Beautiful work. It didn't need much tweaking; I did a couple of small things, mainly for flow. I'll dig through my source at home tonight and see if there's anything else worth noting. Thanks very much - wish I was more useful, but my Czech is nonexistent. Jaroslav Čermák the resistance figure I don't know anything about, but he seems like he could be of interest.

That's a wonderful little source I've found; I've had fun adding a few articles from there over the weekend. I'll try to find a few more, mainly people without equivalent articles (there appear to be a few in there...there's even one who has absolutely no profile online, near as I can tell.)

And now thank you for your good work on Markéta Luskačová. As a small token of appreciation, I award you a Zorki 4 with Jupiter lens and vaguely scary-looking viewfinder. The viewfinder will impress a small number of your friends and it is a well-designed and -finished item, but I recommend that you replace it with a 35mm finder: less weight, better balance, and more pocketable. (This should really be an Opema rather than a Zorki, but the nonstandard frame size of the Opema can easily get you into trouble with an unthinking photo-processor.) Vilém Heckel is a new name to me; I'll investigate him soon. Torst is indeed a fine publisher; I have at least two of their books. A small point, but even when the article on a publisher does exist (e.g. Thames & Hudson), I tend to avoid such links within lists of books (of which my latest is the one here). Sorry for the delayed answer, I was totally busy in last days. Thanks for your work on Karel Cudlín and Markéta Luskačová, Hoary - the articles are fine and informative, I don't think you're "unqualified" :) Cudlín is one of my favourite photographers (I own the book published by Torst). He, together with Viktor Kolář, Jindřich Štreit and others, represents an interesting and original direction in the Czech photography; they began documenting Czech society in the vanished communist era and they all continue their work in the new democratic conditions. I admit that I like more their earlier works (perhaps a kind of nostalgia on my side :)) It's nice and unusual to meet an interested person here - the last good article I've found was Miroslav Tichý - a very interesting personality and recent "involuntary star" of the Czech art photography. See also User_talk:CliffC#I've noted that Miroslav Tichý.., if you are interested. I created only one photo-related article: Vilém Heckel, but I plan to write more, i. e. Emila Medková, Vilém Reichmann, Dagmar Hochová (to name the best). I understand your concern with linking publishers, I just wanted to point out that Torst is an important and notable publisher of art books in the Czech Republic. Recently, they made a fantastic and professional edition of Sudek's works: [1]. "The Window of My Studio" is one of the greatest cycles ever made, the "poetry" that I like most :) You can see an example here (the quality of reproductions is bad..) OK.. Enough talking.. Right then, I'd like to start with some boring little bibliographical questions about the article on Štreit. (For which I thank you. I don't know his work, but a good rule of thumb is that anything exhibited by Amber/Side is worthwhile. I'll investigate.) The questions are very simple, really, but unfortunately in order to ask them I have to use a lot of bytes.

Worldcat tells me of Josef Moucha, Helena Musilová, and Eva Marlene Hodek, Fotogenie identity: pamět̕ české fotografie / The photogeny of identity: The memory of Czech photography (Prague: Pražský dům fotografie, 2006; ISBN 8086970124).

(It may be better to say that Moucha, Musilová, and Hodek are the editors, or that all are contributors but that Moucha is the editor. I can't read Czech so I'm guessing.)

Surely "Prague House of Photography" is the name in English of Pražský dům fotografie; let's not quibble about which to use. And perhaps Kant is publishing it on behalf of Pdf, just as (for example) Yale University Press publishes books on behalf of the photo museum at Houston.

However, the article seems to imply that this book is "in: Dufek, Antonín: Vesnice je svět (The Village is a Global World), Prague, Arcadia 2003. Preface."

I guess you mean that what Dufek is quoted as saying is from Dufek's preface to his own Vesnice je svět, via Fotogenie identity: pamět̕ české fotografie. Is this right? If so, perhaps:

. . . ; quoting Antonín Dufek's preface to his Vesnice je svět (The Village is a Global World; Prague, Arcadia 2003; ISBN _______)

or of course the other way around:

Antonín Dufek, preface to his Vesnice je svět (The Village is a Global World; Prague, Arcadia 2003; ISBN _______); quoted in . . .

I looked in WorldCat for this book but couldn't find it. However, I was able to find this quadrilingual book by Štreit (photos) and Dufek (text): Vesnice je svět / The Village is a Global World / Das Dorf ist eine globale Welt / Un village, c'est tout un monde (Prague: Arcadia, 1993; ISBN 8090142354). Perhaps the 2003 book is a new edition or just a reprinting of this.

In the list of references, why "coll."? Is this something like "collective authorship"? If so, sorry but I don't think that this abbreviation is commonly used or much understood in English. (If a book has many authors, of course it's fine to name the first one and say "et al." for the rest.)

