Les Moonves redirect

I stumbled upon this page, but I'm not sure it's a G10. It could be considered WP:UNDUE I suppose, but given that the section exists and the redirect was around for over a year before deletion, it seems a fairly plausible redirect and search term. ~ Amory (utc) 16:15, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

I wonder. We can't go back and re-categorize the deletion, can we? On the other hand, it doesn't seem very encyclopedic to create a redirect specifically to point to a specific section of a BLP alleged (emphasis on "alleged") legal misconduct. Allowing redirects like this is quasi-tweeting. WP:NOT. Feel free to take this to any discussion board you want. — Maile (talk) 16:36, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
Nah, it'd have to be RfD'd (or discussed at DRV); there's plenty of WP:OSE, but meh. I don't think I'd have !voted to keep at RfD, but if it were up to me I wouldn't create it, so I'm fine unless someone else balks. Just thinking out loud/picking your brain. ~ Amory (utc) 16:54, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

Suspected sockpuppet

Hi Maile, one of the pages I watchlist, Yosef Tzvi Dushinsky (third Dushinsky rebbe), has had activity lately from two different accounts that have similar usernames, User:Rabbi Barry and User:Barry1948. I don't think it's malicious, but maybe the person is opening accounts on different computers and is not aware of sockpuppetry. Would you be able to look into this? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 19:51, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

You could be right ... unless one is the son of the other. However, I don't have Special:Listusers/checkuser rights to nail it. So, your possibly quickest method of getting this attended to is to post at WP:ANI. — Maile (talk) 20:17, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
OK, thanks. Submitting looked a little complicated, though, so the ANI page suggested I get in touch with an administrator directly. I guess I'll try someone else. Thanks anyway, Yoninah (talk) 20:22, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

Forgot to revdel

Hi! Thanks for revision deleting that insult posted on my userpage. However, this revision still contains the text. Do you think you could revdel it as well? TheAwesomeHwyh 23:07, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

Questia

@Samwalton9 (WMF): Does the Wikipedia Library still partner with Questia? This particular partnership has been a little odd. In December 2017, I was advised by @SoWhy: that I either had to provide a different email to renew, or directly email Luis.Pedraza. I emailed Luis, and it was renewed with my existing email - no new email address required. On the January 8, 2019 expiration, I emailed Luis again, and somebody from Questia renewed it. My annual account has now expired, again. I emailed Luis again on Jan 15, but have not heard back. No one ever explained to me why it would have been necessary to create a new email address, different from my Wikipedia email address. What is our relationship with Questia, and what procedure for renewal am I supposed to follow this year? What is going on with Questia? — Maile (talk) 02:42, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

FLC

Hi, Maile. I noticed that you left a question on FLC talk here, which was gone by the time I logged on and saw it. For the record, I would have had no issue with both lists being nominated, as you would have effectively had one nom each. I've closed the FLCs for you, although I'm sorry to see the withdrawals and hope that both of these interesting articles can come back to FLC in the future. Cheers. Giants2008 (Talk) 23:35, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

@Giants2008: Thanks. For the record, I learned how to do tables correctly at FLC years ago. And since then, I've done a lot of tables in the style I learned at FLC. The review had some good points re genuine errors, and I am in the process of correcting those. These two particular tables were the result of extensive work between @KAVEBEAR: and myself. But however well meaning the comments were for me to change the style and/or structure of the tables, that is not negotiable with me. Also, some other suggestions didn't work for me. For the time being, I'm not ready to have these at FLC. But thanks for the encouragement. — Maile (talk) 23:56, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

Forced conversion to Islam in Pakistan

Just FYI, Forced conversion to Islam in Pakistan has been recreated. Under the circumstances of the previous CSD, I left it unreviewed for you to do it. --I dream of horses (talk) (contribs) Remember to {{ping}} me after replying off my talk page 13:01, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

@I dream of horses: the circumstances of the previous delete is that it was tagged as created by a blocked or banned user. It was tagged as such by @Samee: and showed up on the Admin Dashboard for deletion. I'm the admin who deleted it. I don't see any additional action by me is necessary. — Maile (talk) 13:21, 27 January 2020 (UTC)
Can you check that this current, non-deleted article is not identical to the deleted one? --I dream of horses (talk) (contribs) Remember to {{ping}} me after replying off my talk page 13:24, 27 January 2020 (UTC)
@I dream of horses: I'm not sure what you are asking here. But since only admins and bureaucrats can view the deleted version, perhaps you want me to make a comparison. This new version was created by an IP. It's the same subject matter, condensed down to 8 sentences, with references. AGF that creating IP user is not the blocked editor Minicoyamini, this should be OK. Is that what you are asking me? — Maile (talk) 15:01, 27 January 2020 (UTC)
Right, I was asking for a comparison, to double check everything was in the clear. I suppose I phrased it awkwardly. Sorry if I was unclear. I dream of horses (talk) (contribs) Remember to {{ping}} me after replying off my talk page 15:04, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

