Project News

Welcome to the one hundredth and forty eighth WikiProject Yorkshire monthly newsletter.

Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters, WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 15,795 last month to 15,980 on 30 July 2020). In the area of GAs WP:YORKS at 180 is ahead of WP:GM who have 87. WP:GM has the lead in FAs at 68 out of a total number of 4,525 articles.

After discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Yorkshire in April 2008.

Specific aims for the project are:-

To complete tagging and assessment of all Yorkshire related articles (See below)
To recruit more active editors (See Member News)
To bring our top level article Yorkshire up to Featured article status
To bring all other top priority articles (currently 15 with 2 at FA) to at least Good article status
To set up a weekly or monthly selected article improvement drive (See this month's feature below)
To produce a regular news letter for circulation to members

and apropos of the above a 2010 New Year article improvement drive/collaboration is being organised.

Welcome to the one hundredth and forty ninth WikiProject Yorkshire monthly newsletter.

Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters, WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 15,980 last month to 16,104 on 26 August 2020). In the area of GAs WP:YORKS at 181 is ahead of WP:GM who have 88. WP:GM has the lead in FAs at 68 out of a total number of 4,531 articles.

Just a note about sources which have been decided are unreliable and should no longer be used on Wikipedia. The latest one is the Daily Mail and this is been removed at the moment. If this is used on any of the projects articles then please remove it and replace with a more reliable source. If another source cannot be found then the reference and the text it supports should be removed from the article or if you think that the information is important the text should be tagged as {{citation needed}}.

The Months of African Cinema Contest Continues in November!

Greetings,

Thank you very much for participating in the Months of African Cinema global contest/edit-a-thon, and thank you for your contributions so far.

It is already the middle of the contest and a lot have been achieved already! We have been able to get over 1,500 articles created in over fifteen (15) languages! This would not have been possible without your support and we want to thank you. If you have not yet listed your name as a participant in the contest page please do so.

Please make sure to list the articles you have created or improved in the article achievements' section of the contest page, so that they can be easily tracked. To be able to claim prizes, please also ensure to list your articles on the users by articles page. We would be awarding prizes to different categories of winners:

Project News

Welcome to the one hundred and fifty second WikiProject Yorkshire monthly newsletter.

Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters, WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 16,259 last month to 16,386 on 29 November 2020). In the area of GAs WP:YORKS at 188 is ahead of WP:GM who have 88. WP:YORKS also has the lead in FAs at 76 while WP:GM has 69 out of a total number of 4,595 articles.

Currently we have sixty Yorkshire featured articles:

Aims

After discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Yorkshire in April 2008.

Specific aims for the project are:-

To complete tagging and assessment of all Yorkshire related articles (See below)
To recruit more active editors (See Member News)
To bring our top level article Yorkshire up to Featured article status
To bring all other top priority articles (currently 15 with 2 at FA) to at least Good article status
To set up a weekly or monthly selected article improvement drive (See this month's feature below)
To produce a regular news letter for circulation to members

and apropos of the above a 2010 New Year article improvement drive/collaboration is being organised.

Priority Articles

The top priority articles that have been identified to date are as follows -

Bradford • East Riding of Yorkshire • Henry Moore • Kingston upon Hull • Leeds • Northern England • North Yorkshire • Ripon • Sheffield • South Yorkshire • Wakefield • West Yorkshire • William Wilberforce • York • Yorkshire • Yorkshire and the Humber

The number has been kept deliberately low to give us a fighting chance of improving them to at least GA status, also so we can concentrate our efforts on these first.

Happy Christmas

It is time to wish all members of the project a Happy Christmas. Though it will be a very different one this year because of the restrictions placed on us by the government because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Though there will be some relaxation of the rules for a 5-day period over the Christmas period it will not allow much of the usual festivities to take place. Hopefully the vaccination will be available early next year for the country to get back to some sort of normality.

It is time to wish all members of the project a Happy New Year. Hopefully with the availability of a couple of vaccines things should start to get back to normality soon. The last year has seen 35 of the project's articles promoted to GA, while 9 have been promoted to FA and a list has been promoted to FL. Many thanks to all those members who have been put in the hard work to get these articles to a higher status.

Monitoring is essential
Use the watchlist to keep an eye on changes to the project's articles so that vandalism and spamming can be removed as quickly as possible.

Moves
Please be careful when performing articles moves and ensure that you also move all the talk sub-pages and update any image fair use rational. Otherwise the archives, to-do lists, assessment comments and GA reviews get lost and the image may be deleted as it has an incorrect FUR. You will also have to check that the Commons link is set correctly.
