Scotland school articles, Talk pages, WikiProject parameters

Greetings, When adding WikiProjects to talk pages, the "importance" and "class" parameters need to be lower-case letters. For some reason "Importance" and "Class" are not recognized. Regards, JoeHebda • (talk) 12:23, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

Category:Deportivo Rayo Cantabria players

Not sure why you're removing this category, it is valid? GiantSnowman 15:13, 14 June 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation - I think the club history needs clarifying one way or the other.. GiantSnowman 15:38, 14 June 2018 (UTC)

@GiantSnowman: Hi, just keeping this going on here rather than cluttering your talk. What would be your thinking on my creating a category eg Category:SD Rayo Cantabria players - the original name is slightly different from the current entity - and I could add the old time players to that, so they would still be Rayo players but kept apart from the separate modern day club? That would seem to be a decent solution to this particular issue, but it would be something that goes against the current (slightly messy) process − I also checked Triana Balompie, now Betis B, and one of their most famous products Rafael Gordillo does not have the Category:Real Betis B footballers category (and none do Triana Balompie exists). However, as I mentioned the other day, most if not all the Plus Ultra players have been added to the Real Madrid Castilla (Real Madrid B) category even though the team had a different name (and a different affiliate status, I think) from the current Castilla entity. The problem with Rayo in particular is due to the unusual situation where a new club has the same name as the old club but is not a continuation, and players from both eras have been added to a common category which shouldn't be the case. I could also remove the category from the new club players, they're only in the fourth tier so not inevitable that a category would be expected, but the name of the existing cat more closely matches the name of the new entity rather than the old. Open to suggestions, but having spotted this (admittedly minor) issue, I kinda want to fix it. Should I ask on FOOTY? Crowsus (talk) 22:41, 19 June 2018 (UTC)

If they are different entities we need separate articles, and separate categories... GiantSnowman 07:36, 20 June 2018 (UTC)
@GiantSnowman: I'm just not sure where Rayo ends and Racing B begins, although I'd probably say 1993. What I am pretty certain of is that old Rayo and current Rayo are not the same club, so the two groups of players shouldn't be in the same category. I would say the current category name could refer to either entity, and it would not be the first time that either an obscure defunct club or an obscure amateur club doesn't have a player cat, so no desperate need to create a second without a corresponding article (which I don't have time to do just now, but can make it a priority if you think I should), so should I remove the old players or the recent ones? Happy to seek consensus in case anyone else us concerned. Crowsus (talk) 08:08, 20 June 2018 (UTC)
I'd suggest seeking wider input from FOOTY. GiantSnowman 08:34, 20 June 2018 (UTC)
@GiantSnowman: OK will do ta. Crowsus (talk) 08:48, 20 June 2018 (UTC)

Hello! Since I know you contributed on the CSA Steaua situation, I though I could approach you to help me with a similar thing.

Universitatea Craiova is a big club in Romania, with many supporters. Between 1948 and 1991 it had won 9 domestic cups. However, in 1991 it separated from the sports club, just like Steaua/FCSB. For almost 20 years, we thought that FC U Craiova 1948 (FC U) was the real Universitatea, but if folded in 2011. In 2013, the sports club refounded the football department, now CS Universitatea Craiova (CS U). The thing is that both club claim to be the real Universitatea, but currently CS U has won the brand and most court cases. They don't have any honours on their UEFA page, but the Liga Profesionistă de Fotbal considers them the team from 1948–1991. FC U only won a Romanian Cup in 1993.

I tried to emphasize this on the CS U page intro, but it needs some grammar/arguments clean-up. Also, the page includes the Uniersitatea Craiova history, while the FC U page is mostly empty. Can you please help with this, just as you did on CSA Steaua's intro? I really wish for everything to be clear and concise.8Dodo8 (talk · contribs) 10:33, 2 July 2018 (UTC)

I can't blame you, it is awful to deal with users in this type of situations. Hopefully the Universitatea pages don't get attacked as often as the Steaua ones. Thanks in advance anyway!8Dodo8 (talk · contribs) 10:55, 2 July 2018 (UTC)

Talk:Julen Lopetegui request

Hi, can you take a look to the last message in Talk:Julen Lopetegui about Supercopa 1990, 1994 Supercopa as runner-ups in the omitted titles request? Thanks.--87.223.117.26 (talk) 06:03, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi, in respect of 1994 I believe you mean 1993. He didn't play in the matches and there has been debate among editors about whether runners-up should be included in honours at all, I think they should for major trophies but not the supercopa and especially not when the player in question didn't take part.
Similarly, in my opinion, none of the players in 1990 should get the super cup honour as they didn't have to do anything to get it. The club was awarded the trophy, but I would be surprised if the players have any medals at home since no matches were played. And even if you want to argue that the regulars should get it due to their efforts to win the league and the Cup, Lopetegui is particularly undeserving as he had only played one league match once the title was already won, and didn't play in the Cup at all. Feel free to ask others to have these added, but I will not be doing so, sorry, I hope I you understand my reasons for this. Crowsus (talk) 06:22, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
I respect your opinion. But undeserving? Well I have seen that there is no consensus regarding honors in second goalkeepers. I think the reasons for not including honours in goalkeepers are reasonable but also could be extended to reserve players, and this would be strange in some cases, reasonable in a few, and unjust in many others. It is true that it is strange to see titles in some players with minor participation or none, but there should be a clear rules about this, it cannot be that some have titles in his honours and others don't with a similar participation.--87.223.117.26 (talk) 09:36, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
What about Luca Zidane?--87.223.117.26 (talk) 20:15, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

I already removed everything but the champions league from Luca as he wasn't involved, and also took out the 'squad honours' from Masip after you pointed it out.

I agree there is inconsistency, and undue honours should be removed from other articles too, but I have other things to do with my time than check whether a goalkeeper was an unused substitute in a cup final. But if I do come across a big list of honours when a player has hardly played for the club, I'm not afraid to investigate and remove them. As I said, if you can find someone willing to add the cups to Lopetegui, fine, but it won't be me. Others have also explained why they don't want to add them. Not sure why it is so important to you. Neutrality issues.