PS I wondered what books by Štreit might be available and so looked him up in Worldcat. Aaargh! Even granted that Czech museums seem unusually keen to get ISBNs even for smallish catalogues, his printed output is extraordinary. I tried but gave up soon in exhaustion. ¶ This is in fact typical of my approach to photographer bios. I tend to think that an array of books with clickable ISBNs is helpful but also will make the bio look more AfD-proof, so I do that. At this point I may already be too exhausted to proceed further (examples: Bukō Shimizu and Yoshino Ōishi). Energy permitting, I may add exhibitions and permanent collections; independent sourcing for all of that (e.g. Homer Sykes) leaves me completely knackered. No problem, I've expanded the list of publications with the most important titles. I think the Jindřich Štreit: Fotografie 1965-2005 / Jindřich Štreit: Photographs 1965-2005. Prague: Kant, 2006. ISBN 8086970051 is the best choice. It is a well arranged book containing his most important works (text also in English). Unfortunately it seems that the book is sold out :(

Fotogenie identity: pamět̕ české fotografie is a catalogue published both by Kant and Pražský dům fotografie, it is better to include both the publishers. As for the Dufek's book (The Village is a Global World), I've added incorrect date of publishing, thanks for correcting me. I also fixed the "coll."/"et al." problem. Excuse my insufficient knowledge of English citation standards. Yes, a non-reliable source in English tells me this. For decades, one of his photo books of Prague was in my parents' house, and I get the impression that he was, in effect, the CSSR's official export photographer for picturesque Prague. This is probably not a reputation that he would have wanted, and indeed I've read hints here and there that at one time he was regarded as daringly innovative. Anyway, his prominence seems to have plummeted (justly or unjustly), and this tends to interest me. -- Hoary (talk) 09:11, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Yes, he is known for his photos of Prague, but I can remember mainly his fantastic film Zem spieva (1933) (I've seen it years ago during one of my university lessons). You are right, his prominence have plummeted (although some of his works are still re-published in the Czech Rep.) - I think the work is a bit "archaic" and uninteresting for today's people. Well, he's a "dead white European male" who was involved in music that didn't have percussion machines or elaborate hair-dos and lighting, and who took photos in B/W that didn't show celebs or flesh, so I suppose his obscurity isn't surprising. ¶ I'd like to see some of his ethnographic work. (To be honest the idea of ethnographic photography doesn't fill me with excitement, but the east European examples I've seen by I. K. Yes, he was a real "Renaissance man", and he succeed in almost every area that he touched! I quite agree with you, I too don't like the 16 years old idol show "stars", (and a lot of other similarly "famous" people) and their alleged notability, but today's world has a little respect for real values. I'm a lucky person - usually I ignore this crap without commenting, there's a lot of people who enjoy working on it :) The photos by Inha and Pääsuke are wonderful, this is the kind of photography I like most, as the ethnography (especially that of my country) fill me with excitement :) I would like to nominate the articles (Štreit and Plicka) for DYK, but the venue seems to be affected by a recent wiki hysteria, and I don't want to be involved in a dispute with some wiki politicians/exorcists/clans/brotherhoods who enjoy the eternal unproductive blabbing visible in every corner of this project. Of course, the articles are not prefect, but I think they're quite informative and interesting. So I gave up and eventually forgot all about it.

Hello again! Good to hear from you. We're no too bad - Mum's gotten quite frail. And I've developed psoriasis. Not fun, but none of us is lying in a ditch getting shot at. We can enjoy out lives. So I guess we're fine, really... And you?

Onto topic, then. I saw the addition and wondered: should it be there? Having wondered a couple of hours, I'm still not sure, so I'll think it through in writing... While I rather like the idea of making such difficult music more freely available, and playable, by persons who'd find transposition difficult, I can't see how that adds to knowledge or understanding of the man and his music. It's someone else's use of his music; an adaptation. And it's self-published. On balance, I can't see how its inclusion can be justified. It might be worth posting something apologetic to the user's page, then reverting, with an edit summary that invites discussion. Sorry, this isn't much help, is it? Yes, it's a matter of proportion. No need to reach for blogdom when good quality sources suffice. Reverting well-intentioned links becomes a regular chore on some articles. Housekeeping, if you like. I see you've a fine co-editor (above and via your links on my page) but if I need a break from things Romanoid, I'll come to your door. Bloody Romans. I have to admit, it's obsessive. You dig and you dig. You end up with an increasing hole, and a much bigger spoil-heap beside it, filled with endlessly tantalising half-fossils, little gems and sundry bits of what might have been bedrock. Or not.

Speaking of which - I have to admit, I tend to leave the personal housekeeping to look after itself, and need to be stung into action by disapproving looks; this is just as well, because as we all know, the housekeeping doesn't actually look after itself at all. Strange mounds of debris accumulate in corners. Balls of fluff accumulate hither and yon, inconveniently not guite out of sight. As for the kitchen floor... And I'm sure none of it's mine. Still, it's splendid that you took over. I hope all continues well on the grandmother front. As for the psoriasis; well, it's a bit of a sod, but it might be a family trait.

