Times of India

Hello Kintetsubuffalo! I wish to seek your help, I have a certain reference from the Times of India newspaper of which I can't find an e-paper version, if i scan the newspaper and put it as an image on the references section, can it be validated as a proof? Thank yo so much! Jasonprost (talk) 19:00, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Yes, that would work. How did you find me of all people?--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 01:03, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for your help, I found you by going to the Wikipedia page of wikipedia, and looked for people who had the most contributions, for the most conditioned ones, turned out, yours had a complete directory of talk pages! I thought who's a better judge than you, plus i support free Tibet too! Jasonprost (talk) 08:17, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

Collegiality

I'm not sure your edits on Talk:Koshare Indian Dancers were optimal - was there any need to be so aggressive to the other editor? Could you make sure your comments relate strictly to the content and not to the contributor in future? Regards — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 14:13, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

@MSGJ:I appreciate your evenhandedness in both your response and your request here, and I'm glad you actually looked at my edits and explanations. I felt there was a need for hostility from my first overview of the other editor's recent edits, I don't normally(*disclaimer*) go in with guns blazing. There is actually a third article in the set which he tried to have speedied and which an admin wisely downgraded to prod. He ignores Wiki protocol at his whim, he tries to find quick-and-dirty workarounds in lieu of consensus (i.e. merging the articles after it had been opposed), and he is turning three other articles into soapboxes. I was admonished to cool down, I did, he's still calling for my head. He is a single-issue editor who is so attached to that issue that he fails to see his own bias. A look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/FriendlyFred shows no edit outside that narrow scope in at least the last 2500 edits, since August 26, 2015. That's all he's into, here on Wikipedia. Everyone is entitled to edit whatever they edit, but he shouldn't pretend there is not POV at work on his part. It's one thing to briefly quote a book, as the article stands now, it's entirely another to summarize the book, spoon-feed the reader, in an article that is not about that book. This article is balanced just as it is right now, and I'd like the POV tag removed. I'd like to say that I will adhere to content in future; I will do my best, as I have been doing(*disclaimer*). Anyway thanks for your cool head, g'night.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 14:50, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/Noticeboard

Hello Kintetsubuffalo. You started a discussion at Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view/Noticeboard#Climate_change_denial. As usual, this has descended into a points-scoring game which is a complete waste of time. Do you want to pursue it any further or shall I ask for the discussion to be closed? @Biscuittin: Yeah, I figured it would quickly devolve into a polemic shouting match. May as well close it and leave them to their diatribe.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 04:37, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi Kintetsubuffalo. Your initial revert here was to a version of the non-free use rationale that incorrectly listed Federación de Escultismo en España as the |article= where the file was being used and was what Salavat had fixed with their edit here. I just reverted back to the last correct version of the nfur. Sorry, if that wasn't clear in the edit sum. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:00, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

Improving page to do with Marxist ERP Army in Argentina

I notice some pro-Communist Argentina editor from Spanish Wikipedia has rewritten/whitewashed the Marxist guerrilla warefare in Tucuman Province (Operativo Independencia) blaming a good percentage of the Argentine army fatalities on accidents and Red Flag incidents as is the narrative of the leftist Argentines, so I hope you can keep an eye on this page in order to add balance to history and educate neutral people. Thank you for all your work over the years. --Middleagewerewolf (talk) 23:18, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

File:1st World Scout Jamboree poster.png

Hi Kintetsubuffalo. Do you have more specific information about the source of File:1st World Scout Jamboree poster.png? You were listed as the file's source, and I think it is a good candidate for conversion to Template:PD-US-1923-abroad because its age. Anything information you can provide about the original copyright holder at Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2016 February 10#File:1st World Scout Jamboree poster.png will be helpful. If the licensing is changed to public domain, the file would no longer be subject to WP:NFCC and could be used pretty much as desired without any restrictions (other than WP:IUP). Thanks in advance. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:08, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

WP:SCOUT camp articles

Hey there. So I may have been a bit too bold, but I went through and tagged seven different Scout camp articles for mergers that I felt were not notable. I tagged Camp Kern, Camp Bud Schiele, Goshen Scout Reservation, Howard H. Cherry Scout Reservation, Musser Scout Reservation, Pioneer Scout Reservation, and Resica Falls Scout Reservation. While most have been silent, it looks like I may have hit the home camps of a few of our WP:SCOUT editors. Goshen's tag at least has gotten one editor to start working on expanding the article, however on the Talk page it's getting a little heated it seems. For Musser and Resica Falls, my tags were simply reverted based discussion from 2006. Currently our MoS is relatively silent on camp articles. Since you are an active participant of the project and haven't commented yet, I wanted to reach out to you to see your opinion. It looks like you were also involved in the discussion in 06 and that at one time there was a Project policy. Do you think it's time we try to again establish some consensus and written policy on the Project level about when to establish separate articles for camps? Deflagro Contribs/Talk 19:15, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

