The contentious topics procedure applies to this page. This page is related to post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people, which has been designated as a contentious topic.
The lead mentions several studies which rank countries by some healthcare measure, such as "health access, efficiency, and equity" and "access and quality". The US generally gets mediocre or poor scores on these rankings. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure that some aspects of US healthcare are world class (cancer treatment comes to mind). I think these may be just as relevant to include in the lead. But I'm not sure where to start. I don't really think it's important to "balance" the lead with good and bad facts; but the current lead is so oddly written, as if it's trying to convey something with its tone. Would it be better to add new studies that showcase the high quality aspects of US healthcare, or to rephrase the description of the current studies with a more neutral POV? is 'world leading' not completely subjective to economic status? if I go to most countries in the world, wouldn't I theoretically be able to get good cancer treatment provided I paid enough?
Compared to European countries, America's per capita expenditure on healthcare is several times higher, and the life expectancy is lower, which is why the USA tends to do poorly on such studies. Sebimus (talk) 11:46, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Adding to History & Impact of drug companies, Cleaning up Demographic differences[edit]
I plan on adding to the "History" section as well as the "Impact of drug companies" subsection (primarily with current initiatives taken both by federal legislation as well as more state-wide programs). I also will be cleaning up the "Demographic differences" section to make certain sentences more concise and overall provide more clarity to remain centralized to the main topic of the article.