Seems like you've added General Building to your skill-store 'cos of the economic slump? I've done much the same kind of work at various times - multiple careers, hum - which included roofing, leadwork, bricklaying, downpipes and guttering, casting and formwork (cills and lintols) plastering and whatnot. If you're after a general term, "general building" would cover it, especially if you're dealing with repairs. In Britain, we used to have an enormous range of specialised apprenticeships in these things; you called yourself whatever you trained as. We've fewer now. It is a good addition and a nice house, it reminds me remotely of the South Bohemian Rustic Baroque (' in Czech) [2]. Did you see this image? I like Hoffmann's work, it is an interesting and original bridge between the old and new architecture, encompassing Art Deco, Jugendstil, newborn modernism, and much more. I assume you refer to the "LUI controversy" (which was Topolánek's "political suicide"). Yes, we must be very careful when citing/translating sources, especially when we write about a highly visible living person. The sources cited must be trustworthy and the information here on Wikipedia must reflect the sources in a correct way. Well, for news about living people, the sources are usually media. Nobody cared the video was cut and the sentences were out of their context, there was homophobic antisemitic Topolánek in every newspaper. I watched the uncut video released by LUI. It implied something completely different than what was in the news - it implied he was just joking. It was so easy to see the truth! Yet, the reporters just copied some untrustworthy message over and over again. Some people learned Topolánek is a bad guy (well, that was no secret already, but he was not THAT bad). Thanks for your comments on DYK on Hoary's page. I'm happy to hear you have come to grips with the procedure yourself and have been successful in having so many articles listed. Not surprising: I just read your very well written article on Marie Kudeříková. I must say that this is my third attempt at DYK - the other two failed. It took me quite some time today to understand exactly how to manipulate the stuff and in the end I found it easier to use some of the other recent additions as models rather than trying to follow the confusing instructions. I'm sure they could be improved and attract many more creative users. I have in fact worked with computers since the early 1970s and so if I find this kind of thing difficult, how about all those with no previous experience at all? As for your comment on the hook, I though the Russian vs. American attitude would attract more attention than just citing awards. But thanks all the same. No rush. One thing at a time. It's just that it think it is useful for people to be able to get an overview of the various aspects of culture in each country. I've concentrated mainly on Denmark (art, literature, architecture, photography, music) and have begun to cover Luxembourg too. The article from the Oxford Companion here may be a starting point for Czech photography but for WP it would need to be enhanced by photographs and wherever possible by good articles on the individuals involved. Just let me know when you want to start. Don't hesitate to let me know if there's anything else you think I could help you with. While working on expanding Frederick Jelinek, it came to light that apparently the only source for his supposed birth given name is this website. It appears to be some sort of biographical directory, but beyond that it seems to be part of a suite of sites by tiscali.cz, I haven't been able to figure out whether it can be considered a reliable source. Tiscali is not a good source for us - "anyone can edit" there. I think we can use the information of this website, that's a reliable source (Lidové noviny). BTW, regarding Jelinkova, one of my sources says that she was one of nine dissidents "released" (she was not imprisoned at the time, I suspect this refers to being allowed to emigrate) "as an inaugural gift to Kennedy". This would have been sometime in January 1961 or December 1960. Do you think there is any chance of finding out who the eight others were? In my country, she is known as the author of the screenplay for Zapomenuté světlo (Forgotten Light), and her work was noted in association with the theatre play Adina (see the article). • The improvements look great. The source that I'd located at [5] was pretty good too, I thought. It didn't impress those two guys who seem to want to sweep this under the rug, but it's hard to reason with people who think it rates only a footnote. She was Jakobson's second wife, as far as I know. The name of his first wife was Soňa; she later married the Czech composer Pavel Haas. Article titles and diacritics

Happy Christmas, Antonin! I thought you would be the best person to approach with this query, for obvious reasons. Following another of my stupid entanglements with an AfD despite my resolution to keep well away from them, I've become involved in referencing and reformulating articles about several Bosnian volleyball internationals. The original creator created these articles without using diacritics. Mostly this is relatively unimportant but in the case of Ermin Lepić the original article title "Ermin Lepic" is inconsistent with the correct form of the player's name. If I create a new article with a title including the diacritic, transfer the text and then create a redirect from the simple QWERTY title, as I understand it the article history is lost. If I leave the article as it is, he keeps a name that's not his real name, and if I create a Redirect for the name with diacritic the person entering the correct form will see it fetch up an incorrect form. Do you know about the problem and any preferred solution? Thanks for any advice - it obviously has wider application for other existing BiH-related articles. It was explained many times on your user talk page: This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Hello Adam. I just added one letter to the article's talk page, you certainly did more than me.
