Re: Ye Gongchuo

[edit]

Wow, incredible job with this article. I think I'm slightly jealous of your skills. Anyway, is there a reason you only make passing mention of his collaboration with Tagore? Is it hard to find more info? I only ask as that would make a great hook if we knew some other details. Viriditas (talk) 21:38, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, do you do halftone restoration at all? Your lead slot image for Ye Gongchuo could be greatly improved using a separate image that uses a blur and sharpen filter. Apparently, the problem arose during the initial scan, where you can limit the dots from the halftone. Viriditas (talk) 22:14, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That was fast! Viriditas (talk) 22:26, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. As the nominator I have withdrawn my nomination of the aforementioned AFD which you have relisted. Unlike the other tennis articles I've listed for AFD this one has at least been partially improved and I've lost the will to bother trying to tidy up the Wikipedia tennis pages which are filled with nonsense. Sorry to rant. No criticism of you is meant. Best wishes . Shrug02 (talk) 01:26, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Alright, Shrug02, no worries. I've closed the nomination as withdrawn. Thank you for keeping an eye out for potentially non-notable subjects. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 01:29, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I won't be keeping an eye out anymore. Another closer has just relisted an AFD which has had no additions made to it in 7 days, has no references and has 4 people to 1 saying delete. I'm totally disheartened with the entire process and Wikipedia in general. It seems like a high school clique and I'm far too old for it. Again thanks and all the best. Shrug02 (talk) 01:33, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries... I know that feeling. One reason why I've been focusing on content creation since coming out of retirement... a lot simpler to just be there with your sources. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 01:35, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have done lots of content creation but stopped making new pages when ones with dozens of sources were successfully AFD nominated because a group of people piled on with delete votes. I then switched to improving existing articles. I found a few that were impossible to improve so AFD nominated them, just to find that the powers that be keep them because I haven't got a bunch of people to pile on and those who agree these articles should be deleted are overruled by the admins. Anyway sorry to vent to a stranger. Think I'm going to find a new hobby. Shrug02 (talk) 01:41, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ooof. Best of luck! — Chris Woodrich (talk) 01:42, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations, Crisco 1492! The article you nominated, Gao Qifeng, has been promoted to featured status, recognizing it as one of the best articles on Wikipedia. The nomination discussion has been archived.
This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured article. Keep up the great work! Cheers, Gog the Mild (talk) via FACBot (talk) 00:05, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks, BP! I've got another one queued up for this week, and I'll be doing some reviewing after nominating it. How's Claire going? — Chris Woodrich (talk) 04:06, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What's the article you're planning next? About Claire, nope. I always struggle at reception section. Was about to withdraw, but I already thought that it will be good idea to gather more feedbacks. 🍕BP!🍕 (🔔) 04:08, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The True Record. It's easily the best English-language source available about that publication. As for Claire, I know it's disheartening, but I wouldn't withdraw yet. Shapey has given some good feedback, and working through this should help you practice writing reception sections for future articles. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 04:12, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Chen Dingshan–Thank you!

[edit]

Hello @Crisco 1492,

Thank you for writing the amazing article about the amazing Chen Dingshan. I took liberty to put a bit more information, including his education, wives(?!), kid, travel, jail(?!), and re-organized the narrative of his early life into a chronological manner. I also hold the opinion that 飯店 would mean "restaurant", not "hotel", in 1930s China, but I could be wrong and I am more than happy to discuss with you about that. Cheers, --The Lonely Pather (talk) 20:42, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

And in case you want to reference your previous text, I've made a copy of the article before my edits at User:TheLonelyPather/sandbox2. Cheers, --The Lonely Pather (talk) 20:58, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • That's excellent, TheLonelyPather! I'll make sure to add you as co-author on the DYK nom... I didn't think to look for articles on his sister, and I'm always happy to have more biographical data. As for the translation, I defer to you entirely, as I work primarily through Google when writing articles on Chinese subjects, and between sources using current language and Google not providing historical context, it's easy to miss things like that where the meaning has shifted. 03:26, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oh, you reviewed. That could get awkward if I added you. Nix that. But either way, thank you! — Chris Woodrich (talk) 03:27, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're most welcome. Now that we've got the older brother and the sister of the family, we might think about the younger brother Chen Cidie, the father Chen Diexian, and the mother Zhu Su ... I will be available by Christmas time. Looking forward to potential future collaborations with you! Cheers, --The Lonely Pather (talk) 03:56, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't looked into the others in the family much, but just based on the Lear source, there is certainly enough for Chen Diexian! Some of the DYK hooks would be interesting... deliberately setting fire to bales of hay to prove that his new fire extinguisher worked, for example.  — Chris Woodrich (talk) 03:57, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jaws

Jaws is an American thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg, based on the 1974 novel by Peter Benchley. Released on June 20, 1975, it stars Roy Scheider as police chief Martin Brody, who, with the help of a marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss) and a professional shark hunter (Robert Shaw), hunts a man-eating great white shark that attacks beachgoers at a summer resort town. Regarded as a watershed moment in motion picture history, Jaws was the prototypical summer blockbuster and won several awards for its music and editing. It was the highest-grossing film of all time until the release of Star Wars two years later; both films were pivotal in establishing the modern Hollywood business model, which pursues high box-office returns from action and adventure films with simple high-concept premises, released during the summer in thousands of theaters and advertised heavily.
