport, in 2003 Tracy was invited to the Principality of Monaco to train for the Modern Pentathlon. It was in Monaco where Tracy made a career transition from sport to business. During the 2004 Investors Week in Monte Caro, Tracy presented an award winning business plan to establish an International Olympic Training Center in Monaco, which led to the formation of the company in Monaco to create the center for international athletes. Tracy has promoted Humanitarian causes around the world and in 2005 was appointed Special Representative to the United Nations World Tourism Organization ST-EP Foundation. Tracy attended the International University of Monaco receiving her MBA degree, earning the honor of Valedictorian of her 2006 graduating class, which was presented to her by Monaco’s Sovereign Prince Albert II. Tracy currently resides in Monaco.

Athletic Career Tracy’s track career started when she was a junior at Pius XI High School in Milwaukee, WI. In just her first year competing in the hurdles, as an unknown athlete, Tracy won six straight Wisconsin State Championship Titles, six straight Metro Conference Championship Titles and set State, Conference and competition records around the State.

High school

  • 1987 Gatorade Player of the Year
  • 1987 National Track Athlete of the Year for the State of Wisconsin
  • Won 6 straight Wisconsin High School State Championship Titles leading Pius IX to win two back to back State Championships in 1986 & 1987
  • Set Wisconsin State Championship & Conference Hurdle records 1986 & 1987 which still stand today

Collegiate: Accepting a scholarship to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Tracy was part of the 1990 Big Ten Championship Team. While a Badger, Tracy achieved three NCAA All-American honors, All-Big Ten Honors, Academic All-Big Ten Honors and set University Records in the 100 & 400 meter hurdles, which still stand today. In 1991 Tracy transferred to Arizona State University where she competed her final year of collegiate eligibility. As a Sun Devil, Tracy won two more NCAA All-American honors, Pac 10 Honors, Academic All-Pac 10 Honors and was named NCAA Scholar Athlete of the year, an award in which she shared with former ASU Alumni & pro golfer Phil Michelson. In 1992 Tracy was ranked among the top 10 best hurdlers in the nation and set an Arizona State University record in the 400 hurdles, making her the first NCAA athlete to hold records at two major Division I Universities.

Professional: After graduating from Arizona State University Tracy pursued a professional Track & Field career and earned top ten world and US rankings in the 400 meter hurdles, winning Olympic Festival Medals and International Circuit titles. Tracy competed in the 1996 Olympic Games Track & Field Trials in Atlanta and prior to the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Tracy was involved in a car accident which resulted in a serious spinal fracture, putting her out of competition for the next few years. Prior to retiring, Tracy won three Olympic Festival medals, her final one on the 4X400 meter relay team with Jackie Joyner Kersee. Being recognized as one of best athletes to come out of the state of Wisconsin, in 2002 Tracy was inducted into the Wisconsin Athletics Hall of Fame, and later that year was also inducted into the Piux XI Sports Hall of Fame. After a brief stint with the Modern Pentathlon, a horse accident motivated Tracy to focus on creating something constructive and useful for other athletes. Tracy retired from sport and turned her focus to creating an Olympic Training Center for international athletes and to finding ways to use her notarity as an athletes to promote humanitarian causes.

Humanitarian Work: Tracy first became personally aware of worldwide humanitarian crises, visiting poverty stricken and rural areas while competing in Africa, where she acquired Malaria. After recovering, Tracy turned to the United States Peace Corps and the United Nations for information on the affects of the disease in severely underdeveloped areas, and her humanitarian work began. In 2005 Tracy her efforts were recognized by the United Nations and she was named Special Representative to the United Nations World Tourism Organization ST-EP Foundation. ST-EP stands for Sustainable Tourism for the Elimination of Povery and targets severely underdeveloped countries. During the past three years Tracy has concentrated her efforts traveling, working, and raising awareness and funding for ST-EP Programs especially focused in Africa which include projects in Tanzania, Ghana, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Zambia, Niger, Senegal, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Gambia. More than 40 small libraries, providing education to locals, now exist in developing countries around the word as a result of this initiative. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Tracy brought together the world’s leading organizations in the areas of Sport, Development and Peace for a Forum to discuss ways to unite common efforts and programs targeting developing countries. During the Olympics, Tracy was invited to the UN Headquarters in Beijing by Mr. William Lemke, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon’s special advisor on Sport, Development & Peace, to discuss future initiatives that could involve professional athletes and unite Sport and Development as a means for creating peace in areas of conflict. This topic fit into another cause Tracy has become committed too: advocating a resolution of the Darfur crisis. With the humanitarian situation in Sudan worsening Tracy joined a group of professional athletes called Team Darfur. Tracy traveled to China and spoke to world leaders about the need for urgent aid to the millions of refugees and displaced people who had fled fighting in western Sudan's Darfur region. Tracy is planning a six day visit to Sudan and Chad in 2009 to examine the possibility of bringing ST-EP’s library program to the region, as a way to improve the lives of kids in refugee camps. Tracy helped fund and launch the Peace & Sport Organization’s Inaugural Forum, under the patronage of Prince Albert II in Monaco in December of 2007, which is looking for ways to bring sport programs to kids in refugee camps. Tracy also works with Against Malaria, a foundation which raises funds to provide mosquito nets as a means of disease prevention in the areas in the world most affected by Malaria. Tracy’s work with sport and humanitarian causes has taken her to more than 70 countries around the world.