@User:Deflagro^I support all merges-the two that were reverted, you'd have a fight on your hands.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 01:41, 4 May 2016 (UTC)
Hah, yeah looking around at old proposed merges, it definitely looks like it'd be contested. Looking around at other non-Scouting summer camp articles, it definitely seems like some of ours are in better shape than most. I'd possibly be in favor of a MoS update that camps could be separate as long as they pass a C Class assessment or something of the like. What would you think about that? Deflagro Contribs/Talk 01:56, 4 May 2016 (UTC)
We're all friends here. --evrik (talk) 20:55, 4 May 2016 (UTC)

@Evrik-I realize that and am grateful for it, just saying as quick as those merge proposal tags were removed, I've seen how that has played out before. I would hope 10 years on things could be reviewed on their face. No acrimony here, we are indeed friends.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 01:35, 5 May 2016 (UTC)

Mormonism and polygamy template image

Hi, I noticed that you helped get the Mormonism and Polygamy template image all cleaned up. It looked great, but unfortunately the image wasn't of a polygamous family after all. You can see the gory details on the image's talk page--basically one of the people who photographed the scene sold it as a polygamous family, which is where the misunderstanding originated. I ended up replacing the image with a different one--not a family unfortunately, but a man and his two wives. If you're dissatisfied with the image, talk to me and I'll see what I can do--we have a few other images of polygamous families at BYU, but the one I chose was conveniently already in the public domain. Tibeto-Burman languages

Hi, Kintetsubuffalo. You added a citation needed template here, but it wasn't clear which part of the statement you were challenging. Kanguole 17:54, 7 August 2016 (UTC)

Ethnic groups in Europe

Heya, you had added some citation needed tags to the aforementioned page, which I ended up removing. I went through the citations provided ([1] [2]), and they indeed seemed valid for the information in the article.

Namely the points you'd tagged were "[...]these prehistoric Europeans were predominantly dark skinned, short of stature, lactose intolerant, and looked dramatically different in comparison to modern Europeans.[citation needed]" and "The genetic lineage of Europe mysteriously[citation needed] transformed[...]", both of which were mentioned in the sources provided.

I'm letting you know because I think that this part of the article could be written in a different tone (it feels kind of agenda-ish), and also because the two sources provided aren't very good (bloody Daily Mail and some pop science website). However, since you're the editor who actually took issue with it enough to add the tags, I think if you still have an issue with it you should be the one to properly fix it.

Thanks,

File:Eric Khoo Heng-Pheng.jpg

Hi at File:Eric Khoo Heng-Pheng.jpg you have added a fair use rationale, which looks good. But it also mentions free licenses GFDL and CC-BY-SA. If the free licenses actually apply, then we do need proof, but with fair use we don't need a free license. From the text you included it is unclear what permission was given. The supplier may have intended Wikipedia only. But if the subject supplied the photo, then he probably did not take it. So I think it is best to stick to fair use. Hello from Kirby!

I recently got the notification about my map of the Sassanian Empire. I've recently been making a 2.0 version of this map:

However, since it has been VERY difficult to get the accuracy of the names right and I have to re-adjust the borders again combined with the fact that I am very bust with school lately, I have given the map workshop permission to make any changes to my map. However, the map in the infobox is the old version of my map that was re-uploaded because this one was less accurate than the last one.

Given that I've been overwhelmingly busy with school as of recent, I suggest you send another request to the map workshop. I will back you up as I have told Joe Roe, the graphist who responded to your request that they have my permission. Regards. Kirby (talk) 01:21, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi Kintetsubuffalo,

I'm still around, but busy with my own children and the ScoutWiki's. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:00, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

My reversion

It might be the case that the material you added to John Frederick Colquhoun was a useful addition to the article. I didn't check to see if it was. My main reason for undoing your edit is that when copying material within Wikipedia it must be done in a particular way to properly credit all contributors.

Please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia for the proper way to copy material within Wikipedia.

Yes, please see the link, it specifically identifies the required edit summary:
At minimum, this means providing an edit summary at the destination page – that is, the page into which the material is copied – stating that content was copied, together with a link to the source (copied-from) page, e.g., copied content from page name; see that page's history for attribution. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sphilbrick (talkcontribs) 14:29, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