AFC assistance needed to move a Draft:Joseph Ballard Atherton to Main Space

@Valereee and Amakuru: or anyone else who might be willing to move Draft:Joseph Ballard Atherton to Main Space. I didn't create this, but made substantial edits in January. It is one of several essential redlinnk articles I've been helping with on the Hawaii monarchy theme. With the others, I can just create them (or not) and move on. This one was in Draft from someone else since December. I'd move it myself, if I wasn't concerned about my edits putting me in conflict of interest. — Maile (talk) 19:32, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

Snarky admin

Hi Maile, I just read your oppose on the RfA: " In my early days of regular editing, I had an encounter with a snarky admin who deleted a huge amount of of my content on a given page, without notification, and refused to give me a direct answer as to why. Just one snarky retort that essentially (in less pleasant terms) was telling me to get lost. That admin wasn't desysoped until many years later." While I can't remember this happening, I wondered if this refered to something I did in the distant past? I have been snarky, I have deleted many pages or parts of pages if I thought it necessary, and I have been desyssopped, so these parts of the description could apply to me. I don't think I normally refused to give (meaningful) answers if someone then asked me why, but still... I'm not interested in who this admin was if it wasn't me, but if I was the culprit, could you please give a link or pointer to the interaction? I try not to "bite" good faith editors, and would like to see what I did wrong. Fram (talk) 08:44, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

It wasn't you. — Maile (talk) 11:48, 4 March 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, that's a relief. Sorry to hear about your bad experience, and I'm glad you stuck around anyway. Fram (talk) 12:37, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

Maile, can I ask why you moved this from the special occasions section back to the Nominations page? It may be hard to see because it isn't flush left, but the final post in there does have an approval tick, and when you moved this back to the Nominations page, WugBot promptly moved it back to the Approvals page because the tick was the final icon on the page.

If it's just that you didn't notice the green tick, please move the nomination back to the special occasion area. If there's some other issue with it, please post what it is to the nomination template. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:10, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

My error. I didn't see the green tick. It's been taken care of now. Thanks for paying attention to these things. — Maile (talk) 10:28, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi, this user continues to vandalize the page Masbia. Is there anything you can do about it? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 20:51, 18 March 2020 (UTC)

Edward Kamakau Lilikalani

Hi-Hawaii had legislatures, when Hawaii was a monarchy, a United States territory, and then as a United States state. I felt it was important to add information that Edward Kamakua Lilikalani also served in the Hawaii Territorial Legislature. Otherwise, the reader might get confused of which legislature Edward Kamakua Lilikalani was elected to. Thank youRFD (talk) 15:17, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

I understand. And I respect the reader enough to believe that when the previous sentence says he served in the (linked) legislature of the Kingdom of Hawaii, and next sentence begins with a link "Under the Territory of Hawaii", they understand that the legislature of such was the territorial legislature. It is redundant to repeat that information in one sentence. — Maile (talk) 15:34, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

Vandalism behaviour

I am apologising for my inexperience. But kindly please check this out [2]. User does nothing but deleting stuff and playing with categories in almost all her/his edits. Thank you 103.16.128.120 (talk) 16:43, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

I understand, so don't apologize. Been there, done that myself on frustrating edit wars etc. However, if one of the editors involved has sought resolution through a Wikipedia site, it's not such clear-cut vandalism. If you're interested, WP:GAIV please see the section "When reporting at AIV is not appropriate". I think it would be OK if you took your concern to WP:ANI. You might find some resolution there. — Maile (talk) 17:11, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

DYK oddity

As you have deleted your DYK nomination of Hale Nauā Society, instead of simply withdrawing it, that may create a problem at Template:Did you know nominations/Eric Thorne. Joseph A. Kamauoha

Came across this. It might be worthwhile to clean up Joseph A. Kamauoha. An article for Maile Nowlein might also be interesting for a May Women in Red DYK. KAVEBEAR (talk) 07:02, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

At the moment, not enough info on them. The monarchy aside, there is an existing article I always wanted to see on the main page: Niihau incident. I wonder if the hero Ben Kanahele was/is related to George Kanahele. — Maile (talk) 23:04, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

Gonschor's book

This is a good source. I just realized it was also on Project Muse. Talks about the influence Kalakaua and other Hawaiian monarchs had on the other islands of the Pacific including Kalakaua's idea of a Polynesian Confederation.

Bluelink bots replacing Google Books with Archive.org

Do you know why bots keep replacing perfectly fine Google Book links with archive.org links? It is slightly annoying and wonder why the bot can't distinguish between a google book in the public domain with full preview and a google book with limited viewing ability. Know where I can push this complaint. KAVEBEAR (talk) 05:19, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

I had noticed this recently, but I have no idea why. I would suggest you ask the bot's owner User talk:Cyberpower678. — Maile (talk) 10:07, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

Hawaii biographies

I'm glad to see there has been so much progress on these. I'm very pleased you brought them up.--Ipigott (talk) 13:23, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

Citation policies

I have two questions: First, what policy states a requirement for citations to books have page numbers? WP:CITEHOW merely says pages or chapters are typically included "if appropriate." It's hard for me to imagine that pages wouldn't be generally required, especially for a GA, but I am not finding help there, either.