Hello, and apologies for not doing this when I tagged the article. The issues are pretty light, just removing a word or two. For example, in the history section, remove the world "blighted" from the sentence about drugs, and also in the transport section, remove the word "good", from the sentence about buses. It would be nice to also remove the word "frequent" from the same sentence aswell. A few sources on the lead about the section being farmland in the thirties would be appreciated. Overall, whilst they are some POV issues. The article is researched and sourced well, so good work! Have a nice day. The Duke of NonsenseWhat is necessary for thee?. 20:57, 10 July 2018 (UTC)

Glaswegian pushpin maps

Thanks for your efforts to update Glaswegian maps. I was thinking about Moodiesburn for example. While the Glasgow (not Greater Glasgow) map is interesting it doesn't seem best to me that it's the default map for a town in North Lanarkshire. The North Lanarkshire map itself is way out of date particularly the motorways. It makes looking at the map of most places pages in North Lanarkshire genuinely confusing since several of the motorways have been upgraded since the map was produced. It looks as if there's no motorway anywhere near Coatbridge which is likely to cause confusion if readers don't know the area. The alternative (shown for example on Cumbernauld) is to use the relief map but that is probably not the best way to go either. If you know anyone who can change the order of the default (so NL is shown first on Moodiesburn) or you know anyone who can update the North Lanarkshire map it would be appreciated. Perhaps it might be possible to persuade someone to produce a Greater Glasgow map and put it here. It led me to Jericho, Oxford which illustrates how I think the Greater Glasgow map ought to look. There are other places like Castlecary which is right on the border of NL for which a map of the village in relation to Falkirk might be interesting but again shouldn't be default.AndrasSkot (talk) 07:04, 28 July 2018 (UTC)

Not quite sure about the logic of using a map of the Glasgow council area to illustrate articles for places that aren't within the city boundaries, seems potentially confusing. I agree that a Greater Glasgow map could be useful, however. --Jellyman (talk) 07:29, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
@AndrasSkot:@Jellyman:: Definitely agree that the default should be the council area that they are in as that would allay the confusion, but not sure how to achieve that in the coding? I originally tried it for the South Lanarkshire articles for Rutherglen etc, where the existing map was fairly useless as it covered the entire council area, so didn't really show the location of the individual place due to the scale, whereas in the Glasgow map it is quite clear to see. A Greater Glasgow map would be more appropriate as a second option, although I feel that's basically the same area as in the existing council map box, again agree that the more detailed style would be a nice contrast and also help to make it obvious that the places concerned are not in the Glasgow council area. If you know anyone with graphics/map experience please point them to any one of the articles, then if they are able to tweak it, I could do the same with the others. In the meantime I understand your concerns so please revert if you like, being from one of the 'border towns' myself I am very much aware of the issue over these places being keen to identify as separate towns and not parts of Glasgow! I will have a look to see if I can find a better alternative. Crowsus (talk) 09:11, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
PS I tried this test edit on Moodiesburn, removing the local authority parameter and adding the North Lanarkshire SVG map in front of the Glasgow one in the pushpin code. That makes NLC the default map (also offering an unnecessary Scotland option) but it means the council is no longer linked in the Infobox. So certainly not a perfect solution. I had a look at the Glasgow maps but the equivalent of the Oxford one is this, which is awful, it just fades out at the edges, missing out a lot of places that are within Glasgow, never mind the nearby places outside the boundaries! Crowsus (talk) 09:38, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
@Crowsus:@Jellyman:: I prefer the way you've now got Moodiesburn; I changed Castlecary to be similar. I would argue that since the map has no key, someone from outside the area would find it very difficult to make sense what the blue lines mean, the colour being more natural for rivers. For example in NL there is no coast nor is easy to identify the population centres nor are the motorways up to date. At least with the Falkirk map you can see the coast and get your eye in. It's not terribly hard to knock up some maps with QGIS but the resulting file would look different from the rest of the UK so I wouldn't personally want to spend much time on it. The main problem is that Wikipedia is lagging behind the technology. I would expect as more people become proficient in QGIS there will be multiple maps available on every geographical Wikipedia page. Also the QGIS shape files to generate the maps should be put on Wikimedia which I don't see happening at the moment. Overall it's probably a high level decision but it's annoying the NL map is so badly wrong and there's no easy way to update it.
@Jellyman: Have you had a chance to look at Moodiesburn, would that be a decent alternative across the board do you think? Before I go changing any others. Any articles which didn't have the (correct) local authority linked in the lead, I would be adding it in for clarity. Cheers. Crowsus (talk) 22:13, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
Certainly better with the actual council area first, still think having an area the location isn't in is somewhat unsatisfactory and potentially confusing, but in the absense of a Greater Glasgow map, it'll do for now. --Jellyman (talk) 14:57, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for restoring, with a reference, the stats I removed. In response to this comment: Of course I am aware of CN tags, but neither is removing unsourced content from a BLP a scold-worthy offence. Mattythewhite (talk) 00:30, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Ethan Ampadu

It's been long established at WP:FOOTBALL. The logic is this - John Smith makes his first team debut aged 16 in 2016. He then goes back into the youth team for a year, making a further first-team appearance in 2017. He goes back to the youth team for a further year, and then enters the first team again for one game in 2018, before returning. If we go with your stance, the infobox must look like this:

John Smith
Youth career
2010–2016 Youth Team
2016–2017 Youth Team
2017–2018 Youth Team
2018– Youth Team
Senior career*
Years Team Apps (Gls)
2016 Senior Team 1 (0)
2017 Senior Team 1 (0)
2018 Senior Team 1 (0)
*Club domestic league appearances and goals

That looks ridiculous! Also what about established senior players who are demoted to the youth team for discipline, or who are coming back from injury etc.? GiantSnowman 11:10, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Athletic Bilbao in European football you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Allan Campbell

