S.P. Balasubramanium, the singer par excellence, has many other faces like a good actor,music composer and producer.

His voice has such a tremendous range that it can either make or break a song, if proper care is not taken in making the video. Mohan,the actor, to his credit has so many memorable classics sung by S.P.Bala in his films. Even though Mohan has hanged his boots, his immortal film classics popularly called as 'Mohan Hits' has good number of buyers even after 20 years since the songs were first released. There are two reasons for this sort of demand. First is the very obvious one: the voice of SP Bala. The other being the effortless and stylish rendition which Mohan puts forth,when SP Bala sings the playback. Mohan even takes the stress to alter his body language in accordance with the tempo of SP Bala's voice. The best example one can come across is in the film "ella thirandhathu kadhavu". In the film comes a song "Thedum kan parrvai thavikka" sung by SP Bala. As a whole Mohan has done the acting and lip-sync perfectly. The whole song centres around a search Mohan does for his lover girl,whose face he will be seeing for the very first time. But the girl (Amala) decides to play hide-and-seek with Mohan. This frustrates Mohan very much that he sings "kaladevan theetiya en kaadhal ooviyam...ah..varamale ivelail" thus. The singer SP Bala gives a powerful stress on the interspersing word 'ah' mentioned in the stanza in the previous line. If it were any other actor he would have simply gone through the playback. But Mohan, as always at his best, will give a shuddering movement while SP Bala sings the word 'ah' in agony. The agony in the word is fully made clear by SP Bala by his great voice. It might have been missed while wathcing the video if Mohan hadn't bothered to visualize the agony. Such is Mohan's intricate mastering of the craft to act in songs , when the song is sung by a great singer. Actors who aren't adept in this either get unnoticed along with the song,even if the song is a good one.

Few other actors like Rajnikanth, Kamal Hassan, Karthick, Nagarjuna etc. have utilized the great voice of SP Bala, with thier good acting skills. Mohan, ofcourse, tops the list.

Singer-actor SP Balasubrahmanyam succumbed to coronavirus on Friday. The 74-year-old actor was admitted to MGM Healthcare in Chennai in the first week of August after testing positive for coronavirus.

SPB’s son SP Charan told reporters at MGM Healthcare, “SPB belongs to everyone. He will live on in his songs. My dad passed away at 1.04 pm.”

A statement from the hospital read, “Thiru S P Balasubrahmanyam had been admitted at MGM Healthcare on August 5th and commenced on life support measures since August 14th for severe COVID-19 pneumonia. He continued to be closely monitored by our multidisciplinary team in the critical care unit. He tested negative for COVID-19 on September 4th. In a further setback this morning, despite maximal life support measures and the best efforts of the clinical team, his condition deteriorated further and he suffered a cardio-respiratory arrest. With profound grief, we regret to inform that he has passed away on September 25th at 13:04 Hours. We express our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, well-wishers and admirers at their loss during this time of anguish and sorrow.”

The passing away of the legendary singer has left his fans saddened. Many celebrities are paying their tribute to him on social media.

Yesudas has sung 40,000 songs whilst SPB has 39,000 to his credit. Then how come SPB has sung most number of songs and his name is going to appear in record books? Something wrong with my basic maths?

It's a known fact that SPB is the one who has sung the most no. songs in India. 40,000 songs sung by Yesudas isn't true. Ofcourse, Yesudas has recorded 30,000 plus songs (both film and non-film) and is one of the top singers, no doubt, but when it comes to figures, SPB ranks first. --Thalapathi (Ping Back) 16:19, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Mentioning Caste

Dear Editors!
There has been a discussion on India Portal related to mentioning of caste of subjects. The point is that mentioning caste of people, who have nothing to do with their caste, is found to be unnecessary by few editors. Hence the caste of the subject person needs to be deleted from the biography. I am not deleting the caste as of now but am only posting this here so that the regular editors of this article are well aware of it beforehand and no edit-wars take place. For details of discussion held on the portal please refer Wikipedia_talk:Noticeboard_for_India-related_topics#Mentioning_caste_of_Individuals. Your views if any are welcome there or even here.
And.... as the reasons of exclusion of caste pointed out were "irrelavant to notability of subject person", "privacy of the subject person", "inclusion of caste is like branding individuals", etc. other information included in the article which also fall under these cases will also be removed after discussions. Examples of it included religion, non-notable spouse's and children's and parents' information, previous occupation, lived in places, non-notability related educational qualification, etc.

number of songs

number of songs sung by him, seems not realist. because, article says he started singing 1966, total year 46 days 16376 if he sing 3 songs per day with out break, then only it reaches 50000 count. SPB has worked in all Southern industries, not just Tamil or predominantly Tamil

Stop editing the page to say that SPB worked predominantly in Tamil movies. Also why shoehorn Vikatan awards ahead of state awards? Seems like some corporate interest is at play. Under the heading Early life and background of the Article, it was mentioned that SPB enrolled in JNTU College of Engineering, Anantapur; this statement needs a revision to correct the information. He must have been a student there in the mid '60s when it was only Government Engineering College, Anantapur. As such, there was no JNTU at all at that time. It came into being only after 1972, with the advent of the Special JNTU Act of 02nd October, 1972. 9The other two locations of JNTU are Kakinada and Hyderabad from 1973 onward). Guinness World Record?

The page claims Balasubrahmanyam holds the Guinness World Record for the "highest number of songs by a singer with over 40,000 songs." There are a few articles which mention this (and it's even mentioned in a description from a BBC Radio broadcast in which Balasubrahmanyam is interviewed), but I can't find any other evidence. I went to guinnessworldrecords.com and there are no results when you search for his name and the category doesn't even seem to exist. An article from 2016 quotes Balasubrahmanyam as saying: "Even I do not exactly know. It cannot be over 40,000. It should be between 35,000 and 40,000." It's hard to believe they would recognize a record they can't verify, especially when the supposed record-holder says it's incorrect. Johndavies837 (talk) 08:10, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

I found multiple sources that support the 25th of September as the day he passed away. I do not believe an edit is warranted without additional citations.
