You are exceptionally immature

Your reaction to my question to Grey13z is childish and immature. And if you think that simple questions are “rude” than your better off hiding inside a closet, because you seemingly can’t handle directness … 2A02:A44C:6682:1:38CA:71B5:D253:415D (talk) 09:41, 17 January 2023 (UTC)

That should have read "then", not "than"? Questioning the use of a colour because of gender is ridiculous. Buzz off. Robby.is.on (talk) 09:43, 17 January 2023 (UTC)

Good morning to you!

I see i have already been reverted, no worries. But to add link after link after link to the given section is OK? I thought we were not encouraged to do that per WP:ELNO; since i did not want to make the fellow user feel like he worked for nothing, i relocated the links as refs in charts (some also in box, for full name or height), with the exception of Soccerway which is already there in 99,9999999% of the cases.

If you could "enlighten" me on the subject i'd really appreciate it. Attentively RevampedEditor (talk) 10:14, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi! You are right about WP:ELNO. It's good to be considerate of other editors' feelings. But in this case, I think rather than turning redundant external links into redundant inline citations it would be better to remove the unnecessary links and write Zyxw a friendly explanatory message on their Talk page.
Also, by posting a message on their Talk page instead of explaining in an edit summary, there's a higher chance they'll notice your objections and change their editing behaviour going forward. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 10:24, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

@Zyxw: Please read this message. Continue the good work, happy 2023 (same for Robby of course) and sorry for any inconvenience. --RevampedEditor (talk) 10:29, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

Stefan Brzózka

Stefan Brzózka died on January 7, 2023, not on the 9th. I tried to correct the date twice, and you twice reverted my changes. There is no reference i can offer, other than sending you my father's death certificate. I'm guessing the date of Jan 9 was used because the press announcement was published on the 9th, two days after his death.

Just to point something out - you will also not be able to present a reference pointing to the 9th as his date of death... 209.122.42.215 (talk) 11:52, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for reaching out. I have removed the exact date as indeed no reference seems to explicitly state the exact date. Is there any chance you could get a reliable source, for example a newspaper, to publish the correct date? Per one of Wikipedia's core policies, Wikipedia:Verifiability, our readers need to be able to verify article content through reliable sources. Robby.is.on (talk) 16:12, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

I'd had a look at this page as to any hints as to include clean sheets for goalkeepers (and obviously we don't). I then noticed somehow there was two References sections, the first one contained all the example ref tags, the other one empty. Checking the edit history, there's this edit and also found this discussion too. I probably take that as a mistaken addition of a new References section which I have removed because that didn't follow the standard layout of football players on our Wikipedia. Not sure why that stayed there for five months though. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 23:04, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

Thanks, @Iggy the Swan:. Good catch. Robby.is.on (talk) 23:06, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
Hopefully everyone else who watches that particular page is happy with that as well, as I have seen reverts per the page history. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 09:34, 21 January 2023 (UTC)

Period?

Hello, is MOS to be applied here? "After completing the only unbeaten Premier League season, a unique gold trophy was commissioned to Arsenal?"

And here? "Giacomo Puccini, Italian composer whose operas, including La bohème, Tosca, Madama Butterfly and Turandot, are among the most frequently worldwide performed in the standard repertoire" 5.91.20.246 (talk) 13:56, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

Full stops for both as those are complete sentences. See MOS:CAPFRAG, specifically the bullet point starting with "Most captions are not complete sentences". Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 14:24, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
And "Leonardian Museum of Vinci, which houses a large collection of models constructed on the basis of Leonardo's drawings"? And "Flag of the Cispadane Republic, which was the first Italian tricolour adopted by a sovereign Italian state (1797)"?
"Which", in theory is not a complete sentence. Thanks so much. 5.91.16.102 (talk) 16:21, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
Correct. I would consider neither of those complete sentences. Robby.is.on (talk) 17:02, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
However it is also true that there is the verb "was" and they can be considered complete sentences. 5.91.16.102 (talk) 17:07, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
Yes, but the verb is in a relative clause. If I'm not mistaken that still leaves the sentence incomplete. Robby.is.on (talk) 18:38, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

Trolling? I should report them.

@Robby.is.on, I'm not familiar with you as an editor, but I believe you might have gleaned a sense of how the conversation at User talk:FMSky was going. Passive aggressive teenage behavior in the form of WP:IDHT and "go prove it to me; I can't read edit summaries."

