RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I

Hey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is now no longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improving RfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:

  • Proposal 2, initiated by HouseBlaster, provides for the addition of a text box at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship reminding all editors of our policies and enforcement mechanisms around decorum.
  • Proposals 3 and 3b, initiated by Barkeep49 and Usedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
  • Proposal 5, initiated by SilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
  • Proposals 6c and 6d, initiated by BilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
  • Proposal 7, initiated by Lee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
  • Proposal 9b, initiated by Reaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
  • Proposals 12c, 21, and 21b, initiated by City of Silver, Ritchie333, and HouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
  • Proposal 13, initiated by Novem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
  • Proposal 14, initiated by Kusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
  • Proposals 16 and 16c, initiated by Thebiguglyalien and Soni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at the administrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
  • Proposal 16e, initiated by BilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
  • Proposal 17, initiated by SchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
  • Proposal 18, initiated by theleekycauldron, provides for lowering the RfB target from 85% to 75%.
  • Proposal 24, initiated by SportingFlyer, provides for a more robust alternate version of the optional candidate poll.
  • Proposal 25, initiated by Femke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
  • Proposal 27, initiated by WereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
  • Proposal 28, initiated by HouseBlaster, tightens restrictions on multi-part questions.

To read proposals that were closed as unsuccessful, please see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase I/Closed proposals. You are cordially invited once again to participate in the open discussions; when phase I ends, phase II will review the outcomes of trial proposals and refine the implementation details of other proposals. Another notification will be sent out when this phase begins, likely with the first successful close of a major proposal. Happy editing! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her), via:

G5

See here. Nikkimaria (talk) 02:30, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

@Nikkimaria: WP:G5 states it applies to banned or blocked users, which that account is not. Additionally, that user was included after @Spicy had processed the report. @SuperMarioMan added that username to a closed request instead of submitting a new one, which is what they should have done. Additionally, Spicy also noted no sleepers 5 days ago, so I'm inclined to AGF given that they were not found in the last pass and there hasn't been a proper SPI request submitted. For future reference, it's best to include the SPI links when tagging for G5 deletion. SuperMarioMan, I encourage you to submit a proper SPI request instead of tacking onto an already closed request. Hey man im josh (talk) 02:39, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
Re. Additionally, Spicy also noted no sleepers 5 days ago, so I'm inclined to AGF given that they were not found in the last pass - I wouldn't necessarily make that assumption, especially not in this case. Anyway yes, please open a new SPI filing. Spicy (talk) 09:30, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
That's fair, thanks for the point of clarity @Spicy.
@Nikkimaria: Never the less, the account is not blocked and has not been linked to the sockmaster (yet?), so the pages you tagged are not eligible for G5 deletion. I understand the mistake in this case though, if I looked at the SPI page and not the page history I would have made the same assumption, but been confused as to why the one account wasn't blocked (which is the only reason I looked). Anyways, we'll see how it goes. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:13, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
@Nikkimaria: They were blocked shortly after this exchange (I think), and I have re-nominated the pages for G5 speedy. ☆ Bri (talk) 19:34, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Congrats!

Congratulations once again, Josh!! That watchlist page does come in handy, thanks! Regards, John Bringingthewood (talk) 22:06, 11 March 2024 (UTC)

Thank you, thank you!! Sure does haha. Hey man im josh (talk) 22:08, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
Always my pleasure. I'm going to start typing 'ditto' under those notices. You'll know what I mean, lol. Keep on going!!!! Bringingthewood (talk) 22:11, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
P.S. Good call, Josh! Looks like Barrett is going to the Dolphins! Bringingthewood (talk) 21:11, 12 March 2024 (UTC)
@Bringingthewood: I figured he wasn't done! They'd have let him retire if he had no intention of playing instead of cutting him. Anyways, the more I've thought about it since we talked the more I feel better about the idea of not removing the active tag under the first week of games is over. Players waiting out free agency and training camp, sometimes even pre-season, is all too common. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:25, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
Yeah, that didn't take long at all. First week does sound good, I should have thought of that before touching that page. Thank God it was a painless revert, lol. Catch you when another star is posted!! Regards, Bringingthewood (talk) 02:09, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
Did I miss something overnight regarding Greg Lloyd Pro Bowl highlighted in the career statistics box? Bringingthewood (talk) 02:16, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
@Bringingthewood: A quick look at PFR shows him as having 5. Hey man im josh (talk) 02:31, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
No, no, not the amount, it's the highlight in yellow. I never saw Pro Bowl's added in color for the NFL career statistics chart. Bringingthewood (talk) 02:49, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
@Bringingthewood: I see now that I'm not on mobile. No, we definitely don't display Pro Bowl selections in the stat tables normally. I've reached out to them. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:11, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for reaching out. I think I'm going to have to follow up on some of these. Seems like it's a copy and paste deal with some, because there are no 'led league' and 'NFL record' for a few. Those colors don't need to be there. Whatever, I'll catch up with you soon. Thanks again. Bringingthewood (talk) 00:42, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