Deletion of Zyvex article

On October 23, 2008 you deleted the Zyvex article, saying it was "blatant advertising". I haven't edited the article in a long while and cannot comment on the state in which you saw the article, causing you to make the decision to delete. I know, however, that it hasn't always been "blatant advertising". Is there any way the article could be restored so that it could be reverted to an earlier, better state? ehn (talk) 23:21, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello there, Just wondering if you could tell me the reason why the Pocketbooks (band) page was deleted? I must admit I find Wikipedia very confusing so perhaps I didn't set it up properly? The deletion log states that it doesn't indicate importance or significance of a group/band/company/etc. Can you let me know how important and significant a band has to be before being allowed a Wikipedia page? ;-) Thanks! Take a look at this/these

Since you are involved in this sort of thing you might want to take a quick look at Special:Contributions/Tyler.dawson. I added an Afd to Jamie Dawson and as I was doing it I linked back the a band they are involved in, The Thieves, and noticed the Afd for that was gone. I tried to rollback the edits as vandalism on that, and two other articles, but I don't have rollback permission. They also just created Tales From The White Line. It appears User_talk:Tyler.dawson has been warned already about this sort of thing. I can not do much other than start doing reverts but that would put me into an edit war situation if the users past history is any indication. Deletion of Article "Addite Shirwaikar" and another one called "Mohit Malik".

Hi. You deleted these two articles because you said the first one Doesn't indicate importance or significance of a real person. Addite Shirwaikar is an Indian TV drama actress starring on Banoo Main Teri Dulhann as a girl named Chandra. If you want to see go on any search engine and type Addite Shirwaikar and you will see info on her and also on images there is a ton of images on her. I actually wanted to post up a article on her because many people who know her have wanted to find info on her and the best place for everyone to see is Wikipedia. My other Article was on Mohit Malik. Mohit Malik, is an Indian TV drama actor on Banoo Main Teri Dulhann as a guy named Bharat. In fact he was named #1 hottest indian tv actor. You had deleted him because you said Blantant Advertising. I clearly was not advertising. I just wanted to put it up for other people to see. If they want to know about him. Please, tell me why these two can't be put up. They're just about two people who are in the #1 drama on Indian TV. (Won awards) If you want more info just go on Banoo Main Teri Dulhann. Can you any way put these two back up. Thanks, Dreamyblue96 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.32.21.48 (talk) 23:42, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I just read your message and I understand now what you meant. I did not intend to advertise but if it's possible, for both the articles, can you put them back on wikipedia and i will fix those two right away. Or you can fix it. Thank you for your response though. Please, put them back up. If you still need me to do something then i could do it. Thanks Dreamyblue96

MuZemike (talk) 03:19, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Disregard last transmission. I know what's going on, now from looking at the article's talk page. I am informing the creator that s/he should rewrite the article in a more encyclopedic tone than in a spammish tone. Sorry for bothering you, MuZemike (talk) 03:23, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Please help

My list was deleted today, and that is not important, as it was just a page with a nav box on it. My intent was keeping the mundane minutai off of the main page. Was the problem with List of david Williams Productions that it did not have an introductaory paragraaph or its nav box content? That was a very early attempt of mine to conform to wiki guideleines, by "winging it".

The Untouchable DJ Drastic

Information available on this page is referenceable. I as an editor will make the appropriate motion to make this available within the next few days. I do understand your position as a Wikipedia editor although all professional entities are valid. The Untouchable DJ Drastic's professional accolades are relevant and should be available to the public for knowledge. I agree with your statements regarding the previous content that was a mess and I'm assuming accumulated over time. I too thought it was a horrible page. I feel that once this piece is referenced it is legitimate for approval.