Second, I have used e-books without pagination, so used chapter titles as a replacement for page numbers is such cases. How would you handle such e-books and how do you recommend documenting that an e-copy was used? Thanks, Oldsanfelipe2 (talk) 20:25, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

Ha! I'm not sure I have the definitive answer. I've also found myself unsure about ebooks without page numbers, but I see them used. On occasion I have used the e-books as sources, but can't remember if I used them in anything I submitted for DYK, GA or FAC. Perhaps the guidelines should be re-written. And each review process has different guidelines on what they consider important. @BlueMoonset: you've worked both DYK and GA for a long time. Do you have a suggestion, or know how reviews handle the e-books with no page # citations? — Maile (talk) 20:34, 20 March 2020 (UTC)
What about the first question: I cannot find that there is a requirement for page numbers at all. At History of Houston, where I am overmatched in my attempt to cleanup and expand the article, one legacy passage was supported with a citation to a dissertation. It was linked to a .pdf of a 400-plus page document. In another article, there were no fewer than three citations to books lacking page references. There's no indication that the editor was using e-books, though. I have tagged such citations with the "page needed" template in the past, but now I am not finding any policy that advises as to when a page would be needed. How can I tag such articles without a policy to support it? Thanks again, Oldsanfelipe2 (talk) 20:55, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

The above are pretty much all I could find. Feel free to tag missing page numbers as you like. The worst that can happen, is that someone else comes along and removes your tag. If page numbers don't exist in a source, then they don't exist, and no editor can make them appear out of nowhere. — Maile (talk) 22:34, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi Maile66, I'm the project coordinator with Wikipedia Library for Project MUSE which means I send applications to the partner and then send finished information back to the users. Based on your comments on the application at The Wikipedia Library Card Platform, I think I do not need to submit your application to Project MUSE and I am going to set your application as "Invalid". This should not affect your account, and feel free to let me know (by message or at the talk page, Wikipedia talk:Project MUSE) if the account stops working again for longer than a day or so (which seems to be long enough to deal with common outages at their site). WP:NRHPHELP link and info clean up

Doncram Re: WP:NRHPHELP See how I cleaned up the Alabama listing. If you have no objections, over time, I'll clean up states one by one. I think we are in an age when readers want to scroll down and eyeball what's there, reading as little as possible when they scroll. On a Google or Bing search, I really didn't immediately see a lot that led me anywhere on Alabama. But, boy oh boy, when I looked at the ALA Alabama state databases, it was a wonderful surprise of informational link. Every state is different; ALA can only list what the state provides. I've previously searched through midwest/east coast states and came up dry. I certainly didn't expect Alabama to be such a bonanza, but Hooray! for Alabama. Under History, People and Culture in the ALA link, they have hardbound newspapers, image digital collections. Wonderful. — Maile (talk) 22:17, 24 May 2017 (UTC)

Likelike

Hey, Likelike remains the only Na Lani Eha to not have a GA status. I have not been motivated to do much major editing on Wikipedia lately and I think I do better when there is a joint effort in something. Would you be interested in helping out on expanding it and getting it to GA status hopefully before May ends which I think it is perfectly doable? Mahalo. KAVEBEAR (talk) 03:47, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

@KAVEBEAR: I don't know what is doable, but we can work on it. I also do better working in coordination with others when it comes to Hawaii's royalty. Not sure of my knowledge or resources available, but w can give it a shot. — Maile (talk) 13:35, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Rheumatism

How do you interpret this?: Both his younger brother, Prince Leleiohoku,32 and his niece, Princess Victoria Ka‘iulani,33 were reported to have died in their twenties of rheumatic fever, affecting the heart in the former, and the joints in the latter.34 [4] I read it as Leleiohoku-heart and Kaiulani-joint. But reading Notable of Women of Hawaii, it states that Kaiulani died of cardiac rheumatism and exopthalmic goiter. KAVEBEAR (talk) 03:16, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

I would steer away from mentioning any cause of death that cannot be clear. Unless you are a medical professional. I am not, but my understanding of "rheumatic" is that it's more of a catch-all term that can be applied to a number of ailments. I understand what a goiter is, but I don't know how it affects anybody. My personal opinion is that the royal family didn't have very good medical care, and I don't know what that would have meant in the 19th century. I am just aghast that Likelike was in failing health for months, and her doctors didn't didn't even try to treat her. — Maile (talk) 11:20, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

Happy Adminship Anniversary!

You just speedy deleted Draft:Encanto while an MfD was in progress, at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Draft:Encanto, in which multiple experienced users favored keeping or redirecting this. Under the circumstances I do not think that this was "uncontroversial housekeeping" as WP:CSD#G6 specifies. I request that you restore it and allow the MfD to proceed. @DESiegel: I have restored it for you. Thanks for telling me. — Maile (talk) 10:22, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

Why was my user page deleted?