I see you're saying alongside your last edit (Nope sorry it has to be be this way, they are senior appearances but not for Motherwell 1st team). To me that doesn't matter as the under 20/21 sides are not teams where players are registered separately from the senior side. You say the matches aren't for the senior side however it is a senior competition. So with that I feel that a note on the statistics table explaining the matches were for that side in the Challenge Cup is enough. However this is more about the use of the word has in your edit summary. As I said I can't see that there was any agreement about layout anywhere, all I can find is one person suggesting the way you have done it, with one other person adding further details to that. If you can show me anywhere that it has to definitely be done your way then that's fine, otherwise I don't see that there's a right or wrong way. A Well Fan (talk) 19:24, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Matt294069, per the GAN instructions, I am going to delete the sub-page and reset the nomination. That way it will stay at the top of the queue. If I have the time in the next week I may start to review it. Cheers, « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:07, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

I know that I didn't review the article but when I looked through the article before cancelling my nomination, I did have some thoughts about the article. The main things being the Progress charts and the Map of visited destinations sections of the article as I just find that to be WP:TRIVIAL and isn't really needed in the article. That and the fact that adding some of the domestic cup results also isn't really needed in the article as its goes off topic to the article that is in play there. Animation is developing 04:10, 20 September 2018 (UTC)

Matt294069, thanks for the comments. I agree about the chart and maps, they were features I saw on foreign language versions of the topic and thought they looked smart so just added and adjusted them, but they aren't typical for such articles and don't add much. I won't personally be removing them until instructed in the review itself, but if you think they should go now, please take them out. I would disagree with the domestic cup aspect, because that is often how the team qualifies for Europe so it all ties in. I don't recall any of that being overly detailed other than maybe 1977 and/or 2012 but those were exceptional seasons, they don't reach many finals so to get to two and lose them both is unusual and worthy of a mention and a ref in both of instances. But if there's any other examples you can can think of and you have time to highlight it, please do so and I'll have a look. Thanks. Crowsus (talk) 07:40, 20 September 2018 (UTC)

I understand where that is coming from as its like trying to judge if its really needed or not. That is something that might be a common stable over on a different language might not be common here and vice versa with something common here but not on another version of Wikipedia. Not Homura (talk) 08:44, 20 September 2018 (UTC)

The article Athletic Bilbao in European football you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Athletic Bilbao in European football for things which need to be addressed. Rivalries

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentina_national_football_team#Rivalries

Me: "Shouldn't this go in the Nigeria team page?" You: "It is on that page too."

Hello, I was aware that section was on the Nigerian page, but I was wondering if that shouldn't go on that article alone (like it happens with the Colombian team article for instance: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colombia_national_football_team#Rivalries). The reason I was asking this is because you can't have a "one-sided rivalry", and the 4 rivals that are also recognized for the Argentine side were the ones that were already there.

The article Athletic Bilbao in European football you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Athletic Bilbao in European football for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already been on the main page as an "In the news" or "Did you know" item, you can nominate it to appear in Did you know. DYK for Athletic Bilbao in European football

On 8 November 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Athletic Bilbao in European football, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in the UEFA matches played by Athletic Bilbao in European football, the club used only one player who was a full international for a country other than Spain? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Athletic Bilbao in European football. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Athletic Bilbao in European football), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Basque women's team

Hi Crowsus, the current squad is completely unreferenced as is the recent call ups section so both should be removed. Additionally we normally only include in recent call ups players who have been called up within the last 12 months, so essentially no one in the current squad or recent call ups should be in there, hence why I removed them. It d9esntvreally make much sense to hang on to a current squad that is not current and is outside the accepted time frame f9r 8nclusion 8n recent call ups. Hello there,

two cents dropped at the WP:FOOTY you just created. Also, i know will not accept my apologies (no personal contact - which i would have preferred - i do thank you for pinging me so i would take part in the discussion) but i present them, just to clear my conscience so to speak (i told at the thread and i'll repeat it here, no defence for several of my summaries).

Attentively, sorry for any inconvenience (another thing i said there and repeat at your talk page) --Quite A Character (talk) 04:28, 27 November 2018 (UTC)

  • WOW! One line just to say his place of birth?! Article utterly (in my humble opinion of course, valid as the others) scrambled, no point in editing there again. However, since i am "hooked" to the bone, will have another go (replacing size of dashes, relocating that ghastly one-liner to start of club career), let's see if those perfectly correct adjustments are not reverted as well by the chaps that edited there today...

Bits and pieces

Resounding win for our club in the Copa del Rey today, not so fortunate a fate in the domestic league... Could it be cosmic payback for having a foreigner for the first time in history (by the way, Ganea made his competitive debut today, nearly DECEMBER, what is this guy adding that a youth product does not?)? I mean, for me Laporte and Lizarazu were as well, but whatever to some people (and at least those two cases were more coherent with Athletic's policy)...

Pathetic the state of football nowadays, a bunch of racist managers running wild (not backing down one inch from this statement, R-A-C-I-S-T! Sportswise at least, (example follows) Porto manager says "If you're Portuguese then you don't deserve to be on my team"). Have a look at the Champions League today (and yesterday it was pretty much the same): Atlético Madrid two Spaniards, Monaco five Frenchmen (this team used to play with ZERO not so long ago, maybe Henry is trying something different); CSKA Moscow five Russians (they sure like to naturalise them Brazilians, but at least the local pool is always reasonable), Galatasaray two Turks; Dortmund two Germans (habitual, "great" job Michael Zorc!), Brugge two Belgians; PSV seven Dutch (so of course they are the group's punching bag, those were the days when they ousted Real Madrid and others from the European cups), Barcelona three (the only team in the world in this age that played with 11 homegrown players once (please see here https://www.abc.es/deportes/futbol/20121125/abci-barcelona-canteranos-vilanova-201211252131.html), 10+Messi, they must have felt awkward doing that, no doubt it's better like this!); Tottenham three nationals, Inter Milan two Italians; PSG two Frenchmen (Adrien Rabiot sure is an idiot, first doing that with Deschamps then arriving late for a training camp with his club, but i bet if Neymar does the same Tuchel will turn a blind eye, the racist!); Napoli one national (in the ENTIRE SQUAD!!), Red Star seven Serbs (of course, another punching bag, but sure showed Liverpool at home early this month, shove it Klopp, although it should be fair to say Liverpool played that match with FOUR English players, too much for their habitual standards so they lost, played with fire there - oh and Napoli finished today's match with a "clean" 11, wish Ancelotti nothing but the worst); Porto zero Portuguese players (punk Sérgio Conceição is one of the most racist managers out there, and i also bet if he goes abroad later in his career he'll suddenly crave for Portuguese players!), Schalke three Germans.