Bonito (song)

You removed my article and made it redirect to a broader article. Not very kind and you didn’t really provide an explanation which sucks because I put a lot of effort into it. It was Bonito (Song) referring to the Jarabe de Palo song. BBeachBall (talk) 03:31, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

Hello @BBeachballo. In the page history I mentioned that the article did not meet our notability guidelines for songs, which is WP:NSONG. The song itself may be notable, but the page needs work to prove that and needs to be improved. I've restored the article to the state before I redirected it and I've moved it to draft space. I've also added a submission tag to it, which you can utilize to submit a draft to be reviewed by WP:AFC. You are under no obligation to utilize it, but it's usually a very helpful and useful tool to get feedback when you're writing your first few articles. You can find the draft at Draft:Bonito (song). Hey man im josh (talk) 12:22, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
@BBeachBall: I just realized I pinged the wrong person when I tried to respond to you. Just replying to ping again to make sure you're aware of the above. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:51, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
Congratulations, Hey man im josh! The list you nominated, List of New England Patriots first-round draft picks, has been promoted to featured status, recognizing it as one of the best lists on Wikipedia. The nomination discussion has been archived.
This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured list. Keep up the great work! Cheers, PresN (talk) via FACBot (talk) 00:25, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

That didn't take long!

You're quicker than a free agent finding a new team! CONGRATS!! Regards, John - Bringingthewood (talk) 23:33, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Thank you thank you! Hopefully a new nom up to day or tomorrow! Hey man im josh (talk) 14:28, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
Always a pleasure! Cool! In the promotion message it mentions the word 'rare', I see you don't go along with that, lol. Keep up the great work! Bringingthewood (talk) 20:33, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

Thoughts

I have had a desire to create a page summarizing all of the Green Bay Packers#Rivalries. I was wondering if I could ask your opinion on format. I am struggling between a typical list format (see Draft:Green Bay Packers rivalries) with a Lead, History section, Rivalry section (main table) and maybe a section on "Non-rivalry rivalries". But I fear that with only 8 items, I am in that grey area where I may get opposes based on the list being too short. My other thought was to write it as an article style, with a short blurb summarizing each rivalry and maybe just have the table in a summary section at the beginning. Then take it through GAN instead of FLC. What do you think? « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 14:25, 20 March 2024 (UTC)

@Gonzo fan2007: I think you're right that it would struggle at FLC. I'm not really sure of the best way to go about that either. The blurbs like that at Green Bay Packers#Rivalries does make sense to me if you go that route though, as a "List of Green Bay Packers rivalries", would include some explanation of the rivalry. It'd be tough to do so in a fashion other than blurbs if you wanted to actually explain that these are rivalries I think. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:12, 20 March 2024 (UTC)

Dear Hey man im josh, Hello and Thank you for reply on WP:PERM/NPP but I've decided to take long wikibreak of one week and I've going from Wikipedia temporary because I face few probelm in our personal life , so, I decided to removing my other permission except extended confirmed users ,so, I request to you please remove these permission from my account at this time because I'm not came until 28 March 2024 on Wikipedia.😊~~ αvírαm|(tαlk) 16:04, 20 March 2024 (UTC)