@Naraht: Not all of them, sure, but existing article links with slightly different names than the WOSM list (initials, different transliterations of Arabic...) had their links broken. The user was trying to force all names to conform with the WOSM list. In using Wilson's book, he uses initialisms, which drive me crazy but which were the standard 60 years ago. Imagine trying to guess A.W. Hurll and Fred Hurll are the same guy and not family... there were at least 20 articles like that where I found the article in completely another space. Many (not all) I wrote the last time I was between jobs 8 years ago. Three others had written had been deleted by prod, I had to have them restored.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 02:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
Ah, a different set of issues. A couple of comments.
  1. There may be a few at https://fr.scoutwiki.org/Cat%C3%A9gorie:Personnalit%C3%A9_d%C3%A9cor%C3%A9e_du_loup_de_bronze that aren't in Category:Recipients of the Bronze Wolf Award, we can't use the scoutwiki as a source, but for some of the redlinks, it might prove useful.
  2. In Category:Recipients of the Bronze Wolf Award , there are *quite* a few people, particularly the arabs who need default sorts to their last names. I'll try to take a look at that later this morning. (I'm in Washington DC Metro).Naraht (talk) 12:43, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
Wow, those French did a great job in filling out those names-much better for a search than initials! I was hoping for something like this! As to the default-sorts, I don't know how to parse most of those names, so I let bots handle it. But if you want to, great. I leave them out when I don't know if I'm right.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 13:11, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Kintetsubuffalo, I noticed the proposed merge tags at Hong Kong Scout Progressive Badge Scheme and Hong Kong Scout Proficiency Badge Scheme (Interest). On review of the articles' content, they appear to contain too much tiny technical detail, most of which is likely to be a copyvio from the sources. There is also no significant claim of notability. I am considering that there should be a PROD or AFD discussion. Thoughts? - Ryk72 'c.s.n.s.' 04:34, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

In merging, I also plan to significantly weed them. Hadn't gotten to the talkpage yet, putting out a couple brushfires first.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 04:37, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Some baklava for you!

It's obvious to me that you care a lot about what you do, so have this. While I'm here, I'd like to apologize for rustling any feathers. Want some baklava? Vami_IV✠ 05:11, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
@Vami IV:That's very big of you, thank you. _Now_ you're graduating to Wikigryphon or whatever on your hierarchy. And yes, I miss baklava, none in Japan.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 05:15, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the infobox

Thanks, Kintetsubuffalo! I don't actually use the infoboxes though, so I hope you won't be offended if I decline your offer.

Nice to know it's there if I decide to reaaaally go hard in on editing the ZHP pgK stuff though (I remain very active in Harcerstwo, based in the UK, and if my active volunteering/doing the Actual Work With The Kids dies down, maybe I'll channel that energy into wikiediting.) Osca

Hi Kintetsubuffalo. Regarding your recent edit to Osca: Do you know if the Orthodox Christian Scout Association is actually referred to as "OSCA"? Noting that its initials are O-C-S-A, not O-S-C-A. (I'm considering the possibility that even though its initials are O-C-S-A, people might informally refer to it as "OSCA" because "OCSA" is more awkward to say). Thanks. My mistake, thanks!--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 08:35, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

Hello Kintetsubuffalo I have vectorised those files you requested.

TsangeTalk 16:02, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

@Tsange: Thank you so much! I meant, though, that Mongolia should use the same colors as the original (except the same lighter blue as the flag), only the design has been modified.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 09:13, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
Something like this? File:Girl Scout Association of Mongolias.svg TsangeTalk 15:22, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

South for the winter

Thanks for taking a look at the article. It's a copyvio so will end up being deleted soon. Is it your first time to visit Australia? AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 03:11, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

AthomeinkobeYeah, my uncle is dying so I need to get down there to see him. Mixed feelings. By the way, based on those recent Lankan edits, I believe the editor is actually the owner of the site (I know the site owner), so it's copyvio from himself, don't know how to handle that...--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 03:14, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you have a safe trip. There are hoops the site owner can jump through to release the text, but I've never done it myself. But in this case there's no point because it is not English. So it would be better if he could translate it (based on sources of course). AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 03:18, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi Kintetsubuffalo. Could you tell me how you obtained this image? I wanted to transfer it to Commons, but it's missing verifiable source information. Thanks, FASTILY 05:05, 26 December 2016 (UTC)

Sorry I was away for a week, @Fastily:. The owner who gave me the photo is the little boy in the photo. Let me dig through my files.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 09:15, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

I saw your complaint at ANI and thought you might be interested in this SPI. JimRenge (talk) 11:00, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Hello Kintetsubuffalo, As per this ticket from isgf.org the current logo at International Scout and Guide Fellowship is outdated and the new logo has a white background and thick border (see here). Cheers – GSS (talk|c|em) 12:10, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Opps I just found it. Thank you – GSS (talk|c|em) 12:11, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Association des Guides du Rwanda

I have done the logo, using the colours of the flag. So it is darker than http://media.wix.com/ugd/22fb20_9a11dfa5be4840d3b51b371490e2147c.pdf and more like http://www.rwandagirlguides.org/gallery?lightbox=dataItem-iqmga50f1 . The rationale for deletion on this nom is blank; don't know if your original text was cut off or if it was simple oversight but since you've done AfD many times before just wanted to let you know. Nate (chatter) 12:51, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

