About your site

Hey man, from night (in my local tme), the site isn't working. First it showed The site refuse to connect and now it's showing The site took too long to respond. Can you fix this 😓? Beraniladri19 🌀🌀 02:55, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Beraniladri19: Sorry about this. It seems like my server lost its connection to the internet around 11 hours ago, and I only noticed now. In technical terms, it forgot to bind to its IPv4 address that was directly connected to the internet. I've resolved the issue and the site is now available. Apologies for the disruption. @Beraniladri19: The website where the bulletins are taken from, https://www.metoc.navy.mil/jtwc/jtwc.html, has been inaccessible since July 29. Unless I can find another source for JTWC B-deck data, the archiver stays inactive. Chlod (top • contribs) 03:41, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Fizz fam. RedWarn team developer here. importScript is deprecated in accordance to phab:T95964. Its replacement, ResourceLoader, is utilized by {{lusc}} for userscript loads. Thus, we use {{subst:lusc|UserRedWarn/.js}} to load the script. Double check that you are not substituting the RedWarn script and instead substituting the lusc template to avoid issues. Unable to view the archived bullletin of PAGASA

Hey man, I can't see the archived bulletin of PAGASA. As I open of the archives it comes with this msg

The item is not available due to issues with the item's content.

Can you fix it ? Beraniladri19 🌀🌀 16:22, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Beraniladri19: The Internet Archive locked my account. I've sent them an email to try and get it back. In the meantime, you can refer to the temporary PAGASA archive for copies. They're volatile and get deleted after a month so don't use it under archive-url. Chlod (top • contribs) 16:27, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging pages for deletion

Hello, Chlod,

I was looking at your tagging of Draft:Tropical Depression Eighteen and noticed that you didn't post a notification on the talk page of the page creator. This is an important step of the deletion process, whether you are tagging pages for CSD, PROD or AFD/RFD/MFD/etc. Without a notice, the page creator has no idea what's going on with the page and if they are making a mistake, they need to be informed what it is so they don't repeat it.

If you use Twinkle to tag pages and set up your Preferences to "Notify page creator", then Twinkle will post these messages for you which makes things easy and convenient. Please do this in the future with any page you tag for deletion. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 00:35, 23 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: Ah, I apologize. I usually have Twinkle tag pages for deletion but I couldn't use a custom rationale with CSD G6 so I had to add in the tag manually and I forgot to notify the creator. Thank you for the reminder. Chlod (top • contribs) 00:38, 23 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Hey mate, is the site is working ? Because I didn't find the 26th bulletin of Typhoon Mindulle (both warning and prog) Beraniladri19 🌀🌀 07:45, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Beraniladri19: There's a bit of a delay since it archives in 10-minute intervals, and sometimes the archiving fails due to the JTWC's terrible networking. It can take a few tries for a bulletin to be archived, so just wait for it to pop out. Chlod (top • contribs) 07:49, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Chlod: Another question, do you face problem while opening JTWC's official site, because whenever I try to access, it shows this message

Maring-Nando situation

I will now agree you. However, if that is the case the second TD should be placed in the OS section. Since we follow the RSMC, which is the JMA, Nando is Kompasu and not the second TD. Typhoon2013 (talk) 02:02, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Trailukya (13:23, 15 October 2021)

Hi Chlod,

I am new to edits in wikipedia. After drafting in sandbox how can I move the article to Wikipedia live? Please suggest. --Trailukya (talk) 13:23, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Trailukya! For newer editors, it's suggested that you submit the article for review first by placing {{subst:submit}} at the very top of your sandbox. An experienced editor will come by and check the article out before publishing it. Chlod (top • contribs) 13:31, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, how can i create a new profile/article for my Company i work? --Kemal Sharif (talk) 08:08, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Undisclosed paid editing on Wikipedia is a violation of the Terms of Use. As such, first and foremost you must disclose your relation to that company. Second, editors with a conflict of interest are highly discouraged from editing directly on the article space, so this page must be made in draftspace. Lastly, before making a draft, you need to ensure that this company is notable. Otherwise, any draft relating to it that gets submitted for review will immediately be declined. hi again, im having trouble publishing my page, its currently in my sandbox. --Ifecenticpolity (talk) 00:08, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Ifecenticpolity! Your sandbox seems to be missing a {{user draft}} template, so you'll need to place one at the very top of the page. After saving, you'll see a "Submit your draft for review!" button on the page. Click that, and then follow the instructions given to you. Happy editing, and welcome to Wikipedia! Question from Ifecenticpolity (01:27, 10 November 2021)