If I wanted a teenager in my life, I'd have acquired a baby 15 years ago. Trolling? They clearly edit as a solitary amusement for big numbers (130,000 edits in 2 years). Wikipedia needs its human bots, but even human bots require an operator, which seems to be missing from the picture here. What say you? Quisqualis (talk) 21:40, 7 February 2023 (UTC)

@Quisqualis: I'm not taking sides in this conflict, I haven't looked into it. What I'm saying is it doesn't make anything better to slap a welcome template on the Talk of an experienced editor – WP:DTTR. It does nothing to resolve the conflict but rather escalates it. Robby.is.on (talk) 21:46, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
One hopes the link to the five pillars suffices at this somewhat late stage.-- Quisqualis (talk) 22:00, 7 February 2023 (UTC)

Setanta records

Would love to know your criteria for listing bands on Setanta Records ? 86.45.114.223 (talk) 06:58, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi. While I appear to be last person to have edited Setanta Records, making cosmetic changes, I was not involved with the listing of bands there. Generally speaking, bands that are notable should be listed. It's safe to list bands that have a Wikipedia article. You can have a look at the notability guidelines for topics related to music at Wikipedia:Notability (music). Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 12:05, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

Hello Robby.is.on,

You recently offered a statement in a request for arbitration. The Arbitration Committee has accepted that request for arbitration and an arbitration case has been opened at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/World War II and the history of Jews in Poland. Evidence that you wish the arbitrators to consider should be added to the evidence subpage, at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/World War II and the history of Jews in Poland/Evidence. Please add your evidence by April 04, 2023, which is when the first evidence phase closes. Submitted evidence will be summarized by Arbitrators and Clerks at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/World War II and the history of Jews in Poland/Evidence/Summary. Owing to the summary style, editors are encouraged to submit evidence in small chunks sooner rather than more complete evidence later.

Details about the summary page, the two phases of evidence, a timeline and other answers to frequently asked questions can be found at the case's FAQ page.

For a guide to the arbitration process, see Wikipedia:Arbitration/Guide to arbitration.

For the Arbitration Committee,

German football - Hamburg-Eimsbütteler Ballspiel-Club

I tried to complete some of the citation templates for the article on Hamburg-Eimsbütteler Ballspiel-Club.[2] One of the citations was to [page 7 of the Harburger Anzeigen und Nachrichten, 18 December 1933. I think the article being referenced was the one titled Doch mit des Geschickes Mächten, please could you check (and correct if necessary). -- Toddy1 (talk) 12:41, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Toddy1:. Do you want me to check whether you read the title correctly (you did!) or whether the article with that title backs the claim "During these years, they were mostly in the second division of the Fußball-Bezirksklasse Groß-Hamburg (Football district class Greater Hamburg)."? If it's latter, it does not seem to.
The mentions of "Eimsbüttel" I can spot are: 1. a 5–1 win for Eimsbüttel against Altona 93 in the Gau-Liga, 2. a 4–2 loss of "West-Eimsbüttel" against Wacker and 3. H.E.B.C. winning 7–3 against Borussia. In the paragraph about the 7–3 win the article states: "Andere 'hochgestellte Vereine' haben schon die Gefährlichkeit dieser Mannschaft in Kauf nehmen müssen". But on all of page 7, I cannot find anything about HEBC's league affiliation over multiple years. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 13:26, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for checking this. I have raised the issue of what exactly the citation supports on the article talk page.-- Toddy1 (talk) 14:17, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

Jeffrey Burton Russell and DMY dates

I see that you changed the Jeffrey Burton Russell article to consistently use DMY dates. However, he was American, so wouldn't MOS:DATETIES suggest MDY dates instead? (Also, you seem to have introduced a typo in the short description; that's minor, of course.) — BarrelProof (talk) 16:23, 29 May 2023 (UTC)

I used the script to make date formatting consistent. At the time, most of the dates in the article were in the DMY format so I went with that per MOS:DATERET. (Also, you seem to have introduced a typo in the short description; that's minor, of course.) Yes, like most people, I make the occasional mistake when editing. ;-) I just edited the short description as I originally intended to. Thanks, Robby.is.on (talk) 21:38, 30 May 2023 (UTC)

Florence Chenoweth

re your removal of excessive overlinks, the MOS does not say the countries should not be linked, only that larger countries should not be linked. Thus I agree with the removal of the link to the United States and, possibly, South Africa, but can most readers be expected to know anything about Liberia or The Gambia?Roundtheworld (talk) 19:47, 28 June 2023 (UTC)