Song redirects again

Hello. I sent you a message regarding ambiguous song redirects in December: User_talk:Hey_man_im_josh/Archive_12#Creating_song_redirects. You said you would "slow down a bit" and try to consider other songs of the same name may be listed at disambiguation pages as I pointed out. In your latest round of song redirect creation, you have missed the numerous songs listed at: Dance with You (as you pointed the miscapitalisation Dance With You and Dance With You (song) to one specific album); In the Night (as you pointed the miscapitalisation In The Night and In The Night (song) to one specific album); Idle Hands (there are multiple songs listed in the hatnote of that article, so Idle Hands (song) is ambiguous); already another song listed at Residue (so Residue (song) should not point to just one album); and you also pointed Art (song) to just one album despite Art (disambiguation) listing at least one song at the time of you creating that redirect. Please consider this further. It would really help. Thanks. Ss112 10:39, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

@Ss112: I have taken care to avoid this happening. I've actually been creating quite a few redirects to disambiguation pages when I find instances where the format would be ambiguous. With that said, I definitely missed the capitalization differences leading to dab pages. Art and Residue are indeed mistakes I shake my head at. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:08, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

Adil Raja's Wikipedia Page

I believe that Adil Raja's Wikipedia page should be reinstated. You asked for a few good reliable website sources. Here are many good, reliable sources. Please bring his page back so I can edit it. Btw, there is some more recent news on him. So I believe that he's eligible for a Wikipedia page. This is definitely more than the 3 required. Moreover, they are form different news agencies including some international news agencies. Lastly, there are different news about him. Not just one main event. Please consider reinstating the Wikipedia page. Do update me with your decision. Thank you so much!! :)

WarriorYt43 (talk) 12:49, 19 March 2024 (UTC)

@WarriorYt43: I did not ask for anything, I closed the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Adil Raja, of which the consensus was to delete. If you want to write about the person then I encourage you to consider doing so in a draft through the WP:AFC process, especially considering your conflict of interest with the subject. Editors will review your draft and give feedback on what issues may exist and, if they believe if to be fit for main space, they'll accept the draft and move it to main space. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:03, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
Alright. I did mention my Conflict of Interest but I'll try to make a very neutral page which they can review. Thank you for the response WarriorYt43 (talk) 14:44, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
Hello Josh. So I made a draft Draft:Adil Raja. Please check it out. I cited everything properly. I need help with something. I told Adil to upload the images as his own work. He did. But they all of his images from his Wikimedia account. How do I upload those images on Wikimedia without them removing them? Last time I uploaded them and Adil emailed them and gave me permission but they still removed them. Are there any different sites that I can use to upload them to make them copyright free? Adil himself is giving me permission. Please assist. Thanks! WarriorYt43 (talk) 14:17, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

NFL Draft capitalization

Josh, I'm unclear on whether you think there are some contexts in Wikipedia text in which it would not be contrary to guidelines to capitalize Draft (in the NFL context). The R from miscapitalization tag is a maintenance thing, useful to help us find such over-capitalization, and fix it; recall that the RfC was about "in article text and titles". It's not an assertion that it's an error to capitalize it in other styles, outside of WP articles. Your edit summary (this is not a miscapitalization/error, it's an alternative capitalization. NFL and all associated teams use a MoS that capitalizes "Draft") suggests you have a different interpretation. Dicklyon (talk) 21:41, 20 March 2024 (UTC)