Hi, Chlod i was having trouble finding where to respond, thanks for the help for my page. yes, you are correct File:Anceint Ife pavement.png isnt mine, i was rushing a bit, I am curious on how to use copyrighted images in my page. also the text is all my writing. --Ifecenticpolity (talk) 01:27, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ifecenticpolity: Ah, sorry for not responding quickly! There's a process on Wikipedia for using copyrighted images as long as there is no other freely-licensed image that can be used or created. If we can't find a way to create a freely-licensed image, you can use an image under a non-free use rationale. The problem with this is that non-free images should be used as little as possible, meaning we can only keep a few (maybe even just one) of the images on the draft you made (unless we attempt to create freely-licensed replacements for some of them, such as the maps). I'm not that skilled when it comes to filing a non-free use rationale (and copyrighted images in general), so I'll bring Sennecaster here to answer any questions you might have. Chlod (top • contribs) 01:43, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ok, thanks for all the help, do you think i could keep at least two of the copyrighted images on my page? --Ifecenticpolity (talk) 23:10, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) Hi @Ifecenticpolity! I am afraid not; we have a policy that prohibits copyrighted images on anywhere but a mainspace article. If it gets accepted to mainspace, the images can be placed in the article. If you need help with the non-free image rationales, I am more than happy to assist :) Sennecaster (Chat) 03:10, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
what is a mainspace article? --Ifecenticpolity (talk) 02:04, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ifecenticpolity: Mainspace refers to the namespace where all articles are located. This differs from userspace (where all page titles begin with "User:") and draftspace (where all page titles begin with "Draft:"). For example: User:Ifecenticpolity/sandbox is in the userspace (it begins with "User:"), Marshmallow is in mainspace. Chlod (top • contribs) 06:15, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My suggestion would be to temporarily remove all images for now, and then add the images once the page has been published. You can submit the page for publication by clicking on the Submit your draft for review! button on the top of the page, as mentioned earlier. I am just alerting editors who worked on the "Tropical Storm Nyatoh" entry on the 2021 Pacific typhoon season that I began a draft of the tropical storm. If it becomes notable enough for mainspace, we can move it, if not, we can delete it. Elijahandskip (talk) 04:46, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've handled thousands of requests at this point, and have a pretty good handle on how they'll be handled if another patroller handles them, and a straight url is almost always going to be closed with the x to y template by the first patroller that sees it. I don't have an issue adjusting on what some users see as edge cases, but as I mentioned on the talk page that is the general consensus for handling them.

Also, thanks for your work on redwarn, it's a great tool that I make significant use of. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 01:46, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Chlod, please take this barnstar. Your personal health issues must get in the way of your work and yet, you're often swiftly dealing with unhelpful edit requests at Talk:Absolute pitch. Question from Suzie-Ann Bakker from the World Duchenne Organization (13:40, 7 January 2022)

Hi there! Quite new and very overwhelmed to the Wiki community :). In my sandbox I'm trying to write an article about the World Duchenne Organization, a global umbrella organization for rare diseases Duchenne and Becker MD. I now realise that there's a huge COI. I've declared my COI at the top of the page but I'm not sure if that is sufficient - would it be possible for you to take a look? Warm wishes, Suzie-Ann Bakker --Suzie-Ann Bakker from the World Duchenne Organization (talk) 13:40, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Suzie-Ann Bakker! Just two things with the declaration: it has to be on the talk page and not the actual page itself (feel free to create this page since it doesn't exist yet), and you'll need to remove the <kbd><nowiki> and corresponding </nowiki></kbd> tags at the start and end of the notice (this can be done in the source editor instead of the visual editor, you can switch by clicking the pencil icon on the top right of the editor, next to the "Publish Changes" button). I've noticed that the U1-client and U1-otherlinks parameters are also malformed, so please fill these in with the relevant information as well. In addition, please add {{paid|employer=World Duchenne Organization}} to your user page for an easily-found declaration. Feel free to reply here if any of those steps confuse you. Thanks, and welcome to Wikipedia! Chlod (top • contribs) 19:42, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Chlod this is incredibly helpful! --Suzie-Ann Bakker from the World Duchenne Organization (talk) 12:30, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Help needed

