Unnecessary mention of LoL and League in lead[edit]

Per WP:VG/LEAD, we do not add gamer jargon.

Avoid "commonly known as" and "stylized as", unless the point of abbreviation or stylization has been made by a preponderance of reliable, independent, secondary sources. Wikipedia maintains a formal tone and, like newspapers and magazines outside the gamer niche, uses brief phrases instead of abbreviations.

We're not using LoL or the shorthand League in the article, as that would be inappropriate per WP:TONE, so there's no point mentioning it in the lead, which is the summation of the article. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 12:38, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not invested in the outcome so no formal vote for me, but some context:
  • I removed LoL from the lead at FAC and was rebuked on the basis that "LoL" redirects to the page.
  • Sources within the article (Washington Post and Polygon, from quickly looking) refer to the game as League. I do not like calling the game "League" on Wikipedia, so have consciously eliminated all mentions, spacing out the full name so it didn't jar, but think it has encyclopaedic value (it's a widely used shortening and may be useful to the few readers who are fortunate enough to have never heard of the game). If someone were to add some sentences which use "League", I wouldn't contest.

Also, strictly speaking, per WP:DABABBREV, if we did not include "League" and "LoL" in the article, then we could not link this page from the League and Lol dab pages, which would obviously impede navigation. The "LoL" stylization is also the name used for the game's esports component: [1], so not only is it documented in secondary sources, it is an official acronym.---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 15:34, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Edit needed[edit]

In the article it says there are 9 divisions, iron bronze silver being the lowest etc, but with the introduction of the emerald tier, there are now actually 10 divisions. 82.78.170.39 (talk) 01:39, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Shadow311 (talk) 19:48, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This will be true as of March 6, but right now I can't find any high-quality reliable sources. I'll check back when the change is live and look for a new source. It's not very important and doesn't belong in the lead, but the introduction of Vanguard to LoL and TFT is worth a mention. — ImaginesTigers (talkcontribs) 20:24, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