You seem to have deleted my user page, talk page, and userbox page. If you accidently deleted them, is there a way you can un-delete them? I worked real hard on them. Thanks. WaddlesJP13 (talk)

@WaddlesJP13: Accidentally deleted in a batch delete and restored. However I don't find the userbox page you have linked above. Could you have a different spelling? And by the way, the only thing I deleted was what showed up on Category:Candidates for speedy deletion, based on how you tagged it. I can undelete anything you want, but I have to be able to see the redlink on what is erroneously deleted. Thanks. — Maile (talk) 20:24, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
I had recreated the userbox page before I refreshed and the user and talk pages were gone. I can, however, remake the userbox easily because the list of userboxes used to be part of my user page and all that I have to do is go into the page history and copy/paste onto the userbox page. WaddlesJP13 (talk) 20:38, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
@WaddlesJP13: I am in the processing of restoring every page I deleted of yours. They are being restored with your tagging on them, so you don't have to go back and do that again. At least that way, you will have all of it. If I deleted your userbox, it will be restored with that I am doing now. Thanks. — Maile (talk) 20:40, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. You've fixed the pix so it shows up and my draft infobox in my SANDBOX is ready for insertion. THANK YOU. After I copy that edit view, it successfully shows as pasted into the wikipedia article on LaGrone. However, when I try to preview it, or publish it, the infobox with pix does not show up in the Oliver LaGrone wiki. I've read, and watched Youtube videos, but I must still be making some error.

I want the infobox to be in the upper R, as the Oliver LaGrone wiki begins, so the infobox with pix fills the white space that then also extends because of the wiki's table of contents at the L. Thank you so much for helping me. I'm 78, started this article in 2017. Cordell Affeldt (talk) 14:32, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

@Cordell Affeldt: I copied it over for you. You can compare in the edit history what I did. here In a nutshell, it was a matter of formatting. The "short description" template was not a part of the infobox. All fixed now. Thanks for asking me. — Maile (talk) 14:44, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

You count as WONDERFUL. Thanks so much. It's been a long journey. Well worth it. I've grown so much. Technically, yes, but most from seen anew what a model human being Oliver LaGrone was.Cordell Affeldt (talk) 14:55, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi, you deleted this page to enable a page move, but the redirect was actually to an old version of the page that someone had moved away to make way for a different copy. The original version should be restored to this location, along with its history. Spike 'em (talk) 03:07, 13 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi, I did not cut and paste from that article.--Sakiv (talk) 04:47, 13 July 2020 (UTC)

Sakiv I've asked for technical help at WP Village Pump: Need admin assistance on a page I deleted. All I did was respond to a request at Candidates for Speedy Deletion, and the deletion log lists whatever the request said about it. Since I don't understand the technical aspects of what happened here, I've asked at Village Pump for assistance in fulfilling your request. — Maile (talk) 10:21, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
There had been a histmerge on the 2 articles, I think that solves the immediate problem. Spike 'em (talk) 10:53, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
Spike 'em thanks for the quick response.— Maile (talk) 11:07, 13 July 2020 (UTC)

FYI: blocking IPv6 addresses

Hi Maile66. I noticed that you recently blocked a single IPv6 address. However, users of IPv6 generally have access to (and automatically switch between) much more than one address (usually 18,446,744,073,709,551,616). Thus, blocking only one address rarely works, as happened just now. In general, it's safe to Just block the /64 range, as Materialscientist just did. Best, --Mdaniels5757 (talk) 00:20, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

Mdaniels5757 Thank you. However (1) I don't do range blocks, and only select admins do that. See WP:RANGE (2) You're talking over my head a little. I look at that address, and think it's an IP designated to one lone user. I'm guessing I'm not the only admin out there who doesn't know what you're showing me. .— Maile (talk) 00:35, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
I'm sorry. I spent a bit of time trying to write a response, but kept coming up short with a good non-technobabble way to, and User:TonyBallioni wrote something better than I would, so: please see User:TonyBallioni/Just block the /64#How to block most IPv6s you come across. Best, --Mdaniels5757 (talk) 03:16, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
Mdaniels5757 All right. Thanks for the information. Appreciated. — Maile (talk) 15:33, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi, I wonder if you could help me here, or if I have to go to an anonymous administrator . In most of the cases I've seen, the book gets the one-name title, and the film gets the disambiguation. For example, another one of Amos Oz's famous works: A Tale of Love and Darkness (the novel) and A Tale of Love and Darkness (film). In this case, the novel is far more notable and significant than the film. Could you switch the titles, so that the novel gets the title My Michael and the film gets the title My Michael (film)? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 22:07, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

I don't mind doing this for you, but I recommend going to an admin who knows what they're doing. And I don't know who that would be, but perhaps some of our more experienced admins at DYK. This involves page moves and page histories. This is not something I've ever done, and I don't want to mess up the histories or anything else. Sorry. — Maile (talk) 22:25, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
OK, thanks anyway. Yoninah (talk) 23:05, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

Local update times

Hi, would you mind expanding the Local Update Times section at T:DYKQ to take into account all the prep sets? It's a little hard figuring out where to place things on our twice a day schedule, taking into account daytime/nighttime in certain areas. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 11:01, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Yoninah that is Template:Did you know/Queue/LocalUpdateTimes set up by Shubinator. It appears to be linking to other templates, using some configuration in there I'm not familiar with, and probably shouldn't be touching. You might ask Wugapodes if Shubinator is not around to adjust it. — Maile (talk) 11:55, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
OK, thanks. Yoninah (talk) 12:00, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi! Why did you delete the page Apple (A. G. Cook album) per WP:G6? The page is still existing. - Premeditated (talk) 08:13, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