Wikipedia is an outlet that enables users to resource information on their preferred topic. At first, the page was not written properly. You are now making motions as an editor that the page promotes the subject blatantly. In my eyes, it does not promote. It appears to explain.

It explains the career of the subject which upon reference is fact. It does promote. See definition of promote below. If you would kindly share your thoughts on the lines in which you may feel "promote" it would be greatly appreciated.

See definition below:

Promote: 1 a: to advance in station, rank, or honor : raise b: to change (a pawn) into a piece in chess by moving to the eighth rank c: to advance (a student) from one grade to the next higher grade 2 a: to contribute to the growth or prosperity of : further <promote international understanding> b: to help bring (as an enterprise) into being : launch c: to present (merchandise) for buyer acceptance through advertising, publicity, or discounting 3slang : to get possession of by doubtful means or by ingenuity

Thank You,

I agree. Wikipedia is a resource for information. Who would advertise on Wikipedia? I would personally make a motion to delete an article that had blatant advertising. This page does not express any motion in my eyes that would persuade or influence an individual to support the subject or the entities mentioned in the piece. It does state anything in the nature of “Go to (i.e.) to see the subject” or “The subject is great because of (i.e.).” It merely expresses the brands and/or entities that play a role in the subject’s career or vice versa. I am here to work with you in continuing Wikipedia’s history as an efficient information resource on the World Wide Web. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hip Hop Is Alive (talkcontribs) 19:27, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Do you have some advices,

Thank you very much for your understanding.

Just a quick note to let you know why I removed your prod tag on Lotus (rock band). Likely it will go back and I won't argue, I only removed it because I was watching it, and the guy was very active in writing at the time you added the tag, and I figured you didn't know that. They *may* be notable, and I am trying to help just a little to give him the chance to fix it (ie: not BITING him). Hope I didn't step on your toes, as my goal was solely to give the editor a fair chance to continue improving the article before he had to get a bit hammered with any kind of delete tag. Agudath Israel Etz Ahayem

HI there MIke,

Could you please further explain to me your comment

The best analogy would be with "notable alumni" sections in articles on high schools, colleges, etc. The consensus is that if the person is notable enough that they have an article about them in Wikipedia for other reasons, then they belong on such a list; if not, not. If no past members of the congregation fit the description, then nobody should be brought up unless as part of an inclusive table of such officeholders. (Such a table would not be unprecedented; but tables of past rabbis would be much more likely than ones of synagogue presidents.) --Orange Mike | Talk 15:09, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

So if I read and understand you correctly, you are saying that is someone is not notable to have their own article or be in a different article on wikipedia, they do not belong in such lists? DoctorKnockersMD (talk) 19:35, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Peter Quain left a frustrated message on my talk page concerning Media Power (which he recently reposted). Ooops! I didn't completely notice you changed the speedy to a more appropriate tag regarding notability about Bob Moha. (Half my brain got it, the other half didn't haha) Although since you put the notability tag on there, can you look at the New York Times reference I since added and what not and consider taking the notability tag off, since in his day this guy seems to have had quite a bit of notability. • You're going to make me do all the foot work? lol I don't have the money to pay for the back issues of super old newspapers as of now, but do a news search of him in newspaper archives and you get endless articles about this guy and how he messed people up. Also some mentions in books that I can't get at (based on the copyright laws of this country I reside in, google only gives me snippets, if you are an American you might have better luck since they are old books.) Really, this guy has plenty of references to him. Enough that someone is bound to say, "Wow, I want to know more about him, I wonder if Wikipedia has more information about his birth name and what not." And here we will be, ready with that information at any time in the future. Cheers, Nesnad (talk) 15:54, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Proposal for MapleSim Deletion

