Requests for page protection

Current requests for increase in protection level[edit]

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Eurovision Song Contest 2025[edit]

Semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content. Unknown-Tree🌲? (talk) 17:30, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Lectonar (talk) 08:02, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Template:Warner Bros. theatrical animated features[edit]

Semi-protection: Persistent unexplained changes by IPs. Trivialist (talk) 17:52, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

Semi-protected Lectonar (talk) 08:09, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Alice Guo[edit]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Page vandalism by IP editors resumed after page protection expired. Sanglahi86 (talk) 21:08, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Lectonar (talk) 08:10, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

British support for Israel in the Israel–Hamas war[edit]

This page must be permanently extended-protected in accordance with WP:AIPIA. Also, a related page is missing its {{pp-extended}} protection template.102.156.0.31 (talk) 22:22, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

Alexander Ovechkin[edit]

Reason: Ovechkin like Crosby and Gretzky is considered a generational talent and protecting his article makes sense to prevent any unidentified IP numbers from making any unncessary changes or vandalism Gymrat16 (talk) 23:42, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Lectonar (talk) 08:10, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Celebrity (disambiguation)[edit]

Semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry. TornadoLGS (talk) 00:29, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Assassin's Creed Shadows[edit]

Reason: Pending changes protection: Influx of vandalism from recent game announcement. Some of the charming comments include [1], [2], [3]. Recommending pending changes instead of semi-protection because IPs are making good contributions too (eg. [4]). Egsan Bacon (talk) 01:05, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Ilya Sutskever[edit]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Ilya Sutskever. Mellk (talk) 02:06, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Anna Panagiotopoulou[edit]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – Let's see if we can get all these people to the talk page. Moxy🍁 02:49, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Sheikh Mohamed Laghdaf Stadium[edit]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. M.Bitton (talk) 02:51, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

JS Massira[edit]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. M.Bitton (talk) 02:52, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Steve Albini[edit]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Since Albini's death, at least three users have attempted to add unverified info from a Medium post stating that he is a pedophile. The edits are serious BLP violations and the post itself does not represent Albini's character accurately. It should also be noted that the author of the Medium post, MoonMetropolis, is a convicted terrorist, so their words should not be taken lightly. Carlinal (talk) 06:09, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Alfred Nobel[edit]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Frequent target of IP vandalism, disruptive editing, and socks. Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 06:54, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Electricity sector in Pakistan[edit]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Repeated addition of spam links. John of Reading (talk) 07:08, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Maldives National Defence Force[edit]

Reason: Lot of Unreferenced IP edits and doesn't even know if it is true or not. MAL MALDIVE (talk) 07:13, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: IPs making personal attacks. BrokenSquarePiece (complete me) 07:44, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level[edit]

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Draft:Lifespan Integration[edit]

Reason: Full creation protection seems unjustified. The corresponding mainspace page is unprotected and no one has recreated it. I personally do not intend to create an article on this topic but in case an autoconfirmed editor does, it would be reasonable to drop the SALT level to semi to match mainspace. Protecting admin has been desysoped so I brought it here directly. Nickps (talk) 11:54, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

@Nickps: The SALT does seem justifiable, given three speedy deletions. I do agree with you that full-protection is unnecessary for it, however. Semi-protection would seem to me to be too low; maybe XCP? —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 15:44, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
Even that sounds wrong to me to be honest. Protecting the draft but not the mainspace article is a weird thing to do. It's essentially directing any spam to mainspace. Since there has been no such spam all this time, I'd argue that the protection has outlived its purpose. But, lowering the protection would still be a positive in any case so I won't get too hung up on the level. Do XCP if you think it's right. Nickps (talk) 16:15, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
It doesn't look like there's been any attempt to re-create the mainspace page after the AfD (which, I should note, post-dates the most recent draft deletion). —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 16:33, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
Meh This is one of those cases who pop up from time to time where I am always on the fence. Yes, the page shouldn't be protected anymore (or only at lower level); on the other hand there is no expressed need to create a page under said draft. Lectonar (talk) 07:17, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Tim Ballard[edit]

Reason: This is a one sided account orchestrated by Paul Hutchinson and Jimmy Rex and others. None of the accusations have been substantiated by court action. Additionally the article carries little information about Tim Ballard the altruistic work he has done and the factual details of rescue missions and the successes in his work with the DHS. 162.211.155.34 (talk) 02:57, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Declined – The article has been the subject of IP edit warring as recently as March. Use the talk page to try to get your point accepted. In any case the article was semiprotected for six months in March by User:Daniel Case under WP:CT/AP, so it would take an appeal under those sanctions. EdJohnston (talk) 03:55, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page[edit]

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Israel–Hamas war[edit]

Change "Since the start of the Israeli operation, more than 35,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed,[86] including over 15,000 children and 10,000 women.[87][88]" to "Since the start of the Israeli operation, nearly 35,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed,[86] including over 7,000 children and nearly 5,000 women.[87][88]." This is based on the data recently revised by the UN, accessible here: https://www.ochaopt.org/content/hostilities-gaza-strip-and-israel-reported-impact-day-215. Requests for permission - rollback

Rollback[edit]

User:Piscili[edit]

Have been patrolling Recent Changes and fighting vandalism for some time now and I think that having one or more advanced anti vandalism tools would help a lot in this trajectory. Piscili (talk) 12:12, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

Automated comment This user has 149 edits in the mainspace. MusikBot talk 19:00, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
Not done Please see the notice at the top of this page; with only 149 edits to the mainspace, I don't think you have the necessary editing experience for advanced permissions. Take a moment to check out CVUA, and if you decide you'd like to get involved, you can enroll at the Counter Vandalism Academy to learn more. Also, please ensure that you are consistently warning editors when you revert their edits (I recommend using tools such as Twinkle or Ultraviolet which makes this extremely easy). Thanks, Fastily 23:40, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for the comment. But my edit counts in the mainspace already exceeded the 200 minimum edits to mainspace at the time you reviewed this request but the bot failed to update it accordingly. I have consistently warned editors when reverting edits but sometimes the warning template fails to load which I assume is due to my weak internet connection. And I have learnt to do manual warning when this happens. I request that you kindly take a moment and review my counter vandalism edits again. Thanks. Piscili (talk) 05:46, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
Sure, although I stand by my original decline. You've been actively editing for ~1 month, which IMO isn't enough time to adequately learn Wikipedia's many policies/guidelines/best practices. You need to ensure that you're notifying editors when you revert their edits. If you're on an unstable internet connection, then you need to slow down and take extra care to ensure that you are notifying editors; RecentChanges patrol isn't a race to see who can revert the most edits. Furthermore, I note that you've made exactly zero reports to AIV, which is an important stop for any serious counter-vandalism patroller. Please carefully review my feedback, implement it, and consider reapplying in a month if you are still interested. -Fastily 07:13, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
Noted. Many thanks Piscili (talk) 07:46, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

User:Cowboygilbert[edit]

Finally being bold enough to request. Most of my edits come anti-vandalism, I have over 1000 mainspace edits, and know policies to be able to detect the difference between vandalism, disruptive editing, and test edits. I also actively use RedWarn and Twinkle to help with a faster warning system and to help the undo process.Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 13:51, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

User:GrayStorm[edit]

I want rollback so that I can revert vandalism more efficiently and use more anti vandalism tools. I was granted this right for 3 months by Red-tailed hawk, and I am now here to request it permanently, in accordance with the request.
