May 2022[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Clarence Lee Evans, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. CollectiveSolidarity (talk) 20:02, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
@CollectiveSolidarity:, I see you reverted this edit stating “No categories in a redirect”. But take a look at Wikipedia:Redirect stating in the intro section “Redirect pages can contain other content below the redirect, such as redirect category templates, and category links (which provide a way to list article sections in categories).” 82.174.61.58 (talk) 20:10, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I guess you’re right because WP:Categorization does state “Every Wikipedia page should belong to at least one category, except for talk pages, redirects, and user pages, which may optionally be placed in categories where appropriate.” Go ahead then, but I’d link the redirect to the namesake section of the article so readers might not be confused with the inclusion of a ship in “1942 deaths”. Also, I highly recommend that you get an account eventually. It could help with giving you access to protected pages and the like. Cheers! CollectiveSolidarity (talk) 20:52, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@CollectiveSolidarity: thanks for your reply. For now I’m fine working under an IP, but yes, I’m thinking of getting back to an account but not now yet. 82.174.61.58 (talk) 21:07, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, they can link towards categories, but it's not customary for redirects to have categories of their own. Only in exceptional cases. The reason for this is if you're redirecting from X to Y and you'd put X into cat A, why not put Y into cat A instead? Amadeus22 🙋 🔔 20:53, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

UTC)

@Amadeus1999: I think this is one of this exceptional cases. The redirect page is of a person (for instance in category born 1904) that links to a ship that is named after that person àmd the person’s bio is described on the page of the ship. To add the category “1904 births” to the ship page in not correct. 82.174.61.58 (talk) 21:11, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it would certainly be a sight to see a ship give birth. If what you say is true, we should make a page for the person on its own and make a disambiguation somewhere down the line. If the person meets the requirements for eligibility anyway, like notability and such Amadeus22 🙋 🔔 16:48, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

April 2024[edit]

Information icon Please do not use styles that are nonstandard, unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles, as you did in Rob Kaman. There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Thank you. Adakiko (talk) 07:15, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Adakiko: I changed it per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section#Alternative biographical names stating “If a hypocorism (diminutive) that is common in English is often used for the subject in lieu of a given name, it is not inserted into the name or given after it” 82.174.61.58 (talk) 07:25, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
      • @Adakiko: Because you don't reply here and also not on your talk page; and because I think my edit is an improvement of the Manual of Style, I reverted your edit. As it is no vandalism the edit I made on 1 April (and anyway done in good faith) I'm also thinking of removing your vandalism warning. 08:35, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to Template:1905 shipwrecks, you may be blocked from editing. Adakiko (talk) 07:18, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at 2024 Lake Suviana explosion. Borgenland (talk) 16:32, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

To be specific, you wrecked a whole article about an explosion and unilaterally turned it into a contradictory mess that has nothing to do with the title based on your POV proposal that no one has agreed with, forcing editors to conduct a massive cleanup of your mess when you could have made a separate article. If I catch you trying to tamper this article into something completely different again, I will have no choice but to report you to ANI. Borgenland (talk) 16:36, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: Borgenland later stated (see Talk:2024 Lake Suviana explosion): "My apologies. At the time I was shocked when I first saw the extent that the article had been drastically altered and suspected vandalism. ...". 82.174.61.58 (talk) 09:23, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. @Lachielmao: Could you perhaps explain a little more about what is wrong with these edits you reverted? What is in this case according to you wrong with the style? 82.174.61.58 (talk) 09:27, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Consistent grammatical errors throughout, references to information that is clearly visible elsewhere in the article other issues including removal of sources with no explanation, you made this article a mess. Lachielmao (talk) 09:32, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Lachielmao: Might you reconsider your decision? You say what I did wrong "references to information that is clearly visible elsewhere". I referenced information I added myself. The content might be seen as controversial so better to have it well referenced (for example in the infobox). You also stated that I removed sources. That is not correct, I actually added an additional source. 82.174.61.58 (talk) 09:46, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment on sockpuppetry[edit]

Assuming you are Sander.v.Ginkel, it seems likely you are to be re-blocked per Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Sander.v.Ginkel. You seem to be a good writer and I've often been upset coming across your name since I realize what a good writer we've lost. I wasn't here then, and I'm not sure what exactly caused it, but it seems it was over six years ago you were banned. That is a long time. As difficult as it may sound, may I suggest you go six months without any more socking, and then request the standard offer? I think there is a good chance it would be accepted (see e.g. Tamzin's comment here: I was torn on this. The IP does not seem to be creating the sort of low-quality BLP stubs that SportsOlympic was. If this were "just" a case of block evasion, I'm not sure I could justify a block of the IP as preventative of any disruption, and would be inclined to either ignore it or block but offer a non-OFFER unblock to the main account. However, Sander.v.Ginkel is banned ... Evading a ban is an inherent harm, as it undercuts the community's ability to self-govern ... I thus feel I would be defying the mandate the community has given me as an admin if I did anything but block here ... FWIW, Sander, I could see myself supporting an OFFER unban down the line). I want to see you back here eventually (even if you have no idea who I am), but if you continue socking that will never be able to happen. Feel free to email me if you like. BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:03, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@BeanieFan11, Although I revived the sock investigation (out of procedural responsibility), I second everything you said. I wish they'd follow all the procedures and will be given a pass. @Sander.v.Ginkel, please take whatever conditional offer the admins will give you and come clean. That'd mean a clearer and more sustainable path for everyone. You won't lose your hours, we'd also get more articles, and refrain from wasting time catching one more of the "rule breakers." Let's build this encyclopedia together. What's the point of losing your work again and again? We'd want to see you formally appealing and abiding by the offer/conditions the admins will give you. Take care. X (talk) 19:55, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