@Dicklyon: It's not just a maintenance tag. If you read the text of what you added it classifies the pages as an error in capitalization instead of an alternative one. There's a difference and categorizing these capitalizations as incorrect instead of alternative would be inaccurate. Hey man im josh (talk) 21:46, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
If you read a bit more of the template documentation, it says "This redirect is made available to aid searches or to maintain links. Pages that use this link should be updated to link directly to the correct form without using a piped link hiding the correct details." That's the purpose, not to say it would be an error for the NFL or someone else to cap it. Dicklyon (talk) 21:54, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
@Dicklyon: The rcat template states that the capitalization is an error. These capitalizations are not errors, they are alternatives. I mentioned the NFL and the teams of it using an MoS that capitalizes "Draft" as the proper name of an event because it's contextually relevant. While I've accepted that Wikipedia's policies have resulted in downcasing, it's still treated as a proper name in enough situations to say it's wrong to call it an error. Hey man im josh (talk) 21:57, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
I started by asking about "contexts in Wikipedia text in which it would not be contrary to guidelines to capitalize Draft". You're saying there are some. What are they? Dicklyon (talk) 00:14, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
@Dicklyon: What? I'm saying that "NFL Draft" is not an incorrect capitalization when you consider the usage of it. The articles were down cased based on inconsistent capitalization in sources, not based on a determination that it's not a proper name. I encourage you to check out Wikipedia:Template index/Redirect pages. There you will find that r from other capitalization is used for capitalisation differences that are not incorrect. Hey man im josh (talk) 00:25, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
But "incorrect" should be interpreted in the context of Wikipedia. Per Wikipedia style, these are incorrect. We're not telling the NFL or anyone else not to use them, just ourselves. Dicklyon (talk) 00:36, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
@Dicklyon: Technically one title is considered the most correct, but that does not make others wrong. If I follow your logic correctly, then there shouldn't be any pages tagged with r from other/alternative capitalizations. There's wrong and then there's what best complies with policy. It's not a significant difference, but we shouldn't be labelling it as incorrect, which is what the text in the r from miscapitalization outright says. Hey man im josh (talk) 00:45, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
Maybe we should rely more on Template:R from over-capitalization, which says "This shortcut is used specifically to flag cases of redirects from overly capitalized names that violate WP:NCCAPS and MOS:CAPS", though at present it's just a redirect so will show the same message calling it an error. I had taken to using that recently, in at least some, maybe all, of the ones you changed. Dicklyon (talk) 02:18, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
@Dicklyon: Perhaps you should propose a change to the wording of one template or the deletion of one. As it stands now, the redirects are not "incorrect" capitalizations and should not be classified as such. Hey man im josh (talk) 02:21, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
And I'm not sure what "without using a piped link hiding the correct details" means here. Dicklyon (talk) 21:55, 20 March 2024 (UTC)

OK, I started a discussion in the direction you suggested, and listed it at WT:MOSCAPS, where capitalization-related discussions are usually linked, for the benefit of editors who care about such things. So why did you revert that listing, saying it's not an MOS discussion? Most of the other stuff listed there is also not about MOS, but is about capitalization issues. Dicklyon (talk) 10:23, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

@Dicklyon: It's a discussion about rcats, not about the MoS. I think that's pretty clear and adding it to the area that editors canvas for support at is not helpful. Hey man im josh (talk) 10:42, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
Seriously, you think that editors concerned with capitalization are somehow too biased to be invited to a discussion about how capitalization problems are categorized? Dicklyon (talk) 10:48, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
@Dicklyon: I think the MoS pages shouldn't be used to advertise discussions that are not about the MoS. If you should have notified anybody it would be redirect WikiProject. Hey man im josh (talk) 11:07, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
Do you know a good place to notify people who care about capitalization issues, if not MOSCAP? I don't see how this is different from all the other capitalization-related-discussion notifications. Are you wanting to leave such people out of the discussion? Dicklyon (talk) 11:12, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
@Dicklyon: Well there's no capitalization WikiProject. Rcats and the interpretation of their usage are not MoS and I don't really understand the strong push for including that discussion there. Hey man im josh (talk) 11:19, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
That's the thing. There's no capitalization Wikiproject, and if there was there'd be no way to link all the articles it's relevant to. But MOSCAPS is where capitalization issues are typically discussed; not about the MOS, but about its application and interpretation. Sure the other/mis capitalization question falls into that, as RM discussions do. This is where people who argue about capitalization will be found, and they're the ones likely to have ideas about the "error" issue and link maintenance and such. Dicklyon (talk) 11:28, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
@Dicklyon: Why do we need people who argue about capitalization? This is about the interpretation of and intended use of specific rcats. The most relevant WikiProjects would be WP:NPP (they review and tag tens of thousands of redirects every year) and Wikipedia:WikiProject Redirect. Never the less, this is moot, since someone else has restored it and accused me of harassment and I'm not going to edit war to remove it. Hey man im josh (talk) 11:52, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
For one thing, these categories are about maintenance, which is done by people who care about capitalization (and/or "argue about" as you say). If you don't tag the miscapitalizations, they're harder to find and fix. The tag says that's what it's for. Dicklyon (talk) 22:48, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
I hope you did notify those other projects. I'll check later and do so if you haven't. Got to run now. Dicklyon (talk) 22:49, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
@Dicklyon: The tag says it's for errors in capitalization, that's the part that I'm focused on. I'm sorry if someone else built a report out of just one subcategory, but that doesn't mean we should apply an incorrect tag to pages just so they appear in a certain maintenance report. Instead, that report should be modified to include pages from other capitalization and not just from the errors in capitalization category. I also did notify NPP and the redirect WikiProject. Hey man im josh (talk) 23:05, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
That other template says it "is used on approximately 412,000 pages, or roughly 1% of all pages." Not useful for a report. The "mis" template is for things that links to ought to be fixed. Dicklyon (talk) 04:38, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
If they're using a capitalization that links to {{r from other capitalization}} it should still typically be fixed. "It leads to the title in accordance with the Wikipedia naming conventions for capitalisation, or it leads to a title that is associated in some way with the conventional capitalisation of this redirect title." – So, based on MoS, we would want to fix the capitalizations (in most cases) anyways. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:35, 22 March 2024 (UTC)