Oh, and in the Europa League it's pretty much "same old, same old", i've seen Bulgarian teams (Ludogorets) play with ONE Bulgarian player and more than one Cypriot ballclub fielding NONE of their own... What on earth is this (and please do note, Jean-Marc Bosman is not to blame at all for the current state of affairs at least in my book, who forces clubs to buy shitloads of foreigners even for the academy)?!

Sorry for the (long) rant, happy editing --Quite A Character (talk) 23:09, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

  • I think Aduriz is finished as a player, i sure hope to be mistaken. Today's match was against a top tier opposition (more second tier, actually, but they are in the top echelon without stealing from anybody, so credit is due), so maybe it's a sign of recovery. José Bordalás, the coach of the opposition in the last league fixture, another lousy racist (but his two best players are this one and this one, so i wager they won't be replaced by an African or an Uruguayan any time soon...)! But with the solid defensive system he has managed to build around this group (of course, it would be impossible to do that with national players, sarcarsm off!), who can criticise him? Well, i can!!

Cheers --Quite A Character (talk) 00:13, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

NOT AGAIN, man! I think it would be best to address the matter at WP:FOOTY, to see if a bot can perform the deed. Me, i'm as dumb as they come regarding templates and akin... --Quite A Character (talk) 12:58, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

More bits and pieces

Maybe you'd be interested in reading this message i sent to a fellow user, there you will see exactly what i think of this person in case you have still not heard it from me or elsewhere (please see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Messirulez#Bits_and_pieces). Also, if more proof is needed of what we talked earlier this week (managerial racism galore), have a look at those two match sheets from the Premier League (at the bottom of the message) and "feast" your eyes... Disgusting and pathetic!!

  • Thanks for the thorough and interesting reply! Yes, that term i utter could be misleading, hence i said they are "racist sportswise", don't know any of them in real life to say if they are racist overall (nor do i want to! If i ever get the chance to talk to one in person, i'll only ask, face to face "Why do you hate national players?"). Speaking of world(s) upside down, how about them Rangers (don't know if you support any team in your country, and if so which, but i think my approach here is not belittling, or if it is it's not ESPECIALLY belittling)? I don't know if they had any English player last season, S. Gerrard enters the picture and...VOILÁ, now they have EIGHT!

Keep it up --Quite A Character (talk) 22:37, 1 December 2018 (UTC)

  • Yep, Lumbreras is indeed a LA LIGA classic, but how could I forget Miguel Ángel Fuentes? Started it to help out, only stuff missing is the club career storyline, a ref for his major in management and his brother (quite funny I could not find sources for those two, if all else fails we'll have to resort to BDFUTBOL...)

Doubts: 1 - competitive matches in intro (I went with BDFUTBOL and inserted an estimate, the older Copa del Rey seasons in lack they now give him 473), I'm sure we can find that in the web; 2 - I went all WP:BOLD and assumed Eibar was a loan, but not sure to be perfectly honest; 3 - funny that the reserves played in the third level since 1980 onwards and BDF has data from the tier from 1983/84 onwards, but nothing is shown in his entry (again a WP:BOLD move from yours truly, copied what I read in the several Spanish entries of the encyclopedia - none sourced, but they all state same period with the B's).

Cheers again --Quite A Character (talk) 13:10, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

  • Kind fellow User:MYS77 has helped out, great (I did tip him on the subject to be fair)! Turns out those Sociedad B years were rubbish. --Quite A Character (talk) 14:15, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

Finished (minor) cleanup at Mr. Fuentes, now only one ref missing (his major in management/economics/whatever). Cheerio, until some other "wiki-time" --Quite A Character (talk) 21:39, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

Hello. No problem with your reversion at all. only sorry for making work for you to do. The play-offs thing was purely my ignorance, I hadn't realised they'd played anything other than regular-season matches: thank you for correcting/explaining. You're probably right about the 15/16 season. It just looked so wrong, having a row full of zeroes for a season when he actually wasn't eligible for any of those competitions. But if I was going to touch it at all, I should have replaced them with dashes rather than removing the row. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:20, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

I think that if the row stays, it ought to be dashes, but it will look stupid. He was on the first-team bench for at least one competitive match in each of 11/12, 12/13 and 13/14, so technically, should those seasons get a row of zeroes? One can take these things too far... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:07, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

Bilbao stuff, so i write here as well :) Payback has no place in this world, or at least not in SPORTS, but i'll say this one today was a much-needed win, never saw that one coming!

Happy week, cheers --Quite A Character (talk) 22:23, 13 January 2019 (UTC)

@Quite A Character: No, me neither, especially following the typical result in the Copa! I have still to watch it, but at least I can do so with a smile on my face from the start (don't know the score, only the outcome!) Crowsus (talk) 22:47, 13 January 2019 (UTC)

Did not watch it either, Sport TV has discontinued the Spanish League after the prima donna left for Italy, competition has zero interest for them as well as 99,999999999999999999% of the Portuguese patriots! Speaking of Bilbao (Iñaki W.), surely you will agree with my last composition (maybe you did not notice it when you inserted the ref), the Diario AS article speaks directly about it (41 home matches, no goals), so no need for the ghastly (as ref in text, that is) BDFUTBOL ;)

Keep it up --Quite A Character (talk) 10:52, 14 January 2019 (UTC)