Hey Chlod, long time no see ! I just wanna ask, can you fix this problem ? I tried fixing here but didn't solve anything. Beraniladri19 🌀🌀 03:51, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Beraniladri19! Hope you've had a good holiday season. The infobox relies on a lot of templates, hence the problems. Template:Tropical cyclone status icons is one that I think you can fix now (by doing the same thing you did in the diff you linked) and that will fix the "TD" at the box's upper right section. A little bit more complicated, however, is Module:Tropical cyclone categories which controls the color. I'll modify the module to include the new colors after lunch (perhaps in two hours). Hi!! Sorry i'm still new to this Wikipedia thing, i only made scattered fixes every now and then, although i'm more interested now in fixing petty grammatical mistakes, also what's this "mentor" thing? --Cake983 (talk) 11:14, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cake983, and welcome to Wikipedia! Mentors are automatically assigned to new users in an effort to increase editor retention. Mentors are also volunteers and editors like you here on Wikipedia. Thank you for taking the time to help improve Wikipedia! It's very exciting to see new faces. I've left a note on your talk page containing links to pages we have that provide more details on Wikipedia's processes, in case you want to learn more. In addition, I suggest taking a look at our Wikipedia:Typo Team and the backlog of pages with potential typos in case you're interested in fixing even more typos. Hi, Lenticel! Since the bot runs automatically (daily at 00:00 UTC), there's no manual refresh for it. From checking the bot logs, however, it turns out the maintenance I performed last February 1 had caused the bot to stop updating the page. I've fixed the problem and it's now updating again. Request for Mentorship

Hello Chlod,

I found you in the list from the Wikipedia:Growth Team features/Mentor list which I went through completely and chosen you mostly by your tech affinity. I'm specialized in IT topics and work in favor of civil rights and privacy as you can see as part of my self-introduction on my user page. Now I'm looking for a mentor to have a starting point here in the community. ARoseWolf is sadly not technical and thus I would flood her with IT topics.

Are you available for mentorship? Are you by chance available on IRC?

Greets GavriilaDmitriev (talk) 10:09, 14 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, @GavriilaDmitriev! I'm always assigned mentees at random, so I'm definitely available for mentorship. I've went ahead and claimed you through the mentorship module, per your request. I am, indeed on IRC as chlod with the hostmask chlod@wikipedia/chlod on the Libera network, although I'm not as active on IRC as I am on Discord, so I only check it infrequently (and unfortunately I don't get mobile notifications for pings). Either way, let me know if you have any general questions about Wikipedia at any time onwiki or on IRC! I'll try to reply as soon as possible. WP:AFC Helper News

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Cheers, Primefac, via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 15:59, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Chlod,

This page showed up on our page for broken redirects so it was deleted. Let me know if you would like it restored so that you can correct where you wanted the page to point to or it can stay deleted if you prefer that. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 20:39, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Liz! I initially didn't mind but after a bit of coding I realized that I actually needed some past revisions of the sandbox which contained tests that I had for CopiedTemplateEditor. Please restore the page whenever possible, and I'll blank it to avoid showing up on the broken redirect tracking page. Thanks! Chlod (top • contribs) 13:31, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Doug Weller: Thanks for telling me about this. From reading the AfD and the ANI discussion, it seems like there's been a misunderstanding regarding GavriilaDmitriev's comments on the discussion, and I understand how easy it would have been to misunderstand since English is not their strong suit. I've made my comments on the ANI discussion, feel free to respond there. Thanks! Chlod (top • contribs) 13:12, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Rsjaffe: Thank you both for dealing with the matter peacefully. @GavriilaDmitriev: TNT can sometimes blow up a bit more than you expect. As software vulnerabilities are important enough to add into the article, see if you can restore the content back into the article after the AfD closes (if the article still exists, of course). Dear Mentor, I found Wikipedia:WikiProject_JavaScript and saw that the last notable activity was 2 years ago at around December 2020. Given that you seem to be a member of there I wanted to ask you if it is justified that I set this community to inactive. I'm actually interested in this WikiProject myself and see potential in this topic. But given that I'm already putting my efforts into WP:FOSS I don't have the capacity to try to revive that community. GavriilaDmitriev (talk • they/them) 05:40, 26 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@GavriilaDmitriev: Although WPJS isn't the most invested in writing articles, another sector of WPJS, primarily the group of users who work on user scripts, is still highly active. As always, anyone who wishes to ask a question can do so in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject JavaScript, however most of the users developing userscripts recommend using Wikipedia:User scripts/Requests instead (which is still under the scope of WPJS). Want some suggestion