NPP

Hello, apologies to you bother. I sent you an email a few days ago asking if my request to be a page reviewer could be reviewed, but I am not sure if you saw it, so I am writing on here to let you know. Thanks! Antny08 (talk) 15:08, 22 March 2024 (UTC)

Someone will review your request at their earliest convenience @Antny08. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:11, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
Okay, thanks! Antny08 (talk) 15:27, 22 March 2024 (UTC)

I created it in the mainspace, then moved it to the draftspace per WP:NTV. Someone else moved it back to the mainspace after it met WP:NTV, yet I'm not the creator? Kailash29792 (talk) 12:39, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

@Kailash29792: The creator of the page is shown as Wholog56. I recognize that you created the article that is now in main space, but redirects left behind as the result of a page move are not G7 eligible if nominated by someone other than the person who moved the page (unless the redirect was subsequently blanked after the move). Are you trying to move the main space page back into draft space since someone else had moved it? If so, that would be a G6 deletion, and I would be happy to carry that out. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:41, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
No, I'm gonna leave it at that. Had I known earlier the season started filming, I would've moved it myself and G7'd the draft prefix. But too bad I live in a different time zone. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:45, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
@Kailash29792: I don't understand, is there something wrong with a redirect from draft space pointing to the main space version? Hey man im josh (talk) 12:45, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

Potential for FL?

Hi Josh, just had a quick question since you are a regular at FL and I've not yet broached that topic area. Does the format at Foliosum have potential to become featured if it is made complete? I know that FLs require a sort of gravitas that isn't always obvious to outsiders, and I'm just wondering if there's merit to this kind of article there if they were to be fully fleshed out. I could see myself trying to work on a series of them this year if that is the case. Thank you! Fritzmann (message me) 01:46, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

Hey @Fritzmann2002. I certainly don't consider myself an expert, but I believe I've seen similar enough articles that you could get that to pass at WP:FLC. I've found a number of examples that I think match up with what you're looking to do at Wikipedia:Featured lists#Plants under the names section. I'm not super familiar with the subject myself, but some of those examples there look like what you're trying to do, right? I think if they were up to it, your best person to ask for help would be @Dank. They created and promoted 10 of the 11 lists in that section. A couple notes I have is that you'd need to expand the lead, as two sentences just won't do, and I think you might also need to consider a slight renaming of the article. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:53, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
Thanks! I'll ask them, and I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. Fritzmann (message me) 13:14, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

Good articles

Hi Josh. Stupid question. Can someone just add or remove a good article I_Look_to_You? I'll revert, if I'm wrong I'll put them back. Seems too easy for someone to do such a thing. Bringingthewood (talk) 21:59, 22 March 2024 (UTC)

UPDATE: Myself and two other editors reverted them. They also received a warning. Honestly, I thought only someone like yourself could do those types of edits. Pretty scary if someone doesn't even have to join up to add/remove good articles. Oh well, catch you later. John. Bringingthewood (talk) 21:44, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
P.S. Can I add one to T. J. Watt's page? (You didn't hear that from me, lol.) Bringingthewood (talk) 21:47, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
Shoot, I'm sorry I didn't respond to this @Bringingthewood. No, a user cannot add a good article icon without the article having gone through the Good Article Nomination process. Typically a bot will be the one to add these icons (at least they do for featured articles and lists). Hey man im josh (talk) 12:32, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
Not a problem, Josh. That's what I thought. But I also thought that if an IP or whoever copied and pasted that type of material.. they might get stopped at the door. It doesn't seem that way. Still it's scary when anyone can touch something like that. Hey! Maybe I'll go and make all your articles, "featured articles" ... only kidding! Enjoy the rest of your week. Regards, John Bringingthewood (talk) 00:27, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
Btw, I just edited Calais Campbell, making him a free agent List_of_NFL_career_sacks_leaders. Another editor may drop by and remove the (blue--active), not knowing about our prior conversation. I say this because free agents: C. Jones, Dunlap, and Quinn all show as 'former'. - Bringingthewood (talk) 01:07, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Yekanoglu and Mithras Yekanoglu