It looks to me like you redirected it to A. G. Cook discography. It was tagged by Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars G6 tag "Delete to make room for an uncontroversial page move". I responded to the request at CSD, and it looks like that moved the page to its present title. Perhaps this needs to be resolved on the article's talk page, and whatever the outcome of that, any future move/delete should be by an uninvolved admin (meaning ... not me). — Maile (talk) 10:45, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
@Premeditated: Someone created an actual article for the album at Apple (A. G. Cook 2020 album), so deletion of the redirect was required to move the page to the proper disambiguated title. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 14:38, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

This page is in mainspace and I think this should be deleted or moved to userspace. I didn't understand why did you remove the speedy deletion tag. Please let me know. Thanks! ~SS49~ {talk} 11:50, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

@SS49: -  Done - moved to user space. Thank you for pointing that out. — Maile (talk) 11:59, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
But redirect is still there. Please delete the redirect. ~SS49~ {talk} 12:01, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
The redirect has now been deleted by another admin. — Maile (talk) 13:28, 31 August 2020 (UTC)

CSD decline

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Zimbabwean Lives Matter was recently brought up in an off-wiki discussion as being a bit strange. Looking at it, I see you removed a G6 tag for a mistaken creation, but I think it still qualifies easily. It's clearly not an actual WikiPorject, and moreover duplicates an attempt at an article at Draft:Zimbabwean Lives Matter. A subject so niche as to not even have an article about it yet (and probably not ready to pass AfC) is certainly not going to be a viable WikiProject, especially when you already identified the Zimbabwe-wide one which this would fall under. Thanks, –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 14:55, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

I have no issue with what you are saying. But I defer on reversing my actions on a subject matter I'm not all that familiar with. You can re-nominate it at either CSD or AFD, and I'll stay out of the issue. — Maile (talk) 15:05, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
Alright, thank for the reply. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 15:12, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for your help with my first article

Hello Maile 66, thank you very much for your help with my very first article on feminist film scholar draft: Barbara Zecchi. I must say that this first experience has been so daunting that I am about to give up! The reason why I've got involved with Wikipedia is because I read all Barbara Zecchi's books and found them very inspiring. Surprisingly, when I checked Wikipedia to learn more about her, I saw that her name was in red. So I decided to create my first article about her. It took me almost a month, but I loved the experience, and on Aug 29, I even became a member of Women in Red Project. While I was waiting for my article to be approved I enjoyed editing other works. However, on Sept. 4, my first article was flagged for copyright concerns. I immediately supplied evidence of non-infringement of copyright, as instructed, on Talk:Barbara Zecchi. In order to draft this article, I used over 20 references. As I clearly indicated in my footnotes, my major source of information came in fact from the two websites that were flagged. However, both websites state that the information about Barbara Zecchi can be freely used:

https://www.umass.edu/film/member/barbara-zecchi-fs

If you scroll down, at the very end it says: "Open Access Resources: In 2011 she launched the Digital Humanities Project Gynocine: Feminism, Women Filmmakers and Film Studies that she is currently directing. Through open access resources (biographies, filmographies, interviews, sillabi, etc.), the goal of the project is to give visibility to women in cinema and provide students of cinema with useful tools for their research. This Faculty Profile is also open access and can be freely used."

https://www.umass.edu/spanport/member/barbara-zecchi

Again if you scroll down you can read "the goal of the project is to give visibility to women in cinema. This UMass faculty profile is also open access."

Furthermore, I did not simply "copy" the open access information I found on these websites. Being accused of plagiarism is so unsettling! Even before drafting my article, I checked wikipedia rules and I learned that "Limited close paraphrasing is appropriate if there are only a limited number of ways to say the same thing." This was exactly the case with my article. Barbara Zecchi is a "feminist film scholar, film critic, festival curator, and videoessayist". How can I say this with my own word? How can I be creative if I don't know her personally and all I can say about her is what I find in the references I listed as footnotes? I probably do not understand how Wikipedia works!!! I'm afraid this is way beyond what I can do... As you might understand, at this point I feel quite hopeless...

Once again THANK YOU!!!Lunaandmaya (talk) 01:34, 14 September 2020 (UTC)LunaandmayaLunaandmaya (talk) 01:34, 14 September 2020 (UTC)

@Lunaandmaya: You're welcome. We've all been there, believe me. My very first article was immediately tagged for deletion as non-notable. It still exists, but I had no idea what I was doing and had to scramble to figure out how to make it acceptable. Having survived that, my first year was a sometimes painful experience of not knowing what I was doing, and having to beg around to find someone kind enough to help me. One step at a time. I look back at articles I created 10 years ago, 5 years ago, or even a year ago ... and I realize how much my knowledge and skills grew with each year of pressing on. There was no Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red when I started, but today they are probably your best resource for finding sympathetic help. We here at Wikipedia are all on a journey of learning as we go. The learning experience never ends as long as we stick with it. — Maile (talk) 01:49, 14 September 2020 (UTC)