@Quite A Character: (apologies for the length of this!) Um, can't say I do agree with removing the ref since I went to the bother of adding it in the first place, although I'm not going to try and put it back in, it isn't worth an argument. It's not as if the link was going to just his general page: the url saves the filter, so it was showing the full list of home fixtures he had played without scoring. I know the written ref mentioned it in passing but I thought it might be helpful or interesting for readers to be able to see the statistical breakdown. I agree with you that a text ref is preferable to stats, and to find and present a stat which journalists haven't commented on is bordering on OR. But I don't really see the problem in using a reliable statistical website as an additional ref when it reinforces what a written article has also stated. And sometimes the newspapers get it slightly wrong when you look into it.
Anyway, I've now added another two (written) refs for his 100th match in a row. Here's an example of when the newspapers can be slightly wrong and a stat site can be a useful backup: Sid Lowe (a fantastic journalist) states in ref "He was playing his 100th consecutive game for Athletic – a feat no player had matched at any club in 25 years" but check at Bdfutbol shows Diego López did so in 2010 and another few goalies also reached 100 in that time span. Therefore I've changed the mention to outfield player which does go back 25 years, maybe that's what he meant. Hope you think that adjustment is OK. Definitely worthy of mention I think (but I haven't added that Bdfutbol page as a ref, don't worry, haha)
PS, are the Portuguese really not interested in Spain post-Ronaldo? I mean, comparing it to (huge) Scottish interest in English football is a bit unfair with different language, bigger population etc but it's still one of the top leagues 'next door' with better quality than what's on offer at home, so I'm surprised if they don't like it, please don't say they all just follow Juventus and the crappy Premier League. For the TV, I don't know if you'd be able to from your location, but for UK residents, if you go on BET365 website and put £1 in the account, you can see the Spanish matches live (crap quality but not bad for free and legal, better than attempting to stream on weird websites). I only found that out the week after I paid £50 to Eleven Sports for the season, and there's quite a few faults on their app so it's a lot of money just to watch Athletic when it doesn't even always work right. Bah. Crowsus (talk) 00:39, 15 January 2019 (UTC)

I apologise if you felt/feel offended with that (apparent) lack of respect for your work, but i sincerely do not see the point in adding a sheet with stats to source wording when a newspaper article sources it 100%. But my apologies, nonetheless, and of course your new additions to SuperWilliams were very very positive.

Of course, unless he truly is a one-club man, he is leaving any day soon now, but of course not to Real or Barcelona, as you know those two prefer the Vinicius, the Arthurs, the Coutinhos and the Hazards (he HAS to come, even if for 500 million euros!) and the whole shebang of "stars". As Atlético and Sevilla of course, but in that department my country is way way WAY worse (in the last Sporting-Porto derby, both teams finished with ONE Portuguese player on the pitch)!

Sure thing, about Sport TV and the Portuguese media in general, and many of my compatriots are now (or seem to be) Juventus hardcore fans now, fuck Real Madrid (all over the internet, people have still not ceased insulting the latter club for selling the prima donna for "only" 100 million - pathetic disgusting statement, with children dying of starvation all over the world; in this site, https://www.zerozero.pt/, which i consult regularly, the Spanish League has "dropped" from first to third in order of the foreign leagues' importance, just click "COMPETIÇÕES/COMPETITIONS" and you will see), and the media (mostly Portuguese, but of course from other countries, still fail to see what this punk has that merit to be worshipped, read this for instance https://www.marca.com/futbol/betis/2019/01/13/5c3a568fe5fdea6f0c8b461a.html, stop kissing his ass already!! Oh, and bet my left hand he's going to play every minute in the Nations League final four, as CAPTAIN, after saying "up yours" to the qualifying stage).

Thanks for that tip for live footy on the net, but no thanks mate, getting a bit fed up with watching football overall. Commentators are idiots (99,99999999% of them), spectators don't know how to behave (not the same percentage but a BIIIIIIG one) and there is no team identity any more (oh, and let's not forget the wives/friends/players themselves resorting to the goddamn social media to vent their frustration(s), bunch of pathetic cowards, have this one as a "shining" example https://www.marca.com/buzz/2019/01/14/5c3be26d22601d2c2e8b461f.html, and as one of the persons commenting on this "piece of news" aptly points out (not with the following words, those are mine), "And THIS is news, the friend of a player fuming all over a keyboard?"). I'm content to watch the odd match summary here and there, some YouTube footage and the match sheets.

Off to bed now, tomorrow is a working day. Have a good night yourself! --Quite A Character (talk) 01:15, 15 January 2019 (UTC)

And it goes on...

Yesterday, FC Porto used 14 players in their win over G.D. Chaves, ALL 14 were foreigners! Also, have a look at this "charming" match sheet (https://pt.soccerway.com/matches/2019/01/19/england/premier-league/arsenal-fc/chelsea-football-club/2795491/?ICID=HP_MS_01_08), no shame anymore...

Enjoy the rest of your weekend --Quite A Character (talk) 17:52, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

  • Fernando Ferreira Fonseca, was wondering as to why all the vandalism today... Say no more, say no more, Celtic are trying to sign him! Are 99,9999999999999999% of the people reduced to this moronic idiocy when it comes to football? They are, in some cases the language may be all kempt and polite and whatnot but the hatred is there (in this case of Fonseca, not even the language)!

Cheers --Quite A Character (talk) 01:03, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

  • Don't worry, not restricted to Scottish people (the idiotic approach commenting football), you should see my country's football forums and/or chants, some stuff is downright vomitive. I do acknowledge the seriousness of most aspects surrounding the Old Firm derby, you mix soccer and religion you got a time bomb on legs!

Another point from the lads (and why sign Ibai G? That must mean Susaeta is past his prime (as M. Rico and Iturraspe seem to be), looking very good this run, unfortunately (for me, another club who signs cheap and local for the most part, that went SUPERB for them in the last decade, so to anyone who wants to shout in my general direction "See, that's what you get for playing mostly with national players!" I'd say "hold your horses") Villarreal smell like Segunda from a mile! --Quite A Character (talk) 10:29, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Stop the presses, Porto signed a PORTUGUESE player! Unfortunately: 1 - he's only been signed most likely to prevent Alex Telles from melting down in the final stretch (has been playing all matches and minutes since day one, even cups!); 2 - would not be a bit surprised if he switches allegiance to G. Bissau any day soon! --Quite A Character (talk) 11:52, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

  • More football "logic": this guy is not good enough for Barcelona (yes, it seems he was refusing to renew his contract, but he has been ostracized since day one, as the "horrible" Paco Alcácer before him), but this one is (no comparison in terms of athleticism, and perhaps even better skillwise, but an oldtimer and troublesome as they come)? Valverde knows "best"... --Quite A Character (talk) 12:18, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
Yeah I saw that one earlier and had a good laugh about it! Also saw he put a #EnjoyPrince tag on his hello message, as if the fans are so so lucky to get a player as amazing as him! The ego has landed. If Messi or Suarez starts before him, he'll be confused and angry... And yeah Alcácer and Munir are far better! Crowsus (talk) 12:29, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

This one and his twin played for your fav team back in the day, old farts still at it, and how! --Quite A Character (talk) 12:40, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

"Ranting updates"

Hi there, all well?