Hi! I was hoping for some guidance/assistance on an issue I believe could be vandalism (and is at best COI), but is not blatant enough to report outright. This user, as well as IP User 178.246.119.196, have been adding "Mithras Yekanoglu", unsourced, as a key person/founder on the pages of many large corporations in the petroleum and mining industry (e.g., Vitol, Glencore). My first instinct was that it is vandalism, but one user (who appears to only edit the Vitol page) said in an edit summary that he is a founder. Since the Vitol website doesn't list him alongside the other two founders, I think said user might be mistaken, but with that in mind I don't want to just report this user as a vandal/Wikipedia:NOTHERE. Notably, this user also made a hoax edit to Wikidata so that {{wd-ceo}} would display Yekanoglu instead of the real CEO, Gary Nagle. Your assistance here would be greatly appreciated! Autopatrolled

Hey there, I've just joined NPP and have reviewed a bunch of your redirects. I think you should apply for the Autopatrolled user right, you'd probably be an uncontroversial pass and it would save some time at NPP. You can request it here. All the best, Toadspike (talk) 13:03, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

@Toadspike: A few things;
  1. In case you are unaware, I'm an administrator and can grant myself the autopatrolled user right
  2. Autopatrolled is typically granted to users who have created 25+ problem free articles, though sometimes a user may need to create more than that to qualify if there earlier works had some issues (I do not actually qualify for it)
  3. Autopatrolled is not granted based on redirect (or disambiguation page) creations, so please don't make this same recommendation to others just based on redirect creations
  4. There's actually a separate pseudoright that we call "redirect autopatrolled", of which I'm already a part of (can be found at WP:RWHITELIST)
  5. Redirects created by people on the list are automatically marked as patrolled by a bot task ran every 15 minutes
  6. Recommendations and requests for users to be added to the redirect autopatrol list can be made at Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Redirect autopatrol list, but I recommend you make sure the people you recommend have created at least 100 problem free redirects
  7. Because of the above, and to help reduce the length of the queue, it's recommend (though of course optional) to work from the back of the queue by sorting by oldest instead of newst
Lastly, and most importantly, thank you for the work that you're doing at NPP! Hey man im josh (talk) 13:09, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick reply and all of the info. I was aware of the redirect autopatrolled right, but was not aware that you had it until I saw the bot review one of your redirects, which made me laugh at myself for posting this just minutes before. I'll take your advice and start working from the back. Toadspike (talk) 13:14, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
No problem at all @Toadspike! The key piece of information I wanted to highlight though is that redirects are not all considered for the autopatrolled right. Thanks for the efforts and for the reviews! Hey man im josh (talk) 13:15, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
Right, I'll be more careful telling people to apply for user rights in future. My thinking here was that you're a respected admin and prolific content creator, but I now see that the criteria are more specific than that... Toadspike (talk) 13:20, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
@Toadspike: Not nearly as prolific as you might think! I've actually only created 15 (non-disambiguation page) articles, I just create a lot of redirects, but thank you for the kind words! Hey man im josh (talk) 13:23, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello Hey man im josh,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Sugarhill Ddot - 2024

Hello, pls can you help review Sugarhill Ddot article. Thank You.. You are an administrator. 2RDD (talk) 20:10, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

@2RDD: Sorry, but I do not review articles upon request. Someone from the new pages patrol team will do so at their earliest convenience. Hey man im josh (talk) 20:11, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
Okay. Thank You! 2RDD (talk) 20:12, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

Still needs some work, but wanted to get your initial thoughts on List of Green Bay Packers records. Is there any glaring omissions? Does the format work? Some things I am struggling with:

  • Should I highlight any Packers records that are also NFL records?
  • I was planning to add a section on "Streaks" or "Leading the league". Could include consecutive starts by a QB, 1,000 yard seasons, consecutive seasons leading the league, etc
  • Maybe expanding (and obviously sourcing) the lead.