I had to look this up [5], and am sorry I did. Perhaps more rev/deletion of the slang. A bit of misogyny from The Citadel. Thanks, 2601:188:180:B8E0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 14:04, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. I did the revdel. Looks like another admin did a 1-year range block on that IP. — Maile (talk) 15:15, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
Thank you very much. The range block appears to be narrowly imposed, to prevent editing one noticeboard. The range I'd keep an eye on is from The Citadel, 155.225. If it persists I imagine the school might like to know which computer is being used for defamatory edits, and they can track the user accordingly. 2601:188:180:B8E0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 18:46, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
You could take that up with blocking admin @NinjaRobotPirate:. Only a handful of admins do range blocks, and I'm not one of them. — Maile (talk) 18:57, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, that's just to stop one long-term vandal from trolling WP:ANI. It doesn't affect anything else. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 21:20, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

DeMille picture Chicago (1927 film)

@Yoninah, Skyes(BYU), Marchjuly, and SNUGGUMS: Not sure which film project talk pages are active, so I'm posting this here for advice from any of you. Has absolutely nothing to do with DYK. Original editor Eclecticology has been deceased since 2016. Basic question - how should we handle an erroneous date in an article title?

I've been creating a film table to insert in the Anne Bauchens existing article. She was a film editor who did a lot of work with Cecil B. DeMille. I ran across what I believe is an error on Wikipedia, perhaps because of using sources that are not necessarily reliable. Chicago (1927 film) was a DeMille film, but the American Film Institute and the UCLA Film & Television archive, both of which are pretty reliable, list this film as having been released in 1928. The AFI souce has an explanation, "Copyright notice on the film reads "Copyright MCMXXVII," although the registration date is 6 Feb 1928."

I don't mind moving the article myself, but not sure there are enough watchers in any pertinent place to gain a consensus. Feedback? — Maile (talk) 17:27, 10 October 2020 (UTC)

Just move it. You could put a short explanation as to the copyright date in your edit summary. Yoninah (talk) 17:41, 10 October 2020 (UTC)

  • Ned McCobb's Daughter - adding this one to the list Copyrighted 18 November 1928, release date 12 January 1929

2607:FEA8:6521:4330:EDE2:AA61:F54C:502

I requested that specific IP to be banned due to vandalism and you left a message stating that it is a stale report as the user in question has not edited in 2 weeks, where they actually edited the day before. He edited twice in the prior 8 days. He edited on Sept. 3, 2020 and then on Sept. 10, 2020. And on Sept. 11, 2020, you claimed it to be a stale report. 2 weeks is 14 days, not the day before. On a different note, I might have replied incorrectly on the Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism page. Suden13 (talk) 02:44, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

When I pull up that IP's record, it shows they made 4 edits on August 27, three of which were on your talk page, and have not edited since. Special:Contributions/2607:FEA8:6521:4330:EDE2:AA61:F54C:502. — Maile (talk) 10:27, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

(tpw) Suden13: Those are different IPv6 addresses on the same /64 range. If they persist, a rangeblock may be appropriate. No edits since the 11th. –xenotalk 15:43, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

@Suden13 and Xeno: First of all, we don't WP:BAN for a few disruptive edits. You are talking about a block, and a temporary block at that. Why hasn't the user or IP address I reported been blocked? — Maile (talk) 20:42, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
@Maile66: What that user left on my page was more than just a few disruptive edits. Suden13 (talk) 21:42, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

For Whom the Bell Tolls

I'm glad you like the alt 1 hook on Template:Did you know nominations/For Whom the Bell Tolls (Playhouse 90). It definitely evokes an interesting image of Hemingway and his friend Hotchner struggling to watch the program together in a run-down motel. I do have one request, though. I would prefer to delink "rabbit ears" as the term is so unusual to anyone under the age of 55 that it is likely to draw more hits than the new article to which we are trying to attract eyes. The term "rabbit ears" is linked in the nominated article for those who seek clarification on the device that old folks like me used to have to manipulate as we watched TV. Cbl62 (talk) 01:11, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

You are absolutely correct. I removed the link. — Maile (talk) 01:21, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

The Green Pastures

I would appreciate your feedback on a hook I submitted at Template:Did you know nominations/The Green Pastures (Hallmark Hall of Fame). The hook has been criticized for its historical racial content. When I submitted the hook, I found it to be a striking reflection on racial attitudes of the 1950s. The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Gloria Swanson. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Gloria Swanson), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Speedy redirect deletion bad reason by User:Morriswa

I saw that you speedy deleted a redirect of mine on behalf of User:Morriswa. While I do agree that the redirect can be deleted, I absolutely do NOT agree with calling my creation of it as a blatant hoax, as it was made instead for technical reasons at the time that don't apply anymore. Please see User talk:Morriswa#Speedy deletion of redirect California State Route 399 (was to U.S. Route 399) --Geopgeop (talk) 10:59, 30 October 2020 (UTC)

Geopgeop Looking at the history of that, it was tagged fro deletion by User:Morriswa as WP:G3, which is "Pure vandalism and blatant hoaxes". I'm not the one who tagged it for deletion, just the admin who clicked "Delete", and it automatically created the edit summary based on the G3 tag. Golden Age of Hollywood actress filmographies

Hi Maile, I'm really happy you're developing these articles for Women in Red. Barbara Stanwyck is my favorite actress of 1940s film noir! Living in Israel, I can't access a lot of movies on YouTube, but I did come across this fan tribute video that syncs clips from her films with a Latin dance song very well: [8]. Best, Yoninah (talk) 22:18, 12 November 2020 (UTC)

Love the clip - thank you.