Orangemike, thank you for your quick review of my article! I appreciate it. I'd like to discuss the notability of it, however. MapleSim is a flagship product of Maplesoft. Maplesoft provides world-class mathematics software and is used by people across the globe. It is one of the forefront mathematical calculations software companies, with its main competitors being Wolfram Research (Mathematica) and The MathWorks (MATLAB). A quick google search should demonstrate the notability of this article. I've provided references to several scientific magazines and articles that discuss MapleSim in my article. Would you please tell me what I should do to improve the notability of this article? I feel it is well written and of the appropriate depth and breadth for now. Thanks again Orangemike. Chipp C (talk) 20:22, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Orangemike, I'd have to say I'm very pleased with our exchange of words here. I've never had to do something like this on Wikipedia before! I'd like to point you to Maple, which is another of Maplesoft's flagship products. I'd also like to point you to GridMathematica, which is a secondary product of Mathematica, a competitor's program. Gridmathetmatica's Wikipedia page has been around for some time, and I feel it is somewhat in the same class as MapleSim, in the sense that it was a product that was created due to the success of the company's first flagship product (personally, I think MapleSim is a more notable product, but of course I do!). Now, I understand that Wikipedia isn't perfect - just because something else is around, doesn't mean it is correct! You have quite a reputation here (judging from your user pages and contributions), and I surely do not want to question your understanding of Wikipedia's policies. I still stand firmly behind creating a separate article for MapleSim - is there a way we can gather more opinions on the matter? I've opened some discussion on the MapleSim talk pages, but the page may be deleted soon if there is no activity there. Is there anything I can do here to help plead my case, so to speak? Thanks again Orangemike, I really appreciate your help here.Chipp C (talk) 21:21, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

It is a shame that no other users are commenting on the talk page for MapleSim, so I don't know where to go from here. I will remove the prod and hope that some users come by the page. Orangemike, placing notability aside, do you think the article was written with a NPOV, so that it could be posted on Wikipedia? Would it be possible to perform the edit request, and we continue with this debate in the meanwhile? Thank you.

Lotus (rock band)

Ok, it has been a few days since I ripped your prod out of Lotus (rock band), and the editor has been given every chance to fix it. I went to my favorite go-to guy when it comes to music, Hammer. In the end, he thinks they fail wp:music and has nominated it for AFD. I don't regret wanting to "wait and see" a couple of days, but have to admit in the end you were right. Will be voting to delete at AFD. PHARMBOY (moo) (plop) 16:34, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi,

Can I please get some feedback on how my article about PwC UK can be reinstated?

PwC is made up of separate firms across the globe. The article you currently have on wikipedia only references PwC in the US. My article focussed exclusively on the UK firm, and was backed up by references. I was trying to make this distinction clear by calling the page pwc_uk (this now redirects to the global page).

Grateful for any advice.

Thanks

Manufacturing Execution Systems

Orangemike, I am new to this process, so please excuse any errors I may have made. I have removed any reference to advertising, attempting to make this neutral; this term is highly used in the manufacturing industry, so I would propose a page is warranted. Could you please send me suggested edits this time, if you feel it is still inappropriate? Thank you very much! Gbenzie (talk) 21:04, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Trip Planner

Orangemike, I was wondering if we could discuss the decision to speedy delete my article on Trip Planner. While the web page is a service, it is a free service, for starters, similar to Google Maps, which has a legitimate Wikipedia page, as does Yahoo maps, which opens with the line "Yahoo! Maps is a free online mapping portal provided by Yahoo!." One could construe that to sound like blatant advertising as well. But more to my point about including Trip Planner, the article was written in neutral tone, it was sourced with publicly accessible records and third party press coverage, and it was written because I believe it has historical, educational and therefore encyclopedic value. The development of Trip Planner was a significant shift to modernity for a major state agency (the MTA) charged with overlooking a 100 year-old public transportation system--the largest public transportation system in North America. The dates and sourcing provided about Trip Planner would have significant value for New York City historians, Research assistants, rail enthusiasts, educators, and tech bloggers. Please advise how I can edit and reshape the article so it satisfies its intended purpose, which is certainly not to mask advertising or drive traffic to a website. I'm unclear how an article on Trip Planner would differ from similar articles about similar services. Thanks for your time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MCnyc (talkcontribs) 13:47, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for getting back, just for clarification: Indicate its noteworthiness in terms of its historical significance? I deliberately didn't want to get into what it does and what features make it unique from other transit systems because I felt THAT would sound too ad-speak. So in other words, Trip Planner would only be valid as an article if it was "the first" such service, or "the most expansive" or if, like I said earlier, signified the MTA's shift to a more modern way to provide system information? Sorry to keep bothering you; just want to get a clear directive. MCnyc (talk)MCnyc

are you going to answer to this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.176.49.44 (talk) 19:22, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

User Page and "how to"

Slightly confused with how to handle something. Could be nothing, could be a lot of things. I came across this when looking over the List of drummers a few days ago and there was a link to a "Mike Barrie", which, when clicked on, went to the User:DrummerMike user page. The page has issues, obvious one is that per WP:UP#NOT this is not allowed, unless I am misreading something. Before I fully did anything I did some searching and found a CSD had been done on Michael Barrie and thought maybe they were just re-creating the article. I asked User talk:J.delanoy#Recreation of a CSD?, who had done the CSD, to take a look and their reply was it was not a problem as they seemed to be working on the article on their userspace. Before I replied I decided to take a look at the users history and it seems that it is primarily a SPA and shows the user page always being "about" the user. My posting the question for you is to get another opinion on the issue, not to canvas.