Another win for the lads (which I soon will cease to support if this continues) against Real Betis, and ANOTHER FOREIGNER? What on earth is this (especially when the team is kind of taking off)?!

Nevermind, still had a "soulful" with the results of Chelsea (Gary Cahill is rubbish it seems, but hey Rüdiger and D. Luiz sure avoided a 4-0 routing...oh wait!), Liverpool vs. the Foxes and Sporting CP against Vitória de Setúbal (both drew one all). These three "great" teams combined for a total of national players of...TWO!!

No feeling one way or the other on Juventus' domestic cup elimination, Atalanta B.C. fielded...no Italians whatsoever!!! Enjoy your weekend, keep it up --Quite A Character (talk) 14:08, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

@Quite A Character: Hello! Always good to update on wins while it remains a nice surprise. I watched it, Betis were playing a suicidal system of short passing out from the goalkeeper in the first half, Athletic easily picked them off several times and should have scored a few more before they sorted themselves out. Table looks so much better now.
I wouldn't say Kodro is a foreigner, born and bred in Donostia and a Real product so that's all fine, but am very doubtful that he has the quality to make any difference since he failed at Osasuna as far as I know. 3.5 deal as well, that's too long if he fails. I'm supportive of giving unexpected players a chance (Koikili, Toquero, Ibai) but this seems a bit optimistic / desparate...
I always want Juve, Chelsea and Madrid to lose. Rangers as well but happy for them to win in Europe. Shame about Atalanta, they used to have a strong youth philosophy. Maybe they just sign very young foreign players now instead and develop them. Probably makes sense financially. Crowsus (talk) 18:31, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for the comeback, as always coolly countering my histericals :) Nope (with all due respect to you), Kodro IS a foreigner, he has chosen to represent BiH (nine caps so far https://www.national-football-teams.com/player/67674/Kenan_Kodro.html). --Quite A Character (talk) 18:50, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

I am THE LAST person to complain about anyone's edit summary approaches. I just felt a bit sad when I left my note to you yesterday, only to be left "talking" to myself. Oh well, all addressed now, tonight go Man U (most of my compatriots are rooting for PSG because the English mistreated José Mourinho so badly, according to them this punk, like Ronaldo, is NEVER to blame for ANYTHING, seasoned nuns do not hold a candle to these two) and Roma (do I need to explain why?)! --Quite A Character (talk) 14:12, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

  • INDEED, I did perform minor tweaks to your (very good) storyline additions in Mr. Karanka, only noticed it now after a more careful look at the edit history. Thus, your thinking my summary was (also) aimed at you was 100% justified, but I assure you (cannot force you to believe me, unfortunately) it was not!

Apologies if you felt offended, nonetheless --Quite A Character (talk) 14:23, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for the support, but right now it's too much for me to handle. The saddest part for me? I try to be polite (fuck, even friendly), they keep throwing the book at me. I know, this is an e-n-c-y-c-l-o-p-e-d-i-a, but can't we all just get along (if you see the last WP:FOOTY thread i started, regarding Leonardo Jardim, it boggles the mind: i start it so that the other user sees i'm not making things up, notify them, and am still called pathetic in the end?! See message to me above the one you have just posted on, a never-ending beef it seems)?

Cheers, continue the good work --Quite A Character (talk) 03:02, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

Football: 1 - no relegation for the lads (almost a given), Aduriz is as retired as a dodo but Kodro (as Ganea before him) did not add anything to "the mix". The man that the team desperately needed in my opinion was Raúl García, a midfield beast;

2 - 99,99999999999 of my compatriots are having a field day after Juventus' match yesterday (I refuse(d) to watch any highlights, but I know that the last goal came through a "trademark move". I also refuse(d) to see any commentaries in sites, just to show you the "level" of things in matter of footy interaction in my country regarding those two, there is a WWW.ZEROZERO.PT user that loves Ronaldo like he's his mother, named FIFAForeverReturns - ALWAYS addressing the player as CR7 - that once compared Messi to... Carles Aleñá!!), and if Barcelona are ousted today they'll literally orgasm (they also rejoiced like hell after Madrid met that fate last week, how dare they treat the prima donna like that, "only" increasing his salary every 3/4 months and engaging in ridiculous campaigns (Marca anyone?) for the Ballon d'Or)! Cheers, continue the good work (not me, I will stick to updating boxes and adding honours from now on). --Quite A Character (talk) 14:31, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

@Quite A Character: I wouldn't even engage that arsehole in conversation, having had a look at their previous, just a nasty person who wants to argue. Needless to say, I understood you just fine on their talk page as usual! I saw Ronaldo preening in an advert for underwear (bearing his name, of course, and wearing nothing else) and thought of what your reaction would be, haha. Yeah Raúl García is really important, another the wrong side of 30 tho. I'm very relaxed abut their season now, safety is certain and I feel getting into Europe might be more of a distraction than a bonus looking at the current squad, so it might end up another tough season, but of course I'll be happy if they get in for the prestige because it's been a long time since there was any really embarrassing results. Just hope Sevilla don't win it again this year, I'm getting bored of those guys. Crowsus (talk) 14:53, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

Don't see Athletic reaching the EL by any means unfortunately, how on earth will they overtake Betis, Valencia, Sevilla and Alavés (all will drop points here and there, but not all the points and Athletic will also not win all the matches until the end), let alone the "mighty" Getafe? Only the sixth place makes it to the EL, seventh if Sevilla/Valencia/Villarreal win the competition and move up to the CL.