Yoninah What has happened, is that while cruising through a category on actresses, I randomly looked at a few of my favorites and was dismayed to see so many were just tabled lists that had no sourcing or context. And I just randomly jotted some of them down .

Right now, I'm trying to clean up the Claudette Colbert list. There's a really funny quote from her somewhere. After she finished filming "It Happened One Night", she said it was the worst movie she'd ever made. And then the movie swept the Academy Awards in all the major categories.

How did these barren lists ever last for the last decade without being deleted? I've not been very successful overall at FLC, even before this, but what a lot of useful things I've learned from that project. — Maile (talk) 22:38, 12 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi, I'm back. I just think that a short descriptive phrase should be added to the hook, like ... that Barbara Stanwyck, one of the leading actresses of 1940s film noir, ... or ... who starred in nearly 100 films ... or something else to give those who don't know her some idea of her importance. The Ball of Fire image is great! Yoninah (talk) 19:36, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

Vivien Leigh on stage and screen

I see you've re-done the Vivien Leigh performances page as Vivien Leigh on stage and screen, whilst that's all well and good, you've actually reduced the amount of information available which seems a perverse step in a major revision- the opening night dates of the theatre productions are now missing: Just listing the year is not enough. Its important i think to have these dates- particularly in relation to the overseas tours and the different productions performed. If you are not intending to add this information in a further revision, I can add it myself, as i think its valuable. In addition, I don't think the introduction really sets the scene adequately for her stage career. For example no mention is made of the fact that for many of her notable stage roles she appeared in the UK premiers of the plays in question, meaning she created a number of important characters on the British stage. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Greenslade32 (talkcontribs) 11:00, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

WP:NOT Lists on Wikipedia are not designed to contain every bit of information on a line item in the list. Vivien Leigh's list of performances was a completely unsourced collection of information, and as such was a prime candidate for deletion. It was reworked in accordance with Wikipedia's guidelines on Featured Lists. Such as Lauren Bacall on screen and stage or Audrey Hepburn on screen and stage. Readers can click on the individual links to find the details of each. Lists are not supposed to contain every bit of information available on a given item. You are welcome to discuss list styles at WP:FL. Or discuss your issues on the talk page of the list itself. — Maile (talk) 11:25, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

IP user has started edit warring again

Hi @Maile66: I thought that I should let you know that IP editor 68.199.120.122, for whom you issued a 48 hour block last week as a result of edit warring, has resumed edit warring on the same page to restore the same edits as before. --Drevolt (talk) 19:36, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

I see they tagged the article, which is not edit warring. Also, arguing their point on the talk page is not, in and of itself, edit warring. — Maile (talk) 19:58, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi @Maile66: They made two recent edits; the second was to tag the article, but the first was to reinstate the same edit they were blocked for repeatedly adding. Regardless, I've removed the sentence that the user seems to have found objectionable, so I'm hoping that this will be the end of it. --Drevolt (talk) 20:21, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Drevolt: sorry I missed that for you. I look at the history, and I still don't see anything but the tagging. Maybe I just don't know what I was supposed to be looking for. Anyway, hope your above edit resolves it for you. — Maile (talk) 20:50, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

RevDel??

Why did you remove the RevDel notice from Titoo without deleting the old revisions? The history includes copyright violations. I thought the purpose of Wikipedia:Revision deletion was to delete old revisions with copyrighted material. ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 16:32, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

It's a redirect now, with no Copyvio. I was replying to a page protection request. This history is there is the edit history. I know of no instance where a Copyvio notice is applied to a Redirect. You are welcome to take this issue to WP:AIV if you believe otherwise. — Maile (talk) 16:57, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
It wasn't meant to serve as a notice, but as a request for revision deletion. But no worries, I followed up in the proper channels and we'll see what happens. Thanks! ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 17:58, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
  • Note for self: This ended up being handled over at Oshwah talk page. 1 — Maile (talk) 21:55, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Category:Zierikzee

Hi. You deleted Category:Zierikzee without providing a reason. I presume it was done for being an empty category, but empty cats should only be deleted when they have been empty for at least seven days, to prevent what happened here; a brand-new editor, User:Lois12jd, removing the category from articles and from other categories (e.g. Category:People from Zierikzee and Category:History of Zierikzee). Please undo this (and other similar) deletions and repopulate the cats instead. Fram (talk) 08:11, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