A short timeline of edits outside of the user page made by this editor shows:

All Mike Barrie entries on the various lists were updated/fixed to Mike Barrie|User:DrummerMike on October 29, 2008

  • Article Michael Barrie was "(Speedy deleted, blanked or requested by creator)" on October 29, 2008.

A few really weird "blanked" userspace pages:
User:DrummerMike/Sandbox/Prank diff
User:DrummerMike/Prank diff

Have no idea what this edit was: User:Tinkiewinkie diff

The user has been making some recent edits to schools, I think they are one they have attended or attends.

So not sure how to handle this. Thanks! Soundvisions1 (talk) 16:10, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of "Moped Army" article

On Oct 30 I worte Mike this letter: "You deleted the article Moped_Army the other day, not to put to fine a point on it, I think you should un-delete it.

I understand your reasoning, and motives for what you do as a "deletionist" editor. I've looked through some of the articles in your deletion log and was satisfied that you aren't a delete-happy Nazi. Most of the stuff you take out is of very minor importance.

However, the Moped Army (of which you may have guessed I am a member) is a national organization of 14 branches and 432 members, plus the 10000+ users registered in our public forums. Our rallies (about ten annually throughout the country, attended by between 50 and 300 members and non-members) have been the subject of national news articles written by the Chicago Tribune, <http://www.accessmylibrary.com/coms2/summary_0286-8545286_ITM> Kalamazoo Gazette <http://www.mopedarmy.com/resources/articles/5/> and others.

The actual stated reason for deletion (A7) was that the article doesn't state why the group is important. This seems like a flimsy reason at best, seeing as this requirement doesn't even have to be verified by outside sources. To put it shortly here: The group is important because it is the largest moped organization in the country, and probably the world, of its type, and is the forefront of rekindling a form of transportation that is quickly growing in the US after decades of languishing. It is also one of the largest two-wheel motor bikes groups of any sort. If yo ugoogle the word "moped" the group site, mopedarmy.com, is the sixth result. There are 10000 posts per week in our forums and over half a million since the website's inception in the late ninties.

i think at worst the article was guilty of being poorly written, but that doesn't warrant it's deletion in my eyes."

Mike's response was: "432 members is not notable enough for a planetary encyclopedia."

And my response: "Well, respectfuly I disagree. The article satisfies the requirements for notability listed in the wikipedia guidelines and there is no reason why it should be deleted. I don't see how the number of members is in any way relevant to the issue."

I think the issue should be reexamined. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.210.152.112 (talk) 19:14, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of Moped Army Article.

Hello Mike,

I respectfully ask that the Moped Army article be considered for undeletion. You said that "432 members is not notable enough for a planetary encyclopedia." I mean, the US House of Representatives probably just squeaked by the chopping block with 435 members, right? Your reasoning, verbatim, that the number of members of an organization is proportional to it's noteworthiness is pretty flimsy. I know what you actually mean, that small groups that you haven't heard anything about are not important enough for a worldwide Wikipedia article. Rustybret pointed out several aspects about our group that I do not feel I need to repeat but I will say that I completely agree with him.

Doppelgamer (talk) 13:39, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Just making a comment. It's not about the number of members, it's about the notability of the association, which is normally measured by its coverage on third-party sources like newspapers or TV. --Enric Naval (talk) 13:46, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of article JSMS and blocking of user account The JSMS Team

Hi,

You recently deleted an article I wrote describing an open source software product (JSMS).

  • 19:40, 23 October 2008 Orangemike (Talk | contribs) deleted "JSMS" ‎ (G11: Blatant advertising)

And you also indefinitely blocked the account that I used to create the article (User:The JSMS Team).

Let me start by saying that I understand and accept the reason you blocked my user account. I did not realise that it was illegal to use a group name as an account name. I have now set up a new account for myself.