I am trying to set the article up so there isn't too much fluff (just the main records) and is easily updated. Any feedback or thoughts you have would be appreciated! « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 21:30, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

@Gonzo fan2007: I do like the leading the league stats, and I think those records hold up better than volume stat records and help to paint the picture of how good a player was at one point. I agree with highlighting league records that are listed. It's relevant and interesting information that provides great value to the page while mixing in with the existing content. Just gotta call it out in a way that's accessible.
Streak records get tricky. It's really easy to get spun off into cruft territory. Just some quick thoughts, I'll try to take a better look tomorrow! Hey man im josh (talk) 21:51, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

Page Deletions Following Procedural Keep

Hello,

Shortly after your Procedural Keep determination to the set of sports broadcasting contract pages (housed at [Sports Broadcasting Contracts in Serbia]), a number of the individual country pages were nonetheless deleted by another user. Specifically, as of this note, the following pages have been deleted:

Sports broadcasting contracts in Australia

Sports broadcasting contracts in Israel

Sports broadcasting contracts in Japan

Sports broadcasting contracts in Spain

As these deletions go against the Procedural Keep decision, can you please un-delete these pages, which is something I don't think I can do myself? Perhaps some semi-protection might be in order. Thank you. Coining (talk) 15:08, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

@Coining: I will not be undeleting those pages because they had their own separate AfD discussions which can be found in the deletion summary of those pages. For instance, Australia had Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sports broadcasting contracts in Australia. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:12, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
All four of those pages had their requests for deletion requested to be withdrawn by the original nominator (some of those requests for withdrawal are still in the deletion discussions, and some of them were deleted from the deletion discussions (as can be seen in their edit histories) -- which is something that is not supposed to happen, as I understand deletion discussions should involve adding comments, not deleting prior ones. In any case, visitors to those deletion discussions were directed to go to the consolidated discussion on the Serbia page, and that is where the much more robust discussion occurred - and where I left my comments. I respectfully do not think that on these four pages there was a properly informed user community about where to weigh in, and so the deletions of these pages were premature. Coining (talk) 16:04, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
...which is something that is not supposed to happen – I don't think a user reverting their own request to withdraw an AfD, before that AfD has been withdrawn, is a problem.
The links on the articles always led to the individual as opposed to bundled AfD discussion, so I don't give a lot of weight to the "properly informed community about where to weigh in", aspect. I believe there was adequate participation and policy based rational used in those discussions which resulted in delete. Looking at your comment on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sports broadcasting contracts in Serbia, which you're implying would be the argument used in these other discussions, your argument was, "These articles help out of country viewers determine streaming options, and as such they serve a reference function worthy of encyclopedic value." – As a closer, I would not have given much weight to this argument because Wikipedia is not a TV guide and these articles, in these instances, are/were not necessarily encyclopedic. You're welcome to appeal with @Explicit, the closer of 3 of those 4 discussions, but frankly, I don't see enough to reverse the closure of these in these instances. Participation was adequate, people weren't led to the wrong discussion from the articles, and the rational given at the deletion discussions were appropriate. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:24, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
I appreciate where you are coming from, but at the very least I was led to the wrong discussion, and I don't think it can be presumed that others weren't as well. At the very least, the customary 7-day period of deletion discussions should be extended for the days when users looking at the discussion would reasonably think that their comments should go elsewhere. I will, however, take up with @Explicit. Coining (talk) 16:35, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

Requests for Permissions

Hello! I am really sorry to disturb you, but I really just wanted to ask something, I hope that is okay! I am really interested in getting rollback rights so that I can use Huggle, that really interests me, and I would love to be able to use this to help me with my efforts on Wikipedia. I have put my name forward on the request for rollback rights, but it is quite a long backlog, and I was wondering if there was anything that you could do to help me. I am asking you as I saw you posted on that page a few days ago, and I was wondering if you were aware of how long the wait time might be?