I understand that. The MOS also states: "A good question to ask yourself is whether reading the article you're about to link to would help someone understand the article you are linking from". I don't think the country links are "particularly relevant to the context in the article". Robby.is.on (talk) 20:55, 28 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi Inthefirstplace. What are you responding to? Robby.is.on (talk) 08:29, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
You say captions should be short, I suppose pithy. This is contrary to the whole of the site. Inthefirstplace (talk) 22:59, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
The guideline on captions, MOS:CAPTION, which I refer to in my edit summaries, states that they "should be succinct". I think it makes sense to include locations or other relevant information when images show things that need an explanation, where the reader wonders what they are seeing. Wrong warning

Per this: Unfortunately there is neither a warning nor block-message template specifically for removing sourced content (unless you want to use {{uw-delete}} and {{uw-dblock}}, which are about deletion in general, and frankly maybe I should have used). At the blocking page, the menu of templated messages has one for "persistent addition of unsourced content" but not "persistent unexplained removal of reliably sourced content", one that only comes up under "other" for me because I've used it so much. Daniel Case (talk) 11:58, 23 August 2023 (UTC)

Hello, the goalkeeper Jurandir Correia do Santos was São Paulo FC player during 1934–1935, according to the club encyclopedia registers. The edit I made may have looked like some kind of vandalism, but that's correct. I added the source at this time. Svartner (talk) 09:43, 29 August 2023 (UTC)

pseudo-headings

Hi, I wanted to thank you for this. It never fails to amaze me how many guidelines are hidden in the manual of style. One might hope that exceptions to MOS:BOLD would be referenced in that section, but this is not the first surprise like this that I've had. ~TPW 13:23, 21 September 2023 (UTC)

I took a closer look at MOS:PSEUDOHEAD, and found it a bit confusing. I did leave a question about that on the talk there about it generally, because the text appears to contradict the example. However, assuming the example is what should be used, it shows a pseudo-heading beneath a sub-section heading (or level 3), while the template you shared with me (Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Players) uses bold to create pseudo-headings after section headings (level 2). To your understanding, is that based on consensus about how to apply MOS:PSEUDOHEAD in general, or was it based on discussion among members of the wikiproject? Now that I've discovered a guideline that is new to me, I'm eager to apply it consistently. Thanks advance for your help in understanding how it works. ~TPW 13:39, 21 September 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind message, @True Pagan Warrior:. To your understanding, is that based on consensus about how to apply MOS:PSEUDOHEAD in general, or was it based on discussion among members of the wikiproject? For footballers who have collected honours both as players and and as managers we do use level 3 headings; here's an example: Carlo Ancelotti#Honours. Does that clear things up? Robby.is.on (talk) 21:01, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
Well, at Inca (footballer) they are used after level 2 headings. Any sense as to why? ~TPW 13:36, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
Inca has no managerial honours so no differentiation needs to be made between player and managerial honours. For consistency across articles, bold formatting is used whether or not the subject has both player and managerial honours. Robby.is.on (talk) 13:58, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

Greetings from Bosnia

Hi Robby,

I saw you removed full names from several Balkan players, and I feel obliged to inform you that we only have one name and one last name, unlike Spanish people for example, who add their maternal name and get two last names in the full name. So, the name of the article is the players’ full name, no exception. Would you stop removing it, please? Looking forward to your response! 109.175.39.117 (talk) 10:12, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi. I feel obliged to inform you that we only have one name and one last name Thanks, I didn't know that. So, the name of the article is the players’ full name, no exception. I have found that at least Albanian and Bulgarian naming does not follow that rule; see Lorik Cana, Altin Lala, Elseid Hysaj, Stiliyan Petrov, Borislav Mihaylov, Hristo Bonev.
Would you stop removing it, please? As with other content, full names need to come with a reference for WP:verifiability. You will find that the articles of top players from the Balkans such as Luka Modrić, Davor Šuker, Edin Džeko, Miralem Pjanić, Branislav Ivanović, Dejan Stanković all have inline citations supporting their full names. I will continue to remove unsourced full names. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 14:54, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

I don’t really get why, since there’s nothing else other than one first and one last name, but okay. There is no other option for a full name other than this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.163.172.251 (talk) 15:04, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