With regard to the article itself, I'd first like to request a copy of the text from the article. And then I would like to talk with you a little about your decision to delete the article. You cited reason G11 for your decision to delete the article. However, CSD#G11 states: "simply having a company or product as its subject does not qualify an article for this criterion."

I would like to petition you to reconsider your decision to delete this page. And I am willing to make whatever changes necessary to bring the page in line with guidelines. The page was not meant in any way as advertising. It's goal was to describe a free open source software application used by thousands of people [1] for sending SMS text messages from their PC desktops. I had hoped that I had been neutral in describing the functionality provided by the application, it's purpose, history and usage. In that light, I don't see why the article differs from similar articles such as 7-zip, WinSCP or Notepad++. They all attempt to define a piece of software and what it is for. The only difference I can see is that the cited applications are better known/more famous. But IMHO, each of the articles (including the JSMS article) are valid encyclopaedia entries describing open source software applications.

I would appreciate it if you would consider this petition, and as indicated, I am willing to address any criticism or requests for changes that you see fit. Wikipedia is an excellent resource and I am happy to do my bit to make it even better.

Kind regards,

Mayomadman (talk) 01:28, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

I received an email from this user and I have undeleted and userified this article to User:The JSMS Team/JSMS. I have advised the user that as it stands now I think it's eminently deletable, so the user will have to make the necessary changes to move it from a promotional article that fails to show notability to one that could stand on its own. The user asked how to appeal so I advised them of WP:DRV. Please advise of any concerns or questions. ++Lar: t/c 22:04, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Yes, but he is at least professing to want to stop this behavior, and to become a better editor. Hi Michael,

I found that my article on Ephox had been deleted on the grounds of Blatant advertising (see log below).

  * 02:04, 30 October 2008 Orangemike (Talk | contribs) deleted "Ephox" ‎ (G11: Blatant advertising)
  * 02:03, 30 October 2008 Roux (Talk | contribs) marked Ephox patrolled ‎

I was careful to follow the format of existing articles on wikipedia describing companies such as Atlassian Software Systems and Telerik (and many more besides). Those articles have been around for some time so I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that they were a reasonable template to follow. Having read the criteria for speedy deletion I can see why my article was deleted.

Would you be able to provide some guidance on what changes are required in order for the article on Ephox to be considered as acceptable as those referenced above? Thanks.

Pollo-pescetarianism

Hi.

I just recently come to this article: [9], and I noted that you deleted this article with the reason of A3. I plan to re-create this page, but beforehand, would like to see how the page looks like before deletion, so I can decide whether to re-create - which will involve some research, or just to ignore it. I think, IMO, this article (either Pesce-pollotarianism or Pollo-pescetarianism) should exist as it is different from Pollotarian (who only consumes poultry), and Pescetarian (who only consumes seafood). They are all can be categorised as Semi-vegetarian and definitely not Flexitarian. Thanks in advance. w_tanoto (talk) 21:32, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of User talk:Bagstorageforyou

A tag has been placed on User talk:Bagstorageforyou, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:User talk:Bagstorageforyou|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. DanielRigal (talk) 20:03, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Why did you delete Lawrence Smith (cricketer)?

Hello. I wrote Smith's article, and am very surprised to see it deleted. WP:ATHLETE says that to have "competed in a fully professional league, or a competition of equivalent standing" generally meets notability standards, and WikiProject Cricket's own guidelines (at WP:CRIN) expands on this with relation to cricket specifically. Smith played four times in first-class cricket, including three matches in the County Championship, which is without doubt "a fully professional league".

When I wrote Smith's page, I provided links to two major cricket sites' biographies of him, and inline citations to several games in which he played, including (from memory) two first-class matches. I suppose there might just about be a case for taking it to AFD, though similar nominations have usually been defended, but I very strongly dispute that speedy deletion was correct in this case. This is not an instance of violation of Wikipedia:Username policy#Company/group names because the account is being used by a single person. Use of an institutional name may not be "recommended", but according to policy it is not prohibited either. In any case, no harm done. Not to say that the article certainly can't be improved upon, but it wasn't really in G11 territory. Cheers, — sephiroth bcr (converse) 08:19, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
Hey, Thanks. The article will certainly improve overtime. Many thought the game would be canceled. Now that Atari has brough the game it on track to be released. --SkyWalker (talk) 08:35, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Question about copyright violations