I do apologise for this, but I love Wikipedia and I love helping out and having Huggle as a tool that I can use would be wonderful for me and I would love it if you could help me :)

Sorry to be a pain,

Thanks so much! MrBauer24 (talk) 23:01, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

@MrBauer24: I typically don't review rollback requests. I did however process one recently because the user was blocked, so it was easy and obvious to say not done in that instance. An admin will process the requests at their earliest convenience. Hey man im josh (talk) 23:54, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

There's that rare thing again!

Congratulations, Hey man im josh! The list you nominated, List of Dallas Cowboys first-round draft picks, has been promoted to featured status, recognizing it as one of the best lists on Wikipedia. The nomination discussion has been archived.
This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured list. Keep up the great work! Cheers, PresN (talk) via FACBot (talk) 12:25, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Wow, congratulations, Josh! What an achievement! I'm sorry that it's an article about the Cowboys but you can't have everything. ;-) Liz Read! Talk! 05:41, 6 April 2024 (UTC)
@Liz: Haha thanks for the laugh. Believe me, I'm not a fan of theirs either!! But, I sucked it up because I wanted to complete the series on first-round picks, which I have, and just need to finish nominating all of them. As a Lions fan, I didn't feel great about promoting the Bears article either, but at least it wasn't those damn cheese heads!! Hey man im josh (talk) 11:14, 6 April 2024 (UTC)

Request for protection

Hello @Hey man im josh, I want your help with the page North India. A user whose account seems to be used solely for the below mentioned purpose has been trying revert back to a self created version of the article with dramatic changes again and again. This version [1] was established six months ago by a talk discussion Talk:North India#Region. The user Katkar123596 is refusing to accept the talk consensus version or discuss in the talk page and reverting again and again. Could you please raise the protection of the page to extended confirmed? PadFoot2008 (talk) 14:23, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

Hey @PadFoot2008: Your best bet would be to make a request at WP:RPP/I. I'm just a bit busy at the moment to help out. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:24, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
Hello @Hey man im josh, I don't want to be a disturbance, but could you please spare just a few minutes to look into this matter? I have lodged a request, but this an important article, and I hoped you could quickly sort things out. The page just needs to be protected. PadFoot2008 (talk) 16:09, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi Josh! I thank you for nominating for deletion and thus bringing to my attention Elvio Porcel de Peralta. I expanded the article and he turned out to be a pretty interesting subject. Probably will nominate him for DYK at some point soon: ... that footballer Elvio Porcel de Peralta received a record 97 ejections? BeanieFan11 (talk) 01:25, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

@BeanieFan11: As soon as I saw 97 ejections I knew I messed up! Nobody gets elected that many times without WP:SIGCOV lol. Hey man im josh (talk) 02:02, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

I think the deletion of the page would violate the AfD

While I understand why you deleted the Vaggie page, but such a deletion violates the decision reached at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Vaggie and so it should be restored and changed to a redirect to List of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss characters#Vaggie. So, please restore the page and change it to a redirect to the target I just listed. Thanks! Historyday01 (talk) 15:36, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

Sorry about that @Historyday01, that was definitely a mistake on my part. I've restored the page and edit history. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:40, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi. You deleted User:Allein Hart. Undeletion Request

Good day a page I recreated was recently deleted Codest Boi Under speedy deletion. I kindly request it be undeleted and moved to draft where we can improve it as time goes on because the subject meets the notability but most of the articles he had coverage in were deleted because in most cases African/Nigerian sources take down articles over 3 years so instead of it being a stub and deleted kindly give me sometime to make more research and add more to the draft before I submit for review again because I feel I failed after making research and still coming back short hope you consider this and hopefully grant this request. Jellymanpro (talk) 00:12, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

@Jellymanpro: This was not a speedy deletion, as mentioned when Moboshgu declined your request. What did you find that wasn't presented in the AfD discussion? There was a solid consensus to delete the article. Hey man im josh (talk) 01:13, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi Brother help me once in creating a article after that I will follow your steps to add new information on Wikipedia data

It is a brigraphy article about an IPS officer Sarvesh Raj

Here is the details about him

He was selected as an IPS officer in the 2013 batch. He has served as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Ramanathapuram district and acted as a Superintendent of Police (SP) in Ambatur city. He is currently serving as an Undersecretary in Delhi. He has successfully resolved numerous sensitive issues in Ramanathapuram district. Therefore, I believe he is eligible to have a Wikipedia page.