That being said, i'm glad that yet again no relegation will befall, the rest is a bonus ;) --Quite A Character (talk) 20:24, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

History of football in Scotland

That's OK, I knew it would be taken down. I was just trying to add some more information because I felt the whole section above it showed the Old Firm dominance clearly and even in my edited table I thought it was still plain to see. I added it because the whole article only really talked about Celtic and Rangers dominance which is well known and obvious anyway. Asturias-Catalonia (1922 matches)

Hi, Crowsus. I have doubts about these games as looking at the main local newspaper of Gijón, I did not find any evidence about these matches. In the date of the first one (9 Apr 1922) there is a Copa del Rey match between Barcelona and Real Sporting, and El Molinón, the supposed venue of the match, holded a friendly match between Stadium Ovetense and UD Racing.

I'm not sure about the reliability about this edition (more thinking there was another one between Nov 1922 and Nov 1923 that Asturias won). This CIHEFE article, a Spanish association formed by football historians, disagrees with these theorical edition saying that there was a hiatus between the editions of 1918 and the one that stated in November 1922. And if there were simply friendly games, there is not any evidence at the Asturian newspaper I could search.

Greetings. Asturkian (talk) 17:23, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi. As you suggested, I'll delete these games until a reliable source is located. I'll try this weekend to search it. Good night. Asturkian (talk) 21:25, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi there,

please, can a brother get a hand here? In the thousands of articles i have edited in i have the position as "defenders", not "fullbacks". Never had a problem whatsoever.

Please, accommodate the article for coherence (related note, i think i brought forth the need of merging "wingers" into "midfielders" and then we would only have GK, DF, MF and FW which suffice 100%, but it never came to fruition). Happy weekend (and Athletic with the possibility of reaching the Champions League (and Getafe faltering in the last fixtures), whaddya know?) --Quite A Character (talk) 18:24, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

  • Game over! But not for the idiotic sports press in my country, the adulation continues. In Record, one headline read "The support messages [to their brother] from Ronaldo's sisters that stunned the Juventus fans". What great people this family is, saviours of the world and apparently not just the illiterate one. Scumbags the lot of them, and the press that engages in this ass-kissing even more so (the Rádio e Televisão de Portugal, the STATE channel mind you, aired the news that, in the first leg, one kid who was on the pitch with the players during the lineups and "the millions song" was looking at Ronaldo with the pure admiration/joy only a child is capable of, and when the god saw that he touched him on the cheek https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKRqQWF5x1s, marvellous beyond words don't you agree? I don't remember if it was on RTP or elsewhere in the Portuguese media, but some called it "one moment that is bringing the whole world to tears", WTF?!)

In his last action yesterday (the tackle on Joel Veltman, I can't stand the sight of Ronaldo, but I admit the tackle was not that of a big deal, Portuguese went for it a bit out of frustration but nothing else https://as.com/futbol/2019/04/16/videos/1555448226_045917.html), the Portuguese media reads "IN SPAIN, they are saying the dark side of Ronaldo is rearing its ugly head again". LOL, meaning "The jealous and ugly Spaniards are saying that, not we"!!

Game over like I said, wouldn't mind seeing Ajax go all the way but if Barcelona takes it I'll be more than happy as well (seeing the heart-attack faces of my sheep compatriots). Tonight (FCP vs LIV) go reds, neither team has any Portuguese players, but I happen to like this guy (see this other chap).

Take care, sorry for the ranting :) --Quite A Character (talk) 11:22, 17 April 2019 (UTC)

Scotland matches

The difference is that stupid match against Hong Kong League, which everyone (apart from FIFA) seems to count as an official game (but shouldn't). I've added it in just to be consistent, as we include the caps from that game in player totals (e.g. Warren Cummings is in the Scotland internationals cat, even though that was his only appearance). • Heads up (as i have seen the "deed" in Fran Mérida), don't know if you were the one to create said category (FC BARCELONA YOUTH PLAYERS), but two or three years ago its Real Madrid counterpart was removed, and i frankly don't see the use for such insertions, my humble two cents.

Cheers (please note, i did not remove anything in Mr. Mérida, just bringing this to your attention). --81.193.141.118 (talk) 23:43, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

Sincere apologies for the editorial run-in in the Herrero players of Sporting de Gijón, to engage in grammatical discussions ("namesake") with a native speaker of English does make me look rather silly :( And indeed "what brother?", you ask, make that double silly!

What I would really like to see altered is the external link of José Manuel García (footballer) (keeping the actual title of the article is what makes sense in my book), but don't worry I won't touch anything, a promise. Sorry again, and peace! --193.137.135.2 (talk) 09:17, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi,

Appreciate your comments on the amendments proposed by Stevefaescotland. I have now responded with my views which correspond with yours. As indicated I created this page and used the MOS style initially but as time went on the football box style now provides for a more informative platform to provide data to those football stat freaks like myself.

DYK for St Andrew's Cross, Glasgow

On 11 September 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article St Andrew's Cross, Glasgow, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that St Andrew's Cross in Glasgow is also known as Eglinton Toll, as it was the entry point to an inland dock for a canal established by Hugh Montgomerie, 12th Earl of Eglinton, in the early 19th century? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/St Andrew's Cross, Glasgow. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, St Andrew's Cross, Glasgow), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Sources needed for Days of the Year pages

The Days of Years (DOTY) pages were becoming a complete mess with incorrect and unverifiable info so things have changed so that all new entries require a direct source. The DOTY project had exempted themselves from verifiability. As a result, almost none of the pages had any sources to back things up, based on the naive (and against Wikipedia policy) belief that all entries would be backed by reliable sources in the linked article. It turns out that was not the case and the DOTY pages were filled with incorrect info and even worse, other places started believing the info there and publishing the incorrect info in newspapers, for example on "Today's date in history" type listings. So about a year and a half ago the DOTY project took the bold step of requiring that all new entries be backed by direct reliable sources. Several of us have gone through and started cleaning things up. May 11 is an example of where we want to be. For details see the content guideline, the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide or the edit notice on any DOY page. We could use your help in:

  1. Preventing new entries that don't include direct sources and when they occur, either supplement them with a reliable source or reverting them.
  2. Helping us clean up articles. The project members have asked all participants to go through their birthday and clean the entries up by adding reliable sources to each entry, or removing entries where reliable sources aren't readily available.