Hi Orangemike, when I tagged this article [12], the author admitted that he had lifted the text from other sites, and that it was 'fair use'. I've noticed that they have created other articles with copied text, but Google hits show that the contents are being used on many sites. Are these copyright violations, plagiarism, or do they indeed constitute fair use? I also have questions re: the necessity of this disambiguation page [13], which seems designed mainly to lead to the newly created article. Maybe these are all good edits, but I'm skeptical, and would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks, JNW (talk) 03:02, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Howdy! And yes, that would be me creating and editing the articles, I'm really brand spankin new to contributing and still learning the ropes. I'd like to re-write/edit the deleted article (CCO) and have read up on how to "resubmit" with the necessary corrections, but I don't know who to ask.. you, OrangeMike? I have more references and texts, and I too would like to have a confirmation of whether or not lifting texts that are all over the internet is copyright violations, plagiarism, or fair use. (This legalese internet stuff is crazy complicated to me.) Thanks in advance for your help; I would like to get this article fixed and up and running as it is a widely-used resource in my field. Thanks! Mybihonteem (talk) 23:23, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

History Of Houston Astros article to be deleted

I am asking for your help in a matter. I put the speedy deletion logo on the History of the Houston Astros article for it has no citions and was an exact copy of the Houston Astros article. Another admin declined the deletion without giving a good reason. The main Houston Astros article is being upadted and frankly do we need two articles telling the story of the Houston Astros?--Mickey 19:37, 18 November 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mickeyp2814 (talkcontribs)

Username Block

WRT this username block, based on the heading you placed on the editor's talk page when you left the block notice, I assume you were aware of the RFC on the username. In the future, if you could close such discussions when blocking such usernames, it would be helpful. Thanks. seresin ( ¡? )  23:35, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Guidance needed on a Wikipedia related study

Dear Mike,

I am a Graduate Student at the University of Minnesota and am currently undergoing a research project to evaluate new interfaces in helping editors maintain quality on wikipedia. I needed some guidelines from you on how to obtain participants without violating any Wikipedia policies. If you find the time, please get back to me or leave me a note on my user page. Thanks so much

PR

Hey there. Since you were pretty clear that PR would be unblocked as soon as he unequivocally stated there was no legal threat, and that he did so, I went ahead an unblocked him with a reminder to behave. Poke me if you feel that was overstepping you. — Coren (talk) 00:28, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Social Democrats USA

It was noticed that there as been much confusion over this webpage which was revert by you:

"01:02, 18 November 2008 Orangemike (Talk | contribs) m (6,916 bytes) (Reverted 1 edit by 76.122.29.109 identified as vandalism to last revision by Skew-t. (TW)) (undo)"

Please check the facts and ask questions before making an assuming to know. It is mistakes like this that gives Wikipedia a bad name in university circles for credit of citation ability.

The website socialdemocraticpartyofamerica.org has been formally changed to americansocialistvoter.com, but may still show up in general searches for several weeks to come due to the nature of backlogged material at the website being transferred to the official Social Democrats USA website socialdemocratsusa.org under different controls. The older website, socialidemocrats.org will expire soon and be taken down; however, it may too appear in some back searches as text when the time comes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.171.114.93 (talk) 07:45, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Image:2010FordMustangLogo.jpg

You mind telling me why you deleted a properly tagged image? I provided a source, explained that Ford claimed it as a CC-BY image, but because the logo is trademarked, that on Wikipedia it's a logo, ergo, it's non-free, and I added the right tag. So unless you zoned in on the explanation of the CC explanation from the Flickr page, then I think you made a very grievous mistake. --293.xx.xxx.xx (talk) 09:12, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

http://flickr.com/photos/fordmotorcompany/2807601226/ Look at the link, perhaps you would understand why I only chopped it in half and didn't edit it further. I think what you should've done was ask others about the conflicting licensing problems, seeing that Ford hasn't been too good with the CC licenses. --293.xx.xxx.xx (talk) 22:23, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

The Ergs!

Just a friendly note on The Ergs!. I had to decline the speedy request because there were definitely claims of importance. Weak, granted, but they're there. However, I won't be broken-hearted if you prod or take it to AfD. :) --Fabrictramp | talk to me 16:09, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Join The Impact

Join the Impact has gained total public attention recently by orchestrating hundreds of thousands of people to protest in the matter of a week. This is a notable phenomenon that comes on the wings of the Obama victory using the same technology. There are articles about the group and the protests all over the news, including the four page NY Times article I sourced. I feel the deletion of this article without discussion is an abuse of that function. I know others would have found this to be worthy of inclusion. I do not appreciate spending time on an article and having it deleted WITHOUT even any discussion. That is HIGHLY undemocratic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Leftylib (talkcontribs) 22:20, 20 November 2008