Hey mate, can you suggest any archiving sites other archive.ph and web.archive.org. For some reason "archive.ph" takes infinite time in archiving a link. This is the reason why, I used only web.archive.org, but I ceased using after I got involved in the SWIO basin. But when I resumed using it, the website became so unstable. They can't archive a single link. Some archived link just collapse and throw this message: - Sorry, Job failed or Internal server error. Without these website, I can't get my work done. Can please suggest any archiving sites other archive.ph and web.archive.org ? Beraniladri19 🌀🌀 15:22, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Beraniladri19! Help:Archiving a source and Wikipedia:List of web archives on Wikipedia might contain a few webpage archivers that work with the sources you use. If the source you're archiving is released under a Creative Commons license or under the public domain (e.g. advisories from the NWS, JTWC, or PAGASA), you can also download those files and upload them as a collection on the Internet Archive. Articles generally require significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the topic. If your company does not meet our notability criteria, it will not be allowed an article. JavaScript question

Hi, I was wondering if I could ask for your help with a JavaScript question? —Lights and freedom (talk ~ contribs) 01:23, 6 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Lights and freedom: If it's related to Wikipedia, then sure. Otherwise, Stack Overflow might be a better place to ask. Chlod (top • contribs) 01:25, 6 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I'm trying to get a script that will highlight particular words. I asked at the help desk and got a response from WelpThatWorked. I then added it to my common.js. It didn't work. I then added "var" before the first appearance of "words" and "wordREX" but it still doesn't work. Do you have any idea what's wrong? —Lights and freedom (talk ~ contribs) 01:28, 6 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Lights and freedom: That's more of a quirk to do with how common.js is loaded. As of now, common.js (be it user or global) and gadget JS files do not support anything that isn't ES5 syntax. The related Phabricator task for this is phab:T75714. You can move the code to another file and import it using importScript or {{lusc}} (which allows ES6+ code), or reformat the code to allow it in your common.js by converting it to ES5-compatible syntax. I've done exactly that for you, so all you have to do now is place the following in your common.js:
var words = [ "California", "Alameda", "city" ];
words.forEach( function (word) {
    var wordRex = new RegExp(word, 'g');
    $("body").children().each( function() {

Problem with CV template change

Something must be wrong because there are hundreds of articles now in Category:Articles with invalid date parameter in template. MB 05:28, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@MB: The appropriate dated categories did not exist at the time of editing as {{cv-unsure}} has not been categorizing this entire time. AnomieBOT has created the dated categories already, so all that has to be done now is to null edit the pages in that category, as described in its documentation page:
"If the date is correctly formatted the article may still appear here. This can happen for three reasons, two common: The appropriate dated category; ... did not exist at the last save - solve this by re-saving the article, either with a null edit, or any improvement you can make."
I can do a run that updates all those pages in a short while; I'm still in class so I can't do it immediately. Chlod (top • contribs) 05:56, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I thought this was a problem with the data format. It the date is correct, the page is usually just in the right REDLINK category until AnomieBOT creates it. But I do see that purging is fixing everything now. Thanks. MB 06:05, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MB: All clear now. Chlod (top • contribs) 06:41, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Would you want to help with a draft

Hey Chlod! A few months ago, I started the Draft:List of F4 and EF4 tornadoes, which has turned into a huge project. Myself and 9 other editors have worked on it and we probably are about 15% of the way done. I wanted to ask if you would want to help work on the draft? I have asked a few other others who work with weather-related articles, and I posted a message to WP:Weather's talk page back when the draft first started, but that was since archived, so now I have just been asking editors to see if they would want/could help with the draft. It's a huge project, but one that will be extremely beneficial in the end. Elijahandskip (talk) 15:19, 4 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, @Elijahandskip! I appreciate the invitation, but I'm currently too busy with academics to be working on writing. I've actually been leaving the writing for the 2022 PTS (and its sub-articles) to other editors in the meantime for this exact reason. Chlod (top • contribs) 15:25, 4 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Question from TrueCryptonian (22:49, 9 September 2022)

Hey Chlod, I basically just started and as my name suggests, I know my way with most things crypto very well.

First article that I edited to correct something got edited right back by a guy, who is making false statements. Can a higher authority clarify for this guy that he is wrong? Or somehow restrict him from spreading false information? --TrueCryptonian (talk) 22:49, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