Jeremy Doku

As said in the undo on the Jeremy Doku page, I really struggle to understand a reason why adding a short sentence on the player's profile and nickname bothers you so much. It is absolutely relevant and there is nothing controversial or inaccurate about it; the sources demonstrate the veracity of the statement. Why would you want for the description to be less informative? Somewhere I read "hes not high profile enough"; how can you decide this, and how can this be the basis even for whether there is or isn't a description which is true? This is a player that plays regularly in attack for the European champions and was bought for 65 million euros. The not high profile argument doesn't hold. Please stop changing that part. Hallo. Wer bist du den? Fresh: Florian David alyga.lt In this evening he played 27th match in 2023 A Lyga. Regards. -- Makenzis (talk) 22:06, 25 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Makenzis:, thanks for reaching out. Looks like his Soccerway profile hasn't been updated for Kauno Žalgiris' match against Panevėžys.
Going forward, I think an WP:edit summary would help with avoiding misunderstanding, for example if you mentioned something like "Appearance against Panevėžys" or "Per alyga.lt website". Remember that content on Wikipedia needs to be verifiable. When I saw your change, I noticed that you hadn't updated the timestamp and then checked the Soccerway reference to verify the number of appearances. @Senzighi: Hi, thanks for reaching out. No, I'm afraid your are not correct. Your numbers – 49 appearances, 47 appearances – include appearances and goals from all competitions in the 1996–97 season. But in footballer infoboxes we only count league appearances and goals. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 10:19, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

Eintracht and Anthony Yeboah

Who is »people«? Some guys claiming the opposite and As to your response concerning the club, English media alone are not relevant, because they are a) not the only English-speaking outlets, b) if it’s incorrect, their practice cannot be considered anyway. The short form of the club is Eintracht, which is evident from the official website as well -- FSV Frankfurt is a different club playing in the fourth tier.[4] Your claim isn’t true either, Eintracht [5], Reuters [6], Supersport [7], City of Frankfurt [8] and the BBC, lo and behold: »Aberdeen take Eintracht scalp«[9].

No worries though, Wikipedia has long been a cess pool because of the topic hijacking and self-proclaimed gate keeping, enjoy your little sandbox and article tailoring. -esse quam videri - to be rather than to seem (talk) 15:57, 17 December 2023 (UTC)

@Herr chagall: Thanks for reaching out. Who is »people«? Some guys claiming the opposite Your page move was reverted which suggests it hasn't gained consensus. Changing links in other articles despite that is disruptive.
By "English media" I did mean English language articles. Here are some counterexamples with "Frankfurt" instead of "Eintracht" which were among the top results when searching for coverage of the club: BBC, Bundesliga English, Deutsche Welle English. So the name usage is not clear cut. FSV Frankfurt is a different club playing in the fourth tier. I know and it's a valid point. WP:KARLSRUHER states "in article prose, a shortened name can be used, once the proper name has been established, to make the text flow more easily." but also "If you do insist on using one-word names, or town names, please check that it's appropriate, and that no other club uses that name. For example, there is another Hertha, another Stuttgart, another Frankfurt, another Köln and even another Bayern." For that reason, I have self-reverted to "Eintracht" at Jay-Jay Okocha.
Wikipedia has long been a cess pool because of the topic hijacking and self-proclaimed gate keeping, enjoy your little sandbox and article tailoring. No need to get feisty because someone disagrees with your changes. Disagreements and reverts happen all the time. This does not necessarily mean people are acting in bad faith. I was not. Page deleted restoration (and apology)

I apologize for initially posting this in the wrong place. I did read User:Ronhjones/DeletedPROD, which is why I posted in User:Ronhjones, as it said to "leave a short note". Since I saw what looked like more recent topics, I assumed that was okay. Again, my apologies.

I'd like to contest the deletion of the following page, as it was definitely not written by herself or her publicist. Can the full page still be restored? I see the history does not go back far enough to when the old/full article/content was present.

I also read in User:Ronhjones/DeletedPROD that it can be restored as a Draft article in the WP:AfC system, for improvement, review and hopefully approval, but I do not have the original contents, so I would be unable to write it from scratch -- plus, I do not want to be the one creating or even editing it.

If there is somewhere else I should post about this, my apologies, just please point me in the right direction.

Thank you.

It's an LTA but...

...on closer review, I suspect a number of their contribs might have been improvements. It's not my subject area, but feel free to review my recent contribs and undo any that look like unambiguous improvements. Girth Summit (blether) 20:24, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

Thank you. Yes, from a cursory look at their contributions they seemed to be editing in good faith. Robby.is.on (talk) 20:29, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
Hard to tell about 'good faith' exactly. They're a technically competent troll, as best as I can make out. I'm not deeply familiar with the case, but I wouldn't AGF with any of their edits in terms of factual accuracy - grammatical improvements, fine, but I'd check any assertion they made against the cited source. When reverting my edits please do not provide disingenuous arguments. The British Labour Party is not described as minority far left just because John McDonnell and Rebecca Long-Bailey are members. The Proffesor (talk) 16:16, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

You referred to "weasel words" in your edit summary. Your removal had nothing to do with "weasel words" and I stated as much in my edit summary. There is nothing disingenuous about that. If you want discuss content relating to United Right (Poland), the article's Talk page is the appropriate venue. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 17:18, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