Your request for a third opinion has been edited to comply with Wikipedia:Third opinion#How to list a dispute. If your entry as originally worded contained information vital to an understanding of the dispute, please add those details to the article talk page where the dispute exists. Marie Maas

RoyalBroil suggested that I bring to your attention the Marie Maas article with a possible COI for a speedy deletion.I came across the article at the new WikiProject Wisconsin section. I hope your wife, family and yourself are doing well.Thank you-RFD (talk) 11:40, 23 November 2008 (UTC) A clarification:an indenpendent review of the article will be just fine.I was a little hasty in suggesting a speedy deletion.I am a little concern the editor wrote the bio about herself.Thanks-RFD (talk) 15:01, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

This article needs help - can you look at it? Thanks!Trout Ice Cream (talk) 17:37, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi. You just blocked this user. His talk page said "I am a pedophile" and gave a phone number. I blanked it, but perhaps you should delete it. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 17:41, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

I went ahead and deleted it. Odds are it was somebody else's phone number as a target for harassment. Acroterion (talk) 17:44, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Texas station gambling hall deletion

Did you read my response before deleting this. It was moved from another article that was never contested. More than one opinion needs to be taken into account before delteing an article--BoldSolitude (talk) 18:24, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

The Coming Home Network

Hey Mike,

I am wondering why you deleted the article so quickly without considering the notes to my hangon? I would appreciate any advice, as The Coming Home Network is a valuable ministry to tens of thousands of people. The information we collect is used by most people when research is done on the topic of conversion. The Network is visited by over a million online people a month.

The page to Marcus Grodi details the life of arguably Americas best known convert. Who is known around the world through his show on EWTN, radio, speaking and books. He is an inspiration to thousands of people looking to make the same bold step he made, let alone his witness has caused Lord knows how many people to look deeper into their faith.

Please advise me. Thanks in advance.--R Rodgers 23:05, 25 November 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by CHNI (talkcontribs)

Unigo

Hi Orangemike,

I was hoping that you could unprotect Unigo so that I could start the article. It was previously deleted because the article did not indicate its significance and then you protected it from being recreated, rightfully so at the time (over two months ago). I was hoping you could unprotect the page because since the deletion, Unigo is now very notable and I'd like to create the page to demonstrate why. The Unigo site has been a topic of conversation in higher education and has been written about in several publications including The New York Times, Forbes Magazine, and blogs such as Mashable. During its first week of launch the Unigo site had more than 1.3 million page views. The site is backed by many notable people including ConsumerSearch founder Carl Hamann. Unigo's founder is Jordan Goldman, who was featured in The Gatekeepers, a non-fiction book on higher education written by journalist Jacques Steinberg. Goldman also wrote a bestselling college guidebook published by Penguin Books. Unigo is the first of its kind -- a free online college resource and student platform covering every four-year college in the United States and is used by high school students, college students, parents and counselors worldwide.

The site has had several inquiries as to why it is not on Wikipedia, both from users of the site and from bloggers/writers doing posts and stories about the site. I believe that I could start the article appropriately now that it is notable and have many, many sources I would be able to use to create it. Thank so much Orangemike. pradoec (talk) 20:12, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Thank you so much for replying so quickly. Here are the reliable, independent secondary sources I mentioned above which demonstrates significant coverage of Unigo -- "The Tell-All Campus Tour" The New York Times, Sept. 19, 2008. (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/21/magazine/21unigo-t.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=unigo&st=cse) -- This was a 3,500-word feature written about Unigo for the The New York Times Magazine. -- "Generation YouTube" Forbes Magazine, Oct. 7, 2008 (http://www.forbes.com/technology/2008/10/06/unigo-theunet-youtube-tech-personal-cx_hs_1007unigo.html) -- This article also talks about some of Unigo's notable backers. -- "Unigo Puts Users in Charge of College Reviews" Mashable, Sept. 19, 2008 (http://mashable.com/2008/09/19/unigo/) -- The Unigo site was reviewed by a notable tech blog. I have other independent sources that I would be able to use for the article, including The Chronicle of Higher Education. Please let me know if you need anything else. Thanks again for discussing this with me Orangemike! pradoec (talk) 11:24, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for helping me fix my references. This is the first time I've created an article and will continue to work to get it right! If you have anything specific you'd like to have me improve, I always appreciate pointers. Thanks again Orangemike. pradoec (talk) 20:01, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