I hope this helps. Toddst1 (talk) 18:25, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for your response on my talk page but I think it's best to continue the discussion here.
I think your stated approach is more than unfortunate. Your unsourced edits on the DOTY pages will continue to be reverted on-sight. I did you the courtesy of cleaning up after you once, but now that you're aware of the change, continuing your stated intent to add unsourced entries will be considered bad-faith actions. Neither @Rlbarton: nor I are joking. You don't get to make up your own rules. Toddst1 (talk) 18:43, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
Indeed. Since we're all abiding by the rules, I have added the appropriate tag to all the other unsourced BLP entries... Crowsus (talk) 19:25, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
You've clearly made your WP:POINT[2]. Please stop. Toddst1 (talk) 00:41, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
Unfortunately, not enough Wikipedia editors are joining in with the effort to enable us to complete the work on individual dates quickly, and it would be appreciated if you would help to add references rather than dropping drive-by tags. If you were sincere about this, I would have expected you to have tagged them all rather than just a few. But it's a lot of work to deal with every entry, isn't it? Deb (talk) 08:32, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
Oh look, another editor taking the time to drop me message about sources, instead of using the time to add them to existing content, which would give weight to the demands for them to be appended to additional content. Actually no, its not that much work if there is a ref for the DOB in each target article, as there should be anyway, particularly for BLPs which is the most important category to get right, hence the reason for tagging those. If its a project you care that much about I'm sure you'll manage. Now we've all had our little passive aggressive outburst, let's move on, for the record I assure you I will have a ref for any content I add to DOTY articles in future. Hopefully next time I visit one, the content already present will also have references since it seems to be vitally important to some of you, but not important enough to address the issue yourselves in terms of what's already there - I can only go by what I observed for Nov 23, which was no sources whatsoever other than 1xNonRS for IMDB which was since removed, but not replaced. Maybe too many chiefs and not enough braves on the project, seems like you need more grafters to get it done and a fewer heroic veterans adding remarks on talk pages about how difficult and important it all is. Crowsus (talk) 09:19, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
Hopefully you'll get on and do some grafting then. Carry on like this and you could find yourself blocked PDQ. Deb (talk) 09:54, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
On what grounds would that be then? Not interested in the project but thanks anyway. Crowsus (talk) 10:48, 19 December 2019 (UTC)

Ways to improve North Junior Football League

Hello, Crowsus,

Thank you for creating North Junior Football League.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Even if they are reused sources, there should be sources for the champions of the league each year. It's probably just a quick fix, you probably found the list in a single source that would suffice.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Willsome429}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Association football positions shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. No problems, and no need to apologise at all. I've used questionable sources in good faith in my day, that were probably correct but not appropriate for Wikipedia (I used to use Football Manager for player stats!) GiantSnowman 07:43, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello. I'm guessing it would, but please could you confirm that the Litster ref does verify all the info you added along with it? and then I can incorporate bits into the prose with inline referencing. thanks, Struway2 (talk) 08:07, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

I think we've got there, but by a devious route. Your ScotlandsPeople search gives a James Edward Robertson, but I think you misread it: it has him dying in 1979 aged 70. Which is incompatible with the birth year of 1910 as per Joyce and Matthews. However... I looked him up on English National Football Archive (ENFA) and they list him born 1909 in Dundee, and died 1979, which is consistent with the primary sources, both deaths and births. So that's a considerably more recent source than either Joyce or Matthews, and definitely reliable. The good news is, there is no Jimmy Robertson (footballer, born 1909) (not with an existing article, anyway). I'll move him when I get a minute. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 10:56, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi. :-) I don't feel strongly about the content being left in or out but I think this is more about whether this level of detail is necessary or appropriate. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 16:29, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

I can definitely see your point, if you want to take it out please go ahead, my main thing was that the IP didn't explain their thinking at all, just took it out, all they needed to add was 'unnecessary' or similar and it would have had more traction. Crowsus (talk) 16:54, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

Rangers badge

Hi mate, hope all is well.

I was wondering if you could help out with the new badge of Rangers that has been uploaded. I've asked the original uploader but haven't heard back.

It needs a version uploaded without the blue border round it, just doesn't look right.

Also it needs a nfu rationale for the related Academy and women's FC pages.

Ralph McElhaney

Hi, I noted your "Citation needed" on Ralph McElhaney (Footballer). From what I have researched, Ralph was also known as Richard (or short name of Dick). His surname can also be written as McIlhinney/McElhinney/McIlhiney/McElhiney etc. For obvious reasons, names back in the 1860's through to the 1930's all seemed to have variants due to illiteracy and the way they were probably conveyed to clerks in the local record offices etc. A birth is recorded for a "Ralph McIlhenney" on 26 December 1870 in Anderston Glasgow. Parents; James and Mary Ann McLay. It is said (in written records that I have and online newspaper articles) that "Ralph" was from Kinning Park Glasgow. Anderston Glasgow is the otherside of the Clyde river in the City. The Census records from 1871 through to 1891 has Ralph as; McElhinney (1871)/McElhiney (1881)/McElhaney (1891)/McIlheany (1901)/McElhaney (1911). Many variants of the surname. Even different birth years. Ralph may well have lied about his age due to being a footballer. The younger you are the more likely you'd be signed. Especially back in the 1890s/1900s. I have now GONE BACK over my research and found that Ralph McIlhenney died aged 2 on 25 March 1873. Oh dear. So I thought..... but why is there a Ralph McElhaney still in the censuses for the same family and parents? Well, take a look at Scotland's People for a birth of a RALPH "MAWHINNEY" in 1874 (if you have access and pay for SP?). This is our Ralph McElhaney. The surname mis-transcribed. Same parents. Address.... Kinning Park Glasgow. Ralph was born on 17 March 1874. https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/view-image/nrs_stat_births/40978836?return_row=0 His death is correct (5 December 1930 in Romford Essex) as probate was paind to a Helen Elizabeth McElhaney, as is his marriage to Helen Elizabeth (nee Kerr) on 21 September 1903 in West Ham London. Any queries, please get in touch. Thebees1889 (talk) 16:30, 12 July 2020 (UTC)

Excuse me, but you added players without an exact information. Most of the players you've been added were below 100 appearances for Chelsea.