@Timothyjosephwood: Thanks for letting me know, especially as it was posted by another user and I would not have seen it. Also, I like your free verse on the previous ANI discussion above it. Any chance we can call a truce?--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 14:29, 15 January 2017 (UTC)
I said as much somewhere on one of the various AfDs, but there is no truce because there never was a war. I've both agreed and disagreed with you in various forums, and each was based individually on the strength of your argument and reliability of your sources, not on any past interactions we may have had. I neither hold grudges nor play favorites, at least to the best of my ability, and I will continue to agree with you when you make strong arguments, and disagree with you when you do not, as I do with every editor including admins. I expect you to do the same for me, because that's how we build a better encyclopedia. TimothyJosephWood 14:43, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

Second voyage of James Cook

Hi, re this edit, what sort of infobox were you interested in adding? Not sure there's one that applies to voyages, but suggestions welcome. -- Euryalus (talk) 04:42, 17 January 2017 (UTC)

@Euryalus:That was kind of the direction I was thinking. There's an IP Wikignome (currently IP 82....) that routinely adds infoboxes, pretty sure he's find an appropriate one. PS-thanks for being cool during all this ANI nonsense.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 05:38, 17 January 2017 (UTC)

Tone tag

Hi, you tagged Renewable Heat Incentive scandal as having a problem with tone. Could you elaborate please? I have examined the article and changed quite a few sections. I've also improved the wording, so if you do get a chance, then please review the article and remove the tag or elaborate on your reasons for keeping it. st170e 23:42, 17 January 2017 (UTC)

scouting in Eastern Europe and Central Asia

Thank you for quality articles on scouting in countries where it was restricted, such as Savez izviđača Bosne i Hercegovine and American Scouting overseas, for teaching by example, for talk page requests, for "Wikipedia is kind of a microcosm of civilization itself", - Japanophile master of many languages, repeating (27 August 2009): you are an awesome Wikipedian!

Ensign Intermediate School

Hey hi howdy! Thanks for bringing the above to AfD. However, in the future, if you encounter another US middle or elementary school article that makes no exceptional claim to notability, feel free to simply go ahead and boldly redirect it to the school district's article. When you do that, please apply the {{r from school}} template after the redirect markup. It will automatically update the project templates on the talk page and the categorization. If anyone objects to the redirect (usually shown by reverting your edit), then go to AfD. I've personally done this over 100 times and only been reverted twice. Thanks. Heads up

Another rabid deletionist at commons (I have no respect for the denizens of commons; I've gotten nothing but bad attitude and ridiculously illogical and ignorant arguments from them, with only one possible exception) has decided to take a whack at the scouting logo I put together for you a while back. You might want to weigh in here. I can't find anything to suggest that the claim that this badge is outdated is either true or false, but I figure you could. MjolnirPants Tell me all about it. 02:31, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

@MjolnirPants: I personally hate Commons for the exact same reasons. Thank you for the heads-up! Could you reupload a copy here? The AfD rationale is wrong, but they are strange at Commons and may go along with it. Thanks!--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 12:58, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

Rose Kerr help

I'm having a problem with the Rose Kerr page where someone is adding a line about a totally different Rose Kerr in the opening paragraph, "She is not to be confused with Dr Rose Kerr, the English art historian specializing in Chinese art". I've reverted once and am trying to discuss this with the editor before reverting again. It is also possible I'm overreacting so I could do with a second opinion. Many thanks --Erp (talk) 06:03, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

@Erp: Ugh. That guy. I fixed it and will be watching.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 08:38, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
I noticed he was very active hence me asking for advice but I don't think I had seriously encountered him before. Thanks for confirming my interpretation. --Erp (talk) 16:06, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Re:if you'd like...

If the userbox was "involved in working with Scouting in the Philippines in wikipedia" or something similar, I'd use it, but given that my work with the Philippines has been with Alpha Phi Omega (Philippines) and only on the wikipedia side, I'm not comfortable using a userbox that implies RL work (as opposed to Wikipedia). Thanx for pointing it out though.Naraht (talk)

@Naraht: Feel free to change the wording as you like-I just created it today.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 14:54, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
Don't feel comfortable doing so. The userboxes in question are more generally either RL or Wikiproject entries. Now that I look at what is at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Scouting/Userboxes]], a userbox altered enough to make me feel comfortable doesn't seem to fit, since given Scouts Canada and some of the other countries, that would give a category of Wikipedia in Scouts Philippines, which I am not. I added it to the userboxes in the page of Scouting userboxes. I certainly will add Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting/Userboxes/ScoutGuide.Naraht (talk) 15:14, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