Fram looking at the log history, it appears I deleted that because it showed up on the list Category:Candidates for speedy deletion and was tagged by Lois12jd for deletion. I'm not aware that I deleted any other specific categories, but CSD does often list numerous empty categories for deletion. However, I am glad to have this information you have provided here about deleting empty categories — Maile (talk) 11:23, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, no problem. The cat has been readded to the articles and subcats, so everything is back the way it was. Fram (talk) 12:48, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
Fram - How does one determine how long a category has been empty? — Maile (talk) 13:06, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
Usually (as far as I know), it is taken that the cat should be tagged as empty for 7 days: how long it had been empty before is unknown (usually not long). Perhaps a "related changed" search can find the answer, I haven't tried that with an empty cat yet. "7 days" means that it is not actually a "speedy", more a "prod", but it is considered uncontroversial if no one objects or reverts in 7 days, hence the "speedy" indication. User:Liz is very active with these, she will know the ins and outs better than I do. Oh, as an aside; as far as I can tell, the editor who emptied this cat did so in perfectly good faith and with the best intentions, which I didn't make clear in my initial post. No one said otherwise, but I just want to avoid the appearance that this was a complaint about the editor. Fram (talk) 13:18, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) @Maile66: It's a pain, but you can empty your watchlist and put the category or categories you want to watch in it. This will show you all of the pages that have been added to and removed from the category for the number of days and edits in your watchlist settings. I'm not sure if it works with deleted categories or not. Sounds like a good use for a legitimate sock account and its watchlist token. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 16:51, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
Well, the whole process is beginning to seem like it's big pain in the pattotie, and a lot more trouble than it's worth bothering with. Categories for deletion are listed at Category:Candidates for speedy deletion. And there are numerous listings. They're either ready, or they should not be over there. So if there is no way to tell over there, then they should not be listed. — Maile (talk) 18:26, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

Harry Field newspaper

Hey, can you clip this entire newspaper page for me and any continuation on other pages. My newspapers.com Publishers Extra subscription through Wikipedia library is expired I think. Thanks. KAVEBEAR (talk) 10:38, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Done No continuation on other pages. — Maile (talk) 13:15, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Can you link the clip? I can’t view the page to click on the clip without it popping up and asking me to do a 7 day trial. KAVEBEAR (talk) 16:51, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Here you go. Hope you're getting your membership renewed soon. Mine was expired for a couple of weeks or so before it was renewed - I felt like a vital tool was missing. — Maile (talk) 16:55, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, it would be nice to know when it expires because it does this each year. Last year as well. KAVEBEAR (talk) 02:19, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
KAVEBEAR there is a way to tell your expiration date, but it's not obvious. Click on you name while in that account. Then go to "Account details". It tells you the expiration date. However, I'm not sure if Wikipedia Library gives us the option to request renewal ahead of the expiration. The process itself seems to have changed in the last few months. — Maile (talk) 11:05, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) If you go to your My Library page, click the Individual access tab, then click My applications (pale grey in upper right corner), you'll see when each of those resources expires and a "Request renewal" button. Schazjmd (talk) 14:51, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Can you clip this: https://www.newspapers.com/image/274888104/ about the first registered women voters in Hawaii? Also I had to go about a roundabout way to access your clipping by finding one of your old clippings in one of the Kalakaua articles and clicking on your user profile because the link above still doesn’t work for me. Usually you have to click view clipping and then link the clipping not the original page. Thanks. KAVEBEAR (talk) 12:32, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Let me cut to the chase here. The link I gave you above was not to the clipping - my error, sorry. As for what you want clipped, that and others have been clipped by https://www.newspapers.com/profile/brieanah/, Given what I think you are working on, this user has probably clipped most everything. Browse through their clippings, and then let me know if there is something left unclipped. — Maile (talk) 14:33, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

The ERRORS2 page

Morning Maile, and I hope you're well and having a good festive season. I'll respond to your point at WP:ARCA here, since I think the question of reviving WP:ERRORS2 hasn't really been raised as an option this time around, and it's getting a bit off-topic for us to discuss it there. To answer your question, I haven't heard of any other cases of this nature but then again I'm not a huge follower of the drama boards, so there may well have been other similar cases. My main point though, is that IMHO the measure had broad support from those commenting at the 2018 ARCA case and ArbCom, and again IMHO, it seemed to work well for the year or so that it was active. If you look through the commentary here, you'll see that many editors, including those such as Gatoclass and Narutolovehinata5 who were very supportive of the DYK ban, felt that TRM's reports if DYK issues at ERRORS2 were legitimate. Some went further by suggesting that he could be allowed to copyedit the prep areas directly and/or nominate his own hooks to DYK, but that part was not enacted by ArbCom. There was also a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Archive 152#WP:ERRORS2 (which preceded the above ARCA case), in which you and a couple of others expressed your opposition to the page, but several other DYK people said it was a good way to operate. It may be that it felt like a "fifth column" operating within DYK, but in reality the reports were simply suggestions and it was always the responsibility of any admins reading that page whether to enact them or not. And to deal with any fall-out afterwards. TRM's reports could even have been made off-wiki, on Reddit or Twitter, but it's still the on-Wiki actions of the admin that count, not TRM's reports. It's hard to see how there's anything procedurally wrong with that. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 11:58, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

Amakuru Thank you, but you didn't have to explain to me. I understood at the time the "why" and "how" of it. It just never should have been necessary IMO. It's over, end of story on that one. — Maile (talk) 13:19, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
Fair enough, we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 13:39, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

Clara Bow filmography

Hi again. I went through ebay and I found tons of images called "restrikes". They are retouched/reprinted versions of the originals, and I can't use them because they don't have the original copyright on them. I did find this studio portrait, which is very nice:

1930s studio portrait

Maybe we could move this into the infobox in Clara Bow and take that image for your article? Yoninah (talk) 00:06, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

Done, added to the article. Yes, use it in the hook. — Maile (talk) 00:15, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
